around 1:54:30 we are talking about the Minotaur mythology and, looking it up now, I get a little misremembered. I say that I think one of the gods became a bull and tricked King Minos' wife (Pasiphaë) into copulating with him. It was close but not quite. Minos asked Poseidon to send him a Bull to sacrifice but then chose to keep the bull instead. So Poseidon made Pasiphaë fall in love/lust with the bull as punishment (because why punish the guy responisble for the slight when you can punish his innocent wife? Typical Greek gods). She then 'willingly' copulated with the bull (with the help of a fake cow suit) and bore the minotaur.
Just my stupid take: The punishment was indeed for Minos, not his wife. It was that his wife cheated on him with his sacrifice, thus undermining his masculinity. Bestiality however was totally o.k. for everybody involved, just that Pasiphaë had a new kink afterwards...

D&D Idea: Lich bard that was an actor and wanted the immortality to play every role. 'Possession' technique is smth me and my group devised during lockdown (Discord with 4 hidden channels with every player and the ghost player having access to all of them, when ghost started possession it would simply state you are possesed at the hidden channel and from now on the player would need to follow all of its commands (say what ghost tells them to say, use actions as ghost requires them to do), without any way for the players to say when and if the possession started. At the end of the possesion (event or ghost deciding to 'stop possesion') players would be able to speak out what was happening. During session 2 ghost player forced the plyer to do smth stupid and then forced them to say that the possesion has just ended. Until the end of the run there was so much paranoia that the key item to players winning was destroyed by a person that was not possesed. I guess by using earpieces this could be done in a studio. DM does not have to listen to possession commands as they would already resolve them only at the table (if ghost asks for something impossible for a player to do, the DM simply responds to the player that it is impossible when they attempt the action). Of course DM has exclusive channel to ghost but is was very rarely used mainly to tell the ghost to stop the current possesion or if ghost wanted some clarification about the objective, so usually they communicated by text only.
As someone who never had the wish to act, or being part of of anything close to movie production, I find it very very interesting to hear you guys talking about your experiences and giving us some insight. I learned stuff today 🧐.
Is there ever gonna be a vldl campaign DM’d by one of the guys? Edit: I posted that comment two minutes before you started talking about wanting to do that -_-
Loved your discussion! The rambling nature of it definitely shows the ADHD'ness and I love that you talked about that as it is so, so important to break down the stigma's around mental health. I got my diagnosis almost a year ago, and while I am still working on how to adjust my coping skills and better use the advantages of it, it has been an eye opener as to some of my behaviors from my 37 years and I think the diagnosis was worth it just for that, but also have the diagnosis allowed me to get on meds which has been hugely helpful.
I got a diagnosis shortly after this chat and started on Ritalin but they just make me feel unsettled and anxious so gunna switch to try some other drug for a bit.
@@RobertHartleyGMObviously, I do not know which exact kind or dose of ritalin you use, butI remember having similar issues when I first started with regular ritalin. My doctor then switched me to the (unfortunately named) ‘retard’ version of ritalin, which spreads the dose over 10-12 hour period. This helped me out a lot in terms of stabilizing my mood and reduced my anxiety. I can only wish you all the best during your starting phase ‘Retard’ in this case by the way just means it is a delayed activation over a longer period, rather than the relatively short span of regular ritalin. (Desperately making sure that I put the word into context as it is also used as a slur)
@@RobertHartleyGM Not sure if "congratulations" would be appropriate in this context, but happy to hear you are making progress in your journey! It stinks that the meds situation wasn't nailed in one shot, but it seems that's just part of the process, sometimes 😕 (Ritalin can be great in low-energy scenarios, but yeah can be a bit rattling... it's most of the way to an amphetamine!) Here's hoping that you and your care provider can hone-in on it sooner than later!
Britt is the best D&D player in the VLDL troupe, besides Rob himself (although Phoenix is making her mark!). The scene that sealed it for me was in the Descent into Avernus One Shot when the group had to offer something as a sacrifice. The guys joked about sacrificing things they didn't actually care about and I was worried it would dull the impact of the scene. Then Britt's character gave up one of the things she valued most, and you saw the impact it had on the guys. They all sacrificed these huge aspects of their characters in response. That's the kind of player every DM dreams of, someone who can inspire the table to get more involved in the story. Also, throwing this out into the universe, would love to see MissTwisted as a guest!
