Every time you give us a thumbs up a Narwhal gets its horn! (maybe..)
Let’s not forget how the movies gave all of Ron’s cool lines that shows his true character to Hermione and how the movies made Ron comic relief instead of making him the great character that he is.
Because Hermione is a girl and the world needed to see a smart girl in a franchise. The world would've screamed if they saw a girl with not many helpful moments. She's a smart girl and a quick thinker, but it doesn't do justice to Ron if his lines are given to her.
you said movies' twice
@@tfahad2051 LoL no.
The first movies director was an outspoken Hermione Fanboy, and after he left the project the other directors had to follow the standard of Hermione being the most important character.
@@MidoriNatsume Lol, Hermione being the most important character? Keep thinking that.
@@tfahad2051 That's how they made it lol
Things movies missed out from books: that first year Ron at 11 years old must've written a letter to his mum, asking her to make Harry a sweater and some extra presents when he realized that Dursleys wouldn't care enough to. Think about that, they're 11 years old, only known each other for a few months, Mrs Weasley just met him for a moment on the train station, but those presents are without doubt the first step to Harry becoming part of the Weasley family. Ron isn't just Harry's best friend, be becomes the brother Harry never had before.
Allis_O in the chapter “19 years later” they do actually become brothers in law
true unless you believe my theory that Harry and Ron may have possibly been just possibly more than friends except obviously this has been completely still this has been shut down but still I support it
Maybe it was off screen
Not to mention in time the rest of the Weasley family becomes the family that Harry never had. Except for Percy for Books 5 and 6.

Yeah, they really dumbed him down in the movies. He's much smarter and more skilled in the books. That makes him the same as...
Gimli in LotR.
In the books he's legit just a normal kid. Average skills, but amazing at chess.
In the movies he's a hopeless blubbering mess.
Ron brought Harry the family Harry never had.
This is the perfect answer. Harry's life without the Weasley family would have been a whole lot more miserable. The guys were the brothers that he never had. Molly was just as good of a mother as anybody could have ever asked for. The fact that she gave Harry that pocket watch which was originally her brother's is very telling that she considers him to be one of her sons.
Felonee Webster My sentiments exactly!

True.
@@SnowyWolborg Love that Harry married hes sister! Keep marrige in the family!
Ron Weasley and the whole Weasly bunch became family to a boy who was an abused orphan and gave him the support and confidence to achieve his ultimate destiny. Not everyone is a a flashy, amazingly charismatic person in this world. Some people are quietly awesome, sincere and true. That's Ron. He may be a second fiddle, but the song wouldnt be the same without him.
I think it’s really important to point out the family aspect that Ron brought to the table. He was the only one that would have been able to provide a normal family that could love Harry for being Harry and not only The Boy Who Lived.
Ron did good things that have good actions but I still can't stand his personality or half the things he says to certain characters
Grounded? Harry lives in a cupboard under the stairs for Gods sake. He is a house elf.
@Lama Alharbi he was neglected though, which is a form of abuse; he had to live in a cupboard, was treated very differently from Dudley (who treated him as his personal punching bag and the parents didn't exactly put effort into stopping it), insulted all the time, abandoned at a busy station at 11... i mean, the only reason they didn't kick him out was because dumbledore practically forced them to let him stay until he became of age, and then he was promptly abandoned...

I don't think Ron stopped talking to Hermione because her cat wanted to kill his rat. He was angry because Hermione never took him seriously when he said Crookshanks was after Scabbers. She kept bringing her cat close to Scabbers when Ron very clearly asked her not to, and even when it looked very much like the cat had killed the rat, she still acted like Ron was being unreasonable and never took responsibility for her cat. That made even me frustrated with Hermione.

Oh my god, RIGHT?! I mean, that’s basically the moment Hermione lost her touch for me.

Yeah that's how the books did it. Sadly the movie doesn't elaborate on that one. The movies was a big dissapointment if we're talking about Ron.
@@LizLuvsCupcakes seriously that's the moment I would have thought you'd lose touch with her back when she fell in love with Lockhart
The movies cut out all of Ron’s useful attributes and gave them to Hermione.
I mean, the first book has him figure out and instruct Hermione how to get out of Devil’s Snare, reminding her she has magic and can burn it (which she forgets in a panic, as a muggleborn probably would). The movies reversed that scene entirely. The mechanics of how to get out of it, the characterization, everything-a 180 spin.

UltimateKyuubiFox agreed! And along the same lines from PoA it's Ron, standing on a broken leg, that tells Sirius if he wants to kill Harry he'll have to kill them too
UltimateKyuubiFox such a stupid descion, why would J.K. Rowling help butcher her own character?
Exactly! It happens all the time in the movies.
UltimateKyuubiFox hey they took out Harry’s smart ass comments and the fact that he figured shit out on his own sometimes. Also the Weasley twins were hilarious during the books I wish that was in the movies too.
This is largely feminism at play and an early version of debilitating men. People forget that in the books the three balance each other because they all have flaws. They intentionally made Hermione very Mary Sue in the movies because they needed a "strong female lead!". which is pretty stupid in a movie about a BOY wizard and his support role friends--one of which happens to be a girl. It's gross and it's why I'm not a big fan of the movies. Rowling is a huge supporter of it and it's very disappointing given her original ideas.
Book ron is pretty dang important, in every book.
Movie ron is only important in years 1, 2, and 7.

I personally am more of a Luna
I think in addition to being the lynchpin of the trio, I personally think that he represents a 'street smart' while Hermione represents 'book smart'-ness. For instance, with the devil's snare in the books, Hermione says that it hates light and wishes she had some matches with Ron having to remind her that she's a witch and can literally produce light from her wand. See also the slug incident where Hermione doesn't know what a mudblood is and when Ron stands on his broken leg to protect Harry from Sirius (an action they give to Hermione in the movies). He does SO MUCH MORE in the books and generally in the movies if he does something, they move the action to Hermione.

