So glad you like the solution and for the subscribe. I have another video making a T spanner part. At the moment the stuff I have on order seems to be going slow. Interesting mod., small design oversights like this can have a major effect on the overall quality of an object. I liked the cross slide measuring readout. However, the downside of Myford lathes is the lack of a cross-slide stop that makes these shouldered components more fiddly to produce.
I would fully recommend one of Dave's kits, an absolute piece of cake to fit, five minutes and my stock to action attachment improved 100% in five minutes.
Well done Dave, i hope BSA see this and thank you - actually they should be offering you a job! An excellent solution to a potentially very frustrating problem - Its a shame that BSA didn't resolve this themselves
Nice one, a man after my own heart. Another solution would have been to epoxy'd an appropriate size dowel in the underneath counterbore, trimmed flush and drilled to take a flat washer and decent Allen bolt through. Would have strengthened and supported the area of wood also. Some great ideas thank you.
Yes, that is one way to address the void on the inside of the stock. But the 6mm thread in the gun mechanism is not very deep, so over a period of time, there is going to be wear. The double-ended stud solves both of these problems.
@@dave20thmay 6 turns, from watching your video, of a 6mm thread is 6mm deep, is not a shallow depth. Over a period of time, how many times does one remove and refit the stock of a gun? Your design still leaves a very frail depth of wood supporting the assembly.
Excellent solution, great craftmanship. All the stress is now metal to metal, the wood is just sandwiched. Also highlighted as a flaw was pellet shavings in the magazine and mechanism. Have you come across / fixed this apparent problem ?
Hi Paul. I have not come across that problem with the magazine and these days mainly use a single shot that I made. Find it easy to swop pellets choice and it is nearly as easy as loading the magazine. Best Dave
Great video but what would have been the point of BSA counter boring the stock in the first place. Do you know if newer ones are the same as I would quite like one.
Yes it seems that even the new AAR Green ones with side lever still have the counterbore on the inside of the stock. I do wonder if that was for holding during the machining process, can't see any other reason to just remove material in a rather critical place. Still a great gun and accurate even when just leaning against a wall and holding the gun while standing. I'm still hitting a penny size or acorns out of their cups at 30-40 meters. Best Dave
I've just seen the video david. ingenious just for the those who questioned my experience with airguns, whilst I can't produce a highly polished youtube video I've spent the best part of the last 10 years working in the background with various manufacturers on action design prototyping and testing. aswell as improving the fixing and mounting options on plenty of hft and ft converted 10m air rifles. so I'm somewhat familiar with how this stuff should work 😉

Hi Simon. I will always keep a stock of the kits to help fix that hopeless screw. Read how to send and email to me, then I can send you details. Best Dave
I am really pleased how well it is working. This morning I received a 10mm socket that I'm going to make into a tool to remove the stock, which hopefully people will keep in their kit to remove the monoblock if they get a loose pellet in the works that has fallen out of the magazine. So will have to see about getting a site up on eBay and work out what a reasonable price would be. Thank you for your interest and for watching the video. Will do an update video when everything is in place.
Hi Dave, I've just seen your video about the 'fix' on the stock fixing for the CLX. Are you able to supply one of these as I am just about to purchase an Ultra CLX and would be very interested? Regards, Peter
Hi iv just bought my wife one of these and the dust cover over the fill port just slide freely ! Could you tell me how you stoped yours from doing so ? All the best mark !
I think you are right, but my stud kit does fill the hole and support the stock. I and seventy users think it is a good engineering solution. Also under the screw head was a star washer, that cut away at the bottom of the outside screw hole. The washer and domed nut does a much better job of holding the stock on. Try one before you buy if you like.
I would love for you to have the fixing bolt, which I know will make your gun excellent. If you email me by going to ABOUT. I will give you all the details. I have had good feedback from the 16 who have fitted the Stud. Look forward to hearing from you. Best Dave
I sure do have them, although stocks of the studs are getting low. Will have to get out there and start a new batch. You should easily find my email by clicking on my face in the round disk. Best Dave
Hi to you. I know how good my fix is, but not about unscrewing the cylinder or even what de pinning is? I know that you would have to completely let all the air out by repeated shooting to unscrew it. But what you'd want to do after that I don't know. Not even sure I'd need to know as I find the rifle perfect as it is. I wondered why you did not come back to order a Stud kit?
Hi Mark. I'm fairly certain that the R12 does not suffer the same fault. If you are getting or have one and find it has got the internal counterbore and could do with this stud fix, let me know and we will get it sorted. Would love to add another BSA to my collection, but her indoors might have a moan about it. All the Best and have a Great Christmas. Dave
@@dave20thmay Thanks for the reply. Not had any issues yet with the R1but as they are on the same block thought it may be the same problem. I will keep n eye out and see what happens and let you know. Merry Christmas to you too.
Hi Andy. Thank you for asking. Yes I will always have these, sometimes stock gets so low with a good few going out that I have to even rob my own gun. Send an email Do adjust the address. Look forward to hearing from you. Best Dave
Would be interested in buying the bolt and washer mod for the stock if you have any available. Price for 1 posted? Great video, loved seeing all the machines you have in your workshop.
what maybe better is if you glued a dowel in and obviously drilled it through there after to allow the bolt through for the mono block.then its actually as if the stock was truly thicker, not just supported by washers...im thinking of buying a clx and saw the video you refer to and considered how it could be resolved....do you like the CLX?ive many air rifles and bsa in particular and fancied a nice short light rifle for pest control from the car...i do like the stock on the ultra SE better, just the way its shaped,is more interesting to the eye and looks perfect for shooting off hand
That has been suggested several times. Even filling with liquid metal paste. But the thing for me is there is not a lot of thread in the gun, so if you want your gun to still be working fine in fifty years' time, my stud takes that problem away. One of my Cadet Majors I bought in 1960 and it still shoots amazing accurately. Well, over 100 now shipped and no complaints, so others don't think the Bodge is worth doing.
The silencer/moderator is a BSA with a code of 644. on my box it is listed as £51.95. Pretty good at quietening the gun, compared with the muzzle break.
Will you update on here when your about to sell on eBay or where you will sell them. Could be you just do it on a FB page. When someone wants one they message you with quantity. No fees, just do one posting of orders every 2 weeks if the volume is good enough or weekly if that’s easier.
@@dave20thmay Thanks for the reply. It’s the same for every commodity around the world. Look forward to these. I’ve just checked mine and I have about 5mm thickness. Still not very good though. Keep up the good vids.
Hi just watched this video and would be interested in buying this mod if you have any left? I am not sure how to get in contact with you other than this comment but I will try and keep an eye on the reply. Thanks.

