Superb video thank you. Please give me your opinion for competitive target shooting which model would you suggest? The Standard version or the Super Carbine? Thank you
Hi Tim. I'm not sure it would make much difference in the hands of most shooters, but I'd say the longer barrel on the Standard rifle would probably give the edge. Thanks very much for watching.
Hi, brilliant review and a lovely looking rifle. I’ve tried to enter the comp but my email wouldn’t send and the other method would connect either. Kind regards, Martin
I have a BSA ultra with the bolt action and a 10 shot magazine... I always come back from a hunting trip with pellets left over and air to spare!.. How many bunnies can you carry??
Owned 2 R10se and had problems with air leaks Inconsistent accuracy, shooting groups ok then 4inches off high/ low , then grouping reasonable then all over the place again 🙄. Magazine jams. Sold both rifles after a few months at a considerable loss. Looks nice but have BSA sorted out quality control 🤔
I'm sorry to hear taht. By contrast I have two R-10s and have had no issues. Probably my most reliable guns. You could pick any rifle and there will be a horror story. The R-12 is a completely different rifle though. I've been using it for a couple of months without any issues.
I got mine Yesterday, went to fill it up with air, started to leak out for a couple or seconds then sounded like the seals popped then was ok,does it every time, the fill probe seems to lose to me.? Was the one you reviewed ok.? trigger has a lot of travel to..ands it's only day one.🤔
Hi John. The probe doesn't seem to go far into the port but I managed to get it to fill without problem. I do recall one time having to rotate it slightly to seal properly. If you're filling when the rifle is very low on air you will get a few clunks as the reg resets but no harm is being done. The trigger is adjustable. Initially it had quite a long first stage but I managed to adjust that. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
@@redpillnibbler4423 It's a great one to start with. Are you thinking .22 or .177? I've heard there's an issue with the .177 which is being addressed so there may be a delay in ordering.
@@airgunextra I’ve researched the issue, apparently bsa still haven’t resolved it even though its a relatively easy fix so I’m holding off buying one and looking at other makes like Daystate S510/Daystate Revere, though ideally I’m after a higher shot count.
I will let you know what I think of it when I get it Richard, can i just if you don't mind what scope you have on it , seems to fit and look good on it , not sure what to go for the walnut or the Laminate stock 🤔 decisions too be made i think.
Thanks for your reply about the scope Richard, not sure about the laminate due to the black cheek piece, going to solware next week, either way I'll be leaving with one .
Any chance you could get hold of a kral puncher Knight synthetic black please? It's not reviewed anywhere on UA-cam uk so you would be the one and only.
Thanks Carl. I believe I am right in saying that it is possible to double load. However, a couple of points on that: 1) in my experience, most double loads occur when you're not sure if you properly cocked the action - i.e. you pull the bolt/sidelever back enough to probe a pellet but not cock the action. Then, when nothing happens, you cock the action again and probe a second pellet. All that usually happens when the cocking action, be it bolt or sidelever, is not very smooth. The sidelever on the R12 is like butter and I think it's unlikely to run into the issue described with it. 2) you simply forget that you have cocked the action, so you cock it again. Paying attention is the cure here! The R12 has an 'action cocked' indicator. My bad but I don't think I covered it in the review. Basically, a small window on the side of the action shows white when the rifle is not cocked and red when it is. I hope that helps.
Rich I don’t know if you’re still checking these messages. But I’m considering one of these vs an Air Arms 510s regulated. Accuracy is my number 1 priority. It’s your money, which would you choose 🤷♂️ Or anything else at this price point.
Hi Bog Z. The S510 R is a fantastic rifle. It really is. Reliable and very accurate too. The R12 CLX Pro is probably as good. I've shot them both but not side by side and wouldn't hesitate to have either in my gun case. The R12 will give you more shots and has a thumbhole stock. In all honesty, I doubt you'd be disappointed with either rifle. The only way to decide is to get into a shop and pick them both up if you can. Hopefully one will simply feel more right that the other. With these two rifles you really can let your heart rule your head. No bad or wrong choice here.
Richard can you help me to buy this airgun and get it in Holland in 177 the carbine version Or you no what company send it to Holland Thanks for your very nice video again
Hi Kees. JVS Outdoor is BSA's distributor in The Netherlands. Their website doesn't show the R-12 but I'm pretty certain that they just haven't updated it. Good luck. Rich. www.jvd-outdoor.com/
