This is amazing, really enjoyed this video. You take such great care of them. Made me so happy to see your bird return home under her own steam! I have a Racing Pigeon visiting me every day for about a month. Her owner is too far from me to collect her. I don't keep pigeons, but she crash landed in my garden and I fed her with my wild bird seed and gave her water. She couldn't fly so I was able to pick her up and put in my potting shed. She's a 2024 bird, she was meant to do 50 miles but did 150 instead. I got her number from the wing and rang her owner. He arranged a local racing pigeon owner to pick her up. After a week, any vehicle that could've collected her fell through, so they agreed he could keep her. He let her go with his flock after 8 days and she immediately flew back to me! He said he's never heard of this before. Now she can fly I can't pick her up. She spends most of her days here, and has brought a wild pigeon back with her a time or two. Not sure what to do to get her back home! Trying to learn as much as I can. The bird here gets excited to see me but then runs away when it's not who she's expecting. They do bond with their breeders I'm sure. Do you have any advice please? Your birds are absolutely beautiful 🥰
I had racing pigeons for a great part of my youth, and then picked it up again in my mid 20's 30's and early 40's. Fantastic sport, but life just got to busy, and condo living is not conducive to flying pigeons unfortunately. I flew in the CJC in New Jersey, and when I flew as a kid maybe 600 lofts for YB season. As I flew thru my middle age, maybe 250 lofts, tops. I would notice, and a lot of the "old-timer's" would concur on this, that it seemed when you would get a real nice clear day in late November/early December, with strong winds from the west or even northwest or southwest, you would get birds back from the YB series of races in August and September. I remember one day one year in early December some years back, I got three birds back on the same day. One was lost during training and the others were lost during the race schedule in September. The two birds lost during the races, still had there counter-marks on. The theory was that the birds almost instinctively knew winter was coming and they needed to stop "bumming around". lol Interestingly, the weather got much worse almost immediately after the birds returned home. I was always in awe at how smart our racing pigeons were...
I would say someone had her. I just caught a lost bird from the Hoosier Classic this year. It was skinny too. So just one day of hard flying will do it. She actually looks great having been gone that long.
@@Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons Yea, for being a month outside she would have been in very rough shape. Someone, maybe a flyer had her and then released her to try and find home and she did. Awesome that she came back, anyway!
Wow what a beautiful bird I bet your over the moon mate. My son had one bird go missing but ! She returned to his loft wait for it 6 months later, obviously she escaped from her captivity, I’m happy for you, good luck with your racing. Thanks
It’s so nice to see them come home after a long time. That bird looks beautiful. I thought the last will hit the coming car😃😃😃 I am glad all are doing well and I think you will do great this weekend👍👍👍😘😘😘good luck👍👍👍
Cool looking bird. Always neat when they come back like that. Just when you think they are gone for good. Never know where they have been. Good luck on your remaining races.
Great feeling when it bird returns. The first time releasing one of my favorite bird she returned. One-day I let her out and she returned but one of my dog got her. What a day it was. But I still learning. Glad u got ur bird back.
My friend I'm glad you got her back it's amazing how a bird recognized her way back and goes straight to the nesbo lol...i must say she is very beautiful 😍

Uuuu I'm so happy for you I have also lost one when it was 1 month old.... I don't expect it to return after 2 months but after watching your video I am again hopeful 🤗🤗
One of our pigeons came back after two months from a national race here in Belgium .I took him to the vet because i had to go with my cat any how .The pigeon was free of disseases , pigeons have a great natural resistance but a lot of fanciers give to much medication .
I agree too much medication‘s and I do not vaccinate. I feel that if I lose some Pigeons to a disease then the rest left will be The strong ones. Glad you got your pigeon back my friend
Thanks for watching brother. If we have west winds i’m not going to send the birds because they already moved the race more to the west. They’re not letting us take the birds into Florida because of the Evian flu. It makes it harder for my birds the more west they go!
Years ago back in the '90s I lost a White Hen on a 200 mile race, she came back 3 weeks later completely covered in some kind of clear type of cooking oil, I was thinking maybe she went down in back of a restaurant and got into a container of used cooking oil maybe thinking it was water, I don't know but it was a mystery to me, I bathed her in warm water and dishwashing liquid several times to try and clean it off of her.
1 month ? i have lost one that really was close to my heart even though i'm not a pigeonracer but i'm close to 15 pigeon some come to take a look some stay some take off but 1 month is worthwhile waiting but what is a maximum time for a racepigeon to return ?
I can usually reach in the loft and pick up the birds but if I have a wild one I have a outside smaller cage that a push them all into and then I can pick up any ones I want. Thanks for watching 👍
I think they use a combination of skills to find home. but to get them started in the right direction I think they use the earths magnetic field. then the suns poition combined with the Time of day. then when they are within 20 miles of home they can pretty much go by memory of the landscape. but nobody really knows for sure I have a theory about their eyes but it’s not worth mentioning because I can’t prove anything.
I have lost 3 pigeons about a year now and I saw one of them come back probably like 4 months ago but she landed for like a 2 minutes then flew away again and didn't come back. So idk if someone trapped them and they getting feed from another loft or they just don't want to come back.
Well it sounds like it has a new home now and their isn’t much you can do about that! Some return after being released and some are rehomed to the new place
Sad to happen this . If is bad weather they stop . If they can see some food offered in that area they go down . So easy they can be attracted there so they don't leave . If they trapped inside of course they can't leave 😢 . In same time predators a big threat. Sadly a risk to be think of . Great video . ❤
Beautiful bird. Someone definitely had the bird, strayed it in when bird got tired, maybe lost, chased by falcon etc.. Probably thought since they strayed it, they could train it & fly it. He let it out , bird came home. Hope u grabbed that drinker outta their since she drank out of it. Bleach it just in case

Try releasing in an open field, overhead cables , tree branches and automobiles are all a recipe for disaster for your team.
