The deadlock version is actually the mk1 version of the jupiter class. In the middle of the war they refitted the jupiter into the jupiter mk2. The added both the two pylon setup and a lot of guns, the galactica actually had guns on top of the front section. These guns were taken of when the ship retired.

18:00 the launch tubes are one Deck Down from The Landing Bay. When they land on the deck they are lowered on a platform elevator to be maintained or refueled and then turned 90 degrees and then launched out the side through tubes.

Love BSG. The scale of Galatica compared to most Trek ships is insane. Wish I had the link to the cross section but her Tylium tank (fuel tank) alone is over 600m in length and almost the volume of a Galaxy class starship. With a crew of over 5000 she was able to operate independently, without re-supply for 5 years. Can you imagine the storage room require for food, water, medicine, ammunition, spare parts, general supplies - clothing, toiletries etc for 5000 + individuals and 200+ fighters. Then there's her big guns! Can you imagine the calibre of the rounds fired from those bad boys! Also the insane number of rounds used to maintain that defensive flak screen??!! I recon she would need 10's of millions of rounds in reserve and go through a few million easily, even in a short engagement. Space warfare with realistic technology... the mind boggles

The Galactica from Deadlock game DOES have moving flight pods. When the ship jumps in, if you look close you will see the flight pods slide outwards into launch position. And while it does have lots of armor plating covering the whole ship, the oddity of the 1st Cylon war Galactica is that the ship has 3 support arms for the flight pods instead of 2 like it ultimately does. However, the game has an addon mission pack that adds the modified Galactica that has the refit with only 2 arms and less armor.

There is a comic book of four issues named Battlestar Galactica vs Battlestar Galactica, from Dynamite Comics, when the Two Galactica clashes by wormhole, and of course, their respective crew mix against a mix of villains of both universes (like Doctor Baltar with Count Baltar).

The very late 70s, when large scale model building probably hit its zenith. The same guys that made the ships for Star Wars, I think realism actually hit a high point there. (Just too many reused shots.)
But the one from the original is kind of like the refit Enterprise, there will be newer versions made after but they'll never will match the *detail and grandeur of the incredible ship in the 1978 version* .
The CGI version doesn't even have windows for scale!

The Galactica at launch does posses a third, central anchoring arm for the flight pods. This is what gave the Battlestar the reinforcement required to make jumps without the laborious, time consuming retraction/extention manuever. A crirtical capability to have when jumping into a combat theater and able to instantly engage in combat and viper launch. The removal of that anchoring arm in peace time is what eliminated that ability and thus slowed down considerably the Galactica's response time - likely as part of an administration's call to step down the Colonial Fleet's war time posture - and in so doing physically demoted the Galactica form a prime combat vessel to a patrol vessel. But the the interior space the third arm's removal opened up also afforded the Galactica, in her retirement, to be outfitted with the most expansive gift shop in the entire 12 Colonies.

James Nicholson I respectfully disagree. In Q Who the D’s photons did nothing when the borg were pursuing them at the end of the episode. They adapted to the torpedoes. One Borg cube destroyed 39 starships at Wolf 359. One Borg cube decimated Starfleet’s “enhanced” fleet in First Contact. The cylons have numbers and kinetic weapons, yes. However, they don’t have shields. The Borg could respond with a fleet as well. Cubes, tactical cubes, spheres, probes. It’ll be inevitable for assimilated raiders and heavy raiders to show up. IRT the BSG raptor, the borg will tractor it and beam a drone in or hit it with a cutting beam before they knew it.

    • @jamesnicholson3658
      @jamesnicholson3658 5 років тому

@@smnash82 the borg would beam the cylons aboard in an attempt to assimilate them, every time they do this i am betting the cylons would choose to self destruct themselves in the case of the centurions anyway, probably by strapping nukes to themselves before a borg attack, also the Colonial raptor has a jump drive capable of pinpoint jumps as we have seen in BSG, as do the cylons who's tech is quoted as being superior to Colonial tech, get a nuke in close behind the shields with a close FTL jump and boom, bye bye borg, the EMP will deal with them. On another note, even with a Borg victory I believe that given the 160 thousand year gap in tech the Cylons and Colonials would perform admirably, perhaps even performing a many year guerella war utillising FTL technology to jump in where the Borg least expect it

RDM's Galactica reboot is how you reimagine something from an older era, remaining true to the original whilst updating the visuals for a new audience. STD, as you clearly alluded to, should not only take note of how to reimagine things, but if CBS had the slightest sense, they'd hire Moore as the showrunner. As for the show itself, it still ranks for me as the best Sci Fi of the millennium.

