The video alone included in the game is a great watch just for the entertainment value. My oldest son watched it over and over when he was a wee lad.

I always wanted a copy as a kid because it was so heavily promoted in comic books I collected at the time. Never did find a new copy in the store.

I really like Dragonstrike. For me, it really came out at the right time where I finished all the quests in HeroQuest and was looking for something similar. I feel that it really encouraged much more imaginative play than HQ did.
Personally, I think all the figurines could be used for HQ, and vice versa.
I would definitely like to see this game return in some manner.
Thank you Ash for the blast from the past.

Love it, I bought a copy of this again last year. My kids love it (though they also love HeroQuest more). This game could use some homebrew love, they just never provided the tools to do so quite like HeroQuest did

We still play this from time to time. I even crossed it with HQ because I wanted a giant and dragon in HQ.

I remember the game when it was released, sorry I didnt pick it up back then. The board looks like it'll HQ, and I like the idea of a count down time.
I'll have to rewatch this vid later, but if there is a map book and a seperate quest book, I like that concept, and could see trying to do a quest set for HQ, makes it easier for multipage adventures, and revisiting some quests for subsequent quests.

It seems like a really neat and ambitious game, it's strange how I never saw any D&D board games as a kid. That being said they really wasted the term "Ameritrash" by not using it to describe D&D's attempted fantasy aesthetic.

I remember getting this on clearance from KayBee toys for like 10 bucks. Played it with my cousins but we liked Heroquest better. When they left at the end of summer they took this with them.

DragonStrike is a fun game, and I got it in the '90s a while after getting HeroQuest. I think my favorite thing about it is the feat system, which adds something that HQ really could use. Being able to talk to monsters is an amusing touch, but it's really the feats that differentiate DS from HQ. Adding something like DS's feat (of strength, dexterity, etc) system into HeroQuest is quite worthwhile and definitely adds a lot to the game.
Despite that, DS is nowhere near as great as HeroQuest, though, for several reasons. There is no campaign for one, only single missions. You don't keep anything you find, don't name your hero, none of that. That's both good and bad perhaps, having both options is nice, but going on a longer adventure is fun and with this game you can't really unless you make it up yourself. And with how each one is designed for a different number of heroes, there may be only a few pre-designed quests that work well for you. I have more good memories of playing made-up, multi-board DS adventures than I do following the built-in quests, a rare thing for me; I usually prefer following the rules. I also almost never like timers in games, and the turn limit before the dragon comes system is pretty annoying, I don't like it at all. I've never played a homebrew DS quest with a dragon timer.
Additionally, DS doesn't come with as many plastic figures as HQ does. It has more heroes and many fewer foes. Sure, many monsters are stronger so each encounter may take longer, but even so I have often wondered why the game didn't come with more stuff! It's larger than the HQ box, but actually it has less stuff in it than HQ's box, two boards excepted... and those boards are slightly smaller in size than the original HQ board. I have wondered whether too much of DS's budget went into the movie and not enough into the contents of the box, a few more monsters would have been great. Obviously an expansion pack adding more monsters and such would also have been fantastic, but sadly that never happened. What a shame. I know it'd be a bit tricky to make work with how each monster has a spot on the DM board for their health clip, but surely something could be made to work. Back in the '90s I put everything from HQ, DS, and the two HQ expansion packs I had all in the DragonStrike box, and it fits no problem with a bit of lid lift. (Well, it wouldn't fit with the VHS in the box perhaps, but that I keep separately.) It's all still there. ... I don't know where my original HeroQuest box is, though, that might be gone. Ah well.
As for the movie that came in the box, I love it, I don't care what anyone says. It's incredibly corny but in the best ways. Great stuff. I have watched it many times.

Could use as a timer before monsters begin spawning. Or Spawn monsters while the timer is active and Spawn the boss when it hits 0.
You can use it to track luck - allow a hero to deduct a point from the counter to re-roll a die. Move the tracker back up one space if you'd like to allow a monster to reroll.
You could track extra spell or ability uses with it. When the wizard casts a spell, regain the spell by spending points on the track. (Could say it works because the heroes are outside where magic flows freely rather than a cramped dungeon?)

I paid more for mine, although a friend just scored one for 100, so you might kind of see what they go for here and there. Vintage games have a way of rising and falling in price throughout the year!
