- An interview with Pat Phoenix on Wogan from Friday 27 June 1986. This interview is quite sad as it was possibly Pat's final ever television interview. She passed away 3 months later on 17 September after a brave battle fighting lung cancer.
Derek Jameson was guest hosting in place of Terry Wogan. A big thank you to the person who sent me this and asked me to upload it for them.

10 weeks later she was dead. It’s hard to comprehend. Absolute legend what a real British star.
No way
She was an absolute legend
13 weeks later she died
The last photo of her in hospital she was frail and lost so much weight
She was very nice, I saw her at Charing Cross station about a month before she sadly passed away in '86, She gave me her autograph.
I remember seeing her in a wheelchair in the papers saying her cancer was terminal. I was shocked and felt sorry for her. . I will always remember her. I was 17 at the time and she died on my 18th birthday. Very sad and brave to think she knew she dying but did the interview and kept it quiet. God rest her soul.
That’s soo sad 😢. Incredible women !
Pat will always be remembered for her role as Elsie Tanner. She looks great here but she is breathless. she was a grand lady
She was fabulous….❤️
Pat Phoenix in Dynasty would have been truly something!
Lovely interview. I could listen to her all day, she's like my gran's friend. But bless Jamieson he keeps interrupting her. Interviewers that keep interrupting fail to allow the true essence of a star through. Love ya Pat. X
When he asks if she would ever go back to Coronation Street, she would have known then that she couldn't even if she wanted as she knew what was coming for her even then. Such a great talent :(
Just adore this lady!! She left Coronation Street before I was born but of all the characters past and present Elsie was just the greatest!!
What else did she do? 🤷♀️
Britain’s best , Mancunian Pat Phoenix, never forgotten.
Another one of our lovely people, when we really enjoyed our soaps and tele...Rest in peace lovely lady...xxx...
Such a tragedy great actress, taken too soon, watching this you would never know she was dying 😢
Smoking 60 cigarettes 🚬 a day took its toll
The true queen of Coronation Street ❤
She died later that year so sad... I was born in 1997 but I found old Corrie and fell in love with all the characters specially Elsie Ena Annie and Hilda
they were great characters. i loved Ivy too, her fights with Gail were brilliant.
A Coronation Street legend ! The great days when corrie was worth watching, unlike today.
Slightly mind-blowing to hear Pat Phoenix talk about EastEnders for some reason. Also, I hadn’t heard about this controversy over the Corrie 25th that is mentioned here
What controversy
@@carlaconnor8347 she wasnt invited.
God bless her xxx
What a queen! When she does the EastEnders accent at 1:30, she actually sounds really like Barbara Windsor! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Interesting charismatic Lady.
She died 3 months later after this interview she was a good actress
Also, according to various reports PP knew in March 1986 that she had lung cancer, apparently undergoing treatment over the summer. So she was quite ill by this point (not that you’d really know). I even wonder at 7:20 when her face momentarily falls that she realises this might be her last time before an audience
you''re quite right - it happens for a nano second but my gosh it is noticeable and very very sad ...now knowing what we know we can read right into her thoughts
I saw that too - she was a very brave lady. She kept it up except for that micro expression at the end. She died about 12 weeks later.
You are right. I guess she may have known at this point that the treatment was unlikely to work. Such a shame to lose such an interesting actress at an age when the world of character acting was about to open up. I could easily think of Pat being in one of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads monologues. So very sad.
@@brendonmcmorrow3886 Oh, she would have been utterly brilliant in any one of them! It's such a shame she never had the chance.
I noticed that too; all tits and teeth while she knew the cameras were still on her and then that momentary look of profound sadness. That in itself is testament to how showbiz she was. The show must always go on.
Aww. She doesn't look ill at all here 😭
The power of make up... U can tell by how she's taking more rapid breaths whilst talking, but only if you know she's I'll..
From what I can make out in her Wikipedia entry, she probably knew her condition was terminal when she did this interview, but hid it from everyone. At the very least she knew she had lung cancer.
wonderrful woman
She made reference to filming a second series of constant hot water but sadly her final illness prevented this
I think it could have been a hit comedy with another season
Hard to believe 10 weeks later she was dead!! She looks so well here
😲
Only 10 Weeks?
She died in the September no hint of illness here still looks robust and well
@@Lee-sv8su she looks tired and you can hear she’s raspy. However I only notice it because she passed away so soon after this.

That fly in her hair totally gate crashed this interview!
Do you have Pat's sit-com "Constant Hot Water"? Would love a look at that again - it's so sad that they planned a second series with new writers, etc and she never got the chance to film it.
Hi, no I don't have that sadly. I'd love to see it. Have only seen photographs of it. She would've had so many plans but was taken far too soon.
It wasn't as bad as the critics made out and I remember Pat proudly telling Terry Wogan they were getting more viewers than Dynasty!
After leaving Coronation Street, I don't think she got the TV roles that she deserved.
Where does Wogan come into it?
Pat phonix was else tanner even when she wasn't working
Who the guy interviewing her
Derek jameson
Good old Elsie Tanner, she did'nt need a Spanner😅, she picked em!!
The is a fly crawling in her hair lol
Yeah I noticed that
😂😂
It was a wig.
She doesn't look well here.
I wonder why her and Jean Alexander didn't like each other
@@glamdolly30 Thanks. I haven't read those autobiographies yet so I really should get them. I had read elsewhere that Barbara Knox isn't mentioned at all in Pat's.
Have you ever heard anything about a dislike between Margot Bryant and Violet Carson?
Jean thought she was unprofessional
they seemed like two very different people from interviews i've seen, Jean was a lot more reserved
Probably because Jean was boring bore and Pat looks like the life of the party
Jean Alexander was a lesbian.
She doesn't look ill here she looks terrible
You must be blind.
She looks marvellous
Wogan looks so different here interviewing Boy George