You are both great, and from what I can see, also nice and kind and good human beings. And I would love to play in one of Britt's campaigns; she has the same kind of "curly" brain that one of my students and players does. Approaches things in alternative ways.

Mythology nerd here - the issue with yarn isn’t that Theseus was the first to try to map his way but that he got the ball of thread from Ariadne (which was possibly magic - according to some sources she was the one to give him the sword as well). In other words, it wasn’t like nobody before him tried (we do not know, the myth doesn’t describe that) but that he basically cheated, getting help from the one person, who was in the best position to decide his fate. Without Ariadne, it is very likely Theseus would have died in the labyrinth. 😊 (Oh and in most versions, Theseus is an asshole, abandoning someone who literally saved his life on an uninhabited island. 😂 )
Yeah, this is what I came for. I reckon right! Britt would make a brilliant DM. Bringing everybody together. Should lend her your rule book. Crunchy eh. I'm sure you can do the numbers and Britt navigates the story. Or she can read the rule book :) I can't wait to hehe.

Haha, Romeo and Juliet in school. We all had to take turns at the front of the class speaking out loud and paragraph or two. There was this one kid that walked up the front and recited the part where Romeo's dad rocks up and see's Romeo being dodgy so he went for his sword in anger. "Fetch me my longsword, ho!" Not realising ho meant haste he said it derogatory. That's not how you spell ho:D
I am relatively certain that the 'Ship of Theseus' is a thought experiment from one of the Greek Philosophers, can't remember which one, and not something that is from any of the recorded myths that we have.
The dancing plague is a few forms. One is the Tarantella dance from Spain as catharsis for a possessing spirit (likely a form of mania), the mass dancing was likely ergot fungus poisoning from rotten rye grain. Food safety. It is important.

My sister used to do that to me haha. I'd engage with her and she would turn her head slowly towards me but her eyes were still focussed on her previous task haha.
I studied biology, chemistry, and classics among other things en route to medical school, so there was a lot in this video on which I want to comment, but it looks like others are already covering all that. So here's your blood type/donor summary: The red cell/plasma divide is because the antigens (the proteins that can stimulate an immune response) are on the cell, but the antiBODIES (which attack foreign antigens) are in the plasma. So someone with O negative blood who has been exposed to any other blood type will develop antibodies to that donor type. I.e., they will have anti-A, B, and Rh+ in their plasma. If you give that plasma to someone with A, B, or Rh+ cells, the antibodies will attack. Conversely, someone who is AB+ has red cells will ALL of the common antigens which will stimulate an immune reaction in everyone else, but they don't develop antibodies to proteins that they have naturally. Therefore, their plasma is antibody-free. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the basic gist. The true universal donor is O negative LOW TITER, meaning O negative with little/no antibodies in the plasma. They are the best donors for whole blood in trauma, but they are rare enough that their blood is usually reserved for pregnant women and infants. O positive will usually be safe enough for others in an emergency and is more abundant. Obviously, the best is when the patient's blood and the donor unit are actually crossmatched, but this takes time and is not feasible in a many emergencies.
Thank you for that! And the other question was, if in an emergency situation where someone desperately needs blood but you're not a match, is it better to give the transfusion to try keep them alive long enough to get proper help, or is it worse? I imagine I, being A- would be able to receive A+ blood in an emergency situation, but not B+ blood, for instance?
