- Sting (Vocals & Guitar)
Omar Hakim (Drums)
Darryl Jones (Bass)
Kenny Kirkland (Keys)
Branford Marsalis (Sax)
Dolette McDonald & Janice Pendarvis (Backing Vocs)
1985, I guess.
C'mon Kirkland... :)
I saw this band live. I was absolutely blown away. That drummer..... just phenomenal.
Legendary. Still gives me goosebumps. Still hate my parents not letting me go to the concert.
I watched him tour the Blue Turtles and saw him in Munich at the same time as Chernobyl exploded. We were told to stay indoors, but still walked a long way to the Olympic village to see him. I'm going strong to this day regardless of nuclear fallout and will never forget that utterly brilliant concert.
That's a glowing review
I grew up hearing country and western music, from my parents. Disco and light rock from my sisters. The Who and things like it from my brother. Then I got into heavy metal when I ran across a tape in a box of random stuff, with STING written on it in black sharpie. I hated it at first, it was like nothing I had ever heard before. But I couldnt stop listening to it. It grew on me, and now I love it.
OMAR HAKIM on drums!!
Sting's creativity and dedication to great music is a gift to mankind
frenetical. one of sting´s best songs. I simply love it. And then in this all stars performance, simply fantastic.
this is so fu.... great, further I was at the concert. Simply unforgettable wish Sting would get back to that style again
it certainly makes the 88 shows look like a cheese-fest , personally i loved the 90's shows with Sting back on Bass Dominic on Gtr and Kenny K on keys
December 1985, Dijon, can remember that show like it was yesterday…best ever for so many reasons! I was a first year college freshman from Maine…
i love the band, the music, the girls harmony background, just awesome as only Sting is. this sounded so good for a first time live. Branford is awesome as always
Best band to ever back up sting I was lucky enough to see them in person three times.
Saw this concert at The National Stadium in Dublin in 1985. Tiny venue, very intimate and I will remember the gig until the day I die. Loved every moment
every musican in this band is exactly that, musicians, one of the best bands i have ever seen live
I saw Sting with The Blue Turtles at The Ritz in NYC on Feb. 25,1985. He opened with Roxanne and said this was their first time performing live and he was "Scared Shit less."
Blue Turtles Tour in 1986 and the concert with Gil Evans Orchestra in Perugia, at Umbria Jazz 1987 in Italy, have been the most important things in Sting solo career. Nothing like the moons, during those nights ...
Quite superb rythm section of Jones & Hakim. I saw this band on this tour and it changed my perception of music...enough said!
This is a real singer with a real band. Sounds just like the recording because they can really play!
This just blows the original out of the water.. Flippin' WOW!
Kirkland slayed! Such a great trip down memory lane for me :)
Great song , full on energy, groove groove, best musicians in the world, what more could you want?........IMHO
I miss this sound. This is back when you had to work your butt off. Yeah that's Omar Hakim on drums just setting the place on fire.
I just can't stop listening to it! Is it a dream?....
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, in this version. Saw them live but with the 2nd tour they made, unfortunately not this one, BY FAR Sting's best live, ever. Nobody will ever be able to replicate the level of talent and skill of this band... only true musicians can understand this!
OMG I love Sting but i have never heard this song before, what a crime i committed!!!
the song is AMAZING:)
Omar Hakim is God. This track kept me practicing for months...awesome!
Jeremy, I saw this concert in Milan in 1985. I can assure you that nothing was missing. Probably the best concert in my life. They actually opened with Shadows in the Rain. It was simply great!
saw this show in brighton, one of the best line ups ever!!!!
Excellent! I saw the movie ''Bring On The Night'' by Michael Apted. It's about Sting's first steps as a solo artist. brilliant artist and superb movie. Kenny Kirkland has gone since then, unfortunately! He was such a great guy and a brilliant musician, great sense of humour. Peace to his soul!