Now that is a great idea, you could even use metal paste and then drill through. But it would not address the short amount of thread that the screw fixes into.
I bet if you had the stud, you'd see that it was much better than just a Torx screw. The support given inside the stock and also not wearing out the threads in the block over many years. No doubt these guns can be around in sixty years like my Cadet Major.
No, I did not fit it to make it quieter. But just to stop the metal faces of the barrel and silencer, being close, the rubber O ring gives it some grip so no need to really tighten down. Just a thought. Dave
good luck to you if you can sell this piece....us shooters love to buy a lemon and try to fix it bsa should be ashamed......it still relies on a very thin piece of timber to hold the stock in place...filling the gap without bonding it to the stock does not help....i still think epoxy and a plain washer is the solution
I hope you don't think the CLX is a lemon. It's each to their own I suppose. I like what I've done and reading the mail I get back, not just in the comment section a lot of others feel the same.
Sorry Dave.....the clx is a lemon....tell us how to remove the barrel with the transfer port trapped in the monoblock.....no there's too much wrong with it
Hi Bryan. Not sure that I need to remove the barrel, but the transfer tube can be removed after drilling out a blanking plug and using a small easyout to pull it out. I think the transfer tube was brass. It is still a great gun even if there is a drizzle of lemon.
send me an email. Click on my face in the round circle and you will see a page with my details. Copy the email address which is there. Hope to hear from you soon. Best Dave

I would love for you to have the fixing bolt, which I know will make your gun excellent. If you email me by going to ABOUT. I will give you all the details. I have had good feedback from the 16 who have fitted the Stud. Look forward to hearing from you. Best Dave
Sorry to bother u mate any chance of getting bolt kit of u for my clx got one of u last year i need again new gun cheers dave
Hi Darren. I have a kit for you, but can't find your name to get your email. Could you find my email on the YT video and send me an email. Best Dave
I'm considering getting a BSA CLX Ultra do you still have your mod's available?
I sure do have them, although stocks of the studs are getting low. Will have to get out there and start a new batch. You should easily find my email by clicking on my face in the round disk. Best Dave
Hi again.. how easy is the removing the cylinder? . My intention is to de ping my clx .. does it just screw or ? .. plz advise many thanks
@@dave20thmay send me order details so i can plz
@@degingedeginge9167 I need an email address to do that. Mine is d.j.wilson@mac.com. Which country are you in, hope it's the UK. Best Dave
Hi Dave. Would these fit the R12 CLX PRO side lever? If so cold you please tell me how much they are. Great workmanship.👍👍
@@markmdusty3 Hi Mark. I'm fairly certain that in the feed-back I have received from clients that the R12 does not have this fault. Best Dave
Hi Dave, excellent idea! Do you sell these please? Many thanks
Glad you found the email. That was the fastest inquiry to posting yet. Hope you enjoy the improvement to the excellent CLX
Hi are you still making these ? How can I buy one from you please .
Yes, I am still making them. Follow the info to find my email and send me a message. I'll give you details. Best Dave
Good evening, do you have any of these left please?

