    This amp was a game changer for me. Been a Marshall guy all my playing life, but from the first few minutes of playing the BCA I knew this was the sound in my head. Gigged nothing else for the past 3 years or so. This has been one of the most informative vids on this amp and its capabilities, thank you Toby.

      Hi mate I'm a Marshall player and I'm want a change - Love everything I see and hear on the blues cube but none of the videos really give it any bollocks - is the crunch channel meaty enough - not metal style - more 70s punk rock - cheers

    • @fastacesus8499

      @@whiterat1977 ok what I always say is that this is a different experience to playing a Marshall. I should know since I gigged a DSL Head for years. Current band we play mostly indie pop. Heaviest its gets is Greenday and Stereophonics. To get more Knarl from her you have to engage the boost. I guess if I was playing in a rock band I would use pedals. Punk I am not sure. Some bands that I remember were actually fairly clean but just had everything on 10. Some used fender amps but cannot remember any using tweed amps. Hence I am not convinced this would be my first choice.

    Really good review, Toby. The late Michael Casswell spoke to me about this amp after he did the Guitarist review of it and he loved it. It's taken since then to get one (and lugging around a 40Kg tube amp is taking its toll!), but it arrives tomorrow. It really does sound like a cracking piece of gear and there are so many people testifying to that.

    I have a Mesa Boogie for gigging, and a Roland Blues Cube Hot for use at home. Both sound so incredible that it truly proves that solid state amps have finally gotten there.
    Truth is that I could gig with either, both would sound incredible, nobody would know the Blues Cube wasn’t a tube amp, and every model of Blues Cube is within any musician’s reach.
    There’s really no downside to the Blues Cube. It’s, simply, an incredible amplifier.

    Toby, you are totally right about this amp. I own the Stage version, a bit simpler as you miss out on the tremolo and the presence but it has the same pros as the Artist version. So nice to carry 14 kilo's only and to be able to gig in whatever setting!

    Thanks for making this video. I own a Stage model and this really helped me understand some key features better (I tend to play jazz, and it has never occurred to me to go in through the low output, will definitely play with that) I see a lot of controversy and dissatisfaction concerning this amp on boards and whatnot and I think a lot of this has to do with Roland just not explaining how to use this amp very well while advertising the tone capsules which strike people as gimmicky. And honestly the stock tones are so good and has so many options that I haven’t considered buying one of those. I briefly considered trading in for a Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb for a bit, but reading up on and listening to demos I think I’ll stick with my BC.

    Great demo of a great amp. I have the blues cube hot and love it. These amps will easily do clean and rock all day. And adding the right pedal will get you to metal territory. Lightweight, great tones and no tubes to worry about and they are built really well. I first bought a katana 50 mk2 then went on to the 100 mk2 and wasn’t totally happy with my sound until I got the blues cube hot. It’s night and day between the Roland and Boss amps imo.

    Having the amp for a couple of years now, my favourite setting is the clean volume on 9-11 while having the master at 3-4 (15 W mode). But that changes according to the guitar/pickup output. A tube screamer and a wah in front and off you go. It sounds just very good and reacts very sensitive to the volume and eq settings of the guitar. The Boss Nextone amps are similar I guess. And replying very late to your answer: Well, I don't care about tube or transistor or plastic as long as it just sounds good. But above all; aside from the maintenance and weight of tube gear: I shouldn't have to be deafeningly loud to sound good. And I and many others don't have the space for that anyway.
    I don't think I will ever need a tone capsule. The Dual Tone mode is the only odd thing about this amp I think. I coul not get anything out of it.
    Hope you are well. Best regards from Istanbul.

