Can we all agree on something, if dale sr didn't die, the 2001 Daytona 500 would be on this list. The racing itself apart from the final corner was amazing, Mikey getting his first win.
That’s the only thing stopping me from putting that Daytona 500 on my list, the first 199 laps were the very definition of action packed and great racing. It would have definitely been my #1.

A criminally underrated race is the 2004 Kansas race where Joe Nemecheck and Ricky Rudd battled for the win all the way down to the final lap with Nemecheck winning it
With all due respect to the 2008 Aaron's 499, I think the best Talladega race of the 2000s was 2001 spring, a caution-free race which proved you don't need wrecks for a good Dega race
I’m surprised Martinsville or Bristol aren’t on this list, but then again, each race at these tracks usually puts on a good show every time, so it’s hard to really pick out any of them over your top 10. Nice list!
These races also didn't carry alot of storyline which is probably why they didn't get on this list. On racing, action and the finish alone. The 02 Bristol night race would be on the podium
I was at #4. My cousin was pissed when Jr. wrecked. My Favorite was the MBNA Bass Pro Shops 500 at Atlanta in the fall of 2003. It was the first race I went to in person and Jeff Gordon, who was my favorite until he retired, won.

Great list. I still think, despite the tragic ending, the first race of the 21st Century, the 2001 Daytona 500, deserves a place on there. My other two honorable mentions were the two caution-free Talladega races (Hamilton '01 and Junior '02).
Off the top of my head you definitely missed: -2007 Aaron’s 499 (great racing all day with a crazy hard charge at the end by 3 great racers) -2004 Ford 400 (the reason why we still have a playoff) -2009 Sprint All Star Challenge (started slow but damn what a finish) -2002 Sharpie 500 (need I explain❓) Any of these forsure should’ve been on there, but that’s my opinion
The 200s nascar remind me of being a kid and hanging out with my grandpa. I love being able to go back to these old races. Stuff like this is what makes UA-cam so great

2000 NAPA 500 won by Jerry Nadeau, the 2001 Cracker Barrel 500 with 5 cars running under a blanket all while utilizing every groove on the track. The 2006 Dega race (the last one they ran before repaving it) was one of the most underrated and competitive Dega races of all time. Also, hate to say it, but minus the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, that was easily one of the best, most intense and straight up competitive 500s of all time.
Great list! Another classic race is the 2002 fall Charlotte race. Jamie McMurray filling in for Sterling Marlin, and holding off a strong charge from Bobby Labonte in the final laps to get the win in just his 2nd career cup start.
I remember that 2000 Fall Charlotte race that Bobby Labonte won in the Frankenstein car. It was largely forgotten because it was on cable going up against NFL on broadcast tv

