Some captain spam for all the damage : Starsector

- I enjoyed my time with Starsector, there is a lot here in the combat that I could work on. The colonies we have formed are thriving and we are making a fortune. Our fleet is able to take on even double Remenant fleets, though it is a little tense at times. I'll be back.

When my gf heard the outro, excluding the hysterical laughter the only thing she wailed was "WHEN DOES IT END!"
This happened before I uploaded the video and I still did not remove it, I think I may have been born with too little embarrassment,
Oh my god that outro was amazing!
Absolutely brilliant thanks for that!
basically my reaction as well.
No embarrassment mate, bit of fun and when your personality shines it is fantastic
Put a smile on my face early in the morning. Thanks Francis!
I hope that this outro is now the default one for every series.
I loved the sound of a bottle uncorking.
"Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my men at them until they reached their limit and shut down." Excerpt of Francis "Brannigan" John's "The Remnant Wars"
So sad to see it end. Thanks John. I learned a lot from watching you play Starsector. Even tried experimenting on my own
You know, I wasn’t really feeling the Outro music… Until now. That, was amazing
that outro made my day HAHAHAHAH this is great , you're great . thank you for this series , always liked starsector but it was a bit overwhelming for me and you helped me start ut a new run that is going better then ever!
that outro at the end was amazing.
That whiskey pop was perfection
The real charm of the Odyssey is using it in melee - hit enemy engines with emp, shields up and plasma burn right into them, then watch them fly to the back of the map helplessly to be dealt with later
31:06 The innocent laughter of a child playing. This is what we live for.
"Experience piñata" needs to become a standard term, imo.
The "beep beep" sound during combat when notifications come in, is the same sound the Stellar BiPAP machine makes to alert an error. Playing this game with sound on would get people moving in a thoracic med. ward.
One of the best outros so far!! Love it 😍
Only thing missing: smacking on the cork 🤣
the last second of the whisky pop was just perfect!
Loved the “enhanced” outro. 😝
Thanks for the playthrough Francis, that outro was amazing.
Thank you for amazing outro. 10/10, made me smile after coming back from work.
Nice series.i bought this game when it started and have been really enjoying it, your releases came about just as I would find myself stuck. With all those ai cores it would have been neat to get the automated ships skill and use your own captured remnants since they all use ai core captains. I only have 1 battleship and 2 drone carriers so far but they perform really well and it feels nice to fight remnant with remnant
The Easter Egg at the end of the video is gold
Loved the outro and the likely whiskey bottle getting popped open ;)
00:00 Corona Hypershunt
05:54 Fusion Lamp
08:00 YOLO into 2 remnants
*or is it YEET, w/e*
15:05 Captain Levelling
19:43 Farming XP Pinatas
24:30 Captain Level Maxxing
25:33 Cattle Bruiser Fit
"calming green: perfect, it reminds me of necrons!"
Very calming indeed...
That last second of the credits was awesome! sláinte!
Also that end of the series fan theme song sung. That is so classic!
Beautiful ending - well worth watching through the end of credits.
And just like that, The Green Lantern Corp is born... Who knew? 😁
So, FJ actually did play the "Good Guys" this time 😅
Regarding the Hypershunt and not being able to do it in multiple trips, ... you can actually do it in multiple trips by using the option to stabilize cargo dropped in space.
(it may or may not drain all your supplies and make you unable to move...)
Oh, nice work around. I never used the stabilize cargo option before, this would have been a perfect chance.
"You're interfering with the assembly line of your murder " OMG I love it and the outro too.
We so need an Alestorm version of this outro :D
Thanks to you I've changed around some of my builds for more inclusion of ion weapons. Scarabs instead of 4 IR pule lasers are now 2 IR pulse 1 ion, now also 2 laser PD in the back as they've always had problems with fighters. With much higher venting than flux generated from heat and weapons, they seem to charge after enemy ships more and seem to do much better with it, disabling the engines of the smaller craft. Medusa redesign still in process, for AI control will be a support role only with 2 ion beam, 2 light autocannon or 2 light needler, 2 IR laser or empty slots, 3 PD laser (still high flux usage). Either one will beat a hammerhead 1v1 but the scarab is far quicker about it, stays right it's engines blasting away. I've already seen the medusa keep enemy cruisers disabled for other ships to take down.
EMP does make a big difference when dealing with the larger targets, I'm loving that we outnumber them so much they can't keep their shields facing every direction and EMP hits get through.