In the movies: Ron is pretty useless after the first movie.
In the books: Ron is awesome

Ron is awesome and helps Harry and Hermione a lot
In the movies after Sorcerers Stone the only thing Ron does is destroy a Horcrux in Deathly Hallows part 1 and gets Hermione and himself into the Chamber of Secrets in Deathly Hallows part 2
Ron is my favorite. Not a the smartest, most perfect at age 11 or the literal chosen one who does almost no wrong. Ron is relatable, and he's the one who grows the most and reacts the most realistically every time. He is also the bravest, because he gets scared a lot, and bravery is action in spite of fear, not the absence of it.
Lestat220289 how could you say Ron isn’t so smart 😳
Infact, 1 of the only characters in the Harry Potter franchise/Lore that is more terrified than Ron. Is Ben Copper in the game Hogwarts Mystery(please do not destroy me for this. It is a Pottermore game, at least to my understanding)

How about a video on the parallels between the friendships of Harry/Ron and James/Sirius? Harry and James are represented by stags as their spirit animal while Ron and Sirius are represented by dogs as their spirit animal. Plus, James opened his home to Sirius to escape his abusive family like Ron did for Harry.
Tasha9313 Wow.
Mind blown
Blimey!
Patronus. Not spirit animal. Patronus.
But Ron isn't a very sirious person.
To me the sweetest thing Ron did was that during the first year he told his Mom that Harry probably would not be receiving many or any gifts for Christmas and asks to sent him some as well. And also him coming to the rescue after Harry not responding to his letters in COS. This is when we see that Ron is Harry's support system, a kind and true friend, who despite his occasional jealousy cares deeply for his friends and their well-being. He is a very realistic character and it's a shame they removed that from the movies.
would I always find interesting books always stressed out Harry had more money than Rhonda's and yet the books also always stressed that Ron's pile of presents at Christmas time is always bigger than Harry's which probably comes from the fact that he has a larger family but still I never get why they always pointed out I'm into something Harry might notice once or twice but it's comes up literally every time Christmas comes up at Hogwarts anyway not during the deathly hallows because that Christmas is well weird

Exactly. Hermione would have died an old maid if not for Ron. And Harry perhaps would have died alone, again, if Ron didn't befriend him. He endured Hermoine's annoying temper, and Harry's annoying mood swings...
@@poulomi__hari I would consider Hermione as the opposite, Harry only had mood swings because he literally had part of Voldemorts soul in him. Ron was not patient at all, he got jealous and mad when Hermione got a date and Harry was accused of the goblet of fire, he was rarely there when his friends needed help, although he was extremely important in the story
Let's not forget that Tonks credits Ron with saving her life in the Battle of Seven Potters.
exactly
I don't feel Ron is pointless, he was the first choice Harry ever made.
Make friends with someone who reminds Harry of Dudley, or make friends with someone who he sees himself in?
Ron is the character that gives people a sense of realism. He's the one that's not financially stable like a lot of families in the real world, and he doesn't have a "thing." He's an outcast, with his best friends being the best wizards you could think of and his family outshining him in many ways, he's like a lot of us. However, he's loyal and trustworthy, and without him Harry would never know what it feels like to have a family. Ron also brings Harry and Hermione back to reality when they can't think straight, he's the glue.
pastel tears and to plus on a little Ron looks after Harry and Hermione when they are to busy saving the world and they forget to look after themselves
yep i thing thats why Harry has a problem talking to hermionie sometimes. Though she is his Otehr Best friend she is still not his best friends as long as Ron is, with ehr becoming his otehr BF after Halloween 1991. Also isnt it in the book so that even though tehy talk to each other when tehy have problems they will always go to Ron first ( though they propaly happy when in Harrys Case Hermionie and in her case Harry is already with Ron so that they dont have to tell it twice=
pastel tears spot on!
Ron will always be the useless git IMO - he does NOTHING for Harry - except run away or get jealous. Ron is a coward - scared of spiders, scared of snape, scared of everything!!
SereniaSaissa That's no where near true. Ron may be afraid of a lot of things, but lets not forget how he volunteered to be tortured instead of Hermione in the last book. And when they still took Hermione, all he could think about was getting her back. He even screamed her name knowing very well he might've gotten killed for acting like that. Ron deserves WAY more credit than people give him. And he's like a brother to Harry. He gets jealous because Ron's always in his family and friend's shadows. I'd be the same way. But Ron was there for Harry for as long as it took.
The entire section in DH when Ron leaves till when Ron returns just shows elementally why Ron is needed. He keeps Harry sane and make Hermione happy. Harry is always happier when Ron is around him because they are so in tune with each other. And Ron is the only one who is able to make Hermione laugh. Harry is never able to do that. Both of them need Ron to function at their best, just as Ron needs them both. Also, needless to say there are numerous occurrences where Ron has contributed crucially, either in terms of saving Harry or Hermione's life or figuring out something that needed to be resolved.
Hear! Hear!
Even more interesting is the fact that Dumbledore *knew* exactly that Harry needs his friends. Which is more of the reason why he entrust Ron his best invention, the Deluminator, to him so he can find his way back.
But that's not right. If a good friend leaves, you will feel sad. If Hermione left, Ron and Harry would not have been very happy and sane either. Because they would have missed her a lot
not really because when ron left they werent as happy before but they still were fine on their own and ron makes hermionie laugh with his stupidity

When I gave the books to my then new boyfriend to read (yes, the conversation started "What do you mean you haven't read Harry Potter?!"), he immediately fell in love with Ron. He watched the movies before the books and with every passed page he was telling me how Ron is awesome, how they did him completely wrong in the movies and how he seems to save the day all the times.
Ron has witty answers to everything, he is kind, he is true fried to Harry, he most of the time doesn't mind staying in his shadow and silently supports him. In Goblet of Fire it eventually grows on him, but he explains wizarding world to Harry (no, not Hermione - ponting at you, movies!) since the beginning and as much as Harry wouldn't complete the horcruxes task without Hermione and her brains, he equally wouldn't be able to complete it without Ron, who gives him everything that Hermione doesn't.
triquetka The movies were extremely biased against Ron. They make him out to be a bumbling oaf/comic relief character, when in actuality he was fairly intelligent in his own right. It’s through him that we learn about the statute of secrecy, the ban on dragon breeding, and a slew of other random tidbit’s that neither Harry or Hermione even know.
So true.
It’s so sad how they portrayed Ron in the first movie, because if he was cool in that movie, he would be set up to be as cool as he was in the books. I think the scene in the philosophers stone movie that made him seem more helpless that in the books was the devils snare scene, where hermione has to save him from it. Hermione in the movies just took all of Rons good attributes and gave him the silly comical character, who didn’t really work as one because the twins are already amazing and hilarious.
IKR he was one of my favourite characters in the books
And he told the spiders he didn't wanna tap dance
Harry and Hermione would have never stopped Voldemort or even survived in the Philosopher's Stone in the magical chess game without Ron

ok then TRUE HE’S VERY SKILLED
That’s _TOTALLY BARBARIC_
ok then that is good for ron

