Hey All: It's very gratifying to see some of the favorable comments on this song! At the time, the demo went nowhere, and we tended to look at as a failure. For the record I co-produced the cuts on this demo with engineer Alec Head of Mediasound. I very much had T-Rex in mind. Great personnel on the recording, including synth master David Frank, Steve Bray on drums, John "K" Kumnik on bass, and myself on guitars and electric sitar.
totes Fleisch Hi totes: Thanks for the thought, but the demos are not mine to re-release. The songs were written by Madonna, and my role as producer was work-for-hire for her management company. I don't in any sense own the songs or the recordings. Maybe it's silly to say this when the recordings are all over the internet, but it would be unethical of me to release them.
Jon Gordon -- This is one of my favorite songs written/performed by Madonna. Everything about the production and musicianship is quality. It is so good, it really should have been included on her 1983 debut (sandwiched right between the classics, "Borderline" and "Burning Up"), to give variety to the sound of the album, and to showcase Madonna's diverse musical styles/interests (like her punk rock side in 1981). Then again, "Don't You Know?" and "Crimes of Passion" should also have graced her debut LP, as well. As great and classic as that album is, like Madonna, I feel that the album gave a somewhat limited viewpoint in to what her musical and lyrical abilities were by Summer '83. Be proud of this New Wave/Rock piece from 1981. It was/is certainly radio-worthy (esp. then, in the early-to-mid '80s). Great work on the sitar, Man! It adds such a great effect to the song...
The funny thing is that this song reminds me a lot of Madonna's later tracks like "Candy Perfume Girl" (Ray Of Light, 1998) and "I'm So Stupid" (American Life, 2003). She stopped doing this kind of music in the early 80's but returned to rock tracks in the late 90's and early 00's.
Yeah! It really reminds me of Candy Perfume Girl... And CPG is one of my favourites songs by Madonna! I'd love to listen a Madonna's album full of songs like that
"I Want You", "Love On The Run", "Get Up" and "High Society" a pop-rock style demo produced under the direction of Madonna's first manager Camille Barbone in New York City by Gotham Sound Studios.
Madonna, you would want to spend this 16 Emmy & the Emmy tracks on Cd, and that this cd via Bol. com can buy hail - René Jansen Your biggest fan forever and, uh, very much strength with your knee injury hopefully, you'll soon be better
One of my favorite preMADONNA songs. Laugh to keep from crying is still my fave. Sooo new wave! So many people say Madonna can't sing. They are right and wrong at the same time. Their has always been something about her voice that is raw, primal and quite exquisite. LOVE MADONNA
Rock/Pop/Punk has never been about perfect vocals, but more about , like you said, the primal need to rebel and be heard and make a statement in time...Madonna was, and is, a TRUE Rock Star, and always has been....no ageism, folks, give the woman the respect she deserves!
I love love love all of madonnas early demos with The Breakfast Club and Emmy. They have such a special New York sound to them. You did a fabulous job with this one by bringing out that dreamy early 80s NY sound. Love the sitar.
It’s a shame this song has been hidden away in the back alley. It’s actually a really beautiful demo with tremendous potential. It would be interesting to see how it would change for a radio audience. It had a certain raw magic I wouldn’t want to see disappear.

