I think it's worth noting that a ship of Andromeda's size having a crew of 4,000 is completely reasonable, and even on the low side. A real life Nimitz carrier has more than 6,000 crew, and it's a fraction of the size of Andromeda.

Andromeda had significant, if not total, automation at its disposal so being able to operate with just a pilot if need be can be justified.

Except that a ship like a carrier doesn’t have nearly as much space taken up by hull and ship’s structure, and a surface ship can handle so many personnel because they aren’t in space for such long periods. Hot bunking in dorms wouldn’t work for long term space exploration. Space ships just have a lot more space taken up by equipment and hull structure, etc. That being said, I always thought that the crew numbers for Star Trek ships was low for their size. Although a lot of tech is automated, they would need more personnel to fix things when damaged and there still has to be a lot of things that need upkeep on such a craft. We never get to see the crew swabbing the decks and cleaning anything! Although one thing I liked about Discovery is that they showed the outer hull being repaired by drone bots (like astromechs in Star Wars). That’s something that just makes sense and you just know they would use something like that. But overall when I see a huge ship that only has 500 crew, I can’t help but think about carriers and their much larger crews in much smaller spaces too

    1) No energy shields in the Andromeda universe. Defense is accomplished with guns and missiles.
    2) The ship was not designed by humans. The Systems Commonwealth was in existence long before humans achieved spaceflight. Humans were something of a junior partner.
    3) 40 Nova bombs, that can cause a star to go nova, and wipe out an entire solar system
    4) The Systems Commonwealth spans three galaxies, and the Andromeda can easily travel those distances.
    5) The Andromeda is truly ascendant, it has a self aware intelligent A.I., with an avatar, and a personality.

    • @FakeJeep

Ya there is no shielding like in the Trek universe. The ship's design is to mitigate damage from missiles or stop them altogether. The fins/blades that deploy from the forward pylons have nets/lines connected to them to block/destroy missiles and the hull is designed to crush in much like a modern car versus heavy armor plating. That combined with nanobots that routinely repair and maintain the hull.
The ship was very thought out in its design.

IIRC Gene Roddenberry's original idea for Andromeda was to be set in a post-apocalyptic Earth. It would have a single hero, who had been in some sort of stasis during the apocalypse, and woke up after, traveling to trouble spots all over the world using some sort of high tech rail system that extended all over the world. That explains why the slipstream looks and feels like a roller coaster.

The core of the ship was substantially larger than the Enterprise D/E class. In addition to having a comparable crew, a Glorious Heritage heavy cruiser also carried 4,000 troops (Lancers)for ground assault. The core also carried large missile magazines as well as refining facilities allowing it to build its own ordnance from asteroids & stellar debris.

I always had mixed feelings about Andromeda. I liked that the ship was so different from any other sci-fi ship even if I never really loved the ship itself. The show always suffered from what I like to call Tribune Syndrome after the production company which made Andromeda and several other sci-fi shows in those days. Basically Tribune Entertainment would take an unproduced script by a known writer like Gene Roddenberry and loosely adapt it into a show. Usually it would be an interesting but flawed show and then they reboot it every season usually making it more and more unwatchable. I know that it sounds like I really hated this show but really I didn't. I liked the first 3 seasons and really enjoyed the characters, particularly Rommie the ship's avatar. It's just that I feel that this is one of those shows that could have been a lot better but never really lived up to their full potential.

as I understood it Andromida was not even an unprodeced script, from what I remember of the DVD extras it was a series of ideas of Genes' put together into a show by (if I remember correctly) Robert Wolf
Gene's notes included ideas for a show set after the fall of a great empire, the names Andromeda and Dillan Hunt, and a lot of other little elements that ended up in the show but it was not a complete idea, more a combination of lots of seporate ideas which ended up being molded into the show

    • @warellis

Andromeda suffered from the fact Robert Wolfe, the show's lead writer, got forced off by Kevin Sorbo.
This of course threw the entire story plot that had been set up out of whack.

