I watch this annually on Thanksgiving Day every year. "Theme from The Last Waltz" with Orchestra is an official Thanksgiving Anthem.

Winterland never should have been torn down.It should have been given historical building staus..Frampton Comes Alive was also recorded here as well as any artist who was somebody played there..Kids skated there, played tennis, boxed as well as ball room dancing. It's a shame someone with hindsight never fought to keep it up

My father played this song for me when I was a child. I had been looking for this song and finally found it. It's wonderful my father taught me what good music is!!!

I just saw this movie. And what got me wasn't the songs and stories as much as the interview of Robbie Robertson at the end. He was discussing how many of music's biggest and most influenial people died before their time due to the strains and tempetations of the road. The sadness in his beautiful brown eyes speaks volumes and can break your heart. It did mine. Great movie. God bless.

"I sometimes wondered what the use of any of the arts was. The best thing I could come up with was what I call the canary in the coal mine theory of the arts. This theory says that artists are useful to society because they are so sensitive. They are super-sensitive. They keel over like canaries in poison coal mines long before more robust types realize that there is any danger whatsoever." - Kurt Vonnegut

I totally agree. First of all Robbie was very good looking and sexy in his youth. Besides that when he smiled it lights up the whole room, and his eyes are very expressive. If you read his books Testimony you will get a better understanding of why he felt they needed to get off the road. First of all he had young family, 3 small children and a wife. Richard was in bad shape due to excessive use of alcohol various drugs including heroin, Levon and Rick Danko (love Rick too, not has handsome as Robbie, but very cute, and what a voice) were also doing heroin. There were accidents anc car wrecks, as Robbie said in an interview, how many times can you roll the dice and be lucky? He felt they had reached their limit.

You are so right. Robbie had very expressive eyes, and as wrote earlier his smile lights up the room So much charisma and good looks, swoon.

Funny how Robbie Robertson was such a cool cat, and since Martin Scorsese was so coked up, Robbie couldn't understand him, and kept asking him to repeat himself lol. Nevertheless, The Last Waltz will go down in history as the best rock movie of all time. Filmed at Bill Graham's Winterland, with a lot of help from Bill, on Thanksgiving of 1976. Most of the audience was fed a Thanksgiving dinner prior to the performance. What a wonderful era. Robbie and the boys will be missed for a long time...

Someone asked what did Robbie Robertson contribute. Simply count the hits he wrote for The Band. The Band's brand is a collection of all members personalities and music.

There is a very WEIRD, BUT AWESOME aspect about this Concert-Movie...
    MARTIN SCORSESE directed it!
As though it's a giant intro portion to a gangster movie! XD
I can just hear Pesci's character complain from *_Goodfellas_* !
"This Rocks HOW?! It makes ya wanna DANCE!? TELL ME HOW THIS IS COOL!?" he wishes there was Italian-Opera music playing considering mobsters from the movie loved instead that music! XD