Leave don out of this!
I think Ron has a couple advantages Harry and Hermione don't. Due to Ron being born into magic, he's got so much history and titbit type of info on the wizarding world Hermione won't find in a book. That's turned out to be helpful. Also, I think Ron is the most socially skilled of the three. He's neither a famous young boy who everyone puts on a pedestal, nor is he a nerdy outcast like Hermione. I think his social skills are an important factor to the group's success as well. Ron is the heart of their group, that makes him valuable as a character.
You know there is a fanfiction about the Golden Trio time traveling to the era of the Founders of Hogwarts and in that story, Ron seems to be quite similar to the book character. Maybe something you would like to read if you haven't already. It's called Strangers In Another Century.
I'm cringing that you even bother to ask this question, Ben. Thank God, you concluded that he was not, in fact, pointless.
Also, I feel like you brush over some things to make them appear less flattering towards Ron. "He wins a chess match", more like he wins a chess match by choosing to sacrifice himself for his best friend and for the wizarding world at eleven years old.
"He crushes the quidditch game because Harry manipulates him into winning." Way to take the credit away from Ron. Harry helps Ron believe in himself long enough for him to show what he was capable of all along. It's still Ron's accomplishment.
"He loses his mind and abandons his best friends" Woah, I can't believe this is still up for debate. It was explained in the books. He meant to step out of the tent, storm off like we all do after a big argument, and then come back after cooling off. He just forgot about the whole enchantment, in the heat of the argument, and got stuck out of the charm bubble thing. And he cared so much about going back to his best friends, that he would hear Harry and Hermione's voices whenever they spoke of him and then a freaking ball made out of light grew from his heart and showed him the way.
Ron is flawed, like you said in the conclusion, but that just makes him human. He's been there for Harry through so much, he's offered him a family. And even though he felt jealous of his best friend (because he wrongly thought that his own mom didn't care about him like she cared about Harry, he thought the girl he loved preferred Harry too), he was still willing to protect Harry at all costs. He wanted to sacrifice himself in the first book. In PoA, he stood up on his broken leg to protect Harry from who they thought was a death eater and wanted murderer by saying "if you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too. Did you hear me? You'll have to kill all three of us."
Later in the books, he reaffirms their friendship by telling Harry that he could count of them, that they would follow him in his quest to find the Horcruxes and kill Voldemort. And there's a lot more that I'm not even mentionning here.
He also returns to save Harry from the frozen pond when Harry is pulled down by the horcrux trying to retrieve the Gryffindor sword.
And let's not leave out the fact that Harry could be a horrible friend to both Ron and Hermione. He was verbally abusive, dismissive of Ron's issues, and at some points just mean. But Ron stuck by Harry's side risking his life and opening his home. The way that Harry reacted to Ron being chosen as a Perfect is very telling, So it drives me up the wall when people questions Ron's merit. Ron had every right to leave, he is a human being who had his own issues to deal with.
Ron didn't tell Harry about Slytherin house, *HAGRID* told him at Diagon Alley.
And Hagrid never told Harry how to get to 9 three quarters. Molly practically yelled about 9 three quarters when they are in kings cross. Then, the bloody friendships began
No Ron didn’t. But he lured Harry into Gryffindor

Whenever someone tells me that Ron is pointless, I always ask them to imagine the Harry Potter series without Ron. After all, if Ron is completely pointless, then his presence shouldn’t matter. But there are a few problems in a Ron-less HP series.
1. Family. Arguably Ron’s biggest contribution to the series is that he opens up his family to Harry. One could say that Ginny, Fred or George could have easily have done so but let’s not forget that none of them are in Harry’s year. F and G spent more time pulling pranks than wanting to be friends with Harry and seeing that they are both each other’s best friend, it makes it hard to have an impact on Harry. Ginny comes a year later by which time, it might be too late to imprint on Harry’s character. At 11 years old, Harry needed a best friend who was constantly with him at all times. Taking out Ron means taking out the Weasleys and without a family, Merlin only knows just how Harry might have turned out.
2. Harry’s character. Harry is someone who has a rather angry temperament though to no fault of his own, seeing how much pain he had to go through. Ron wears his heart on his sleeve and is no pushover when it comes to arguing. Without Ron there to support and challenge Harry at times, Harry often feels miserable and empty as seen in the two times that Ron isn’t around. Even with Hermione around, Harry still feels depressed as compared to the third book when he and Ron were against Hermione in the Firebolt incident. In that incident, we see a rather guilt- ridden Harry but one who was not so much in misery for not having Hermione by his side. Hermione is extremely important to Harry but as in the fourth book, it is Ron who Harry would miss the most.
3. Formation of the Golden Trio. Imagine having no Ron during that first train ride. Hermione wouldn’t be at odds with him and thus, wouldn’t have been crying in the bathroom. Would she and Harry still be friends without a troll to fight? Hermione, in her first year, admitted herself that she was unable to make friends and her know-it-all character back then made it hard to do so. The troll incident was thus crucial to the formation of the trio which couldn’t have happened if Ron and Hermione hadn’t been fighting in the first place.
4. Hermione’s character. I laugh every time someone tells me that Ron would become abusive to Hermione. Remind me again who set birds on whom and who is better at casting spells? Nevertheless, Ron is the person that Hermione needed for her personal growth. Hermione, at a young age, was accustomed to being right and that led to a form of pride that can be annoying at times. Ron was the guy that brought her back down to earth. With Ron constantly bickering in her face, it prevented any form of hubris from growing inside of Hermione. Yes, Ron is insensitive and immature but he was also very honest about his feelings and he treated Hermione as an equal rather than a Mary Sue. Ron is also highly protective of Hermione and can be seen defending her against Draco, Snape, Sirius (when he was suspected to have killed James and Lily) and at Malfoy Manor. She does the same for him as well. Add the fact that Hermione falls for Ron and vice versa, nothing else needs to be said.
5. Plot wise. Ron is the one who beats the chess task. The one who helps Harry break into the Chamber of Secrets (thank Merlin for that broken wand). The one who brought Scabbers to Hogwarts, allowing for Sirius’s innocence to be revealed, helped Harry countless times not only on missions but in life as well. Not to mention saving Harry from drowning in a lake. Ron is also important in giving information about the wizarding world to H and H.
6. Can’t be replaced. Just like Hermione, Ron is irreplaceable when it comes to the HP story. A lot of fanfiction have Neville going in place of Ron which works in fanon but not in canon. A timid and meek Neville who only comes to his own in the last two books would not be a suitable replacement for Ron.
I could go on and on but at the end of the day, we must give Ron his due. Whether you like or hate him, to say that he was pointless meant that you really don’t understand HP. You can question the character of Ron all you want but his importance, especially as the second most-mentioned character in the book, is undeniable. Kudos to your video! Love it by the way.
P.S, as you can probably tell, I am a Ron fan. I love Harry and Hermione as well. Ron is most definitely NOT just for comic- relief and it pains me to see how the movies have depicted him.
Ron is amazing and I loved him in movies without reading the books first