    Great overview, though might have mentioned the additional tubes you can add at the back - had mine a year before anyone explained that to me. There is a removable cover which allows you to add tubes (small valve looking gizmos) that change characteristics of the amp - there is a Robben Ford and Robert Johnson one plus a couple of others - though they are pretty expensive!

    hi toby, ur review is probably the best in these high end boss Roland amp lines. but I do suggest you one thing. the power section is not just about the tone, but also about the interaction between the amp and the speakers. if u have the footswitch, u can actually control the master volume with an expression pedal. one thing you definitely should try out it to max out the master volume and put the power section at low levels. u will notice that ur speaker will react different, and u can mess around and find totally new tones. and yes, u'd be able to djent ;p. great review. I'm an owner os the Waza amp, and it totally blows valve amps in my opinion. controllable volume and controllable speaker reactions are totally changing my world. great review

    Thanks for the good and solid advice about how to tame the sometimes somewhat shrill and harsh higher frequences through use of the line out function in an amp which corrects that specific problem.
    I actually come very close to buying a Boss Nextone Artist due to its versatility but gave it a pass because that model sadly tends to have a just a little bit of a harsh and shrill frequency hidden somewhere in its tonal voice at higher volumes.

    I've been very happy with my Artist with the Ultimate Blues tone capsule, which I think is no longer available new (gives it a Super Reverb/Black Face tone and head room). It does take pedals very well and as you said, 45w is more than enough for small venue gigs/jam sessions. I think Roland did mess up with the tone capsule deal though, with the cost of the capsules, it didn't go over real well....just speculating, but I think they kind of corrected it with the Boss Nextone series having the different tube style selections built in.

    Excellent playing and very useful video, I’ll try your settings. I bought the 1-12” Blues Cube in 2016 to not subject my Fuchs ODS50 to the perils of the road.
    I discovered that the Blues Cube was as good as you say it is but I noticed a lack of low end in all settings. After returning home I decided to purchase the Ultimate Blues Tone Capsule. Apparently it “swaps” virtual 6V6 power tubes for the 6L6 circuit in the base Blues Cube model. Presto, the missing low end was restored, along with a more “organic” overdrive tone. After a few years of happy ownership of the D-Style Fuchs ODS50 I was happily surprised when the Robben Ford Tone Capsule (6L6 or 6V6?) was announced, it’s currently installed in my Blues Cube. The Tone Capsules were pricey then, but I’m glad I have them now that they’re discontinued. The Robben Ford one is very close to my Fuchs 4 x 6V6 ODS50 (probably the best amp I’ve ever played since my sorely-missed tweed Bassman) so I’m ready for any future amp-sensible touring.
    Regarding the Blues Cube MASTER volume control, I am seeing some rock players leaving it on maximum, using the INPUT control for volume (not tone) adjustments. Haven’t tried it myself.
    Another bonus touring feature of the 1-12” model is lighter weight. Having played for over 60 years I don’t miss carrying around my Plexi stack or 60 pound Marshall 2100 combo. I did wish I had those English amps in their homeland for the Royal Albert Hall gig I played in the 70’s, but that’s another story… BTW, I would not expect Fender-inspired amps to sound very “JTM” even though they were the inspiration for Marshall amps. Could be that EL-style tubes, virtual or real, are required.
    I look forward to watching all of your videos, especially the Blues Cube ones!

    Hi. First of all - you play really really great. It is a pleasure to listen. Second: I swapped a Fender Blues DeLuxe full tube amp with a blues cube stage. No regrets at all. I don't believe in the tube thing anymore. I will not even discuss it. If Robben Ford thinks this is good enough...

    I was surprised to hear that this amp is often used for pedal steel guitar. For it to work on a pedal steel guitar it must have great clarity and great headroom. That would mean that it would work great for jazz guitarist who want a clean, warm tone.

    OMG! I've been looking for a tube amp and a Monoprice 1w or 15 w is on my list. However, this amp reminds me of the Jazz master that Joni mitchell used on the song Amillia( the chorus and tremelo). I've been fixated on tube amps only and this amp does tease my interest, albiet at a larger cost. The wattage level controls is super.