I se them now but the have crazy price for the R10 so I think for the R12 is more crazy !! It’s not possible from England to send to Holland I not need the power 16 joule it’s ok for me. Thanks for your time
To add: Compared to the older action types, this one shows a rather short barrel clamping piece, which I would dislike especially with longer barrels fitted...I guess the one tested is the shortest of the carbine versions, except for the Ultra models ?@@airgunextra
Can you of any one offer advice .I’m looking to buy my first PCP rifle and I’m considering the BSA R 12 or the AGT VIXEN 177 long ,what do you think . Thanks .
Hi. Both are great. Very accurate and well made. Obviously they differ in terms of style - one a traditional sporting rifle the other tactical style. The R12 also has a bit more adjustment in the stock. The only way you'll be able to decide is to pick both up and wee which one appeals to you more. No wrong decision though.
Hi Richard, i get my R12 tomorrow but unfortunately there's been a mix up at my local gun shop they have no more 177 in , so lm going for a 22. But what i want to know is you said in the super carbine ( the 1 im getting) the shot count in 22 is 260 per fill, is that from 230 bar down to 90 bar ,????
Hi Gary. Lucky you! BSA quotes 260 shots for the Super Carbine in .22 calibre. That will from the 230 bar maximum fill down to the regulator pressure threshold - 90 bar sounds about right. BSA's figures are quoted using their 14.66 gn Goldstar pellets. Heavier pellets may give a slightly different figure, but still plenty of shots. Enjoy your new rifle.
I'm looking for a light weight CPC for my 14 year old daughter to start some field target shooting. Could you please recommend anything suitable? She's using my old Webley Raider 10 at the moment, and it's a tad heavy lol! Many thanks!
Hi. Have you had a look at the Kral NP-03? It's reasonably priced, shoots well, and most importantly for kids - it's light, looks cool and has an extendable stock so it will fit her well...
Good morning, being new to the sport I have been watching all your vids, I must say well done on the content and great information you supply. Hi Artie. You're making me feel even more guilty than I already am! You're right though. I've been busy with writing for Air Gunner and Airgun Shooter magazines, and recording films for Airgun Action and The Airgun Show. But I do have a few reviews lined up. Is there anything you'd like to see us cover?
@@airgunextra Thankyou for the prompt reply , sorry I didn’t mean to make you feel guilty , I do very much realise the time and effort to put together the shortest of vlogs/ vids etc I’m new to all this and just enjoy a general view of all you put out I’ve just invested in a sightmark wraith 4k and a hikmicro 10 mm monocular for rabbits and ratting on the permission I have secured , this should arrive tomorrow , I have a question for you , I have a BSA R10 , will the rail the wraith sits on fit straight onto the 13 mm rail on the BSA , or will I need an additional bracket ?
@@Artimus128 Hi Artie. Sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel guilty about making me feel guilty 😆. I believe the mount on the Wraith is designed for a Picatinny rail. So you'd have to get a dovetail to Picatinny adapter. I'm not sure which model you are thinking of but if your budget can stretch to a Pard DS35 70 LRF I'd strongly recommend it. It's excellent during the day and at night already has the IR torch integrated into the scope. The real bonus though is that it also has a laser range finder (LRF). Shooting in the dark, the hardest thing to deal with is judging distance to your target. The LRF function is very easy to use and takes the guess work out of any shots you take. There is also a very easy to use ballistic calculator function which will automatically adjust the point of aim to suit the distance you are shooting over. I'm based in Reading and if you are anywhere nearby you'd be more than welcome to come and have a shoot through the Pard and a few other night vision scopes I have.
@@airgunextra Thankyou very much for the advice I will take that onboard , and also the invite to try out , sadly I’m a few miles away from your neck of the woods in North wales , but maybe one day you never know , Thankyou for all the helpful advice 👍👍
Yes, two magazines. I didn't try it (for obvious reasons) but I do not believe there is an anti-double load feature. That said, the sidelever is so smooth and precise the only way you're going to load two pellets is if you're not paying attention to what you're doing, which is obviously not a good thing when guns are involved! There is not carbon bottle option, but a carbon bottle is only an aluminium bottle wrapped in carbon, so it's a looks thing rather than a weight saving thing.
@@airgunextra Thanks for your quick reply I think bestfittings would disagree with your interpretation of a carbon bottle as there is a weight saving over the aluminium all the best phat
