    When Robbie smiles it lights up the whole room. He was so good looking when he was young.

    Funny how Robbie Robertson was such a cool cat, and since Martin Scorsese was so coked up, Robbie couldn't understand him, and kept asking him to repeat himself lol. Nevertheless, The Last Waltz will go down in history as the best rock movie of all time. Filmed at Bill Graham's Winterland, with a lot of help from Bill, on Thanksgiving of 1976. Most of the audience was fed a Thanksgiving dinner prior to the performance. What a wonderful era. Robbie and the boys will be missed for a long time...

    Great film. Even greater music. Ever notice how many rock documentaries only play a portion of the songs? Not The Last Waltz.

    Someone asked what did Robbie Robertson contribute. Simply count the hits he wrote for The Band. The Band's brand is a collection of all members personalities and music.

    There is a very WEIRD, BUT AWESOME aspect about this Concert-Movie... MARTIN SCORSESE directed it! As though it's a giant intro portion to a gangster movie! XD I can just hear Pesci's character complain from *_Goodfellas_* ! "This Rocks HOW?! It makes ya wanna DANCE!? TELL ME HOW THIS IS COOL!?" he wishes there was Italian-Opera music playing considering mobsters from the movie loved instead that music! XD

    When Levon Helm explains how music flowed from multiple sources and influences, they ask him what that music is called and he says “Rock and Roll”. That’s good. When Robbie gets melodramatic about how The Road has taken a lot of people, it’s as full of tragic self-pitying bullshit as Hotel California.

    • @poppyorsini5505
      @poppyorsini5505 3 роки тому

      Huh?! The road did take a lot of good musicians ...Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Ricky Nelson, Patsy Cline, need I add more?

    • @hannejeppesen1809
      @hannejeppesen1809 11 місяців тому

      It is not self pity bullshit. Not everyone is cut out for that lifestyle. The were together for 16 years, and were on the road a lot. A this stage, Robbie was married with 3 young children, Rick. Levon, and Richard were heavy into heroin and other drugs, Robbie felt if the kept going something bad would happen. Rick had already had a near fatal car accident, Richard had crashed a few cars. Richard I think was the most addicted and couldn't always be counted on. Also it is not unusually for muscians and other artists to want to explore something new.

    PBS (U.S. TV) is showing again tonight (11/26/16). Last time I saw this, and that was long ago I didn't pay much attention to something that really strikes me now, and should have been obvious to me then. That's when they were off stage Levon ALWAYS had a smoke in hand. Then again it may "helped" his voice. A sports broadcaster was once asked how he (the broadcaster) kept such a rich raspy voice for so long, and he said his advice was to "keep smoking!" Robbie seemed to "match" him smoke per smoke.

    Winterland never should have been torn down.It should have been given historical building staus..Frampton Comes Alive was also recorded here as well as any artist who was somebody played there..Kids skated there,played tennis,boxed as well as ball room dancing.It's a shame someone with hindsight never fought to keep it up