@@RobertHartleyGM Short version: you can give a DIFFERENT blood type, but not an INCOMPATIBLE blood type without risking serious injury such as organ failure or death. The antibody reaction will destroy your own blood cells, so you're not even winning on that front! As A-, you can receive A- and O- red cells. If you were wheeled unconscious into a trauma bay, being a man, you would likely get O+, which isn't ideal but is weighing risk of transfusion reaction vs supply limitations. If you previously developed antibodies via prior transfusions, this could still be an issue. Best: Typed and Crossmatched - least risk of harm, most efficient use of a limited resource Better: Type-specific emergency release - we know the patient's blood type, but haven't had the chance to test specific units of blood for antibody reactions (there are tests beyond ABO/Rh). So you'd get Type A-, maybe Type A+ in a really dire emergency if you've never been transfused before. Good: Emergency release Type O. We don't know the patient's blood type, so we give the one that is unlikely to cause a transfusion reaction. Not ideal because it both hasn't been crossmatched and also is using an even more limited resource. This will occur in the trauma bay until the results of the initial labs come back with the patient's blood type. VERY BAD: Incompatible blood transfusion It's standard for hospital blood banks to have protocols for Emergency Release. The short version is that if the patient's type is unknown, the released units will be type O, with the rarer negative and low titer reserved for higher risk populations, even though the ideal would be for O- to be readily available for everyone. The Rh mismatch is not usually a big deal the first time; the risk of hemolysis goes up for Rh- people who have been exposed to Rh+ in the past, either through previous transfusion or pregnancy. (Rh- mothers now routinely receive prophylaxis for Rh+ babies they carry via a drug called Rhogam.) EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT A UNIVERSAL DONOR, GIVING BLOOD IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! Outside of trauma bays and similar scenarios, we use typed and crossmatched blood for transfusion. Every Type A, B, or AB whose blood is used for combatible patients is not only saving those lives, but preserving the type O for the situations where it is absolutely necessary. Also, giving blood does not results in a single unit. Except for when whole blood is used (typically in trauma), donated blood is broken down into components, so your donation results in multiple units of Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBCs), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Platelets, and Cryoprecipitate (lots of coagulation factors that help control bleeding). Finally, if you're out in the field and your buddy gets a nasty injury, your concern should be stopping the bleeding via pressure or tourniquet and getting evacuated to a higher level of care. Doing something simple like elevating legs to divert blood toward the heart and brain (unless it's a head bleed) will be a better intervention than an ad hoc buddy transfusion.
There's a "Hillfolk" RPG that's based on TV drama series rather than adventuring. It seems to be a good fit for a non-D&D type of campaign - something like the rom-com or regency type sessions you were discussing.
@@grayhatjen5924 Well, the Title is "Hillfolk: A Game of Iron Age Drama", and the Iron age tribe is the main example, but there are a load of other example scenarios and the main themes are interpersonal relationships and character drama.
Pretty sure we have a new theory on space expanding. I ain't a physicist. We'll know one day.
Check out Dr.Becky.
The two of you spent essentially the entire second half of this episode just nerding out over shared interests and it was the most entertaining thing.
As someone who never had the wish to act, or being part of of anything close to movie production, I find it very very interesting to hear you guys talking about your experiences and giving us some insight. I learned stuff today 🧐.
Is there ever gonna be a vldl campaign DM’d by one of the guys?
Edit: I posted that comment two minutes before you started talking about wanting to do that -_-
You know, it's really nice to just hear about your craft. Good to see a nice side of acting.
I can only wish you all the best during your starting phase
‘Retard’ in this case by the way just means it is a delayed activation over a longer period, rather than the relatively short span of regular ritalin.
You two are delightful! I enjoy your work! Keep grinding!
If I had to guess glitter and dild. Would come up this interview. Lol
I would love to play in a game with Britt as a GM!
Yay! Just what I needed on a rainy Thursday :)
Heck yeah. The guys aren't so experienced at having vulnerability and honesty in their characters. Britt can do both drama and humour ❤
You are both great, and from what I can see, also nice and kind and good human beings.
And I would love to play in one of Britt's campaigns; she has the same kind of "curly" brain that one of my students and players does. Approaches things in alternative ways.
I am from Czech republic and odly enough we also have a show called "the street" (translated from czech) and it feels a lot like shortland street in its effect on the TV industry. Its odd how litteraly on the other side of the world you have the exact same type of show
Upřímně to tak bývá celkem často. Sem tam to je náhoda a sem tam se jeden inspiroval druhým
Great set up. Love the in house interviews
Yeah, PE teaches suck arse! Nah, no joke, I'm excellent at maths but in Yr.10 I was put into the advanced class. About the 4th month, April, we were forced to learn probability. I'm sure you're amazing at this Rob, but I just couldn't fathom it. I was so demoralised I gave up high school :( Teachers are very important.
