Much easier to disconnect the lower balljoints, pull the axles out of the trans and drop the subframe. Leave the struts, brakes and axles still in the chassis
Good one guys! Can't get over the fact that while I watch you work on X car, I get to see some of your others cars in the background. Such a cool background, damn it! Love the shop, love all the projects, keep it up guys!
Great ep guys. I would expand on this and say to look for a stock, or nearly stock donor. My son picked up a k20 swapped integra for our Fiero k-swap build. It was a mess. Stripped threads, missing bolts, hacked wiring etc. Never again. It is nice to have everything in one place. the little things (nuts, bolts, clips etc add up quick on a swap).
Note to Self: Steps Not to forget - Remove Radiator, ABS Sensors, Drain Transmission. Other than that, this should be flawless!! thumbs up and subscribed!
the rsx hood latches are known to rip out, the middle frame is made of really thin metal, they are known to crack and rip out boom the result here, hood pins are required.
I used to take the engine out of my old Mini like this. It was so much easier than trying to lift it out the top - and even the rad came out with the subframe! If I remember correctly (it's been many years now), I just had to disconnect the throttle, headers, brake lines, clutch line and one wire to the distributor - then unbolt the subframe and the gearshift remote.
This isn't a base model k20a3 to all you dummies saying it is. The intake manifold is simply covered in dirt. It isn't plastic. You can even see the oil cap calls for 5w30. The base mode k20 uses 5w20. It's a k20a2 from a 02-04 rsx type s.
Forget the pickle forks when pulling tie rod ends. Take two BFH's hold one up against the back of the steering arm. Then with the other one, give the steering arm a good hit ( on the front side where the tie rod end goes thru it ) . That pops them loose, no damage to the boot or the arm. And usually works better then the pickle fork too!
Yep one hammer works. The second one just transmit more of the force into the steering arm. With a single hammer you might need to hit it a couple extra times.
The hood latch was cut out and removed so the aftermarket hood would fit, then the hood pins became necessary and their the only thing keeping the hood shut
James Basoo Keihin has been a longtime OEM supplier to Honda. They make carbs and a lot of other electronics for Honda vehicles. Think of them like Toyota to Denso.
Turning the drain plug wrong way, Thinking left, in the sense of by front facing hand turn directional rotation, but with a wrench, and above head, its push to pull, or flipped opposite, so push away, is left, and pull towards you, is right, which is what you where doing.. LOL.. Its almost a regular common mishap with everyone that works on cars, regardless of how long been working on them. I still do it once in a while, and ive built plenty of cars. and over 20 years wrenching LOL!!!! Welcome to "DOH"!!! hahah
I just spent three hours trying to find someone, anyone dropping a Honda drivetrain assembly the quick way! I was starting to think it was something odd about Hondas. With a little bit of practice, you'll be able to do that in less than two hours. To change an engine in a fwd vehicle, it's usually twice as fast as playing with all the quirky mounts, separating the transmission, shared brackets, clutch or converter bolts blah blah blah. What you can do warp speed zipping around the motor sitting on your Snap On wheeled short stool. Bolts and mounts on the subframe are at perfect working height without space constraints to knock it out with airgun and ratcheting wrenches. Literally 20 minutes or less to pull the motor off the sub in the open. I really want to thank you guys. I've got really bad knees and separating everything in the car is awful for me. Pull the calipers and wheel speed sensors, bungee them in the wheelwells. Pull the radiator and condenser anyway, always leaves and bugs in between them anyway. Don't have to worry about swinging the motor into it. Thank again guys.