    This amp line seems perfect for that heavy mid Albert Collins quacky tone. Does it respond like a tube amp where cranking the master to push the preamp helps achieve the best tone? Nice playing.

    Thanks for a great vid! In looking for as huge a clean with as much overhead as possible, without break-up. I use pedals for my drive and dirt. Do you think this is loud enough clean? Could this keep up with a drummer in a 100 person sized room?

    • @tobypearson7622
      @tobypearson7622  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes I'd say this amp could comfortably handle a clean sound against a drummer in the 45w/80w setting with no issues! If for some reason you're thinking it's not loud enough (I'm convinced it will be though!) then you can always put a mic in front of it or take the 'line out' from the amp, to get some more guitar back in your monitors through the PA! 👍

    I have a Stage, I love it… simple controls, high quality construction… other ‘modelling’ amps always seem to get multiple options/amp types/memory settings… it’s almost like they need to justify a high price for a ‘solid state’ amp by adding all this stuff. From my POV Roland got it spot on for people like me who use/have used valve amps and know what they want… the down side is that others look at the price and compare to a valve amp, they not only miss the point, but they miss out on a great sounding amp. I do prefer the Artist to the Stage, for me it ‘breathes’ more (slightly bigger cab), the presence control is very useful, not fussed about effects loop… it was just a little bit too expensive for me…

    Hi Toby. Really great video. You did an awesome job of explaining the amp and playing it extremely well. I’m looking for an amp with more headroom than my Fender Blues Junior. Would this fill the bill in terms of that raw amp goodness? Thanks 🙏

    • @tobypearson7622
      @tobypearson7622  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks Scott! In terms of competing for headroom with the blues junior, it depends on the model of blues cube you'd get. The higher the wattage (like the 'stage' or 'artist' models and above) the greater the volume you can get while remaining clean. If I was after the greatest amount of headroom, I'd use the 'low' input, make sure the 'boost' switch is off on the clean channel, and then use a higher power output wattage - this is all to get you to your desired volume quicker, while keeping the preamp volume/gain lower than the point of breakup, which is usually around halfway up the clean channel volume. The guitar you use will also affect how easily the amp breaks up too - this applies to your blues junior as well of course!
      So in summary (sorry for the lengthy answer!) I'd say the blues cube could work very well for you! I know the blues cube 'hot' is a smaller and lower wattage amp, and I'm pretty sure it breaks up quicker, so that would probably be one to avoid if more headroom is your thing...
      Hope this helps! 🙂

    Hey Toby, I am Looking at Three Amps: The Roland blues Cube, Boss Katana Artist, Boss Nextone special I play thru several pedals and have only played thru the boss Katana Artist which is incredible I play Motown, 80's funk, smooth jazz and a few classic rock songs which one would you choose and why? The music store here had the roland blues cube hot which didn't impress me.

    • @tobypearson7622
      @tobypearson7622  3 роки тому +1

      As far as I know (having only played the BC Artist and a Boss Katana Head mk1) I think they are all impressively versatile amps! And from what you're telling me about what you play, it sounds like versatility is important (as it is for me)! In terms of the sheer amount of gadgets and lowest price point (I think?), the Katana will have the edge, with it's many in built FX and adjustable parameters. But if you're just wanting a couple of core, reliable and amazing tones to use as a platform for your pedals, I'd go for the BC Artist.
      However, it seems to me - without trying one myself - that the Nextone amps bridge the gap between the Blues Cube and Katana amps. I think they have a couple of on board FX like the delay and reverb, and a few power amp voicing to choose from with a few adjustable parameters via the software, similar to the Katana (very handy!) but ultimately it seems quite easy to get familiar and usable tones pretty quickly without much fuss... To me based on appearance and after watching a couple of videos, it's like a blend of the other two amps, whether that's what Boss/Roland intended or not!
      Ultimately it's what you think is best, I just hope my perspective is helpful in some way! Good luck with your quest for tone! 👍