Honorable mentions (races I would add) 2001 EA Sports 500 (Dale Jr winning the No Bull 5 after a thrilling lottery for the lead) 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo 400 (Marlin gets hurt and nearly loses his season-long point lead, Kenseth recovers from 2 flat tires to win, Stewart and Wallace fall from contention late) 2002 UAW-GM Quality 500 (rain delay, big wreck caused by Todd Bodine, McMurray holds off Labonte to win)
In my opinion: the 2007 Pepsi 400 was a whole lot better race than the 500 that year, and the finish was better too with Jamie McMurray inching out Kyle Busch by .005 at the line to win the race
The 2002 Pontiac Excitement 400 at richmond was pretty good. So many leader problems in that race. Best part was Robby Gordon hitting the water barrels at pit road entry.
Not bad but I think these races need to be on this list: 2001 EA Sports 500 2002 Sharpie 500 2005 Golden Corral 500 2007 Daytona 500 Also the 2005 Coca-Cola 600 but its a long one
#8 is my favorite race of all time!!! When Dale Sr. Died everyone jumped to Dale jr. I’m a car guy and stuck with the car and well now I’m a Harvick fan.
2002 Sharpie 500 is a glaring omission from this list. Other races I’d say are good enough for honorable mentions: 2005 Coca-Cola 600 2006 Fall Dover 2008 Fall Dover 2007 Pepsi 400
While the rest of the list is debatable, The Dodge Dealers 400 at Darlington was the best race of the decade. The racing was good. There was loads of beating and banging. Not too many cautions, but not too few. The final few lap battle between Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch. AND to top all of that off: there's a beyond great chance that had that finish not happened, Darlington wouldn't exist on the schedule for the last almost 20 years, and would have gone the way of North Wilkesboro or Rockingham. It's like.... the Darlington race had 5 things going for it. None of the other races on this list could top 4.
Honestly the 2001 Talladega 500 needs to be mentioned. No cautions, 37 lead changes, a relatively surprising winner in Bobby Hamilton, and 29 cars on the lead lap at the end of the race
My favorite races from 2000-2009 are as follows 1 - 2003 MTN DEW Southern 500 my all time favorite driver Terry Labonte won with a really good pit stop after the final yellow. 2 - 2000 Brickyard 400 Terry's brother Bobby wins at Indianapolis on his way to his first and only championship. 3 - 2001 Pepsi 400 Jr gets redemption after the DAYTONA 500 when his father was killed 4 - 2005 Sondy HD 500 at California when my current favorite Kyle Busch won his first career race 5 - 2006 New England 300 saw Kyle Busch win in person and was his third win of his career 6 - 2004 Season finalie Kurt Busch wins the championship after Pitting do to a loose wheel staying on the lead lap because the tire stayed on the track bringing out a yellow. 7 - 2007 DAYTONA 500 wild finish between Kevin Harvick and Mark Martin, wish KB made his move earlier because he would've been a 500 winner if he made the pass before Harvick did 8 - 2009 Sylvania 300 Mark Martin wins his final cup race I was there as well 9 - 2007 Food City 500 first COT race Kyle wins the first COT race 10 - 2002 New Hampshire 300 my first cup race in person Ryan Newman won his first career race holing off a strong Kurt Busch was able to hold him off do to rain and NASCAR decided to call it because it was getting dark out since NHMS doesn't have lights
I dont say much, because I start to watch NASCAR in 2008. One interesting moment is the Keselowski first win in Cup in Talladega, remember by spun Carl Edwards and airbone.