My RSX had the hood latch get stuck, couldn't get the hood open. Switched to hood pins after and luckily didn't have a hood fly open on me. If that RSX was blue I would have been wondering if you guys got my old car!
actually if you live in ontario and you have time to kill go to kenny-u-pull every week end for a couple weeks and you will eventually find one you pull it out of the car you’re self and 145$ later your good to go
I was helping my friend change oil on a k24, dude who ever put the oil filter on did it with a (I’m joking) a welder... we could not get it off and I didn’t want to stick a screw driver in it
That’s a lot if you think about it. U can buy a rsx driving for 1000 and a smashed one for 500 and then take it all apart I got a auto rsx for 400$ just saying it can be even cheaper and u can. Make all your money back from parting the car
Would someone tell me why when he tilted the transaxle, (BTW ITS A TRANSAXLE!!) why did it leak atf/MTF? I thought there were seals where the cv axles go. i've never dealt with them ever leak but i've never tilted one either haha
Easy buy a wrecked Honda civic or Honda accord or a Acura Rsx that doesn't have front end collision and there you have it a cheap k swap like theirs on the channel
I have a question for you guys at speed academy. I have a e92m3 but I do have an s2000 that is payed off as well. Should I sell the M3 and turn the s2000 into a track car and buy a Honda Fit as a DD. Or should I keep the m3 and keep just doing autocross?
Glad I ran across you guys ! Hey I've got a 1983 Toyota Corolla Wagon with a 1.6 ebgine and it has a 3 speed automatic transmission ... I'm wanting to do a swap on the 1.6 and get a 22R... My queston is will the transmission I have bolt up to the 22R engine ? Any info would be great... Thanks...
Ronnie Sellers no you would need at the least an R series engine bellhousing. I'm not positive if your automatic transmission has a removable bellhousing though..
Also fitting the 22r into the engine bay will take some special mounts at the least the 2 engines are not from the same engine series. Being a 1.6 my guess is its a 4a engine.
You don't want to keep that automatic anyways just do a 5-speed swap they are very simple in that car all the provisions are already there it literally is just a Bolt in deal
Almost Legit Garage I’ve seen this twice on UA-cam and both cars were from up north. Possibly rust, The latch just rips out. I had my hood fly open at 65 mph at night in a ford probe on a one way road. Scary stuff
This is a k20a2, that's a PRB intake manifold just covered in bullshit😅, the k20a3 has a black, plastic intake manifold which is probably what thought it was im guessing.
This channel needs way more views and subscriptions!! Glad I found you guys.

Love saving the money by doing the work! Don't have to worry about them half-assing pulling the swap!
I used to take the engine out of my old Mini like this. It was so much easier than trying to lift it out the top - and even the rad came out with the subframe! It's a k20a2 from a 02-04 rsx type s.
This man's on track with the Honda boi knowledge😎
That's why a K Swap is so expensive , labor costs to remove everything by part. . But this is an excellent idea for any type of swap. Thanks video!
Is there a way to give 2 thumbs up? You guys do a great job including what we want to see and no time wasters!
K Swap the world ❤️
Forget the pickle forks when pulling tie rod ends. Take two BFH's hold one up against the back of the steering arm. Yeah. I was taught to "hit where it goes through"...and it seems to work a treat, without extraneous damage. :-)
Yup even just one hammer but leave the nut on loose incase you miss you won't damage the threads lol
Yep one hammer works. The second one just transmit more of the force into the steering arm. With a single hammer you might need to hit it a couple extra times.
Don’t let the secrets out I’m gonna need a few spare K20 for when they break....
So you guys are officially changing the name to K-Swap Academy, right? I dig it.
Have you seen that BoostedBoiz is swaping a K24 into a STI with AWD...
Yep
Unfortunately yeah I did see that
Good, it's a better engine
sneeky7 you have something that EJ25s never have. Reliability and revs
A well sized turbo will fix that issue
You guys are so lucky in the USA. We can't even get the shell body for that money in S.A
Best part of this vid....the 'wheel' on Connie. Niiiiiice.
You guys are outstanding...thanks for your all the advices
11:20 That's all I want right now is everything that's on that dolly lol.
Pete’s gonna get an email from Harvard after that engineering genius!!
PROPS TO PT FOR THE SICK DOLLY AND JACK ENGINE CATCH
6:10 I like the flares on the celica, wheels a good choice too
Wheels look great on the Celica in the background..