@@airgunextra Carbon bottles are lighter than steel bottles, that's why they make them. The carbon bottle I fitted on another rifle was 400g lighter. It all makes a difference.
@@markl4670 I got a CF bottle for my S10, it was heavier than the 200cc bottle. The weight saving i was looking for didn't happen!. It was larger than the 200cc bottle & the only size available from Best fittings. A pointless upgrade, for me at least.
Hi Darren. Yes, but I agree it's been a while. I have a few lined up. Not much of an excuse, but I've been busy writing for the magazine and videos for The Airgun Show and now Airgun Action. Let me know if there's any rifle in particular you'd like to see us review...
@@bigearl8687 The R10 was good for around 26/27 ft lbs, though that's not a lot of help because the R12 is a different rifle altogether. I expect BSA will release details on high power models soon...
My experience of owning an R12 . Has been poor . With numerous quality issues and a recall . I had a full refund from my RFD and purchased an Air Arms S510 ultimate sporter R , which is just amazing in comparison.
@@airgunextra Hi Richard . My replacement R12 was working fine . However , the recall was the final straw for me. An insider had mentioned that the reg … could fail. Soo swapped it .
With the steel bottle, looks like a mid range priced rifle and the rubber cheek piece is revolting, this gun priced at that should have laminate or walnut cheek pice depending on what stock you go for and a 400cc carbon or 480cc carbon bottle, then it be more different, I pass on this one, BSA With there R series of files needs too loose that steel bottle shite
Hi Neil. Not sure if you missed it, but it's an aluminium bottle, not steel. And carbon bottles are aluminium wrapped in carbon. We're all entitled to our views of course and it would be arrogant of me to think that my view is the only right one, but I like the black soft touch cheek piece. You might also have missed that there is a 400cc bottle option as well. Thanks for watching.
If what you say all carbon bottles are aluminium wrapped in carbon, then this bottle on the R12 needs too be replaced after 15 years from manufacture because I know all Rifles with carbon bottles have a life span of 15 years and has to be replaced so the rifle is considered too be safe, as you said all carbon bottles are infact aluminium under the carbon wrap, so all aluminium bottles have too be replaced after 15 years, because you said all carbon bottles are infact aluminium bottles
@@neilcopeland4411 have you tried squeezing an aluminium bottle they don't budge but you can depress a carbon bottle because they have a thin aluminium bladder inside so that could be why they have a 15 year lifespan just my opinion and i could be wrong maybe someone on hear knows better.
@@airgunextra my airwolf fac came with a 500cc metal bottle and changed it for carbon 480cc and the difference was unbelievable, would be worth it for the shot count alone
All well and good until it came to the accuracy test. Very average, maybe its doesnt like those pellets, i dont know but at 30m i wouldnt be happy with that for the cost.
Bit expensive, the mags I've never liked , for that price it should had a anti double pellet load system, the gauge cover is something else to lose , should have carbon fiber bottle for that price bracket ,
We're all entitled to an opinion of course, but personally I found the magazine to be great and I doubt you'll lose the gauge cover - I certainly didn't in nearly a month of testing the R12. It's very hard to double-load the R12 because the side lever is so smooth and easy to operate. Although that is no help if you are prone to double loading because you don't pay attention. Carbon bottles are aluminium bottles with a carbon covering, so no real weight benefit. And at a little over £1,200 I think the rifle is well placed given the price of its competition.
@@airgunextra I’ve never ever had a problem with bsa/gamo magazines simple to use and very reliable. No messing around putting pellets in backwards etc
Sorry to hear that, but I don't think that qualifies for such a sweeping generalisation. By contrast, I've two R10s, a Superten and have R12s. None of them have ever developed a fault. Plenty of other rifles have, but none of my BSAs...@@martinsmith2984
Sorry your very wrong, lost count of people at are club that have had reg issues with there BSAs, so not sweeping generalisation at all, You said there tested for 100s of hours, so were other previous models in there range, yet they had issues, Just because you get free guns and gear you gloss over the real issues BSA have with all there rifles.
I guess that depends on how high you can count Martin. And sorry to disappoint you, but I don't get free guns or gear. Every rifle reviewed on the channel is loaned then returned, or bought by me. The fact is that you can name any brand of air rifle and someone will tell you a horror story. BSA rifles are not immune to that but they are better than most and I believe provide good value for money. What do you shoot with? I'd love to know the only make of air rifle that has never had a problem.@@martinsmith2984

