      Been driving a Manual since I was 9 years old in monterrey Mexico it's vice-versa over there hard to find a car that is automatic. But starting to become more common in the newer vehicles..I taught my wife to drive Manual, she drives a Manual mustang gt that has become more of a street/strip car..and thinking of buying her a jeep but she wants another Manual and it is getting hard 2 find 1

    "Do you really want to row the gears that much"? lol
    Shifting gears is just "automatic" for those who drive manuals regularly, we don't even think about it. The pleasure of shifting, controlling the transmission, being a part of the machine, is so much more enjoyable than driving an automatic transmission vehicle.

      @uck9347Just making a snarky remark about having to use DEF, which is a fluid made primarily of urea and deionized water, required on diesel engines made in 2010+. Urea is a nitrogenous, metabolic compound commonly found in piss, and a popular brand of DEF is Blue DEF. Hence my remark: blue piss.
      Additionally, the DEF emissions equipment (Federal level requirement) increases overall complexity, maintenance costs, and lowers reliability of your vehicle. Typically, DEF is refilled every 5-10k miles, but If you happen to run out of DEF while driving, your vehicle will go into a limp mode and limit you to like 5mph in the best cases. Some vehicles won't even let you start the car without DEF either.
      Hooray for Liberals.

As an old timer (52) I am at a loss for some of the things this young fella says. “First gear is pretty much useless,” and then “this vehicle is not good for rock crawling, I’d pick the automatic for that. The manual is just not worth it.” Put it together, kid. Also good for hauling. All manual hauling vehicles fit first gear as a granny gear.
    No hard feelings, and thanks for the video.

    When you were talking about the pros and cons of the manual, I understand most are opinion. For a proper jeep I will say off roading in low range it's quite hard to stall a jeep. Last time I went wheeling I don't think I stalled any, doing some proper technical stuff. Something else to think about is that you're able to make the drivetrain do exactly what you want, rather than hoping the computer will down shift to the right gear, or give enough rpm for the obstacle. Not everything in life has to be the easiest. Learning a skill is rewarding. Driving a stick and rev matching is rewarding. Most people I talk to their excuse for not wanting a manual is because they need to use their phone. Why? Drive the Jeep. That new manual setup looks so smooth and comfortable. They've come a long way.

    As s semi truck driver who has driven 18, 13 & 10 speeds. Just think of 1st gear as what we call a creeper gear. It’s just there to get you moving if you’re heavy loaded. Empty we usually start off in 2 or 3. In terms of a manual jeep the 1st gear is ideal for off-roading or if towing and need to get moving. I wouldn’t recommend starting off in 2nd though… unless you’re facing downhill and roll a bit to get speed up 1st. You’ll burn the clutch if towing and try to start off in 2nd especially on flat or uphill.

    This is a pretty good P.O.V video. Recently got the chance to test drive a JT Rubicon 6-spd. The thing that is jarring is how it just falls of the cliff going from 2nd to 3rd. Not the fault of transmission per se, but the gearing is bad for daily on-road use. You can clearly see that in the RPM drop in this video. Watch the shifts from 2nd to 3rd. Yet I still prefer the manual in my daily driver Rubicon. I did switch out the shifter for the B&M kit from Holley. Shorter throw and more solid feedback because, IMO, the stock manual was too soft and the throw was too long. The JL already has a clutch that is way too soft IMO so the shift kit takes the edge off that a little.

      Means when you hit the gas before a downshift to match the engine rpm to the road speed in the next lower gear. Some cars have really lazy throttle response and is annoying to match revs if you need a quick downshift like in traffic.
      Ideally you would be in gear, push the clutch, put it in neutral, let the clutch up, blip the throttle to match the rpm to road speed then hit the clutch again and put it in the gear you desire. That puts the least wear on the synchros.

  • @superluig164

      @superluig164 2 роки тому

      @@maestrojo That seems counter intuitive, if the car in front of you stops, you're gonna hit them unless you brake yourself, which defeats the purpose of letting it brake for you. I guess the car can't be expected to get all the way to a stop or accelerate without clutch-by-wire though... I suppose it's better than nothing though.

  • @miguelrodriguez-st3io
    @miguelrodriguez-st3io 3 місяці тому

    The push start could be held down at first to automatically start the car right away instead of pressing it the first time then hold it. The 1st gear in any regular car especially bigger vehicles like trucks, off-road SUVs, jeep gladiators etc are meant to start the initial movement of the vehicle, they are not meant to linger on or drive in higher rpm’s unless creeping through traffic. Look at manual 18 wheelers and watch how quickly that 1st to 2nd gear shift takes. This isn’t a race car.

I will never buy a mopar manual transmission again. I have 40 years experience driving manual transmissions, and the mopar transmission is the first that failed that quickly.....

    dude its a jeep.. in my perspective a jeep should never feel smooth or too fancy to drive.. it should feel jeepy and its so satisfying when you hear the mechanical sounds. love the manual transmission. they should make the gear stick even more bigger and little thinner on diameter so it feels more like the classic jeep.

  • @SpeedDemonExpress
    @SpeedDemonExpress 16 днів тому

    Guy has no idea what he's talking about synchros. Most transmissions use the same synchros for all gears. The synchro speeds up or slows down the gear you're shifting into using friction. Rev matching reduces the work the synchro needs to do. Once it's in gear the synchro is not in use. So taking off in second gear is not a problem. It will put extra wear on the clutch if the gearing is not low enough.

    Been driving a manual for 30 years.. this is the worst manual transmission I’ve ever driven.. and i drove a car without synchromesh.. if you want a JL buy the automatic or get the bronco
    Edit: should add the transmission itself is a rebranded Aisin and is a little notchy, but reliable. The issue is the clutch pedal assembly and the drive by wire.. the pedal assembly is plastic and over time groans and binds, the drive by wire has days of delay, not good for a manual. Also the on/off is on the clutch.. it’s annoying as all hell..