That outro was such a great end to the series :)
with the last song you earned your pay :D
LOOOOOL The outro... Claps on u Francis
This has been a fun series to watch ^_^
oh my god the outro. that was amazing bro. :D :D
07:40 Francis John's colony worships Nurgle. That answers alot of questions, actually.
Love your content. Awesome ending 👍 🎶
A legend and a gent. Keep it up!
What an interesting play style you got. Really opened my eyes to the other side of the game that I don’t usually focus on, you should definitely try out an more hands on play style where you control a ship personally, that makes the game much easier as player controlled ship completely dominate ai if you know their behavior, especially phase ships. In you next series I recommend installing the mod “Light Show.” It gives the different type of lasers different colors so you know what you are being shot by at a glance(high intensity laser is bright red etc).
I did not want to get into doing the combat myself as that way lies madness. I figured it's not nearly as much fun to watch, half the fun I find is working around the janky AI.
oh my god! i loved the outro so muuuch!!!
Just informational at this point, your AI cores reduce that 10 resource requirement to 9 for volatiles/transplutonics.
I noticed that later, very nice little touch by the devs.
This outro is distilled gold
This game is like if Space Rangers had a baby with Mount & Blade and it then aquired affinity for complicated 4x mechanics growing up.
4:30 And then one day an AI had a realization. "This would be a safe place to live, grow and call home." 😉😊
the outro had me gasping for air lol
Have you looked at including a few Afflictor frigates in you fleet? They'd be a way to make use of those officers with field modulation and their ship system increases the damage a target takes from all sources by 25%. Some of the other phase ships have similar ship systems, one of them forces a target to overflux and leaves them dead in space for a few seconds.
Would you be willing to do some testing on Fragmentation weapons and prove whether or not they treat a ship as armored once you strip it's armor off?
considering the amount of cargo capacity you have with those 2 Atlases it may be worth you having more than 30 ships in your fleet. Going up to 35 ships slows your fleet down a lot, but only increases your supply consumption by about 9 per cycle so if you can carry around enough supplies it's manageable to have excessive fleet sizes.
Frag weapons are fantastic once armor is gone, and some of them (Dual Flak, Cryoblaster... ESPECIALLY Cryoblaster) do a good job ripping off armor and getting into the meaty bits even with that 75% damage reduction.
You can just adjust the fleet size in the json file, not just for you also for much more fun for the AI fleets.
Another option is to capture the [REDACTED] Battleships and install alpha cores on them instead of using captains since alphas
How many remnant ships can you use effectively in one fleet? I heard if you use too many they preform worse
Best outro ever
I liked the battle at 13:42, finally some challenge
That ending tho! Aweome!
Awesome outro!
Thank ending was beautiful! Haha
I've gotten hooked on using Vanguards, a touch more expencive than a brawler but they're basically mini-eradicators, think ball bearings with guns. They have all the same basic advantages of a brawler rush but can stand up to some serious punishment and with the setup i'm running rarely go down in a fight and if they do they are almost never destroyed thanks to the built in rugged construction and added reinforced bulkheads, brawlers are cheaper and more common and with the luddic variant seems can be built really aggressively with extra guns thanks to built in safety overrides. But because it has no shields the vanguards spend more time just soaking and spitting dakka which is their whole point, flux is basically a non-issue for these vessels because they can easily flux off their guns without any extra vents.
favorite drunken Francis
Praise be Oscar Nieves
Something I found by accident; with your frigates, if you click 'deploy' more than once on each ship, it gives you the option to left/right flank deploy.
I'm going to have to play with that, never did figure out how to flank.
Remnant is more descriptive of what is left over after you fight that.
Have you tried several apogee? They are surprisingly tanky. It could also be that I've gotten better at ship building or can't go way over flux with it since it doesn't have that many forward mounts.
The Apogee is interesting as it's the cheapest large missile mount you can get outside of the Atlas Mk2, but it comes with way more survivability. I am curious to see how a swarm of them would do.
I never really used them much till I was exploring and had 8 of them. Half long range, half short range. It was working better in random combat than my previous groups of pirate eradicators. Having so many squalls has to be the difference. There is so much more pressure. I have not gone up against remnant with double radiants but I have had no problem with single ones.
