Gas Prices are Truly the best in Texas and NM from my own travel experience. I love when you do these COST videos because you bring out so many different aspects. When I was driving around Germany and France the gas was around $12-13 a gallon and that was a few years ago, so yeah Mexico always seems a bit HIGH, but the value is THERE for the amazing places to see, especially in Central Mexico state of Puebla where the Archeological sites and huge, beautiful Churches are magnificent!
Baja is a completely different animal. Apart from the three most northern cities; Tijuana, Ensenada, Baja's population is only 340,000. The supply chain is very small and slow so prices and availability of produce, Mexican products, and imports are much higher. Mainland Mexico is much more affordable. I too am a boondocker and have boondocked in Mexico for over 20 years (live here full-time). Our weekly supermarket bill rarely runs over $50 US. Mainland we only use debit/credit for everything. If they don't accept cards we don't buy it, including fuel.

I'm solo FT in Canada and have dipped my toes for weekends in US. The biggest issue is $ exchange, otherwise no changes. Baja is on my bucket list so your video was so helpful. Thanks so much!
I would like to caution people about road hazards on the Baja Peninsula. I know of 2 people who have died on that road. Truckers think they own the road and think nothing of coming into the oncoming lane without looking to see if there is someone there first. I have been to the Baja many times, but the last time a large truck pulled out immediately in front of me. I had to choose between a head on collision and going off the road and down the embakement. Fortunately I didn't roll and there were no trees in the way. I won't drive in Mexico again.

That was a very interesting talk ... I don’t ever see myself going to Mexico as sometimes I get scared of my own shadow 🥺 and have heard too many horror stories on Mexico ... I am going to have to go back and watch your adventure to Mexico ... I was a solo backpacker before covid and found that app to be wonderful - especially in Asia. Much better than before Google existed when I used the little language guides put out by the Lonely Planet.

Wow the prices for paper goods are high in Baja..Here in Puebla paper towels are 3 rolls for 30 pesos and toilet paper for a 4 pack are 30 pesos also, I guess gas was your highest expense.was gasoline.
I'm remembering you talking about a water filter not too long ago, could you have used that in Baja? I just got a used rv in a little village on the Sea of Cortez and I was thinking of getting one for that.

I have 3 parrots (cockatiels) and two large dogs, a red nose pitbull and a German Shepard mix, We live full time in a class C also and I am vegan just like you too. I have been wondering how i could get passports for my 3 birds and 2 dogs to do this.

I thought about the Waggle, but I don't like Verizon, and I don't want to pay for a subscription either. I bought a Govee, a lot cheaper and the app works great. It doesn't require a subscription and it monitors the temp in my trailer, and the humidity. You can also set temp and humidity alerts, either using a range, either below that range or above, or set alerts for specific temp and humidity numbers.
Just for your info, your first ad tonight was for a McDonalds quarter- pounder with cheese…do you have control of them? Just wondered.

Thank you such a detailed breakdown!! Baja definitely sounds more pricey than the mainland and that makes sense. Fuel is for sure more costly throughout Mexico. I really think even Baja can be done for less. But I also realize your food choices make it more costly and that's fine, it's a choice. I do know that the mainland will have the extra fees for a lot of tolls. No road tolls in Baja? Either way, thanks for the breakdown. I hadn't really thought about refilling water for drinking and cooking. This will be an issue for me since I use two 5 gallon jugs that I just take out to fill. At least there are Purificado stations. Sounds like our water fill kiosks. At least I don't have the huge language barrier! It's also sad to me that fresh food markets run by the farmers themselves seem like a thing of the past for Mexico and that accounts for the poor produce selections. Wandering Individual Single rv group, WINS, has a Baja trip coming up this fall. It's a fun group.