The ship did have windows. There were a few episodes where they turned off the internal lights and you could see the lights on the hull go off. Sometime in season 3 or 4 IIRC.
In one episode the pod above the main body, is where drones launched from.
Slipstream was created by the Vedrans, the founders of the Commonwealth.
They also didn't have Energy Shields like other sci-fi universes, so it did have thick armor plating.
The Commonwealth is similar to the Federation, they aren't the military, they are the government. The High Guard are the military branch of the Commonwealth which then splits into two different branches itself. Lancers which are marines, foot soliders, and Argosy Special Operations, which is their covert operation's and what most of their ship captains and admirals seem to stem from.
19:20 the thing on the back is where they eject the slipstream core IIRC. The slipfighters launch from he rounded points at the end of the arms on the pylons where the slipstream runners are. Larger ships like the Eureka Maru dock in the hangars on either side of the main body

Ive always loved the andromeda. The lore for the series was amazing.
Interesting note about the sliprunners, the hooks, they aren’t aren’t actual hooks so much as they are bumpers. The strings in slipspace are basically lines of quantum gravity. The denser they are packed the harder it is to navigate as you might bounce off one, hook onto another. Actual training isn’t needed for slipnav, it’s actually mostly instinct. Having no knowledge except for destination, you have a 50.5% ISD’s of guessing the correct path. Of course not all celestiala bodies interact via quantum gravity so you sometimes have to bounce from system to system until you find a path to where you are going. “Slipstream isn’t the best way to travel faster than light, it’s just the only way” being a high guard joke.
As for defenses, the andromeda has basically just her armor and maneuverability. She basically nullifies her own mass in flight then uses antiproton explosions as thruster, she’s as maneuverable as a star fighter and fast as hell.
Beyond being mauverable and armored, she has her battle blades, they extend from the struts and form a rib cage around the core. Beyond these ribs the area between the struts is filled with nano wires made of super sci-fi materials. Missiles and such hit said wires and detonate away from the hull itself. Repair drones restring them constantly, even in battle as the drones are held via gravity beams as to remain relative to the ship itself.
The main energy weapons are basically the same as the thrusters, A channeled AP reaction, only in the weapons case they project a few particles on a laser. All the AP tanks are stored in the struts as are the AP cannons and thrusters. The body however holds the ELS tubes and slipcore.
The ELS tubes are fascinating weapons. They are basically railguns that fire a missile made of maneuvering thrusters, a rock (1kg) was remote receivers. The missiles are launched at relativistic speed thus allowing a 1kg metal ball to deliver hundreds of kilotons of energy on impact. They can also launch variations with their own engine. It’s also worth noting the tiny nature of the missiles is why they can pack on so many. The missiles are rapid firing, all twohundred tubes can be fired at a rate similar to a modern SMG, allowing tens of thousands of projectiles to be fired under a minute.
The sad part is the crew is largely ancillary. The ship board AI is fully sentient and can easily control the entire ship. In one episode she mapped the surface of a black hole, somehow, in real-time as it shifted and did what it does. It only took 40% of her processing power, running the ship takes barely any. The real thing that eats up her attention is those fighters do not require pilots (though they can be piloted).
The fighter bay is tiny, located in the lower hull. the fighters launch via enlarged ELS tubes like a bag viper, though thr launch system is smaller. Fighters are on an auto loader system, basically by the time the first exits the tube the fifth is entering.

One of the unusual factors of slipstream is that it can only be entered or exited when near the gravity well of a star system.
This means the ship can travel massive distances but only exit when near are a star system.
So most of the (mostly) empty space between solar systems is unexplored and difficult to reach.

I was about to write a similar response but I couldn't remember the species.
The only thing I'd add to that is that the Vedrens weren't worshiped as Gods, but they were practically treated as Gods. As a general rule, only Vedrens ran the Commonwealth at its core. Worlds of the Commonwealth had their own internal governments, but they were often influenced HEAVILY on the Comonwealth.
The Commonwealth has also been in service SO LONG, it puts the Galactic Republic's history to shame. I don't remember the exact figure, but I seem to recall "Tens of Thousands of years".
As for the show; Season 1 was Fantastic, Season 2 was pretty good, Season 3 spent a lot of time trying to figure out their direction since they burnt through all Gene's material, Season 4 ended with a WTF?, Season 5 was a trainwreck.
Its a series that had so much awesome potential but never got into that awesome stage. I very much suggest going into the series understanding it'll be great at first but expect to be disappointed at the end.