Awesome ending :D
I came up with a similar swarmy approach just with different ships. Tempest + phase lance + high scatter amplifier+ helmsmanship + energy wep mastery + a capital ship with nav relay and point defenses. Zippy little buggers very hard to hit , swoop on deal 2500+ energy dmg / hard flux to shields/ an dance out and can deal easily with fighters too.
I heard good things about the tempest but I also heard they nerfed it pretty hard recently making the drone much weaker.
@@FrancisJohnYT Yes the drones got nerfed so their kill pressure got weaker a bit but the fact that they confuse the whole enemy fleet like fighters do your ships and do hard flux makes them still viable , just a little control is needed to keep them as a swarm, if they go 1 on 1 on larger ships the time to kill gets to big .
Time to hire someone to make the outro a real thing
Would be interesting to see some omens mixed in with those brawlers, probably wouldn't be as good, but it is fun watching them nuke everything with emp. I also didn't know you could exceed your captain limit with mercs. o.0
Mercs do cost story points, but there's no limit on them. Well, one limit: your wallet and ability to keep up with their (thankfully, flat) SP costs
I can farm 2 million experience from fighting two redacted fleets at the same time. That is 2 story points. Do that four times and you can keep 8 mercs for two years. Might be possible to run a full 25 captains if your willing to do a lot of killing every year.
A game I'd love to see you play is Crusader Kings 3.
Gunnery implants has less effect on fixed hardpoints and you only need so much ECM to max out at 10% so its probably not worth having on brawlers which have all fixed hardpoint weapons (as opposed to rotating). Not positive if it has less effect or no effect at all, since fixed hardpoints already reduce recoil on their own.
remnant fleets usually have like 20-30ECM so you need a lot if you want the 20% range advantage from the start
Our fleet does not really need to counteract their ECCM as we fight so close but I want to do it to spite them.
Best ending ever XD.
Wow with a song too!!
I basically wiped out the hegemony, but they still send ai inspections with what little junk ships they can manage to get ahold of.
You got to wipe them all the way our, root and stem. It's the only way to get peace from their constant harassment.
@@FrancisJohnYT dude I spent 150k in fuel bombarding their planets they just won't die
@@DARKthenoble Did you do the gate quest line yet? Until that is completed their home planet is required by the quest and it cannot be decivilized.
@@FrancisJohnYT so I have to deal with benthesda style bullshit...
Have you tried captain of industry yet? Definitely one that you would like if you haven’t.
Do you have any thoughts of doing a clanfolk playthrough?
Have you ever looked into X4: Foundations? It is similar to Starsector but more expansive in scope. Especially in regards to trading and station (colony) building.
I've played all X games since the first one so I'm not sure what it would look like with fresh eyes.
I'm not too into dogfighting so I always avoid combat until I've made enough money (trading, station building, etc) to buy or build my own fleet.
Being able to land on your own capital ship in the middle of a big battle, walk onto the dock and look at the battle from there is really something.
I played X2 a lot, also put a few to many hours into X3 AP. Never got around to X4 yet the reviews were a bit meh when it was released.
For colony management, it's probably always worth investing story point improvement into the patrol/military HQ for extra patrols. Double the allied ships in-system is a big help against pirates, luddic path and invasions which are a much bigger source of lost income than an extra 1 stability, 20% accessibility or +1 production.
Just have one extreme heat planet in the system and put the cryoarithmetic engine on it for 100% fleet size increase. Over 400% fleet size is really more than enough for an unmodded game.
And if you just have a hot planet you can throw an orbital lamp on it.
best outro
awesome outro! thanks @francis and @oscar
Awesome series!
Lovely sound at the very end. Care to share the brand of the whiskey you opened? :)
Just a bit of Connemara I had lying around.
For your next Rimworld playthrough, have you considered a multi-ideoligion colony? For example, The miners could be the tunneling ideology, and the animal handlers could have the rancher ideology. It could be really powerful if the colonists are not too bigoted lol. Might be really good content to have two very opposite ideologies living in the same colony. (Animal vs Human supremacy) (transhumanist vs flesh purity)
Challange: Only Point Defense on your ships.
Also start to look into the mountain of mods for the game.
Not really a challenge, it is more the secret to build absolute overpowered ships because they mostly have absolute insane dps with extreme high efficient flux costs per damage.
Add point defense elite skill to the captain(200 more PD range), beam weapon range mod(forgot the name but pretty sure it is a vanilla s-mod)have the upper hand in ECM rating and your fast destroyers will shred through enemies without even building up flux.