Inconsistent accuracy, shooting groups ok then 4inches off high/ low , then grouping reasonable then all over the place again 🙄.
@@airgunextra Thanks for your reply 👍 keep posting
A lot better than my air rifles costing me between 1700 and 3000 pounds and less than half the price superb value
The fill probe is quite loose on my sons BSA Scorpion. It still fills and shoots fine though.
Yep that looks good.
This or the R10 th?
Both great rifles. But I'd go for the R-12. Thanks for watching.

@@redpillnibbler4423 It's a great one to start with. Are you thinking .22 or .177? I've heard there's an issue with the .177 which is being addressed so there may be a delay in ordering.

.177 of course (just my luck) 😅 What’s the issue?
@@airgunextra
I’ve researched the issue, apparently bsa still haven’t resolved it even though its a relatively easy fix so I’m holding off buying one and looking at other makes like Daystate S510/Daystate Revere, though ideally I’m after a higher shot count.
Try using JSB Jumbo Exact pellets, BSA's cold forged barrels love em!
I found BSA Gold Stars to be the best, perhaps unsurprisingly.
@@airgunextra who makes them?
I will let you know what I think of it when I get it Richard, can i just if you don't mind what scope you have on it , seems to fit and look good on it , not sure what to go for the walnut or the Laminate stock 🤔 decisions too be made i think.
Hi Gary. It was a BSA 3-9x40 30mm scope. The laminate is a beauty...but then so again is the walnut!
We'll add it to the list Mike.
Great show, can you tell me if you can double load the R12, thanks
No one seems to be talking about the lead ban proposal which could spell the end of our sport 🤷♂️
Did I imagine it?
Unfortunately you did not. But until some decisions have been made, timescales clarified nothing can move forward.

But I’m considering one of these vs an Air Arms 510s regulated. Accuracy is my number 1 priority.
It’s your money, which would you choose 🤷♂️
Or anything else at this price point.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated 🙏

We'll add it to the list! Thanks for watching.
Hmm... Standard or super carbine? 🤔
Can cylinder be replaced with carbon fibre 480cc bottle
No, but there is a 400cc aluminium option. 'Carbon fibre' bottles are aluminium wrapped in carbon fibre.
Dose it come with 2 magazine is it anti double load and is there a carbon fibre bottle option ?
Are they going to offer this in an fac model
I expect so at some point Derrick...
Why is the shot count different if the bottle is the same size Richard?
Hi Carl. I believe it's down to the length of barrel. Longer barrels are more efficient in their use of air...
It seems a shame that they haven't gone with a carbon bottle.
Hi. A carbon bottle is an aluminium bottle with a carbon wrap. So apart from the looks, there's no real weight saving. Thanks for watching.
@@airgunextra I'm aware of that, but aesthetically it looks dated without a carbon bottle. That's only my opinion though. Good review 👍

@@neilcopeland4411 Hi Neil. I think most manufacturers recommend changing before 15 years in fact.
@@neilcopeland4411 have you tried squeezing an aluminium bottle they don't budge but you can depress a carbon bottle because they have a thin aluminium bladder inside so that could be why they have a 15 year lifespan just my opinion and i could be wrong maybe someone on hear knows better.
Ffs bsa fit a carbon bottle the difference in balance alone transforms the rifle never mind the huge shot count from a 480cc carbon bottle
I doubt there'd be any change in balance. A carbon bottle is an aluminium bottle wrapped in carbon, so not much difference in weight.

All well and good until it came to the accuracy test. Very average, maybe its doesnt like those pellets, i dont know but at 30m i wouldnt be happy with that for the cost.
Perhaps we're just not up to your standard of shooting...
Stock obviously the same , bigger bottle
Except it's not. And then there's the new reg, sidelever, safety catch, magazine, mono block construction...