The hood latch was cut out and removed so the aftermarket hood would fit, then the hood pins became necessary and their the only thing keeping the hood shut
This is exactly how i am looking into doing a swap.
such an ingenious way of doing it
I put the nut partially on the tie rod thread and tap with a hammer.
Man id love to find one of these on the East coast for my em2, i hope you still have it id buy the whole car.
You should do a 2nd gen civic D15B7 swap I cant find anything about someone swapping a d series in a old 2nd Gen civic it's always K or B series
Interesting, the ECU is a Keihin, same make as the carbs on my gen 2 Civic :)
James Basoo Keihin has been a longtime OEM supplier to Honda. They make carbs and a lot of other electronics for Honda vehicles. Think of them like Toyota to Denso.
denso supplies sensors and ignition components to honda as well
Gabriel Lundrigan pretty sure my starter's a Denso

2:20 I think you mean... Compressive?
YEEEEEAAAAAAHHH
12:25 lol , good to see the pros doing that too,..
I SEEN THIS GUY AND HIS CAR!
i guess i missed out on a k swap
I want to drop a k24 in a Pontiac fiero😂😂okay so I need to know what transmission you would recommend i use, I would like it to be manual.
Use the 6spd RSX Type S one
I been asking if your going to make 240 k swap parts
About a deal and a quarter if you're going by the exchange rate with USD right now.
Might as well do a frank swap and use that head on the k24. Will be a beast and easy to do on the k24a2
My RSX had the hood latch get stuck, couldn't get the hood open. Switched to hood pins after and luckily didn't have a hood fly open on me. If that RSX was blue I would have been wondering if you guys got my old car!
actually if you live in ontario and you have time to kill go to kenny-u-pull every week end for a couple weeks and you will eventually find one you pull it out of the car you’re self and 145$ later your good to go
That drain plug was put on with moose spec!
I was helping my friend change oil on a k24, dude who ever put the oil filter on did it with a (I’m joking) a welder... we could not get it off and I didn’t want to stick a screw driver in it
It happen to me, with a crx next to a 18 wheeler, in the HW the air came from bottom to top and blew the hood
That’s a lot if you think about it. U can buy a rsx driving for 1000 and a smashed one for 500 and then take it all apart I got a auto rsx for 400$ just saying it can be even cheaper and u can. Make all your money back from parting the car
Take this K20 and build its internals ready for boost so when the one in the 240 dies, this one goes in boosted
Nice work wheels on the celica!!
suggestion: lower engine with engine crane onto trolley, then lift car with engine crane. the jacks thing was sketchy
You guys should just grab a ep3 steering rack, no fluid all electric bout 300.
Brady Warren tell me more about this swap
I would like to know as well
Same, I need that honda boi knowledge
This is great and all but honestly I just want to see you guys work on the Celica...
7:51 Don't use a torque wrench to loosen bolts.
I'm pretty sure it's one of those extendable ratchets from harbor freight.
I see this a lot on UA-cam. I don't think they've read the destruction manual...
damn the celica looks so sexy in the background. Really looking forward to future vids on it. those wheels are porn!
Would someone tell me why when he tilted the transaxle, (BTW ITS A TRANSAXLE!!) why did it leak atf/MTF? I thought there were seals where the cv axles go. i've never dealt with them ever leak but i've never tilted one either haha
Dont forget the shifter and cables. Unless it wasn't included in the sale
would the k20 have fit the 240 better then the 24 as far as hood clearance/frame spacers?
Great content guys!
Out of curiosity, do you guys call each other DP and PT all the time? Or just on camera?
Easy buy a wrecked Honda civic or Honda accord or a Acura Rsx that doesn't have front end collision and there you have it a cheap k swap like theirs on the channel
What is the procedure to swap a k24a2 to rsx base
What kinda impact gun was that? None of mine can tackle a subframe bolt :(
IHelp i have a k20z3 engine giin into an ek hatch but still havent found a trans.. my question is can a k20a2 trans bolt up to my k20z3 engine ??
I have a question for you guys at speed academy. I have a e92m3 but I do have an s2000 that is payed off as well. Should I sell the M3 and turn the s2000 into a track car and buy a Honda Fit as a DD. Or should I keep the m3 and keep just doing autocross?