Ahem, all right, but Hermione was better at casting spells. And I love Ron too, how can I not love Harry's best friend 🤗..but my favourite character is Hermione...the golden trio is ❤️
Ron isn’t completely useless
•Ron destroyed the locket
•Ron stopped the troll in the first movie/book
•Ron gave Harry the idea to give Norbert to his brother
•Ron found Nicholas Flamel on the chocolate frog card
•Ron got them into the chamber of secrets in the deathly hallows
•Ron picked Harry up in the flying car
•Ron tells Harry almost everything about the wizarding world on the train
Eugene Krabs no, Harry gave Ron the idea to give Norbert to Charlie. It happened as H: Charlie. R: You're losing it, too. I'm Ron, remember? H: No, your brother - Charlie. We could give Norbert to him!
Allows the Weasely family connection as well
Harry found NF on the chocolate frog card, not Ron. But you forgot Ron beat MCGonagall chess board.
Ron was the only weasley who resented his financial situation 😂😂you should meet Percy
Let’s not forget that by book six, Fred and George certainly didn’t resent THEIR financial situation haha
Ronald Bilius Weasley is a damn treasure. Haven't even watched the video yet but just felt the need to make this statement
Helena Kristins hilariously, bilius sounds like bilious, which means 'of or pertaining to bile/vomiting'. Well ..he DOES like to bellyache.
Harry didn’t manipulate Ron in The quidditch game. He just gave him a confidence boost, which means it was all Ron and his mind.
i call a placebo manipulation
That's the literal definition of manipulation. He tricked/deceived him into doing something.
Mark Hogan he didn’t not physically manipulate him at all. Ron had all the resources there, but one tiny situation made them available.
+Nic David
physical manipulation would not be manipulation.
for example.
you want someone to kill someone else. if they refuse you hurt them untill they do it. that would be physicall manipulation
true and smart manipulation would be filling the persons heart with hate of your target and giving him/her hints that "it" could all be solved with the targets death.
that was a "voldemorty" example. now lets get back on topic.
if harry forced ron to train every single second of his free time then that would also be physicall manipulation.
but he made ron think he was lucky "filling his heart with confidence in this one" which was true manipulation. the person doesnt realize they are being manipulated.
But the thing is, he tricked him. Ron thought he saw harry put the potion in his food, therefore he thought he could do it no problem. And he does. Harry manipulated Ron into doing well by tricking him.
I think one of Ron's biggest contributions to the story is that without having that friendship with Harry, Harry would have never met or gotten close to the whole Weasley family, who are arguably his greatest allies.
Greatest allies? No, Dumbledore, McGonagal, Hagrid, Hermione, Lupin, Sirius and even Snape were greater allies.
@@spirittammyk nope you also relize watch the movies he saved harry twice once from the troll and 2nd from drowning in deathly hollows part 1
Hermione takes so many of Ron's book moments in the movies because Steve Kloves is disturbingly obsessed with Hermione.
Exactly. And Steve Kloves wanted Harry and Hermione to be a thing. That's why the kiss of them in DH (the Horkrux locket kiss) was even better shot and longer and more passionate than the real kiss between Ron and Hermione at the end.
He should of just left Ron out and have it be Harry and Hermione! Even JK Rowlings thinks she made a mistake creating Ron.

Ron was the only one who had to use their siblings old stuff instead of getting new ones. I mean, if my memory works as it should, he only got his own wand because he broke the secondhand wand he got from a family member at the beginning of book 2. You would be complaining about your family's financial situation as well in that scenario.

Agatha Derry *ya right there*
no.
The movies undermined Ron to give more Hermione moments, and Harry moments. That was unnecessary. They all shine uniquely, and it was their friendship that saved one another.
In the books and movies I was so heartbroken when Harry and Ron would fight and celebrate when they got back together.
TIFFANY PERSAUD and they do the same with Hermione and Harry. For the most part book Harry does what movie Harry does but something, like the dragon in DH, are given to Hermione. Harry is known for his nerve and they give that to Hermione to make her seem cooler to people who can’t appreciate who she actually is.
I don't see the problem.
Someone: Is Ron pointless? Would the books have been the same without him?
Me: Did Draco fall in love with his apple so much he married it?
Someone: No
Me: Exactly!
correct
Ron is the person that shows harry that love still exists in the world. Without that Harry would not have compassion and friendship and love. Exactly the things that Harry needed to beat Voldemort.
tkimins great 👍🏼 👏👏👏👏
And left him 😂 when he needed him
Why does Ron get so much hate? :'( Probably because of people who have only seen the movies.
The movies ruined Ron, they shamefully neglected his good qualities and turned him into the comedic sidekick, except when he's an asshole. They really highlighted his asshole-ness. For example:
Prisoner of Azkaban-book Ron: (in DADA class that Snape is substituting, where Snape mocks Hermione for being an insufferable know-it-all) "You asked a question and she gave you answer! Why ask a question if you don't want to be told?" (defending his friend)
POA movie-Ron: (in DADA class that Snape is substituting, where Snape mocks Hermione for being an insufferable know-it-all) "He is right you know"
POA-book Ron: (in the Shrieking Shack, where Sirius Black has revealed his true form and is trying to hold of Harry): "If you want him you'll have to go through us too!" (as he's standing on a broken leg while Hermione whimpers in the background)
POA-movie Ron (in the Shrieking Shack, where Sirius Black has revealed his true form and is trying to hold of Harry)"...wha? huh?...flub?" (as he sits back whimpering without any clue what's going on while Hermione suddenly turns all badass for no reason)
There are so much more examples of what the movie took away from Ron and gave to Hermione, making him yes, completely pointless in the movies.
Because he's painfully average and boring as a character, without any particular intelligence. (he has skills in chess and as a Quiddich Keeper, but that's it)
Yep. Because book ron is awesome
because it's popular right now among the far left feminists. It's gross sexism and vomit worthy
+Kalli Maynard
How is it sexism? If Ron were female and written in the exact same way I wouldn't dislike the character any less.
Just pointing out, even without Ron saying the line about bad wizards coming from Slytherin (whose line originally came from Hagrid in the book), Book Harry had already already met Malfoy at Diagon alley and on the Hogwarts express and already didn't like him. And Draco was sorted before Harry (alphabetically), therefore a big part of Harry not wanting Slytherin was so as not to be stuck with Draco and the rest of the 'unpleasant looking' lot at the Slytherin table. I always got the impression Harry (at that point) would have been fine with any house other than Slytherin.