If you want some ideas to go back to Rimworld, here's an idea. I've been hiring as many ascetics as possible and I've been accumulating lots and lots of gold. When the tribute collector shows up, I buy lots of honor and then I make sure they get downed before leaving the map so I get all my gold back. Basically, I'm massproducing ascetic counts.
Nice idea, the hard part would be getting enough ascetics. But we can work around that. That would mean that every pawn can call down an aerodrone strike.
@@FrancisJohnYT I’ve have just been caravaning from place to place raiding camps and settlements and I’ve so far encountered enough ascetics that my gold won’t cover them, but if you can’t find enough you can always overstay on an enemy tiles like you did on your trigger-happy series. I’ve been pretty lax about research so I don’t have long-range/ground-penetrating scanners. I got most of my gold from trade.
If you're using Odysseys, why not stick Wasp Interceptors in the two bays per capital? 6 fighters per bay, and only 5 OP. That should mollify any enemy fighter advantage.
I played around with that a bit but they tended to not get much damage in and just died a lot. So I used the points for more vents and survivability for the cruisers.
Love the outro
please do moded playthrough next
the outro aged well
Get two "monitors" and some of those emp ping pong ball ships they'll break the game
by the way, since this is last episode of Starsector, did you ever played Endless Sky ? kinda similar game, but with a bit worse, simpler game mechanics and a LOT better storyline.
Cant wait to see what will be next, personally I'm hoping for Rimworld or Kenshi :)
Were you ever able to find a way to farm the 512's? after a week of trying I only got one of them.
@@ahmataevo I would farm them in Mesuket, a battle there can grow to a massive size, and you just nab disabled ones. but personally i think 349 is better. just use a singe ship with good shields + hull mostly, engines secondary and defensive weapons only, on lowest priority.
So how about a break down of the weapons in the game? Also nice outro
Who the hell is this good lord Randy??
"Randy Random" is a difficulty level in the game Rimworld. Unlike all the other "story tellers" they do not have a set pattern. They might do nothing for ages or they might hit you with several diseases and multiple raids in quick succession. So blaming Randy is really just a form of personifying random chance events with a name so we can blame Randy for what's happening.
Where did u get all the Odysseys? Illegal arms merchant? I am playing vanilla.
I made them myself as I found the blueprints, but the illegal arms merchant sells them for 600k.
If you need money knock out kaptain starworks orbital works with marines for 100 days or so, then you can sell supplies to three of the pirate bases at hugely increased prices. Assuming you can get the supplies for 100 credits (you need about 5-7 thousand supplies) you can pull in 700k-800k if you hit up all three bases. The prices reset every month so you can just keep doing it.
@@FrancisJohnYT thanks for the advice. I haven’t advanced enough to have a colony produce an Odysessey
Askin how to increase the speedup mod's speed. I'm stuck at 2x
Got to the speed mod folder, find the SPEED_UP file, open it up with a text editor, do a search for "speedUpMult":2.0
Change the 2 to what ever you want the speed up to be, I set it to 3, I tried 5 and it was a bit much.
Be aware their are other speed setting for different hotkeys I did not touch them.
@@FrancisJohnYT Thanks!
Singing - really? 😂🤣👍👍👍👍
Sometimes I get an Idea in my head and unfortunately no one comes along and tells me how bad an Idea that is.
good series! *-*
Is there a list of the mods you used somewhere?
Mods listed in the description.

More Rimworld Please! 50+ Jealous/greedy Praetors all giving conflicting edicts.
The factory must grow?
I'm going to have to dust off that save.
what's the setup for the Odissey?
I'll be putting out a tutorial later today that covers it. Need to remember to put in time stamps.
Wait.... the Necrons are Irish? Or are the Irish Necrons? I'm so confused.
Cool game!
Jajaja are you a master
wonder if your fleet could kill the dragon
The dragon? I know about the Dorito's and the combo Dorito/Radiant quest bounty fleet but nothing about a dragon.
@@FrancisJohnYT its special ship added in star federation mod and its hella strong probably strongest ship i have ever seen in starsector tbh.. Rarr posted video where he killed it in stupid way six days ago xd
too bad the captains cannot die in this game. Even a 50% death chance would be motivation enough for a more focused and tactical play style.
Neat. Mind checking out captain of industry? It's a nice colony/factory builder, if you're in for something new
