Here's my theory on what this story is: they are both lonely but they cannot be together because of what they are, the boy being winter and death and the girl being summer and life. They are incompatible in every meaning of the word, being complete opposites in nature. Because of their persuasion over nature their very existences do not allow them to be anywhere near each other without something disastrous happening, thus making them forever alone.
Night Owl Also, try using google translate on the title. "Premier Automne", meaning "First Autumn". This could also be a creative (scientifically inaccurate, yet artistic) way to explain how autumn first began, and that last scene would explain autumn there and after.

I never realized how CGI animation can be so diverse in styles until I started watching this channel. this type of diversity should be commercialized and put into mainstream media because they are too beautiful to be unnoticed

As death enters life, and life enters death, all things created from both, becoming one thing. "Divided for loves sake, for the chance of union. " Very beautiful. Reality is beautiful at both opposite ends of the same pole, light and dark, different shades of love. God, the ALL MIND, is love.

It's not either/or. They're metaphors for each other: winter = death & summer = life. They're also dependent on each other: living things depend on decay/dead things to sustain life (like fertile soil), while death comes from life.
Summer can bring death as well in other extreme environments like dry season were vegetation & water is low. I think it’s more spring & winter, since spring always is full of life. I remember watching documentaries about Africa wild life & how terrible dry season or summer was for them.

Just stay alive no matter what ridicule happens to you and please remember there are other countries that deal with the exact same thing! Extremely high expectations and such horrid ridiculing- by both Teachers and Students!

Oh man, this was such a wonderful short film. But the moment I saw the puppies I knew there was going to be some tears, and I was right.
I know not every story can have a happy ending, but the scene where they're playing with each other at the end was the closure I was overjoyed to see.
Beautiful! And at the same sad, because they seem to have a very strict rules to be alive at the same and stay "together"

This is amazing! and at the end is like how the seasons change.
Actually the whole thing was about the seasons changing.
When death (the boy) was gaining on life (the girl), it killed everything, like in autumn.
This caused life to be afraid and try to run and hide, like in winter.
But right before death completely overtook life, it retreated, like in spring.
Then life came back and brought everything back to life, like in summer.
Then at the end, it was just showing the continuous balance between the seasons. :)

Life and death, winter and summer, cannot be combined. A wonderful short story is the inequality. Everyone has his life immersed in it and accustomed to it by its nature and its unity from the negatives and positives that you can live on your own. Others do not accept it.

The love and the curiosity between that can never be together the opposites that want to be together but are pulled apart. The sad truth of the world is that to many are opposites that compliment each other but can never be with each other only with another that the other can not love. On the bright side they can always be friends.

This is, by far, the most beautiful, entrancing, and detailed animation I think I have ever seen... I've seen wonderful animation, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like this. I'm literally speechless, usually, I can go on and on about something, but I literally do not have any words to describe how beautiful this was.
After a few minutes of recovery:
Still totally shocked and amazed by this! I may only be 12, so maybe I haven't seen as many animations as adults, but this is by far the most gorgeous and artistic work I think I have ever seen. I love animation, and study it often, but I have never seen anything like this before. The plot was brilliant and the character design was marvelous! It captured both life and death as innocent children perfectly, and their attitudes and actions displayed their characters wonderfully. The setting and style made me speechless, and the entire animation as a whole was totally immersive. More in the replies, running out of characters.
This animation reminded me of why I enjoy art and animation so much, why I want to be an animator. I'm still dying over this beautiful piece. The music was wonderful as well, and tied the story together perfectly. I know that I'm 12, and I'm judged for just being a kid, and people tell me I don't have the maturity or comprehension to understand metaphors like this, but I do! Anyone who watches this can easily tell that it represents life and death sure, but there was so much more to it than that! Their behaviors, their personalities, their emotions, we're all conveyed beautifully in their expressions and actions. Life and Death being displayed as children was an AMAZING choice, showing innocence and making the characters relatable. The lack of dialogue was a great choice too, as it made the expressions more developed. Amazing job to the team working on this project! I am still at a loss for words. (Well, not according to the character limit on the comments!😄)
