Repairing a Roland Cube 30X with a faulty selector switch. original repair thread at music electronics forum: music-electron... Replacement switch: uk.rs-online.c...
Thank you. I have the exact same issue. Seems to be a common fault. Gonna fix mine up too. I have been waiting approximately 5-6 years for a video like yours, as I am hopeless at fixing things, especially electronics, and there weren't any dealing with that model, and neither my local guitar store nor the manual was any help either. Your video helped me tremendously.
I have the same amplifier, and the same problem, if someone needs to buy the selector, it's an SR1712F-0108, I just bought it new, although disassembling it can surely be fixed as you did, thank you very much for the help
Wow. Thanks a lot. My input jack fall into the amp after the plastic locking thing broke into pieces. I tried all the large screws but I did'nt think I should unscrew the top two at the handle. And even if I would unscrew that, I wouldn't dare to apply that force I needed to move the switchboard.
Hi You said the plastic part of that switch you bought was a bit short, did RS sell an alternative with a bit more plastic on it, or is it not necessary? Thanks
The part I linked was the closest match from rs at the time of the video. The shaft is slightly short but acceptable. A closer match may be available depending on where you are in the world and when you order.
I have one for repair here. It turns on but all lights go up and no sound. The analog session appears to be working but it is the digital parts that worry me...
I'm not sure if that could be the selector switch or not. I guess the switch has two failure states. It can short and connect two or more models simultaneously or it can fail open? I never tested to see how it behaved in either case. You could roll the selector switch around and see if anything changes. ...but there are so many other things it could be. Probably it's a different problem. I would start by taking the boards out and inspecting them. Checking the connectors are all seated. Looking for blown caps or anything else scorched looking. That sort of thing. Sorry I am not enough of a cube expert to help more.
13:11 I agree . this will be my last Roland product. They use cheap crap inside and they fail too much. very dissapointed with Roland. I love it when it works but every Roland product I've owned has some kind of issue at some point, mainly because of the subpar parts!
Hi nice video, i got an 80x and the effects dont turn off is there a way to disconect them? I dont use them . The flanger effect is alway on cant use the amp. Can you help?
Sorry I am not familiar with that problem. Does the knob still change the effect type or amount? What happens if you try to turn the effect off with a footswitch?
Probably not. And definitely not cheaply. I bought a switch from a large UK seller that was similar enough to work. The best place to buy an affordable replacement will depend on where you live.
Went through the same failed, frustrating repair attempt. Any chance you have the stock/part number for the rotary switch? There's a few on the RS site. Cheers
hi sir may I ask if what is the code no. of the 2 transistor. that attached in heat sink. I need to know because I have a amp like yours. but my amp have a problem. the 2 transistor is missing I need your help Thanks alot
It is a big fault Roland amps are crap build quality I have not come across one yet without some sort of problem with the dial/switches great little amps when they work but not built for the long term steer clear I say and the customer service at Roland is garbage cannot get them repaired very easy.
I wouldn't recommend anyone do this as a business. But it's satisfying from an environmental and from a personal development perspective to be able to keep a repairable appliance out of landfill. Total parts cost
I picked up one of these amps at the recycle depot, it has no wires to the transformer so I have no clue how to or where to solder new wiring. I figured I'd fix it and sell it to someone who might play guitar. any idea where the wiring goes to the transformer...any help is always appreciated

I am so alone I cannot deal with this anymore

Hello there, wonderful video. I have a problem with uneven volume swell when increased just a bit. How to solve? Will a contact cleaner work?

I think it must be rust. It is all rusted and corroded inside. Needs a deep cleaning for start.

Yup. Mine was fine, dropped it off my bed onto the floor and boom now I only got the clean channel .
So I can buy that switch from Roland themselves?
Probably not. And definitely not cheaply. I bought a switch from a large UK seller that was similar enough to work. The best place to buy an affordable replacement will depend on where you live.

Time plus materials you could have bought a used replacement amp much cheaper
