Excellent demo - the Cube 30x is a perfect amp for what it does!

Thanks so much for the support! And well said, that's the best way to describe this amp.

I have had this amp for about 10 years, it's been neglected and collecting dust. This video inspired me to fire it up again.

Haha! Same again! That's why I googled for the amp model to see if it's still valued by guitar players. I thought of giving it away at first, then about selling it if there's still a used market for the cubeX series.. and now I'm more leaning towards maybe keeping it, lol!

The 30X is great. It takes pedals pretty well, especially on the JC Clean that simulates the Roland JC-120 Chorus amp that is still famous for its capacities at handling pedals. I use a Boss hardcore on the Brit stack sim and crank the gain. It's hard Metal & really loud!
I also pass it along to my mom who plays her Roland Keyboard (a guitar amp isn't supposed to work with keyboards bc of limited frequencies range), but it works very well. The piano stays clean. Surprise. I've ordered an Alesis edrum kit (frequency range is even larger on drums than keyboards) and I'm going to test the frequencies limits and see what I get. I'm guessing that it'll work ok for home stuff. Not a studio amp by any stretch of the imagination, but a sturdy, reliable and decent practice amp.

Love my Cube 30x. I use clean, Tweed and Classic Stack almost exclusively, though. If you're beginner/intermediate, a Cube and a MIM Strat or Tele will keep you busy and happy, lots of tones to explore before you find *your* tone and start big spending on valves and pedals.

I got one used a few days ago and i gotta say, as the first sirious amp i own, this thing is really impressive. Also the amp has a really good chunky distorted (almost fuzzy) tone when on high gain.

I bought a used one several years ago.(60 watt) It crapped out. Cost more to get it fixed than a Katana. I still use it. I gutted it. I run an EHX 15W howitzer into the speaker. Pedals give me all the sounds needed.

Sounded great on the Jazz, Acoustic and Fender settings, not so much on the higher gain models IMO. But isn't that the case with most digital amps.

    • @joeytheguitarplayer

I would agree that the “Clean - Cleanish” settings here were way more useable than I originally thought.. Really good for what this little amp is you know.. And esp how cool the AC sim is!
But yea.. the High Gain options here were not my favorite haha..

From my experience the 'Dyna Amp' setting simulates a tube amp a bit. A little bit like a Plexi or older Fender amp. With the gain low you get those classic 'on the nudge of breaking up' sounds and the amp responds pretty dyna-mic (pun intented ;) ) going from a clean to a light break-up type tone. With the gain up it sounds more like a cranked old Marshall or Bassman.

Line out sounds great, planning to pick up a used 30x in a couple of days. I was thinking of getting a Katana or something but I don't really want to spend almost $400 CAD after tax.

I don't know if this is much of a tip, but another thing the manual for these Cubes mentions is that when the EQ knobs are turned all the way down on the Fender models, the amp makes no sound. I saw a guy in another video turn the treble and mid knobs all the way down and turn bass almost all the way up on the Tweed ('59 Bassman 4×10) model and get a decent bass amp sound. I don't know what it sounds like doing that with the Black Panel model (or the Deluxe Combo model of other Cube amps). I got mine back from the shop, but I had it fixed in order to loan it to a friend who temporarily needed an amp for his acoustic-electric, which is where it is now.

If you like this little amp try the boss katana 100 it's got the sweet cleans like the cube but has very good lead and high gain tone . I too have a helix and axe-fx II and still use both the cube 30x and katana 100 all great tools.

Hi! Thank you for your cool review ! I'd like to know with
the brit combo sound, is it possible to keep it clean (in order to add after some pedals), because i already have a micro cube gx and i really like this sound but on other reviews of your amp, the brit combo sound seamed to be very distorted very quickly ?

Just out of curiosity, have you a-b'd this amp between the speaker and a pair of headphones? The manual for it says that the COSM models will sound better through headphones. I have this amp, but I haven't tried it through headphones yet. Mine's currently in the shop for a small repair.

    • @joeytheguitarplayer

Not a specific A-B. But, the speaker's not too bad in my opinion.

Hemanta kakati I had the GXon pedal before I got the GP-10 it didn’t really tickle me. I like the GP- a lot paired wit the microcube gx it’s great I lean towards cleaner/lightly overdriven tones so I don’t know how it would chug. But I’ve done a ton of sessions with this little rig and I get ??’s later like did you a deluxe or twin on that recording.......I always answer ancient Japanese secret.
If you ever go to upgrade look at the SY-1000 it’s the big brother of the GP-10 it has better modeling of everything. And get a gk-3 pickup it makes the system.

Question for those who own one, do these have a constant background hiss, even when on idle without a guitar plugged in? I had a 40X that did that, which for me playing at low bedroom - office volumes was too annoying, but otherwise was very good. So was it just that one or do they all do that? Thanks!

@@5pqrt5t3r6 Yes, that one did with nothing plugged in at all, amp volumes turned down, etc. Just an inherent white noise. FWIW, I have a 2014 Fender Mustang II v.2 that is always dead quiet in that regard and is a pretty good practice amp for all the familiar Fenderish tones.