@@dave20thmay I’d definitely be happy with that package just to put my mind at ease! Please update when we can get them! :)
what maybe better is if you glued a dowel in and obviously drilled it through there after to allow the bolt through for the mono block.then its actually as if the stock was truly thicker, not just supported by washers...im thinking of buying a clx and saw the video you refer to and considered how it could be resolved....do you like the CLX?ive many air rifles and bsa in particular and fancied a nice short light rifle for pest control from the car...i do like the stock on the ultra SE better, just the way its shaped,is more interesting to the eye and looks perfect for shooting off hand
@@dave20thmay okidoke..
Have you got any of your bolts available
Hi Michael Thanks for getting in touch. Yes will always have kits. God willing. Best Dave
is Air Arms S400F Classic or BSA Ultra CLX better?
I would say it is a coin toss between them. I'd be more than happy with either or better both.
what moderator are you using?
Garden shed inventions, got to love it 😂
Actually, it's the garage, but same thing. Must get back out there now I've had an order of 304 arrive today. Best Dave
Hi just watched this video and would be interested in buying this mod if you have any left? I am not sure how to get in contact with you other than this comment but I will try and keep an eye on the reply. Thanks.
Hi Steven. Second request this evening. Go up to my face photo and click on it. That will take you to a page and along the end of the list is ABOUT, which has my email address. Send one and I'll send you all the info. Best Dave
Where can I get one? Just got my clx a few weeks ago and need your fix!
send me an email where I'll give you details of the kit.
All it needs is a wooden plug glued in and driiled then a flat washer between the serrated washer and the stock as a DIY solution.
That has already been suggested. So not really original. How about two part epoxy?
Are you selling the screw?
I would be interested in getting that fitting for my clx
Hi Alex. Send me an email for all the details
Just posted a follow-up video. This is the link. ua-cam.com/video/W-VCzg7Ftlg/v-deo.html Also if you want to see some photos which I hope to add more, do a search on Instagram. dave20thmay.
Can I still buy one of these for my CLX?
Yes, you can. Fly a drone over and arrange collection. d.j.wilson@mac.com
Brilliant idea and am very interested.. how can i get one please ?
How do I buy one of these from you?
Hi Rich. Glad you got in touch. Best Dave
@@dave20thmay was being stupid Dave all good now 👍
Are these fixes still available?
they sure are. 🙂
Ye gads such an easy thing to fix little piece of dowel bit of glue drill hole thru dowel once glued job done 45 seconds tops
Now that is a great idea, you could even use metal paste and then drill through. But it would not address the short amount of thread that the screw fixes into.
OK Dave. ...I love the old bsa's but I would never buy a recent one....good luck to you
Thank you Bryan. Have a Great New Year and happy shooting.
I don't think it's a design fault, rather an owner's fault.
I have a ultra but the stock screw has a plain washer and does not work loose.
I bet if you had the stud, you'd see that it was much better than just a Torx screw. The support given inside the stock and also not wearing out the threads in the block over many years. No doubt these guns can be around in sixty years like my Cadet Major.
Dave 20thmay. Curious to know if this is a birthday reference... from someone who "arrived" on earth on that day in 1949!
Beat you by 8 years. Great day to have a birthday on. There are a lot of famous people's birthdays on that day. Dave

@@russelltaylor1601 Hi Russel. Follow the description just under the video to find my email. Send me a message to get details. Dave
So when you mentioned about the o ring before the silencer was that meant to make it quieter? you are an handy bloke Well done
No, I did not fit it to make it quieter. But just to stop the metal faces of the barrel and silencer, being close, the rubber O ring gives it some grip so no need to really tighten down. Just a thought. Dave
A man and his shed is all you need sometimes
Everyone needs a lathe. I don't know what I'd have done without mine over the years.
Just ordered your kit and paid through paypal
It is already for the post tomorrow. Thanks Dave
Hi, great mod I’d like to purchase one please.
👌👍
Glue a peace of wood inside job done
Now that is a good idea. I wonder why 120 who have bought the kit did not think of that? Best Dave
good luck to you if you can sell this piece....us shooters love to buy a lemon and try to fix it bsa should be ashamed......it still relies on a very thin piece of timber to hold the stock in place...filling the gap without bonding it to the stock does not help....i still think epoxy and a plain washer is the solution
I hope you don't think the CLX is a lemon. It's each to their own I suppose. I like what I've done and reading the mail I get back, not just in the comment section a lot of others feel the same.
Would love to buy one off you
I've just uploaded a new video of the kit being made. this is a link to that one. ua-cam.com/video/1y-TTs4dN_E/v-deo.htmlsi=w5Hw82uefMaQ4Rui Best Dave
BSA should have recalled every stock and sacked some people.
Put it on eBay 👍
@@dave20thmay minimum £20 + postage I would be looking for two.