    • @gwacenter

Very true Conner. The last season was just bizarre. They could have rapped in season 4 and been better off. IIRC the Vedrans created an empire across several galaxies. Eventually, like the British Empire, they released all the vassal worlds to self government and formed a "commonwealth." Their military force (the High Guard) patrols their territory in ships like the Andromeda maintaining the peace and security of the alliance. The Earth is certainly NOT the center of the series nor is the human species. In fact Earth is a Nietchian slave world at the time of the series. The Nietchians (sp?) being a genetically modified human sub species. Humans had branched out and scattered to many colonies and other worlds. I think Andromeda is set about 3000 years in the future. Captain Hunt's mother was a genetically modified "heavy gravity worlder." So called "normal" humans are referred to by the Nietchians as "kluge." Hunt himself grew up on the home world of the Commonwealth, Tarn Vedra.

Overall, I felt really bad for both E:FC and Andromeda. Both series started out FANTASTIC but both ended with very, very bizzaire endings.
Considering how/when both series started, I often wonder if they wouldn't have planned some sort of crossover if it wouldn't have made both series a lot more interesting.
With how they utilized Earth in Andromeda, they could have just as easily never touched it until a potential cross over.

Being explicitly a military ship built by a grand galactic empire with amazing resources and technology, I imagine the crew quartering is probably more like an actual military ship instead of the Federation's standard of huge spaceous suites for everyone.

Im really glad you did Andromeda. its one of my favourite shows bizarrely even though it had a poor reception. a few things to consider though - it wasnt human designed. the commonwealth was founded by the Vedrans and humanity are just a part of the commonwealth. might explain why its less humany than other shows. also as we see in the show. you dont need alot of space for the slip fighters since they can be remotely piloted so in theory all you need is a storage gantry with access for maintenance crews. Regarding crew compliment. it would be tightly packed but it is a military ship so sharing bunks is quite common if not expected i would imagine. plus many of those weapons are manned as turrets. atleast in the beginning of the show before Rommy takes over most of the ship functions. that said. i hope you guys had a great new year and xmas - thanks for the many hours of entertainment :) keep up the good work!

The fighter bays and shuttle bays are in the wing struts where the primary hull connects to the slipstream arms.
At time index 25:35 you can see the right hand bays of the ship.
The arms also double as shielding when a Glorious Heritage class goes into combat "fan" like armour plating extends out of the forward sturts backwards to provided more portection to the Main hull.
The pod on the top is the drone bay.
As for windows, there are observation decks above the hangers allowing for recreational viewing. But as a militery vessel coprimising the ships main hull with windows provides a vunrability to the survivability, If you look at morden day warships you dont see windows other than on the bridge. windows on a war ship is just asking for trouble.

Enterprise-H The Andromeda was more of a fleet in a ship. Where as the Galaxy Class was meant to work with a fleet in a large battle. The Andromeda was meant to be able to work independant of the fleet. Hence the use of such a large enemy fleet and sabotage in the first episode. She was just too dangerous to fight otherwise. There was a troop transport, similar to it, being used as a private prison in one episode. It was smaller.

He is engaged in ground combat. It may not be called "infantry" as there are not military combat arms in Starfleet but he is an infantryman as he is conduction ground combat operations.
So while not a military organization primarily and the main concern is exploration while doing defensive operations Starfleet does have the training and means to conduct offensive combat operations not only defensive .

It's important to take into account just how massive these ships are when considering crew and craft compliment. A Nimitz carrier holds 5000 people and 90 aircraft in it's 330m length. The Andromeda is 1300m long and probably has in the region of 80 times the internal volume.

I agree. I was on a carrier in the '80s. My berthing compartment alone had about 300 bunks. 6000 people on a ship this size wouldn't even be close to crowded. Compared to 20th century naval vessels all these big science fiction ships are relatively sparsely crewed.

When it comes to the crew, the ship didn't just hold gunners, engineers, pilots, scientists, medics and other crew but also ground soldiers, also the ship worked in an ambassador role, it's a jack of all trades sort of ship.
Also you left out nova bombs (weapons that blow up stars) in its weapons, which can also be carried by fighters.
As for shields, they don't seem to have them and rely on point defenses, turrets and fighters and it's armour is strong enough to take direct hits from black holes being fired at it.
Also there are windows on the ship, not many but a few sets do have windows, mainly relaxation areas, with combat areas not having them and relying on sensors.
Also the ship isn't just a ship, it's an AI and can be fully automated and doesn't actually require a organic crew to function.

Another more realistic quality of the Andromeda-universe is one of Captain Foley's favorite topics, and that of bridge placement. Instead of being on Deck1 of a Federation ship where it's easily targeted, the ships' Command is deep within the hull surrounded by point defenses, armor, and other defenses.
Internal point defenses in the corridor make the command center very difficult to assault from external or internal enemies.

