The fact that his lie includes saying "I thought 'oh great', now I'm gonna get in trouble because she fell and hit her head" is a classic sign of a narcissitic psychopath. He thinks that sounds convincing, not knowing that any normal person in that situation would be concerned for the dead, not themselves.

We can take your child-like approach and just demand a fairytale utopia where that responsibility doesn't lie on the individual -- or in your case, the woman -- but that approach will unfortunately lead women straight into danger.
Imagine being you. "I don't need to warn my child not to talk to strangers. Strangers shouldn't abduct my child. He told me his father died with a straight face and made an entire elaborate story. A few weeks later he and his mom are talking about how he was in the neighborhood a few days ago. He must have completely forgot he lied. He lied to judges, police officers, his family. Everyone. Luckily the judge nd officers saw right through him and saw his erratic behavior was a sign he was lying. Sick. Sick. Thank god I survived. What the courts do not understand is they either kill the women or the children. How many times do women have to say that a man is dangerous in the court before they are believed and protected? I believe some “vessels” truly harbor no human conscience either by choice or otherwise. In this case I feel it’s the former but the downfall of a lot of these psychopaths is that because they don’t possess the capability for those emotions and they build their whole lives based on a mask they think mimics humanity or intentionally enter career paths where they feel they’ll be more trusted and distance themselves (at least socially and publicly) from their true narcissistic self.
In my humble opinion although I have a psych degree I am no expert and education / career capabilities are by FAR not always an indicator of actual intelligence. Far less emotional intelligence.
The spineless tactics he’d used for at least his whole adult life became his downfall as it’s obvious to all of us here in the comments that AI is probably closer to being human than he is in terms of empathy and consideration for anyone outside of himself. Sickening.

Then he tried to stick to the accident narrative so the second one was "the just went off". For the murder of the boy he "dropped the gun" after it had already went off twice by accident, and it went off when it hit the floor and killed the kid.

So, one day he gets to walk free. I can not imagine what all of this is going to do to their daughter.

she will be far away from him, they will not give him the address or anything. she can even rename, if she will be still unsure after time of 30 years.

An interesting pattern I've noticed-in these interrogations with apparent psychopaths-is that there comes a point when the suspect starts openly referring to the relationship between their testimony and the consequences for them personally.
"What do you want me to tell you? If I say X, that doesn't help [my situation]."
It's as if they forget to keep up the "normal human with emotions and empathy" facade due to the stress of the situation, and fail to keep in mind that what they're now doing is explicitly weighing the pros and cons of which lie to tell.

Depending on the type of court you are going to in the USA, between 93-97% of convictions never go to trial. People do the court's work for it.

He was really off his rocker with the way he premeditated this. Bought a chainsaw and dug a hole and picked a time and date. It’s disgusting.
