One of us is living in the limelight it seems..... also looks like we've got something in common.... and we've lost that spirit for radio.... :P Bought mine in 2002 I believe in downtown Barrie, ON. They had this cool guitar store just a short walk from my bangin' apartment and honestly, it was a staple for a lot of years. I believe I sold it in 2009 in Newfoundland? Yes b'y!
I’ve had this thing for 20 years and I am 27 years old. Still use it almost daily to practise. But back in the high school days it had plenty of band practise action too. Love it to this day ❤️
I have the 10w The 30X and the 80X and tomorrow a 20w is due to arrive. I have many other amps but for jams these are bomb proof and easy to quickly get a decent sound with. Up until last year when I got a Katana 100 I was using the 80w Cube to gig with. I've spent a lot of time with them over the years so I've learned to get good sounds quickly. All of mine are in great shape. The only reason I got the 20 thats supposed to be here tomorrow is for taking around for little jams/lessons. The 10w is fine but it has the little power cord that's the size of a headphone jack and it makes me nervous as much as I take it places. the 20 has the normal power cord you'd find on a Katana or Blackstar. The funny thing about this 20w Cube is that it's brand new in box. It's been sitting in a NY music store for years. They posted it on Reverb 6 years ago. When I called to see if they had it and forgot to take it down, I was told it's just in the back new in box. Got it for almost nothing.
That’s one I’ve never tried. For what they are, they’re good amps! I never sold mine. It’s great if I don’t want to use my Kemper somewhere or if someone else needs an amp.
This is my amp, and I have the footswitch for it. Mine is a dual footswitch (fs-6), and you can switch between channels using one switch, and with the other you turn the effects on or off. You do need a stereo cable for this to work though
I have a Cube 40GX. If you look up in the dictionary most underrated amp in history of the world, there’s a picture of the cube 40 GX. If you can find one of these buy it don’t even think about it. They’re incredible built like tanks. Sounds like a symphony.
NP. I felt like i needed more practice before I did this video hah. These amps are good for practice and jamming. Effects are okay but you can get some useable tone fast with it. If you need something newer sometime, Boss Katana's are a good option.
Mine always turns on even after sitting around. Once during a power outage, I plugged into a generator and just jammed because it had been a few days without power. I got a Boss Katana mini that runs on a batteries now though so I can use it.
why mine doesn't have any distortion effect when i switch to metal and i tried every single effects on my amp? mine is Roland Cube 30X. do you use a pedal on this video?
@@rajatanazriel400 No pedals. Sounds like something is wrong. Is the volume up? I’m only asking because this has happened to me before. “You sold me a busted amp!” Though this sounds like something is off.
Bought one when they first came out. Still have it and use it for backup at gigs. I've used it on stage mic'd a couple of times and it works OK but l normally use a Cube 80X that I bought secondhand for gigs. I just use the JC Clean and the Classic channels, some of the other sounds are a bit ***p really. These amps sound lots better turned up with the gain turned down a bit, so they're more of a stage amp than a practice amp for me. I've played a Katana mark I through a 4x12 when my band mate had one for a while but I wasn't blown away, so I still use the Cube.
I've got Roland Cube 20x. Bought it back in 2007 when i started playing guitar. Never really progressed far with my guitar playing back then but recently i have gotten down to it and trying to get better. Not really satisfied with the sound of this amp anymore though. What sound upgrade would you recommend? PC interface, tube amp, multieffect pedal? Really confused with so many options.
The question I have for you is do you want an amp or to play into a pc? I think the Boss Katana stuff is sweet. Having an interface is awesome especially if you have monitors because you can then use plugins and there are free ones.
@@BrianBower Thank you for your reply. I guess i will go for the PC option now and as i get used to the sound i will check out some tube amps and see if i like their sound better. Does that seem reasonable?
I found a used one in an electronic surplus store about 6 years ago. I took a chance on it. It didn't work. I got it fixed. It broke again. Repair people got it working. They said if it crapped out again, it would need a new board. It crapped out again. New board cost more than a new Katana. I gutted it and drive the speaker with an EHX Howitzer. I can do most all the stuff the amp did with pedals. I wish I could make it sound as good as yourself.
I was surprised it sounded this good. Never used the recording out until I did this video. The thing with these amps is a lot of them probably were just used and abused. Mine hasn’t been treated like ass. If the new board costs that much, I’d just get the Katana. If you like the pedal thing, I suggest checking out my friends channel. His name is Derryl Vi and he can dial in tones so much better than me with pedals!
As someone who owned a Spider II during this era, can confirm it had more of a digital sound than the cube. I'd say the advantage of the spider in terms of it being a practice amp was that it had a 12 inch speaker in it. Also I am shocked at the recording out sounds you were getting with this. I guess that's the difference of using an interface vs. direct in to the build in sound card, like a lot of us tried back in the day.
Oh yeah that’s right. Yours had that 12 inch. Also I think this was easier to work with as you didn’t have to save your settings. The spider had that insane channel which is so cool when you know nothing haha. My pod had it too. Oh man, I tried to record so many things with a sound card and it added all the gain. The recording out on this amp is actually perfectly fine.
Sounds spiky because you don’t have it set up right. You’ve got a tweak these amps. You should be on Clean and then add a little bit of plate reverb and adjust your EQ as you desire. Mine sounds 10 times better than yours no offense dude. and honestly, your guitar doesn’t sound like it’s well suited for this particular amp. I bet if you played it without the pick, it would sound amazing.
@@JN-qj9gf The signals may be altered digitally, but I'm quite certain the amplification itself is analog. I believe it's the old push pull class B circuit. Mine had a large chip that was used for the signal processing. Unfortunately, it could not be economically repaired.
I wanted one of these badly back in 2005 but I couldn't afford it! I would play it at the music store every chance I got. By the time I pulled together 350 dollars I ended up deciding I needed a tube amp and bought a Peavey Valve King (which, looking back, sounded a lot shittier than this amp)
Who owned one of these or still does?

I had the 15 watt version. The plastic nuts on the inputs broke so I gave it away. It was great for what it was though!