I've always thought that Federation Ships should be bigger. I'll agree that they've always seemed kind of small. Think about an Aircraft Carrier. Displacement: 101,400 long tons (113,600 short tons)[1]
    Length:
    Overall: 1,092 feet (332.8 m)
    Waterline: 1,040 feet (317.0 m)
    Beam:
    Overall: 252 ft (76.8 m)
    Waterline: 134 ft (40.8 m)
    Draft:
    Maximum navigational: 37 feet (11.3 m)
    Limit: 41 feet (12.5 m)
    Propulsion:
    2 × Westinghouse A4W nuclear reactors
    4 × steam turbines
    4 × shafts
    260,000 shp (194 MW)
    Speed: 30+ knots (56+ km/h; 35+ mph)
    Range: Unlimited distance; 20-25 years
    Complement:
    Ship's company: 3,200
    Air wing: 2,480
With the Starship Enterprise being 200meters, and the D being 800meters, it makes an aircraft carrier more tightly packed.

Think of the missile rubes as our current submarine torpedo tubes. With doors that slide open when ready to fire and closed when not in use. Even the point defense weapons rise out of the hull.
The top part that you assumed was a shuttle bay was in fact the bays for the unmanned drones. The actual hangers are facing forward in the arms that connect the ship to the slipstream runners.
It does have windows, but very few. These are located on observation decks.
The bridge, which they refer to as the Command Deck is located centrally within the main body to provide decent protection.
4000 crew makes sense if they are run on a four shift rotation. Like the Enterprise was during the two part episode Chain of command. When Captain Jericho temporarily took command.

22:00 Adding a note here that a good portion of the crew (approximately 10%) are Lancers, i.e. the Commonwealth marines. Their primary duty would be ground deployment and maintaining the planetary warfare tech. A fair number (probably not much more than 100) would be on consular duties, handling diplomatic entanglements with the domestics or foreign governments like the Pyrians when their need as support staff arises, and handling things like the courier ships, as the only way to send data FTL is to physically send scouts out to personally deliver the messages and back, and those people wouldn't be on the ship for weeks at a time.
And a Glorious Heritage would have a higher-than-expected medical staff as responding to disasters was what the ships would have designed to do as a primary function, as they were designed during the thousand year peace (and you can't expect 3-4 doctors to be proficient enough with the dozens of species present on the crew, let alone in the Commonwealth, each would need specialization).
Add in flight crews for all those vehicles and the actual crew manning "the ship" is smaller than it looks. A modern aircraft carrier has some odd 5500 people, after all.

Interesting thing about the Andromeda is that it's not actually a human ship. An alien race called the Vederans are the founders and leaders of the Commonwealth. Humans are a recent member of the Commonwealth but highly prolific. The majority of the crew on the Andromeda were human, with a mix of aliens and genetically altered humans. On the show Seamus Harper the engineer is the only fully human main character. Everyone else is either genetically engineered or an alien.

I personally thought that Andromeda got worse as time went on, it started off great but started losing it halfway through S2 when they switched out the purple girl (forgot her name). They rebuilt the Commonwealth a bit too fast and started to quickly ignore all of the rules of the universe that they established early on like no FTL comms.
One other thing, I think the word you're looking to describe many of these ships is warships or capital ships, not battleship. A battleship is a specific type of warship, one armed with large guns and heavy armor designed to take on other warships as well perform shore bombardment. While all battleships are warships not all warships are battleships, smaller ships like battlecruisers, cruisers, destroyers, and frigates are also warships but they are not battleships.
I'd also like to add that battlecruiser is an often overused and most likely misunderstood term thrown around a lot in sci-fi. Historically, a battlecruiser was a warships that was armed with battleships caliber guns (10 inches or larger) but had cruiser level armor. The idea behind them was to have a (relatively) fast warship that carried heavy armament, it would outfight anything more lightly armed and armored than it, and if it ran into anything that outgunned it it had the speed to outrun it. At least that was the theory but the reality was often different and they were eventually replaced by fast battleships. So, what most sci-fi franchises call battlecruisers are probably really only a cruiser or maybe a heavy cruiser but are called battlecruisers because they thing it just sounds cooler without understanding what a battlecruiser actually is.