Me, reading this title: "Exxxxxxx-cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-se Meeeeeeeeee?"
Also uuuuh NO, Harry and Malfoy are not opposite. They're actually pretty similar: just because Draco seems to have a family, doesn't mean he has any that even resembles what the Weasleys are (awesome). Ron and Draco are the opposite: Ron's dad has values and is mocked at the Ministry, Draco's dad has no value and is loved at the Ministry. Ron's dad is part of the Order of the Phoenix, Draco's dad is a Death Eater. Ron has plenty of brothers and a sister, and was not wanted by his mother. Draco is an only child and is adored (in a weird way) by his mother. Ron's family is poor. Draco's super rich (and since you pointed that out, BOTH characters are pointing it out several times). Ron is a pure Gryffindor. Draco is a pure Slytherin. Ron's family looses A LOT and sacrifices a lot for the War, while Draco's family just runs away from the fight at the end of DH. Both are pure blood, yes, but they're actually the epithome of nurture over nature. We know that Tom Riddle is Harry's opposite and not Malfoy. Actually just like Draco vs Ron, in Harry vs Riddle we have the same "kind" of upbringing (as an orphan, not knowing the wizarding world and their inheritance) and yet opposite outcomes: again, nurture over nature. That's the whole idea of the books, the whole philosophy of the HP saga: we CHOOSE who we want to be. Where we come from doesn't matter! And Draco is basically the "failure" of that message (hence why JKR doesn't understand why soooooo many people worship Draco).
Now for the things that make Harry and Draco very similar: both come from filthy rich families. Both have Slytherin's traits. Both are good at Quidditch and are competitive. Both are good at DATDA. The only difference they have is regarding their upbringing and because of what? Oh yeah because DUMBLEDORE had a hand in Harry's. Draco is the dude that Harry COULD have become (kinda like James, and I think even Harry himself make the comparison between his own father and Draco!) had he grown up in the Wizarding world smh I thought that was super obvious. That's exactly why when McGonagall is like "nooot these muggleeees" at the beginning of the first book, that Dumbledore is like "it's necessary". That's also why, coming to Hogwarts, the first choice that Harry has to make, reflecting to his future house (and possibly his future as a whole) is who to choose between Ron and Draco as a friend. Slytherin vs Gryffindor.
Also while Ron is insecure because of his background regarding his mother and the way she treats Harry while it's so well-known that she didn't want Ron because she wanted a girl, Draco is just freaking jealous of Harry. He's *not* insecure.
And I can't believe anyone would discuss Ron's use in Harry's world. It's the first time Harry ever belongs: with a friend and with a family. The Weasleys become Harry's family and I can't believe how ungrateful the HP fandom is to them. Molly and Arthur Weasley are the first people to show Harry some love and to give him food at their table like an equal. These sandwiches that Ron give him are the first thing anyone shares with Harry. So YES it IS important to Harry and the whole creation of who Harry is gonna become as a wizard. Like, I'm sorry, diminishing Ron's entire emotional role in Harry's life by pretending that DRACO (uuuuuuugh: facist, racist, bully Draco...) of all people could have played that role too, is just horrible. No-no-no-no-nooo. It's clear that Harry would have been a totally different person had he "chose" Draco over Ron. Now let's not forget that Ron really wanted to try and see if he could participate in the Three Wizards Tournament. And that he was mostly mad at Harry for managing to "trump" Dumbledore's spell and put his name in the Goblet of Fire without telling him how he did it (or even telling him he did it). And something you kindaaaa forgot to mention (weiiird umm...) is the fact that even mad at Harry, Ron was the one who came up with the idea to tell to Harry about the dragons on the first trial and even at that point he understood that Harry was in danger and he wanted to help him (and be on his side again). But Harry was too thick (and tbh kinda arrogant, so sure that Ron was just jealous of his success) to understand that so he lashed out once more at Ron. Ron vainquished all his fears for his friends, several times. He stood up, injured, against what he thought was a serial killer at 13 yo to protect his best friend. He walked into a giant spider's nest to support his friend and save Hermione's life. He broke the law at 15 yo to help his friend to save his godfather. He left his whole family in times of war, right after his home was attacked and he didn't know if his family survived or escaped, to try and go in a desperate chase of unknown objects with his bestfriend, at 17 yo. He lost a brother, got another one bitten by a werewolf, and another one crippled, for Harry, so ummmm? If y'all think Ron is useless I'll gladly take all your Rons and make them my friends!
omfg yesss thank you for writing this. it makes me happy that someone views it the same way i do
There was one very significant negative point about Harry that people tend to ignore is that Harry genuinely believes he is better than Ron. He likes to pretend otherwise but even he admits it. When Ron is made prefect Harry is consumed by anger and jealousy. Ron and Harry are evenly matched in studies so the only reason to make Harry prefect over Ron is because Harry is the chosen one and he has a special bond with Dumbledore, Harry has an inflated ego and that makes him more like Draco. Ron is the most human of the trinity, Harry is just born special and Hermoine is super human genius but Ron IS US, most of us in life are just average just getting by trying to do right by our friends, right by our family, trying to survive in a world plagued by insecurities but amidst all that you have to be the best you can be, hating Ron is like hating ourselves WE ARE RON.
Well I agree on almost every aspect you have to think personality wise this is where Ron and Draco sort of come together you have to think that is family wise and what they were raised to think. Both Draco and Ron are very sensitive and jealous easily both have a love for quidditch as well as have knowledge for the wizard world and have joined a group to support there view point and it just happens to be opposite view points

Before even watching this video: Ron is the strategist, the common sense voice of reason who gives Harry and Hermione all the background information they lack about wizarding culture. He’s the heart, keeping the team positive and motivated, and both Harry and Hermione feel something acutely missing and wrong when he isn’t around to balance their intensity. Ron is Harry’s best friend, with all the emotional depth and fun and standing up for each other that entails. Anyone who thinks Ron is useless is wrong, and could probably use a reread of the books. Ron hate is just a function of movie-only fans not knowing better and shipping fans liking evil Ron as a plot device to further Drarry or Dramione. The fandom has been flooded with Ron hate for years and it is old news. We know the answer. He always comes back for his friends. This video never needed to be made.
Ron hate is mostly cause Harmony never happened. The fandom you're talking about with the shipping, they know Drarry and Dramione wouldn't happen. Harmony though, even Jk Rowling herself got herself backtracking later on and said she "should've/could've" done it instead of Hinny.
On the statement that this video never needed to be made... I thought it was a pretty nice tribute to Ron. :)
And now someone’s watched the movies more than they should. Do you even remember the books? Ron wasn’t just angry because Crookshanks seemed to have killed Scabbers, it was because Hermione never took responsibility for her cat and even after telling her to not bring that thing near him she still brought him everywhere. Second, if Ron wasn’t a character then how would have Harry gotten to Hogwarts? Yes he could’ve just written a letter but he wouldn’t have because we know in that moment he didn’t think of it. If Ron wasn’t a character then Harry would have never gotten through the chessmen in the first book. Rob also wouldn’t have been able to get the sword of Gryffindor in the lake in “The Deathly Hallows”, which would’ve meant the death of Harry. If there’s any more examples or I got something wrong please let me know.
He also made that fraud lockheart forget he memory (in a way)