The Deadlock version of galactica does retract its pods. Its just that the angle of the shot hides the gaps. By the way, there is another Battlestar class in the game that Foley might like more, the Artemis class, which is more or less the 70s Battlestar Galactica design.
As for the rest, there are TOS Vipers, Raiders and Basestars.

  • @saiyansomething73

I think the reason that the re-designs of the original BSG ships are so fundamentally similar is that , much like Christopher Nolan wanted to make a "realistic" Batman, Ronald Moore wanted to give the series and therefore the ships a more realistic feel while keeping them recognizable. Also on a an unrelated note, I liked the interesting juxtaposition between the super high-tech of an ftl drive with the current tech of using ballistic weapons and pressure suits actual military forces use. As if their civilization had made a giant leap forward in propulsion while other scientific advances moved at a more evolutionary rate. Or was it a gift of the Lords of Colbol?

Shortly after the release of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica model, moebius models released the model of the original 1978 version of the Galactica. Shortly after that, the reimagined Battlestar Pegasus model was released. The three models where to comparable scale to each other. It was rejected by people I knew who were fans of the original. I had seen the original when I was really young, but it was never show in reruns when I was growing up. So I never built a loyal bond to it like I did with Star Trek.
That made it really easy to get into the 2004 version, because I had no real way compare it to the original.

I think the pods need a better attachment design to the main hull. The connecting spars link to the top of the pods, above the flight deck. It must be a pain in the ass to walk from the pod to anywhere in the main hull let alone move cargo or ships between pods. TOS had a transport vehicle (idk, a cart) that took the pilots from the main hull to the flight pods, is there anything like that in the reimagined series? A much better location for the connecting spar would be at the hanger deck level, running horizontally into the main hull, and connecting to the opposite pod in one straight shot. Pretty sure the TOS battlestars had this.

Can you guys give us more ship details in the future, Other than showing us different models of the ship it would have been nice to know how many guns she had in each version and how many spacecraft she could carry, things like that would really help, also when comparing to Pegasus for example, does the fact that she has twice the engines give her twice the speed of Galactica or are they more for pushing a larger heavier ship and for redundancy in case some are knocked out in battle, Another thing I always wondered about was this, we know that in this show they have no shields just armor and in the beginning of the show the Galactica takes a nuke hit and survives, Is their any information on the armor they use because its pretty damn impressive stuff.

What is the purpose of launch tubes in space? It isn’t to generate lift for atmospheric flight like our carriers do now. It must be to accelerate the fighters towards the enemy, to give the ship delta-v and to save fuel for later maneuvering. The battlestar should always then orient itself so the launch tubes face the desired direction the fighters need to go. It is counter productive to accelerate the fighters in the wrong direction, that would only waste fuel (and time).

The issues with BSG vs a Borg cube as i see them are: 1: does the Galactica have any tech that the Borg would see as superior and worth assimilating , Possibly the jump drive, 2: what does the Galactica have that can hurt the cube, The flak guns should be able to because the Borg have trouble adapting to physical attacks, 3: Have the Borg been attacked by Nuclear weapons previously, i would bet yes and already have adapted to survive them.

The original Galactica aired in the late 70s and not the 60s as Glen Larson was inspired by the release of Star Wars. And Stewart is correct that the Vipers do launch from the flight pods. The Raptors and Colonial One (Roslin's presidential ship) launch and land on the flight deck due to their size while the hangar deck and broadside Viper launch tubes are located beneath the flight deck. And again Stewart is correct that the Galactica's pods do retract for her to jump. Something that the Pegasus doesn't have to do. I always thought that it was one of the nicer cues that the Mercury class was more advanced and therefore the issue that required the retraction of the flight pods for jump was overcome between the two designs.

5 minutes into the video the idea that the fully armored ship can't retract the two flight pods is untrue. If you play the Deadlock game, which that model is from, when the ship jumps in at the start of a fight, then first thing that ship model does is extend out the flight pods at the start of turn 1. The major change that was missed is that the Deadlock Jupiter class ship has 3 support arms per flight pod, while the TV show version has only 2. The deadlock game just adds another one at the middle, and higher up, but still functional. Presumably that third arm was removed from the ship at some point between the the Cylon war and the apocalypse, along with half the armor plates.