Scav68 both are moving up in value, but S2000s are going up faster, if you dont go the track car route, what will you DD
*pretends to be working on a car* "Oh hi I didn't see you there. Since you happened to be filming, let me tell you about the car work I'm starting!"
How about the wiring harness??
That head on a K24 and straight into the s2k folks! :D
Can this be done with a 7th gen accord k20? Need a swap for my ep2 d16
Thought you wanted the cabin harness to?
What is the tire brand model on the front two?
Looks like telehandler tires.
Why arnt people swappin in the new K20Cs yet? 300+hp stock and great fuel economy.
Shabuti R18 It cost more and you can make more power with a k20/k24 and it’s cheaper
No real 3 lobe vtec on both cams on those new k20Cs. But I see your point with the stock vs stock comparison.
This was a cool video!
You were turning the drain plug the wrong way
i noticed that also lol
You noticed that too Eh.
patrick vincenti actually he was turning it the correct way
No hes going the right way
What year is the vehicle
Is that a crappy tire motomaster oil filter?
Glad I ran across you guys !
Hey I've got a 1983 Toyota Corolla Wagon with a 1.6 ebgine and it has a 3 speed automatic transmission ...
I'm wanting to do a swap on the 1.6 and get a 22R...
My queston is will the transmission I have bolt up to the 22R engine ?
Any info would be great...
Thanks...

You don't want to keep that automatic anyways just do a 5-speed swap they are very simple in that car all the provisions are already there it literally is just a Bolt in deal
Honestly your better option for a swap would probably be a 4age swap. 22r is nothing special at all.. I have 2 1981 Celicas with a 22r
FZT Motorsport Plus i think the 5spd would be cheaper at this point, more support for it nowadays
RSX’s are know for the hood flying up. So it’s probably the second time it happened lol.
Almost Legit Garage I’ve seen this twice on UA-cam and both cars were from up north. Possibly rust, The latch just rips out. I had my hood fly open at 65 mph at night in a ford probe on a one way road. Scary stuff
Never heard of hoods flying up after 8 years in the community
Aret Han Z. I've only seen it happen at high speed, usually in drag Racing
Dude you got ripped. That whole car is worth $500... If that. That dudes ganna make a killin off that part out with you guys paying those prices 😂
is that a k20a2 or the k20a3 thats in the RSX/EP3
u sed u dividend a whole stacc not 8notes... y ?
damn was expecting a RSX race car
Can I buy the transmission
8th
Edit... More celica plz
K swaps are the ls swaps of imports
put that K20 in a Honda Civic EM2 !
Welshy em2's are ugly pop it in an em1
XplosiveFuZioNHD they already did an EM1...
Fuck that, ej1
I wanna see the video of what's going on with those flares on Connie... 👀 👀 👀
Common problems on the Dc5, I got bought mine rsx with the same problem for 1,000 with only 130k lol
Is that a K20a2 or a3?
If a K seies doesn't have good comp after 140k miles or so, you might have wanted to buy an older Toyota
Why not to remove the engine front the top?
pavel1809 he needed it all anyways
The wheel on Connie tho :O
is a non type s rsx has vtec?
What impact are you using?
amzn.to/2JIIhZ0
Can someone explain to me what the appeal of the K_ honda engine is?
Brenton solid deck block. Even with stock bottom end they're good for about 500hp. With Just rods and pistons you can shoot for the moon.
when doing a k swap does it still pass emissions?
Assuming the emissions controls are untouched it should.
If only my base auto was just a base manual
Why does your man sound like Ryan Reynolds lmaooo
Found a tsx for $500, even better!
Was this a base RSX with a K20a3?
This is a k20a2, that's a PRB intake manifold just covered in bullshit😅, the k20a3 has a black, plastic intake manifold which is probably what thought it was im guessing.
Weird how the whole latch tore out.
a friend of a friend of mine got her RSX rear ended. she going to sell me the car for $650usd
Connie lookin good ;)