Ron is a definitely useful character, in the books at least. The movies.... man. But Ron has always been my favorite; I’m the smallest of my family, and is often treated like a child, so when I read the books, I expected to love all the characters, but I mostly liked Ron (and Hagrid and Luna). He’s relatable to everyone, especially when you don’t have a Ron, and he’s the kind of Gryffindor I am; an unconventional hero (he’s the hero in the case, I can’t come up with a better word), that actually has flaws. I think the reason Ron gets so much flack is because he has many human flaws that hit too close to home to many viewers and readers. And no, I don't mean superficial flaws. I mean the ones you recognize in yourselves and people around you. That's largely, IMO why many have a harder time taking to Ron.
In the books they're pretty balanced. The trio all has flaws and strengths. In the movies they kind of gave all of Ron's great moments to harry and hermione and gave ron those twos shittier moments. You could argue, in the books that hermione is the most flawed of the trio.
@@fenixchief7 agreed. Ron was always my favorite of the two friends in the books. But they ruined that in the movies. They gave all the exposition to Hermione in the movies. The writer was even interviewed on that. His favorite character in the books was Hermione.
Its also cause the movie version... the version most people remember best... cause most people don't read or only read the books once cause I mean reading is a time commitment., Take rons strengths and gives them to Hermione.

- He flew him and Harry to Hogwarts in his father's car.
- He indirectly warned Harry about the dragons.
- He won the Quidditch tournament.
- He destroyed a horcrux.
- He helped him and Hermione get into the Chamber of Secrets.
and was essential to Harry in terms of friendship. he was Harry’s family
How did you make a video talking about Ron's usefulness and not mention his family? Harry gained a mom, dad, tons of brothers, and a wife/sister(lol) by knowing Ron. As someone who has gained a spot in 2 families from tight friendship, this is worth a LOT!
So, basically, Ron was nothing more than a plot device?
Because he was talking *specifically* about ron
spirittammyk Certainly not. He was a best friend and a “brother” to Harry. I doubt Harry would have gotten through his years in Hogwarts emotionally if it wasn’t for Ron.
that would be against the very point of this video. the biggest issue with ron is that many people view him as exposition and the gateway to the weasley family, and that he himself is unimportant, if not a negative force in the golden trio. this video shows that ron himself, aside from his family and wizarding background, is of extreme import.
First when the books released, Ron was everyone's favourite because he was so funny and Harry was a sad boi and Hermione a smartass, who even Harry found insufferable sometimes.
But Hermione was a favourite of the screenplay writer of the films, so she literally got a badass edit (which she definitely deserves) and of course you can't cut out Harry Potter out of Harry Potter so by default Ron got the short stick (read goofy idiot who likes to eat a lot) and Hermione got a lot of Ron's lines because she is so smart, she must have read it in a book.

Could a fictional story been written without a supporting character... obviously yes, but Ron played a key role in every year in the series... but Ron directly saved his life in the forest of dean saving Harry from drowning... just 1 example there
Severus Snape was close by, as he just conjured a patronus. I think he would have saved the boy-who-lived if it was truly neccesary.
Ron is the reason Harry becomes a Gryffindor. So that's already important in its own right. They didn't even need to be friends anymore afterwards. You could've replaced Ron with Neville.
A lot of these types of stories have three characters who come together to make a whole and are essentially: the brains, the brawn, and the heart. Ron's the heart. Buffy has the same set up and the show The Good Place does too. In fact, the three brothers of the deathly hallows is kind of the same thing: the guy who makes the smart choice, the guy who makes a choice with his heart, and the guy who makes the choice for power.
This is debatable but I feel like Ron is the brawn and Harry is the heart. This is because Harry can perform really advanced emotional magic, like a patronus, even when Hermione has trouble with it because it is based on emotion instead of knowledge. Harry, like the second brother, said he would want the resurrection stone which is the emotional choice. I think that Ron is the brawn because he is always the first to fight someone, like in philosophers stone when he punches Malfoy, and he also says he would want the elder wand which is the powerful answer.
Being fair.... the fact that they had to go up against the MOST POWERFUL DARK WIZARD IN HISTORY makes reaching for the elder wand a pretty brainy choice. Doubly so cause he spent 2 years with literally the worst wand he could have possibly been given. Its a miracle he managed to get that thing to work at all.
Ron is a moodmaker... without him, everyone's gloomy
Of course not. I feel like he usually gets overshadowed by Harry and Hermione. The best example is Albus and Aberforth. Aberforth is by no means a weak wizard, he can cast a Patronus, he can charm goats (whatever that is) but when you compare him to Albus, he probably can't hold a candle.
Same thing with Ron, he can also cast Patronus Charm just like the rest of them, in fact, he did all the classes which Harry did which means he got Exceeds Expectations in DADA, Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology and Charms which by no means is bad. It's just that he didn't have as many badass moments as Harry and Hermione and hence we never got to see his talent.
But he should be most talented but Ron is least. He grew up in wizzarding world. Harry grew up under the stairs in his aunt and uncle's house in muggle world. While Hermione parent loved her she grew up in muggle world and had some issues started muggle school which is why she's drawn towards outcast.
Ron has a lot of purpose and is necessary for the book. What’s obvious? Introduction to Weasley family, chess, saves Harry from drowning, teaches him about wizarding world, is the glue of their group, etc. However, there are less obvious things. Say Draco and Harry becomes friends (which, yes, could have been possible and who says it’s not beyond the scope of the books?) and Harry is a Slytherin. He is ambitious, which is a big quality of Slytherins, but also brave which made him a Gryffindor as well. In this case, Voldemort would have won. The Malfoys would have found out, and even if Draco doesn’t submit to pressure, or excruciating torture, his mind could have been read. Additionally, Harry wouldn’t have been able to pull out the Gryffindor sword to kill the Basilisk in CoS, made the connections he did, and would later have been crushed because he was a Slytherin but his parents weren’t. He placed a lot of importance and admired his parents, remember.
Second, Harry and Hermione wouldn’t have become best friends. Yes, she went to the bathroom because of Ron. Yes, they could be friends. It is very unlikely they would’ve become best friends. They wouldn’t have faced a life threatening danger together, which the book directly states forms an unbreakable bond. Second, based off the books (I never watched the movies), Ron was the chattered of the group, Harry and Hermione were more quiet.
Third, Ron was more or less Harry’s brother. They form a bond Harry would be unable to have with Hermione. No, this is not because of gender. It’s because of how closely Hermione follows the rules. Many times you see Harry and Ron wanted to do something dangerous with Hermione trying to stop them before ultimately joining them. Being safe isn’t a bad thing, of course. But Harry and Ron are both adventurous, likes to dramatize, woo girls, have been neglected in some way, and it’s safe to assume that they are both each other’s first best friend or even close friend
As for his flaws, he is a human, plus is going through puberty. He is insecure because of his siblings and his social status. Everyone is like that. He is there for Harry and Hermione when needed, and is loyal. Yes, he ran away in book 7. But question yourself, can you say with 100% certaincy you would have stayed? A teen going against most of the world and the strongest villain alive with no plan and no one they can surely trust aside from each other? Probably not. It’s easy to blame him but put yourself in his shoes. Harry and Hermione also show human flaws. For example, Harry blows up and screams at Hermione and Ron for not telling him anything even they could not, or Hermione being mad at them for not asking them to the dance. Think of all the moments the group has had, ignoring each other when one of them could easily apologize first.
Ron hasn’t had a lot of things he could call his own, and has a lot of expectations on him. Plus, he has a family to worry about. Ron has more to lose. Think of Harry when Sirius died and how he reacted. Hermione doesn’t have to worry as much, her parents are muggles as she already took measures to give them a level of safety.
They are humans, who aren’t even adults, you can’t expect them to be perfect and emotionless robots who always make the morally or logically right decision.
If you want to debate(debate not argue, no insults or cursing or anything that isn’t related), feel free to comment below and we can talk. I have only read the books and haven’t seen the movies,so keep that in mind.