9 2005 Ford 400
10 2000 Winston 500
That Kasey Kahne Mopar car at the end 😍
The 2002 Pontiac Excitement 400 at richmond was pretty good. So many leader problems in that race. Best part was Robby Gordon hitting the water barrels at pit road entry.
fun fact(? the 2003 darlington 400 was the last victory for pontiac
Not bad but I think these races need to be on this list:
2001 EA Sports 500
2002 Sharpie 500
2005 Golden Corral 500
2007 Daytona 500
Also the 2005 Coca-Cola 600 but its a long one
Replace the '06 Banquet 400 with the '01 EA Sports 500 and that'd be the only change I'd make
#8 is my favorite race of all time!!! When Dale Sr. Died everyone jumped to Dale jr. I’m a car guy and stuck with the car and well now I’m a Harvick fan.
2007 Daytona 500. 2009 all star race 2007 both Texas races. 2007 Bristol
Man I remember always being so frustrated when blaney would run well then something dumb would happen. That dude deserved at least 2 or 3 wins
Honorable mentions
2001 Spring Talladega
2002 Fall Bristol
2004 Homestead
2007 Spring Martinsville
2007 Spring Texas
2009 Spring Tallladega
As a dale jr fan, 2004 is my favorite year.
2002 Sharpie 500 is a glaring omission from this list.
Other races I’d say are good enough for honorable mentions:
2005 Coca-Cola 600
2006 Fall Dover
2008 Fall Dover
2007 Pepsi 400
2008 fall dover race is major sleeper… that 3way battle at the end had me on the edge of my seat
Suggestion: Top 10 NASCAR Races of the 1990s
Honestly the 2001 Talladega 500 needs to be mentioned. No cautions, 37 lead changes, a relatively surprising winner in Bobby Hamilton, and 29 cars on the lead lap at the end of the race
Plus Dale Jr winning at Talladega, 1 year after his dad got his last win
My favorite races from 2000-2009 are as follows
1 - 2003 MTN DEW Southern 500 my all time favorite driver Terry Labonte won with a really good pit stop after the final yellow.
2 - 2000 Brickyard 400 Terry's brother Bobby wins at Indianapolis on his way to his first and only championship.
3 - 2001 Pepsi 400 Jr gets redemption after the DAYTONA 500 when his father was killed
4 - 2005 Sondy HD 500 at California when my current favorite Kyle Busch won his first career race
5 - 2006 New England 300 saw Kyle Busch win in person and was his third win of his career
6 - 2004 Season finalie Kurt Busch wins the championship after Pitting do to a loose wheel staying on the lead lap because the tire stayed on the track bringing out a yellow.
7 - 2007 DAYTONA 500 wild finish between Kevin Harvick and Mark Martin, wish KB made his move earlier because he would've been a 500 winner if he made the pass before Harvick did
8 - 2009 Sylvania 300 Mark Martin wins his final cup race I was there as well
9 - 2007 Food City 500 first COT race Kyle wins the first COT race
10 - 2002 New Hampshire 300 my first cup race in person Ryan Newman won his first career race holing off a strong Kurt Busch was able to hold him off do to rain and NASCAR decided to call it because it was getting dark out since NHMS doesn't have lights
Vickers green car in 2006 was gorgeous. Wow
I dont say much, because I start to watch NASCAR in 2008. One interesting moment is the Keselowski first win in Cup in Talladega, remember by spun Carl Edwards and airbone.
2007 Daytona 500 should at least been 2nd or 3rd no doubt!!!
Man... I got that program from that Darlington race at number one
My List:
1. 2001 Cracker Barrel 500
2. 2001 Daytona 500(controversial because of Dale but it does deserve a mention)
3. 2000 UAW GM Quality 500
4. 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealers 400
5. 2001 Talladega 500
6. 2007 Daytona 500

- 2005 UAW Ford 500

I’m surprised no 01 500 I mean I get the last corner changed everything but everything else about that race was absolutely amazing
Most of all, Sterling Marlin. My hero
Surprised 2007 Daytona 500 wasn't mentioned
Very good choices!
My Top 10 races from the 2000s (no particular order)
2000 Talladega fall race
2001 Talladega fall race
2002 Bristol night race
2002 Charlotte fall race
2003 Darlington spring race
2004 Talladega spring race
2005 Daytona 500
Both 2007 Talladega races
and 2007 Pepsi 400
Honorable mentions: 2009 Talladega spring race, 2006 Pocono spring race, 2004 Kansas (Nemechek vs Rudd), and 2005 Atlanta spring race
Harvicks win is definitely my favorite being a earnhardt fan because of my grandfather, ya there's still alot of great races but it's everything that happened leading up to that race and what that win stands for is why it's my favorite
Gotta have the 2007 Daytona 500 in the top 10
Although the 2011 was 0.002 they were going much faster so length wise 2003 was closer
"There used to be so many good races on mile-and-a-half tracks, before the 550 hp" ME: yeah, I miss 900 hp.
0:22 nascar has to be the only racing sport to have sponsored ads on the A arms…
2001 and 2003 Southern 500 should warrant some best race consideration.
Honorable mentions should of been when Robby Gordon won in the fdny tribute car at Loudon, and dover in 01 also, pet alone Tony's win at ims
Nadeau should've won 2 of those races. Shame God had it out for him. Least he got one though. Deserved about 5 wins easily
Nascar has talent now no doubt but it’s just not like it was. I know nostalgia is a drug but the drivers back then were more personality and did amazing things. So many legends in the track at the same time
Johnny Benson's first and only win at Rockingham Pop Secret 400
