    Thank you for this!! I'm still a beginner and didnt realize there would be a difference for months. I think some of my stuff has a mix because i forget. Its a learning process 😂 hopefully now i will pay more attention

      I’m happy it was useful! There is not right or wrong, it’s just matter of preference, it’s just important to be consistent so the work doesn’t look weird ☺️

      This is so true for me too. I’m a beginner and don’t always pay attention to how I’m doing my stitches. Sometimes, I randomly change the style I’m crocheting in because it feels “different,” kind if like how if you say a word too many times, it starts to feel off. 😂 So I 100% believe I mix my stitches.
      My ADHD brain has no less than 10 different things flying past my frontal love per second, so I crochet mostly by muscle memory. Unless, of course, I’m doing something new for the first time. But after I get the hang of it, my mind wanders, and I couldn’t tell you which stitch style I do. 😂 Pretty sure I mix the styles frequently.
      I also use large stitches (like double and treble crochets) because I prefer to crochet clothing rather than amigurumi, so in my experience, double crochets and larger don’t look that different yarn under vs. yarn over. But I’m still a n00b so what do I know. 😅

    I always yarn over Hence why the pattern states YO= Yarn Over…..some people do half of the stitch one way & half of it the opposite…that would do me in 😂😂😂

    Oh god I've been crocheting for almost 4 years and just realized my single crochets are a weird hybrid of yarn under and yarn over 💀 It never made a difference in doilies and shawls but on amigurumi it was looking so weird and I finally know why. Thank you so much!!!

    i realized yarn under is really helpful when doing the invisible decrease, which is why i prefer it for most of my amigurumi

    Ohhh that's why my stuff is really stiff. The very first amigurumi tutorial video I ever followed used the yarn under method so I've just been using that all this time lol

    I yarn under then over to complete the stich snd it doesnt make a diffetence in the final result. Still looks like yarn under

    oh i did not realize i had bren doing yarn under the whole time i’ve been crocheting! i just freehand a lot of stuff and have been learning as i go through trial and error rather than making my life easier by learning to read and use patterns 😭 but because i just go with the flow, sometimes i realize i’ve been doing things “wrong” even though i like the result. i will do a few projects though using yarn over technique that way i can actually understand the difference and make an intentional choice of which i like better! :)

    I would prefer yarn under cuz its faster to do and it’s looks neat

      Some people struggle with yarn under and find it slower, but it’s really a matter of preference ☺️ the important thing is that you like what you’re doing and it makes you feel relaxed and accomplished ☺️

      I think yarn over & hand wrapping yarn is so much slower….my yarn just glides through my fingers I don’t have to think about it.

    I just started with amigurumi and I like yarn under,yarn over. So you do both in the same stitch. Then you get the nice X-shapes but it doesn't look wuite as bubbly id that makes sense 🥰

      I’m not sure I understand what you mean, but if yours looks little bit bubbly it might be a tension issue, maybe you’re not tense enough. It can happen at the beginning ☺️

    I’m half way through a blanket (my first project) and have been wondering why I have an x instead of a v shape turns out I’ve been doing yarn under, I’m too far in now to fix it

      But there is no need to fix it ☺️: there isn’t right or wrong - it’s just matter of preference knowing that the results can be different both in terms of the shape of the stitch and in the final size/measurements. Now you know the difference and next time you can decide which method to use ☺️

      Usually amigurumi is under because it needs to be stiff and clothes, blankets etc is over because it needs the stretch. That's what i have read

    I really can't find the difference between the two methods but somehow I think I might be using the "under yarn" method, since I can't see my stitches while following amigurumi pattern (I'm also using yarn and I think I should switch to cotton 🤔)

      I think you might see better the difference if you try both of them following the video and stopping when you need to.
      In my personal opinion, cotton is best option for amigurumi, but it’s just my preference ☺️

    What if you combine them? First yarn over then under in one single cechet stich or vice versa will it also make an x shape?

      The shape would little bit different, but if you do yarn over and then yarn under it would look like more a X than a V, my suggestion is to try maybe a couple of rounds to see the results ☺️

      Not strange at all, many people mix them around,,there is not right or wrong, the important thing is that you’re consistent with your method so you don’t have weird mix of stitches ☺️

      For beginners yarn under might be little bit tricky because you use less yarn, but you can give it a try and see how it goes.
      At the end of the day it’s just matter of preference really, but the important thing is that your piece is made with all the same technique, don’t alternate them, because the shape of the stitches will be different and the final result might look weird ☺️

      If you look at the video when I show the V and the X shape, that will appear different if you switch between them ☺️

    I do yarn under, yarn over, instead of yarn under yarn under. And it gives me the same X stitch. I’m not sure if you can do it both ways or if I just learned this wrong.

      It’s a technique that you can use with every stitch, but it’s particularly famous for Single Crochet and Amigurumi specifically.

    i had heard that doing yarn under makes the piece come out looking neater but i feel like your ball on the left (yarn over) looks better. is it just my preference or is this just not a good example, or are all those people i hear the advice from wrong!?

      I think it’s really a matter of preference. In general the work with yarn under can look neater because, using less yarn, you have less holes naturally. I’m personally quite tight as tension so my works look neat with both methods.

      To see the difference, look closely the movement of the hook, you will notice that the yarn is taken in a different way, once over and once under the hook. Basically yarn over means that the yarn goes over the hook while yarn under means the yarn goes under the hook ☺️

      It can happen at the beginning, it might be that your tension on the previous loops is too tight, try to loosen it a little bit. ☺️