That's exactly why he's the glue. When he stops working, the Golden Trio all falls apart. Harry and Ron can be alone and have a good time. Ron and Hermione can as well. Harry and Hermione together ends up awkward.
We need Ron to have the whole Weasley family. Harry needed to feel welcomed not just because of who he is. I think being loved and welcomed by Ron and family was the core to Harry’s protection over everyone when Voldemort initially kills him.
If you ask me, Ron is the best character in the books and one of the best fictional characters ever written. It’s a shame what the movies did to him.

He says that in the video...
Ironically, he later talks Hermione in opening her own Chamber of Secrets for him. That parsel tongue must be made of silver.

In the books Ron was the one who explained aspects of Wizarding society to Harry and Hermione.
Yes. And in the movies, those lines were given to Hermione, because the screenwriter Kloves loved Hermione and could explain this change as "because she's so smart, she's probably read it in a book".
@@awsome182 The screenwriter Kloves totally knew Hermione is the book stand in for the empress JK Rowling who had a direct influence on whether or not he keeps his employment. There is this very telling interview with the both of them when she says something like " I am so happy that Hermione is your favourite character because she is so difficult to love. I kind of agree with you, but when Harry was first transitioning into the wizarding world, Ron helped Harry adjust. You're right Hermione helped Harry with batteling and fighting monsters, but Ron helps Harry become the wizard we love. Ron helps Harry transition and is there for him (most of the time). Ron tries to protect Hermione, that shows compassion. Ron is Harry's best friend, he helps keep Harry sane.
I want a Ron.
I have a few best friends, some of whom are more Ron-y than others, but they're all scattered at this point in my life, and none are with me right now.

Well the immediate reason that comes to mind as why Ron is NOT a pointless character would be how he affects and shapes Harry's life from the day they met on.
What about when Ron and Harry take the Weasley's flying car to get to Hogwarts in the 2nd book? If Harry hadn't befriended Ron, he probably couldn't get to Hogwarts that year.
He wouldn't have been away if Ron didn't exist
Knight Bus, returning Weasley Parents or any of the other parents(needing to enter through the portal implies you need to exit through the portal), send an owl to the school, get to Diagon Alley and ask someone for help etc etc.
An owl to the school and a quick floo would have done it
There are dozens of better ways as mentioned
what about the Knight Bus? Are you really saying flying a car when Ron has probably seldom ever looked at cars and neither of them can drive, it's a good idea to FLY a car to their school? Also, Harry has an owl with him- they could owl someone for help.
He's honestly my favorite character in the series
yeah
rons the one i can relate to cos all my siblings to well at school id do alright but i am not great and i always feel like i am in their shadow just like ron
that is why he is my favourite character
1) Harry disliked Malfoy after they met at Diagon Alley,
2) Ron isn't pointless. At 11 he beats wizad chess that McGonnagal herself charmed. At 12 he convinces his brothers to steal their dad's car to rescue Harry and then he flies said car all the way to Hogwart.
1. True, but Ron, and to a lesser extent Hagrid, was literally the reason for Harry's Slytherin bias, and even slightly for all other houses than Gryffindor, and probably prevented him from making more/other friends.
2. He was 12 :P - also, all of the obstacles were beatable by first-year students and either a test set by Dumbledore or, more likely, a case of bad writing because of inexperience. I mean, Dumbledore flying to the MoM on a freakin' broom? Like, really?
And yeah, he flies the car to Hogwarts, breaks his own Wand and gets them both into trouble. Harry on his own probably could have kept a cool head, just spoken to literally any Wizard/Witch present, sent an owl, used the floo and and and.
2. I am not so sure if Harry would have kept a cool head, he is a 12 year old who doesnt know much about the wizarding world. And how could he use the floo by himself?
Then the ministry would have sent a search party for him; he is the boy who lived and it takes place before order of the phoenix
Hagrid told Harry about Voldemort and most bad guys being in Slytherin, so I don't think meeting Ron influenced his dislike for the house. Hagrid also mentioned that hufflepuff is for loosers, so...
Harry was shy, didn't know how to make friends (thanks Dudley) so it's reasonable that he clinged to first nice kid he met. And he later had many friends in his house and couple outside Gryffindor, just not as close (so just like irl).
2. Harry didn't have floo powder. He was alone with Ron in the middle of muggle trainstation, no other Wizards. They could've send an owl, but they were 12 so really expecting cool headedness is little too much.
Agnessa92 Bitched all of third year and actually ditched both of his only friends in fourth year.
If you ever had a popular friend you'd know how it feels to be a Ron. 😂 I'm just glad that my best friend is as humble as Harry and has an odd obsession with becoming a wallflower. As much as I admire Ron though, I wouldn't wanna be him. Jealousy just ain't my style. 😂💕
Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels As someone who has been the center of quite a bit of negative attention in my life, I don't find that desire odd at all. Also from a more general point of view, people tend to strive for a balance between being individual and fitting in with others. Standing out all the time, even standing out in a really positive way, is not really fulfilling. Sometimes you just want to be part of the crowd.
In the movies maybe, in the books NO!
Jambr0 exactly! That’s what I was thinking when I saw the title! I’m glad someone agrees!
the movies really stuffed him over. i like to think it was because of bad calls over an ideological motivation.
I agree, I think lots of people are clouded by the movies and don't remember how different and deeper Ron was as a character in the books.
exactly
what about the time Ron saved harry from drowning
And jumped back into the ice cold water after he saves him to get the sword
Noticed something interesting during the comparison of Ron and Malfoy.
There's a story structure technique I've been learning about lately that involves presenting two secondary characters who embody the opposing philosophy's that the protagonist is caught in the middle of. I.e. a theme of the story is whether or not relying on technology is a good thing, and the protagonist will meet a character who is 100% dependant on technology and another character who refuses to touch anything electronic. Not a very subtle example but I'm making a point.
So early in the series, a big plot point is Harry figuring out who he is and where he fits into the world. Hell, it's an important theme all through the books, though arguably more so in the philosophers stone as he first enters the wizarding world. Then he quickly meets two other wizards, from old wizarding families, with opposing views on a wizards place in the world; Malfoy thinks being a pureblood wizard makes him superior to others, and thinks Harry should also consider himself above the riff raff, while Ron thinks it means nothing special and believes your character is more important than your bloodline.
They offer Harry opposing perspectives on what coming from a wizarding family means. At a point in the series where Harry has just discovered he's actually descended from an old wizarding family himself (His mother was muggle born, but I'm pretty sure James Potter was pureblood). As the series continues Ron keeps Harry grounded, while Malfoy's insistence on superior status drives him into relative isolation and struggles as he tries to live up to his family name.
Just an interesting observation from watching this vid :)
I love this literary analysis!
I think James Potter was a half blood
Aibhilin Preble Just searched it up, and James Potter is a pureblood.
Ron is a nice kid so leave him alone

