I like the natural look of the maple, but the darker espresso stain is nice, too. Natural feels more casual and the darker leans more formal. The rugs and molding are traditional so perhaps consider the overall vibe you want and determine if you want to continue to lean into formal or if you think you have enough of those elements.
Mineral spirits neutralizes the "good" paint stripper that contains all the "bad" chemicals. However, using mineral spirits means exposing yourself to more "bad" chemicals. The plus side to using mineral spirits, is that sometimes it acts as a preconditioner (works best on pine). Side note, pine does not make the most durable long lasting furniture. Oak, maple, walnut are better choices. I did not realize that the chairs were made of maple, in the beginning of this project (previous videos). Maple is definitely one of the most difficult woods to re-stain. Maple is a closed grain hard wood. If I am staining new maple for a project, I either avoid stain all together and just go straight to a clear coat finish, or I go dark with something like a walnut stain. Better yet, just build it out of walnut and clear coat it. Keep up the good work. Your tenacity is amazing. I would have given up and painted them. If you do decide to paint them, check out Black Sheep House on UA-cam. I would probably go with one of her "dupes." I would recommend her pottery barn dupe. By the way, the volume level for your voice and background music are at the perfect levels in this video. Tim, having an opinion will just give Rose ammunition to use against you in the future. You are better off getting yelled at (in the present) for not having an opinion at all. Rather than being blamed for something in the future (more like eternity), because you stated your opinion in the past. May I suggest phrases like: I love you honey, and I will love whatever solution you come up with. Or, I support your decision and I think you are doing a great job. Or, huh? what? did you say something? I thought you were talking to the camera...
I love the idea of mineral spirits. I keep seeing it. I just can’t seem to find it in California…. I’ll keep looking. By the way… Tim loves your advice. He says “that comes from a man that’s been through it.” 😂😂
@@RoseRenovations I keep forgetting that you live in California. Paint thinner is almost chemically identical to mineral spirits. Paint thinner is not the identical twin brother of mineral spirits, but it is definitely it's brother. Paint thinner would be great for cleaning your brushes. However paint thinner is not my first choice for neutralizing paint stripper, or pre-treating wood to accept stain.
The chair you’re sitting on is my favorite…..just paint the backs of the other chairs to match that one and shine up the wood with varnish and leave them be.
I love that one too… the only problem is it looks much nicer on camera than it does in person 🥴 so the wood is stained all unevenly underneath so the raw wood isn’t cohesive enough. I would have loved to do that though!
Paint it white but only 1 coat and it will hug the designs with a deepened white shade giving a vintage look. After it dries you get some light maple shining through on the flat area's and the much sought after vintage white on the designer craftsmanship😊 Staining can occur with paint, just believe😁
I think the dark stain with a cream coloured caning would work with both walls and the table (I assume) you'll be pairing them with. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Personally, I probably would have given up and painted them by now :)
I hope I am not giving more options. I like the natural maple with just a clear coat but the dark looks nice too. I think leaving the caning the “matching color” would look best with both options.
I deffo think dark is better with the white walls. Tbh if I was you I’d be painting them black by now hahaha. I love the growing thing! I want one now. Will be great to grow some stuff over winter.
That last color looks remarkably similar to.......the color you started with! 😳 haha. There are auto paint stores that can mix a rattle can to whatever color you want and you could paint them with sprayed laquer paint. Shouldnt look like dog poo...... Thanks for another great vid! We messed around with hydroponics back in the day but found it was easier to buy our "kale" from the brother of the guy that was the clerk where we bought our papers. haha. Have an amazing week!
As far as a stain color for the chairs me and my personal style I would look in gray family, like a warm toned gray .. it would stand out, but without looking out of place…. But i think black and gray go with EVERYTHING lol
When you’re using a chemical stripper, after it’s done it’s thing scrape, wipe off or whatever with any excess then you can use Mineral Spirits with some extra fine #0000 STEEL WOOL to neutralize the stripper as well as scrub… it beats having to carry them to and from the tub to spray & scrub…. Hopefully this tip will save your SPINE and sanity lol and probably some time as well…. Love your channel and your chaotic energy ❤
So let me get this right... you buy multiple cans of stain, open and try them all, and then take used cans back to the store? What do they do with them? That seems incredibly wasteful and borderline shady. Do you tell them you opened them and actually used a little bit?
It’s actually a pretty normal practice. Of course I inform them of this. People return things like paint or stain all the time. The thing is, this doesn’t impact the integrity of the product like it would for things like food. So they just put it back on the shelf.
I love the espresso color with the cream! It's a beautiful and timeless look. It also would look nice against your walls
I really appreciate that! I think I’m just going to go for it then.

I think you might be right 🤔

Reggie got a haircut! Looking good
He did! I dropped him off at the groomers for the first time and I told her to have fun! He came back with a lion cut. I love it!
The darkest color stain looks great. With the lighter cane together with the dark stain it’s going to awesome. You are on the right track ⭐️
I very much appreciate that. I’ve been pretty self conscious about it. Reading this really helped with that :)

0_o I’m going to have to look into this

Hahah thanks! I have considered giving up many times… I’m still very close to that

I like it too. Only problem is it’s super uneven. The camera doesn’t pick it up very well :/ I totally wish I could do that!

Black might look really nice…. 🤔 I love my growing thing! I had the exact same thought. Year round veggies

Thanks for the advice! That’s funny that you get your kale through him!
I wouldn’t use tap water…maybe distilled would be better. Beautiful chairs.
🤔 I wonder if it would remove the gunk better

Hahaha that’s a good point!
You could try using Retique It
I’ll have to look into that!
I love the dark stain with the cream back.
I really appreciate that! It’s starting to grow on me

Oh my gosh you may have just saved my back! Thank you!
You have to buy the stain outside of LA county.
That amongst other things…..
@@RoseRenovations peneofin is the best commercial stain. Stop wasting your money and time.