Kenny past away way too early. What a fantastic musician. Must soon be 35 years since the "Dream of the blur turtle" Tour. It was a breathtaking concert and the double live LP-record played 10 hrs a day at my home.
Unbelievably great! I was lucky enough to see this tour in 1985 and it was utterly amazing and unforgettable!
Classic. Omar Hakim you are one beast of a drummer. Rare is the performance that outshines Stewart Copeland on a Police track.
i think this was Stings best band ever!!
this is what I call ENERGY!!!
I always forget how great was this band and how nice was this project
AWESOME DRUMMER...
Powerful omar hakim
Amazing; Kenny Kirkland can't quite keep up. On the studio album he lays down one of the all time fierce solos in the history of pop recording, but here he's a step behind. He just never found it.
Omar Hakim, on the other hand is a machine.
I know this is jazz, but face it.
THIS SONG FUCKING ROCKS.
Just watch this movie the other day. One of my favorites.
R & B My goodness this guy is out fo the everything
I remember seeing this concert in Knoxville, Tn. Awesome show!
however, this song, in this live, is just awesome! ..amazing
This is the Music...
Drums baby!! Omar!!
Fine music, I love. It's like my HAPPYNESSSSSSSS!!!
Masterpiece !
Excelente, excelente, excelente
greatest song ever
Epic version indeed. :)
Kenny kirkland the GOAT. still gotta lol at his choice of patch for this one tho haha
Yeah!! It;s really fantastic song...
Bring on the Night!
Pure genius
Everybody is full of energy!!! The quality of the sound is so good!?
this...is...soooo goooooddd :|
BRANFORD on SAX!
I think first time Sting & The Blue Turtles band performed live was in Ritz, NY before this performance
yes they do :) come to belgrade and you"ll hear one :)
Unfuckingbelivable!
When coffee fails you...listen to THIS.
Durga!
@Sylsianne yeah It was in the Ritz , New York
Kenny
Good
thats a Powerful shuffle ..Bands don't play like tha anymore!!
rip kenny kirkland
He passed away on November 12, 1998,
due to congestive heart failure.
@Sylsianne i figured you were 15... damn man you are lucky i love that song xD
i heard it in 1986 or 1987, so i can't remember well: but was it a little slower?
Would somebody please upload the Flintstones part?
The original version of this song is by The Police, and is a lot less listenable than this version is.
@Sylsianne how old were you?
Hmm, could be, maybe in few bpms,
not sure...
@ScrapMetalBomb This is a much better version in my opinion.
@aaronkneile
You have a unique perception of time.
Kirkland's solo is in the pocket the whole way.
live in Essen?
oh wait omar, even sicker, manu played with sting later
All musicians were black, just Sting. That's because he has so much swing.
.
No sé exactamente dónde estoy.
yes, it is.
But i was talking about _this_ performance. I think this video has made it faster, vocals are innatural.
Or maybe i don't remember well.
this is the ritz show?
Tim Bucknall. Paris
the 2 and 4 is like GOD here. If you won't follow that u will die..
I couldn't possibly agree less. This is currently my favorite song of all time and yes I know it's a cover of a Police song, but the original was mediocre at best. Were the Police better than what Sting has become since the mid-90's? Well, that may be a toss-up. But there is no way that they compared to the Blue Turtles band and the 2 albums that follow. My Ten Summoner's Tale I could accept someone's argument about who's better. I still wouldn't agree, but I could see one's perspective.
Both sting and the police are amazing... I adore both...incredible music.. enjoy..
also :-)
Wonder why Branford's name was left off the list above.... what, "sax discrimination"! ;-)
*BY Ten Summoner's Tale...
Original is veeeeery slow, yeah :D

PERFORMED BY THE POLICE,...written by Sting .........
the Police were better.
So much better than Stewart Copeland's reggae nonsense..
For sure bud, that's why Sting became so much bigger and more successful outside of the police OH WAAAAAAIIIIT....
How negative.
Kenny Kirkland fo-eva!
