Never been much into soaps. Eastenders is just plain depressing and unreal. However Coronation Street, in the past, was an exception. Watched it regularly in the days of Elsie. It had a magic then, which has long gone.
There’s actually a lot of talent within the Corrie ranks but nostalgia freaks like you would rather live in the past. The likes of Leanne and Carla are played by fantastic actresses.
@@carlaconnor8347 that's one version. You're partly correct. However it's nothing to do with nostalgia. Corrie in its original concept showed life in the North of England. It was an exciting, ground breaking series, that reduced the upper and middle class nonsense, that came before it. If you'd listened to Pat you'd have understood that. Today's actors in many aspects are just as good. However the storylines are not as believable. Or As strong.
What a wonderful lady she was. Just like all the old stars of that time, Jean Alexander, Noele Gordon - they were big big British stars. We should be very proud of them. Coronation Street is no longer the same today.
I love what Pat and Jean Alexander brought to the show so much that I stopped channel surfing and became glued to the show in university. I just started watching the youtube posted series starting at 1976. What a thrill to enjoy them all over again. Thelma Barlow just returned to film at 94 yrs of age to do a comedy. She’s so adorable.
I passed her in a Chinese restaurant in Bury St. Edmunds with her then husband Alan Browning. She'd appeared at the Theatre Royal. She was a classy lady!
Hello The first ever appearance of my string trio 'Humoreske' was on this episode if anyone has a copy! Please weve been trying to find someonz who has it for 35 years!!🙏🙏🙏
Very loving and caring lady; I remember her once saying when she was asked which way she was going to vote in a General Election (donkeys years ago) and she said Labour of course! She didn’t believe in those that came from not so well off backgrounds, and then all of a sudden became Tory because now they had money and so didn’t matter about others. She never forgot her roots.
40 years later it is still on. It contributes 100 million pounds an episode to the British economy in the ad break. Granada threatened to sell it to the BBC if they didn’t keep their franchise, when ITV were renewing them. ITV immediately backed down.
"I hope it will go on, it's become part of the British way of life" If only she knew. Every episode today a variety of wrong-doing and crime. They think they're filming the Sweeney every week. It's bloody awful. Everyday life? Far from it. The fun's all gone.
She died 17/9/86 aged 62. She was a pioneering icon of British television. Never to be forgotten.
Pat Phoenix. Elsie Tanner. There can be only one. A natural queen with earthy qualities. ❤
What a lovely lady Pat was
She's so comfortable and natural at interviews Pat comes across as a really sincere lady.
A fascinating interview with the much missed actress.
Pat Phoenix, Jean Alexander and the rest of them - including the writers - would be horrified if they saw the mess Coronation Street is now.
Well Said.
Aye it's crap no comedy anymore, It's all violence rape and murder, I miss the Duckworth's
@@emperorpalpatine783 Looking forward to it!
The toung is in a different cheek to what it used to be.
It will never be the same as it was.

One of those women who matured in to a very beautiful woman .
She's absolutely lovely. I could have had a giggle with her over a G&T or 3 any day. Thank you Pat and rest in power xxx
God love her. Weird to think that in 2022 I'm nearly 61... in fact older than Pat is here
God bless her beautiful soul..... maybe passed...but still alive thinking of her ❤
Absolutely one in a million
Such a lovely, genuine and honest lady x
What a lovely beautiful woman she was.
The new lot can't even come close to the likes of Pat Phoenix and Jean Alexander. They were true professionals.

Time they turfed wet Sal who was married to Kevin Webster out .
All the actors from 1990 onwards were all about who could shout the loudest!!!!
Got to love Patricia Phoenix! The best of best. She was the biggest legend there ever was in the programme. Wasn't she just gorgeous 💖 God bless her!
Easily in the top 5 legends with Ken, Ena, Annie and Hilda

One of my favourite female icons. A lady who loved champagne with her fish and chips😊
I love that story... last week I had fish and chips with Prosecco (not Champagne, sadly!) and thought of Pat.
LOVE that line "a lady who liked Champagne with her fish and chips"🎩
Pat was legend what a lady ! Sadly missed.

Lovely lady
What a lovely woman... So normal... So entertaining
Such a classy lady ❤️🌹
Sad to think she died just 2 years later. A fabulous actress and sadly missed.
More pat interviews please
10pm Pat Pheonix was a great actress and seemed a lovely lady
Good upload 👍
An absolutely icon of Corrie Elsie was Corrie ❤️ but we keep moving on
Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs! What a lovely lady ☺
Pat was fantastic as Elsie tanner loved her to bits so sad she passed to soon ❤
marvelous woman. Tony Blair was in awe of her
I remember being at school and the whispers going around about her passing.
Pat would be 100 now if she was alive. ❤
She was my fave in the street back then ,strong woman type.
Well she was right - 36 years on from this interview and the Street is still going.
It's still going...but hardly strongly. 5 episodes a week and ever-more bizarre storylines are killing it.
@@DIETRICHCICCONE true. It's not the show it was. I was an avid viewer for 30 years but I can't remember now the last time I watched it.
6 episodes is over kill and no quality. 2 episodes is best but they should’ve stopped at 4.
She was definitely ahead of her time!
If she only knew then that it's still running today because of her efforts as an actor....
Coronation Street has been shit for decades.
The best thing about Coronation Street is that it created these iconic women ❤
Great actress and author as though she is talking to you.very natural
She has a natural warmth which is very endearing. She was a very progressive woman too.

She's posher than I expected considering she's from Fallowfield!
Somebody will get arrested, might somebody will get divorced and remarried. She predicted Deirdre's future storylines 😂

Fantastic uploads as always! Have you got any Julie Goodyear interviews? 😁
A very frank interview but interesting about her life
40 years later it is still on. It contributes 100 million pounds an episode to the British economy in the ad break. Granada threatened to sell it to the BBC if they didn’t keep their franchise, when ITV were renewing them. ITV immediately backed down.
Terry is sure that in this instance you can’t tell the actress from the part - like the dancer from the dance
👍 !
Her leaving Corrie scenes are iconic
All those Roedean phrases lol
Sadly Terry Wogan is sadly no longer with us as well
Ii tv tv on
Could you remove the subtitles please

Surprised she couldn’t do an Irish accent
A decent woman
The White Tina Turner.
I miss proper chat shows like this. Nowadays it’s all about getting cheap laughs and puerile nonsense.
Yes, good old Corrie is now pathetic.
She was a heavy smoker, how the fuck do you smoke 60 a day Jesus 🤣
Smoked a lot 🚬