In regards to the Crookshanks and Scabbers situation, I do truly think that Hermione was the one at fault there, pets are always a very touchy subject to people and Hermione was very selfish when it came to her cat.
It was mentioned in one of the later books that Harry knew not to take Ron seriously with his criticisms of Pigwidgeon because he'd been devastated at the "death" of his rat, Scabbers in PoA, showing that even if he doesn't show it, Ron does care for his pets. Hermione should have respected Ron's wishes to keep Crookshanks away from the rat as the cat was clearly after him, but she did not, nor did she even make an effort to. In fact she kept bringing him into the boy's dormitory where Scabbers was and even when it seemed that Crookshanks seemed to have eaten him, she took no responsibility for the cat until much later on and even when Harry tried to speak to her regarding she still wouldn't admit she was wrong. "Personally, Harry was sure that Crookshanks had eaten Scabbers, and when he tried to point out to Hermione that the evidence all pointed that way, she lost her temper with Harry too."
I know, I know that Scabbers turned out to be literally scum, but the thing is that they didn't know that then. In Ron's situation, I would have been furious with her as well because of how little responsibility she took for her own pet.
Also, when Lavender's rabbit dies, she just starts explaining how Trelawny couldn't have predicted that.
I know this is irrelevant to the whole Ron situation, but she just doesn't care about other people's pets (except Buckbeak)
Exactly! People act as if Ron was being unreasonable with Hermione, and perhaps he had a few moments where he should have been calmer, but she didn't take responsibility for her pet. A lot of people at Hogwarts bring pets, and letting a predatory cat run free when there are rats, toads, and birds about is just irresponsible.
just saying if you read the books it tells you that crookshanks was helping sirus and is trying to get wormtail for sirus :l
Well... Ron didn't keep his rat in a cage or anything in a place full of cats. Hermione can't be the only one who has a cat in Gryffindor and it's not reasonable to expect the cats to stay in the dorms all the time, that's not enough space for a cat. But I do agree with you that she shouldn't have brought him up with her into their dorm, that wasn't considerate or responsible at all and when it looked like he'd eaten Scabbers she should have taken responsibility and apologised. And on the topic I'd just like to bring up how Ron was just lucky nobody in his dorm had a cat before that.
Also if Ron kept Scabbers in a cage when he wasn't in the dorm or on him then he would have been safely kept away from any cats claws when he wasn't with Ron which is a simple and easy thing to do so I think they're both at fault. But since cats seem fairly common as pets in the wizarding world then I think Ron should have taken more steps to ensure Scabbers' safety than he did (which was nothing as far as I remember) and so I think it was more his fault than Hermione's.
@BrookeMarshall, though I understand what you're saying, you may have noted that I in fact quoted the book, and I have in fact read all of them, several times. However, the issue I spoke of wasn't regarding Sirius and Wormtail, it was the issue of pets prior to the readers finding out that Scabbers was Wormtail. Just saying
Ron isn't useless to his family for sure. Within an hour of leaving for school in his first year he becomes friends with someone who will save the life of several of his family members throughout the following years
I love this video for how you turned it around but I don't like that you just brushed over Ron winning the chess game in book 1. They LITERALLY wouldn't have been able to get past that challenge of it wasn't for Ron.
Kerriscorner Here's the thing about Sorcerer 's Stone: Towards the end, it all becomes kinda pointless. Even if they , the trio, never get to the Mirror of Erised, Quirrel and Lord Voldemort still wouldn't be able to get the stone. Remember, you have to want the stone with all your heart but not want to actually use it. The only thing of real consequence is that Quirrel gets found out and dies. However, we learn in Deathly Hallows that Dumbledore already suspects Quirrel. So Ron's big moment in Sorcerer's Stone (and everyone else's in regards to actually getting the stone) is kind of irrelevant. But kudos to them still.
Desmond Gentle yes but for the kids themselves, it was a big moment for Ron. They didn't know about the Mirror dilemma that Quirrell was having at the end (Or that it was Quirrell at all, since they suspected Snape the whole time). They just knew that he was closer to getting it and they had to hurry to stop him. So from their perspective at the time, Ron was the MVP for that chess match
Kerriscorner !!!!
Kerriscorner this was annoying to me but what annoyed me most was how they totally ignored tje fact that ron saved Harry's life in deathly hallows. He would have drowned in that lake and voldemort would have won had it not been for ron
MrEevee you forget that Snape had to have been around, to lead Harry to the sword by means of the doe. I sincerely doubt he would’ve let Harry drown.
