Sound deadened my car doors while upgrading the speaker system, and the heavy *thunk* sound you get by closing the door or knocking on the panels afterwards is so satisfying. Strange how big of a difference the added rubbery mass of the panels makes
I did see some van conversion before and also saw how people used sound deadening material, but never a before and after comparison. So good! This separates your advices from dangerous half-knowledge.
I’ve watched so many van build videos but can’t recall anyone actually testing it out like you did by driving to show the value of the product. Very informative.
Clear silicone adhesive is the answer to the first issue. I did van conversions for years and this is the first thing we did before insulation and paneling. Kill Mat is awesome stuff, took the tinny sound out of my toyota pick up. All I did was the floor and the back of the cab
Dramatic improvement here. The more I see you using the Sika Flex products, the more impressed with them I get. Nice progress here. Looking forward to the next chapter. Thanks for sharing!
You'll be glad you invested that time and money every time you drive the van. I did something similar to a van I had and it made a huge difference. The only difference was I didn't need to glue my van panels together to stop the rattling first. Shame on Mercedes.
Might just be the camera angle, but it looks like a decent amount of the noise still left is probably coming from the fact that the holes you cut for the windows gave up some rigidity that putting the windows in didn't gain back, they're shaking a fair amount it looks like. I wonder if you could add some sort of stiffening rib to the sheet metal around the window to shore it up.
I didn't use these mats, but insulated my van with Armaflex. That stuff eventually does the same since it sticks to the metal and prevents the high pitch rattle. Of course it would be even more quiet with the dampening mats, but the noise level has reduces so much I would recommend everybody to skip the dampening mats when you are going to insulate your van with Armaflex.
@@WobyDesign True point. Perhaps you can find something under K-flex or Armacell. If you want to insulate your van (some people don't even bother) I think it's worth the bit of extra costs. It's not too expensive compared to other solutions. And next to that it has the highest R-rating for it's thickness, is super easy to apply and will not be sensitive for any mold (big problem with other insulators over time).
I had heard this intel about vans being noisy and purchased the kilmat even before the Ford Transit van I ordered arrived at the dealership. I took a drive from Florida to New York before I installed anything on the van and no loud noise noticed by myself or my wife. I didn’t even need to install the kilmat. So imo the kilmat is not necessary for the Ford Transit. To be fair the Ford does have some sound dampening mats installed from the factory and no broken welds so perhaps that is why it’s not as loud as the Mercedes. The sound clip played from the van in this video is unacceptably loud and if mine was that loud I would have lost my mind. That being said my point is save yourself some money and don’t purchase sound deadening mats until you drive the vehicle. Every vehicle is different. You be the judge.
I’m sure the sikaflex is better than factory, but it also seems like this should be covered under warranty as an obvious failure. Quick google says there’s no recall for it but there has to be an RRT or something that would be free to you. Idk. Cool project!
I just checked my new Sprinter 144” cargo and some of the dam supports are not touching the skin! WTF? The factory adhesive is flexible but has failed because the gaping between supports and skin is just too large so must be filled in and 5:22 built up. What crappy manufacturing. Sound deadening adhesive mats are a must IMHO. Thanks for the tip on the skin/structure gaping.
True, the "before" footage reminded me of the van my dad drove, working as a carpenter for a construction company in the Netherlands: it would shake, ratlle and roll like Bill Haley and his Comets 😄
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road. We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!

By far the best video on sound deadening I’ve seen in 3 years of watching van conversion vids.
wow, as an audio guy, I am impressed by the changes from such a simple fix. well done.

Very awesome! Thanks for sharing. It's these "little things" that are hidden once the project is done that can make such a HUGE difference.

That progress bar on the road noise sample??? Sheeeeesh! 👨🍳👌

WOW! That made a huge difference!
What an amazing difference! Thank you for sharing
Quietly rock that van.
Just perfect … thanks for sharing … can’t wait to see the next one woooooooooo
I used the same exact stuff for my Mini Truck it made a world of difference..
Massive difference, nice work
Simple and helps you keep your sanity.

Nice job, made a big difference. I bet it will also provide some heat insulation as well, which is a plus.

Great video. Surprised on the quality of the van because it's brand new. Super job. Mahalo for sharing! : )
You're the best Ben.
Dude... I'm so stoked for you!
That's impressive. Loving these videos

Not sure but I have hard time finding them in the US. And not to mention the cost.

That’s damn near every street in LA. 😂

I need to try this
That’s crazy good I don’t even drive but I want this stuff
Good stuff
Its not a little different. Its a huge improvement!! Also is very interesting lol
*Impressive*
YES!!
Love your videos Ben but wish they were a bit longer 👍

Ya, I'm thinking it could be a major safety issue. *thankfully he fixed them all before using it*
Yeah, I don’t have a van but this is STILL good content. ✌🏾♥️
lay down a layer on the floors too, big difference
Are plywood wardrobes good?
dude, thats a big change

Hi,
Would it be too much to ask for design view of your planned interior?

How to make any vehicle quieter:
Leave the kids with a sitter!
nice
Everyone who has ever ridden in a service van knows that racket
True, the "before" footage reminded me of the van my dad drove, working as a carpenter for a construction company in the Netherlands: it would shake, ratlle and roll like Bill Haley and his Comets 😄
heaps better bro
What happened to your van build?
Best way to make it quieter is just turn the music up that’s what I do I my work van
i want to put on my apartment walls, but its a rental...

If it wasn't interesting, why did you release it? hahahaha I thought it was interesting, and I don't even have a van
jjjjj
Can't see a single Rolf Harris joke, how disappointing. Can you tell what it is yet?
Any updates on the van @woby ?
hahahahah 0:17 sounds exactly like a brazilian bus aahahahaha
WOOOOWWW
Let's gooooo