Battlecruisers were meant to go off and hunt other cruisers alone or in pairs, as well as anti commerce raiding. But then the British and Germans though it would be a good idea to incorporate them into the battle line, thin armor resulted in the destruction of 4 Battle cruisers due to massive internal explosions.

You can got into the other parts. You see Harper go into them when he's fixing stuff, crawling ( smaller) or walking through ( larger) conduits. The ship uses androids and robotics and nanobots for repair too guided by the AI and engineer so a lot of space you don't need to be able to get into easily BUT this ship also , besides the Hangar has massive cargo bays and cargo lockers and extra space. They could move sensitive items for the govt or miltary or do relief/ emergency work moving med supplies, food or people. They could support Lancer divisions logistically planet side. ( they have the planetary assault robots too!) They were made to explore ( they are a starship) and have the robustness/ endurance to do first contacts or to do anything the government/ military needed them to do. So they have a lot of space and ability. Three other things to note 1.) The ship can scoop via those fins and other methods, stuff from space. Again it also has it's drones to do this...what I'm saying is it can gather raw materials for both power source and for the Nanobots and AI to manufacture weaponry and other stuff. So shape has that function 2.) the shape has something to do with that and solving it's sensor array system ...having a wide spread to "hear" and dock it's drones on the outer parts. 3. It's space the automatons stash stuff in...cargo. One last functional thing...they lockers for the 40 nova bombs...they are shielded but they are also still kept in spaces farther from the normal areas because of radiation in case systems fail. Just some thoughts to this functional art of a ship. I am ADD and didn't listen to this all maybe you covered this

I liked about the FTL concepts they created for the show. It was called quantum slipstream, which was basically like hyperspace, except they imported an interpretation of the "observer effect" in real life quantum mechanics.
In quantum mechanics, wave-particle duality and the Heisenberg Indeterminancy Principle states that a wave/particle does not an absolute position until it is measured or observed. Some have taken a LOOSE interpretation of the word "observed" to mean that it is a human's conscious observation that *causes the particle to have a definite position. In the real world, scientific consensus says "no you're not understanding it at all," but in the context of fiction, it's awesome.
So on Andromeda, slipstream can only be navigated by organic brains. AI ships like the Andromeda Ascendant can't do it on her own. Some pilots are better at traversing the slipstream because their intentions cause the desired effect of directing the ship toward the slipstream destination.
On the other hand, they have other weird concept that really go off the deep end like stars are living conscious dimension hopping deities, but the slipstream one was pretty well thought out.

I agree with Andrew Probert as I've been thinking about this especially since I got thinking about Captain Jellico putting the crew on 4 shifts. I crunched some numbers and you soon realise that some departments don't even have enough staff for 2 shift - except with stand in Jnr Lt who are cross trained and if there is things like multiple pilots and engineering crew you'd need to ditch the families and have crew of about 4 thousand to be able to run additional multiple shifts like that if the D was on a war footing - I think that is what they'd have to do - ditch some of the dead weight science staff and all the families and bring on at least 700 to 1000 additional crew and perhaps a few hundred marines too. otherwise they'd have to throw a ludicrous amount of automation at the ship and hope they didn't suffer major complex damage that a drone can't handle.
I think the D does have some repairs automated though like hull plating replacement for example.
But you just think of the complex thing you'd need to do to repair a serious hull breach (like after the Borg cutting beam) it would drive the engineering team to distraction if there is at most what 100 of them on 3 shifts means only 30 are on duty at one time. any serious problem or casualties they'd be in a lot of problems fast.

I think the tech (G.F.G lense) in andromeda is used to "reduce" the ships mass in a similar way to way to Mass Effect's mass effect. That lets it pull off the various flips and what not. I'm assuming that GFG lenses are super expensive so it's too expensive to use to upgrade smaller weapons but the do use the GFG lense to "increase" the mass of enemy ships
I can see what you mean though about sci-fi tech. sci-fi often has the issue of becoming too powerful. Like take the next gen films they are sooooo advanced that to keep things interesting the next series a prequel.

It carries 2 full infantry regiments and 1 full regiment of forcelance troops. Think of a US Navy Battleship and how those quarters were designed. With that said only the Captain and the XO actually have fully decked quarters with showers living room and bedroom. Though she carries 140 slip fighters under full emergency battle she can bring as much as 400 fighters and 200 troop transports. If you actually watched the show the Andromeda's full capabilities are explained in the first season.