Also means the Borg can just beam in and start assimilating the Humanform cylons and even the hybrids. Once the Hybrid is assimilated the Borg have all the intel they need on the Basestars systems and might just find a way to shut of those lobotomized Raiders. They would loose a lot of drones because of the centurions though, wouldn´t be an easy win.

Regarding launching fighter from the landing bays, they definitely could, just not quite as quickly and efficiently as from the launch tubes. For one thing, there's no reason why they couldn't launch fighters from the back as well as the front. Secondly, you're forgetting that they're in space where there's no gravity, so you could easily line up VIpers vertically as well as horizontally, allowing you to launch several more Vipers.
Btw, you guys should really either turn off your or place your phones elsewhere while recording. It's kind of annoying hearing your hear phones vibrate as you're receiving notifications. If you're expecting an important call/text/e-mail I can understand but in that case you should turn off the vibrate function as well muting the ringer and just keep out of view of the camera but where you can still see it.

    • @PsychoStreak
      @PsychoStreak 5 років тому +2

I think it'd be the other way around. Once the Borg assimilated a Cylon, they've a link to their resurrection ships and possibly their entire network. Imagine a 'skin job' drone infiltrating a civilization the Borg couldn't defeat in combat, learning their tech from the inside, all while connected to the Collective. They could go straight to assimilating, or just get the information they want and not waste resources on an invasion.

Due to their primitive nature the Borg would just ignore them, however should the cylons attack a cube they are screwed.

An to think that we may never had this series if RDM’s vision for what Voyager was supposed to be wasn’t squashed.
Cause I remember him saying at some point that he wanted The USS voyager to be a older ship lost in the delta quadrant an have its appearance change thru the show because battle damage could be repaired as easily an modification would be made to keep voyager running. He said he wanted it so when voyagers returned to earth it would be a used up beaten to hell junker.
But that didn’t happen so bam Galactica

The Borg Cube is out of scale.
A cube has an internal volume of 28 cubic kilometers, that means that the vessel is approximately 3.04 kilometers on a side.
Also not a fan of that particular attempt at cross-universe combat, BSG is way outside of her weight class against anything Trek. I'd recommend sending her up against something more her weight like an Earth Alliance _Omega_ class Destroyer or an Imperial Star Destroyer.

    • @SGUDistantHope

Ah yes! darn! thats the Voyager borg cube scale..which were smaller than the TNG one, i used the default 3D model when i should have used my TNG alternate scale version as its the same for TNG and First contact!

Wars weapons maybe, but Trek weapons are another story since those are variable yield. We do get solid figures on Trek Weapons. In ENT the phase cannons were initially rated for 500 gigajoules but were modified to fire 10 times that which equates to about 1.1 kilotons of TNT and were still considered low power particle beams by other powers.
TNG we get shots like _Masks_ which I calculated out. Using conservative estimates, at what is explicitly stated as 10% phaser power the _Enterprise_ D was able to vaporize a comet made of mostly ice surrounding a structure that is significantly larger than the _Galaxy_ class in 1-2 seconds. Overestimating the volume of the structure relative to the comet and you get over 254 megatons of TNT in 1-2 seconds.
Since that's at 10% power that means that the _Galaxy_ class's phasers can output between 1.27 and 2.54 gigatons of TNT every second.
And that's just the phasers, high torpedo yields are portrayed as being more powerful than phasers by a large margin. It's not like these yields are the exception either, it's just that usually blowing up the enemy isn't a valid option or they're going for precision destruction rather than wide spread devastation.
As for the Death Star, of course that's an exception. It's a super weapon.
Meanwhile standard turbo lasers as seen in Star Wars Rebels impact a planet with a force akin to a 40mm cannon and the siege turbo lasers from the Last Jedi are less effective than Phase Cannons.

Who said anything about wikis and technical publications? Those things are unreliable anyway.
I worked out those numbers through observation and math.
Did you even read my comment or did you just post a generic comment?
I never talked about the mechanics of the weapons, I never talking about defenses, I never talking about cloaking technology, etc. Hell, I never even made any claims of sci-fi hardness
You also ignored my comments about how you were mostly right about Star Wars, but ignored that Trek uses variable yield weapons.
If you're not even going to read my comment, don't bother responding.

There are some good master system displays showing rough internal layouts to these, 20 launch tubes per bay, so can launch one full squadron at a time, of the four squadrons originally deployed. Any chance of covering the Thunder fighter from Buck Rogers. GREAT design, although graphics at the time made it look slow and a poor budget didn't excel well.