I use to fell the same about artists b-sides and how I like some and wonder why it’s not in the album. Being in the music business now, There’s a couple of reasons why they aren’t. When the complete a bunch of demos and songs for the album, the producers, artist and executives go through the songs and determine what makes it on the album and in what order. After debates, objections and opinions....the process also caters to what song will be released as the first single. This is crucial as it will make the artist or not and gain attention. They also consider if the single is worthy enough for remixes, club okay, Dj’s, radio and promos. When they select the songs for the album the record label generally chooses the number of track listing and provides the funds for it. If they include more it costs more as well as they consider the money spent on getting the songs made and by which producer. They also need to consider not having too many “fillers” in the album which are songs that don’t have much substance or fans would rather skip or doesn’t grow on them. They also want the album diverse and not sound too repetitive in sound and style but during this process generally all involved have different opinions of what they like and not and share ideas and debate. They also worry about having too many songs and boring the listener and songs not standing on its own. It generally sounds like a good idea to pack a record to get more than you pay for but an “album” especially a debut, they prefer it to be special and be memorable and the track listing to flow well with each song and the song up next plus they don’t want to reward the consumer too much with freebies compared to how much it cost the company so 10-12 songs are the usual number. they then leave some songs that they scrapped from the album as a a possible addition on single releases. When they choose the first song to be released as a single before the albums release date, they consider the songs that did not make it on the album as the flip side of the record calling it the b-side. Leaving b-sides for singles and ep’s and promos that will be released in other countries instead of here like Japan or Europe. THE POWER OF THE MOTHER... LA BELLA MADONNA... THE MOTHER I NEVER HAD.. THE MOTHER OF MY MUSIC AND MY INSPIRATION MY LIFE WOULDNT BE THE SAME WITHOUT HER LIGHT.
I make your words my own words!!! Madonna is like a madre to me, my mommy, my savior and that woman which feed me with her songs and her energy. She like a mom I never had as well.
Thanks wow I never listened to this song before ! Not really bad. I like it but I think it wasn't the right sound for her, so she's been right to turn that page with Barbone... (update) Madonna was already "pronta". this song also was already "pronta" to be written in the history of music. it was enough that Barbone had a little more "co(raggio)glioni". she would have made a lot of money. which instead the others did because they were more enterprising than her. this is business. this is the life. hai "cazzato"!
Madonna was born, raised in Michigan, left at 19 years old,she knows where she's from which why she comes back to see her family which is public info. I'm from Michigan as well, still live here and moving to California. Madonna has a home here in Michigan as well so I have no idea what you're talking about nor would anyone else in Michigan,United States. Michigan is in the United States.
I never said that Madonna doesn't know where she's from; what are you talking about? But here is a quote from Madonna herself, I'll let her essay in Time Magazine say it best "The essay focuses on the Madonna’s struggles before she made it big. Now 55, still calls New York City home." Everybody on planet earth knows where Madonna was born & her history. she is & have always been the most documented artist of all time. You sound ridiculous stating the obvious; but it doesn't negate she left.
the only thing I like about "Madonna"( Ciccone) is non limelight pop Premadonna! when I was 10/11 I ate her up! but not after 14. "Material Girl" not so hot.
This song sounds at least a decade ahead of its time. awesome! think it would sound better with a different vocalist though, Madonna's high pitched voice sounds a bit much, needs someone with a huskier or deeper voice.
This was Madonna's song, who better to sing it than the one who wrote it.... so I beg to differ, her vocals were perfect...although it is a solid track, any husky voiced vocalist up for a cover?? Pink? Adele?? God help us, Courtney?? Nah.....

I think you’re all missing the point. It’s not the melody, it’s the lyrics that matter here. They take you into a different mindset.

THE POWER OF THE MOTHER... LA BELLA MADONNA... THE MOTHER I NEVER HAD.. THE MOTHER OF MY MUSIC AND MY INSPIRATION
MY LIFE WOULDNT BE THE SAME WITHOUT HER LIGHT.
I make your words my own words!!!
Madonna is like a madre to me, my mommy, my savior and that woman which feed me with her songs and her energy. She like a mom I never had as well.
LOVE THIS...
Una víctima más de la alta sociedad.!
i love this one
Thanks wow I never listened to this song before !
Not really bad. I like it but I think it wasn't the right sound for her, so she's been right to turn that page with Barbone...
(update) Madonna was already "pronta". this song also was already "pronta" to be written in the history of music. it was enough that Barbone had a little more "co(raggio)glioni". she would have made a lot of money. which instead the others did because they were more enterprising than her. this is business. this is the life. hai "cazzato"!
Queen ❤👑
Twas no autotune back then!
I heard John Lennon needed auto tune in the late 70s
Marcy Warren Must have been Yoko and since there weren't computers they had her 'sing' into a dead swinging cat!

Did she write this song?
Yes
Madonna I come from the Netherlands your biggest fan René Jansen
I never said that Madonna doesn't know where she's from; what are you talking about? But here is a quote from Madonna herself, I'll let her essay in Time Magazine say it best "The essay focuses on the Madonna’s struggles before she made it big. Now 55, still calls New York City home." Everybody on planet earth knows where Madonna was born & her history. she is & have always been the most documented artist of all time. You sound ridiculous stating the obvious; but it doesn't negate she left.
OMG IS great...!!
Not bad man
Esto es delicia
the only thing I like about "Madonna"( Ciccone) is non limelight pop Premadonna! when I was 10/11 I ate her up! but not after 14. "Material Girl" not so hot.
A bit Gary Numan / tubeway army ?
Weezer should remake this
This sounds like music today, while most of her 80's songs sound more dated.
Nah.....
Does anyone else think that Madonna has become....... Too.......commercial?
yuck!