Large crew sizes are required to both man everything and provide backup crew for damage control and such, so it surprises me they wouldn't expect this.
Also, it kind of surprises me they wouldn't be looking at the wiki or SaveAndromeda site regarding information to look up stuff on the Andromeda.
Also, yeah prior to Kevin Sorbo throwing out the lead writer, the ship only had 40 ELS launchers, later upped to 60 launchers.

The Andromeda Ascendant didn't have super thick armor (most episodes anyways, the writers were practically schizophrenic). Quite the opposite, in fact. It had a very thin layer of some kind of carbon material. There's a good reason for this.
The primary weapons in Andromeda are point-defense lasers and kinetic missiles. The missiles reach speeds of .9 to .95c. Because the kinetic missiles are moving at such extreme speeds, you actually want less armor. That way, the kinetic missiles punch through and do relatively little damage, having expended almost no energy. If the ship had thick armor, the missiles would release most of their energy on impact, potentially even bouncing around inside the ship afterwards. At those speeds, if the missile were allowed to release all that energy, it would be devastating.

Love the Andromeda ship as well as the show. Loved the first 4 seasons with a passion. Can't comment on the final season as I've never seen it. I've been meaning to rewatch the show from beginning to end, but so far haven't done it yet. What I can say is that I really loved the first season - it's what got me into the show and I thought it was great.

There are definitely some windows, but I don't think there's many. I remember a couple episides with Tyr or Rev Bem looking out into the stars from what I assumed was a lounge or observation deck.

You didn't seem to look at the "battle blades." If member serves me correctly all the weapons are deployed when fighting and not visible normally.

The pylons [had stripsteam runners - 1 episode where they got stuck "on"], Shape seems determined by forming the slipstream envelople - also various PDL [point defence lasers], as well as buckycables - 1 episode I think in season 1 where they hide in a suns' corona and use the buckycables to bleed off heat

The Andromeda technically never had shields Per Se. Its defensive systems were a combination of missiles, Point defence lasers and the "AG field" which relied on artificial gravity to slow incoming projectiles. It's a shame the Model doesn't show the battle blades extended.
Also the shuttle bays are in the Grill like areas immediately adjacent to the main hull.

It's called slipstream. I always imagined the J having a lot of tech similar to Andromeda. Especially with a sentient AI which I would call Lizzie.

You should've reviewed the much nicer looking Andromeda (from Space Battleship Yamato).

As stated in the show if the cargo decks are cleared out the ship Andromeda can carry 10,000 alones in the cargo holds . It's crew is very large troopers are spoken of in the show I think it was 5,000 then they have a regular crew for ship function like fighter craft if I remember in the series Dylan said full compliment was was 100 slip fighters

You should of got a picture with the Battle Blades out, they look cool and help defend the ship form attacks. Also this ship has PDL point defense lasers to pick off incoming attacks. This is one of my favorite ship and would smoke any star trek ship, IMO

With no shields and the only defense being armor and PDL's I wouldn't want windows, Andromeda may seal off bulkheads but that takes time. When you say 5000 crew is that including the lancer regiment because they aren't ship crew but ground forces.

The Andromeda Ascendant (Registry Designation: Shining Path to Truth and Knowledge Artificial Intelligence model GRA 112, serial number XMC-10-284) was a warship of both the Systems Commonwealth and the New Systems Commonwealth, and one of the last surviving Glorious Heritage Class ships after the First Systems Commonwealth Civil War and the Long Night of the Commonwealth. Regarded as one of the most powerful ships in the known galaxies, she is one of the most recognizable ships, achieving a near mythic status. ("A Heart for Falsehood Framed")

the andromeda is Glorious Heritage Class heavy cruiser it was designed as both a heavy cruiser and to allow for the rapid deployment of soldiers and other needed things to the place needed to control the area until the rest of the fleet could arrive

That's something you didn't mention in your review. Andrmeda has both slip fighters, which have FTL, and various drones for combat, scouts and for recon. She had an advance AI and an android which could control the ship. Along with anti aircraft (spaceship) and ant-missile defenses and it was able to deploy Lancers in drop pods and shuttle craft along with the two HUGE well armoured, and armed, mechs seen only in 3 episodes. Once the "Battle Blades" were deployed (a physical shield?) it could take a beating. Andromeda was a combination of battleship, carrier, troop transport and science vessel. Must have been a human design. lol Oh, Nova bombs are solar system destroying weapons and she had 40 of them. Too bad she didn't use them at Whichhead. lol