Im only 45 minutes in and this chat is such a treat!! Thank you so much for this!
Since i came in in the Corona years and was graced with Britts streams, its so beautiful to see her being herself and her insights (as in the good old stream days), and not "just" acting. Love it!
Also: Moon Moon sends her regards!
Not a nurse. But someone with (used to be ADD) From what i searched up, was if you get a blood donation from the wrong type of blood, you get an feeling of impending doom. Dont know what that would feel like. But it definitely wont feel good i guess.
Brit! Huzzah! Wld be so crazy to watch those old soap operas yall were in now. Used to watch one here in America called 'Passions' w my ma when I was little & it was sooo absurd, but still so fun. Good times.
Oh I've seen some stuff on the Freddie's Groove (i forgot the name of the warhammer spell) From Thoughty2. Oh, Freddie's dance macabre:)
Think Britt's right, it has to of been an ancient form of ekkies
For me the H in ADHD doesn’t fit me at all, so I never figured I might have it (also when I was a kid, nobody knew about it ), but I’ve also noted recently that I find that my behavior (and problems) match ADD like 95%
Mythology nerd here - the issue with yarn isn’t that Theseus was the first to try to map his way but that he got the ball of thread from Ariadne (which was possibly magic - according to some sources she was the one to give him the sword as well). In other words, it wasn’t like nobody before him tried (we do not know, the myth doesn’t describe that) but that he basically cheated, getting help from the one person, who was in the best position to decide his fate. Without Ariadne, it is very likely Theseus would have died in the labyrinth. 😊
(Oh and in most versions, Theseus is an asshole, abandoning someone who literally saved his life on an uninhabited island.
I've heard y'all vaguely reference this channel on the DnD channel, but Britt brings it to the forefront of the algorithm. Also thought this was a fifteen minute interview and I'm like 75 minutes deep into it.
Just looked up the dance plague and ergot is indeed one of the proposed causes.
Um, it's really kind of weird. I'm no longer depressed. Nothing has changed but I no longer am depressed. I didn't know there was life afterwards. Just the last 6 months. I'm still kind of lost honestly.
I thought Misfits would go on as long as the guys game. I am now sad.....
Nope, was always going to be a shorter campaign.
The girls are so good. Like an entirely different game to the guys.
Love them both.
Despite our faults as humanity we do kick arse in medical science! Bring on the transporter!
Have you guys seen the Superhuman program in Ukraine? Getting oomies back to having all their limbs.
Talking about jobbing actors, it's the reason why so many diversify into related things like Twitch, UA-cam, tiktok... if you love it, you find a way to do it, somehow, somewhere, even if it doesn't pay -.- just to get experience. It is a hard way to live.
PC monsters and DM good guys: 2nd edition Reverse Dungeon
Multi level dungeon with a bunch of different monsters the players can use to fight the incoming parties
Was talking to a mate today about Greek mythology and pregnancy. Zeus as a swan that spawned Herc. I've never read up on the Minotaur. Very cool.
So my mate told me a story that a mother was incepted twice in one day. Different fathers.
Did anyone figure out the name of Rob's post apocalyptic book? Sounds like an awesome read xD
What a wide ranging chat! Acting, gaming, mental health, Greek mythology, cosmology......
Yeah, nah. You guys really struck gold with Viva and DnD. Couldn't ask for better actors, nerds and friends :)
100% disagree with you there. Biology is just physics and chemistry mixed. It's science. It doesn't lie.
Haha, your outro reminded me of the Flame Wreath chant. Super cool hanging guys. Thanks heaps for having us! :D
Yeah, see, that's the scary part. What happens after? My whole family likes the concept of cremation but even after death fire would scare the crap out of me. Is it for population area? We are dead, so who knows? Meh, scares the crap out of me.
I feel Rob is also going to love learning about the palace complexs on minoan crete and sea raids for women to work as weavers.
Also ergot poisoning, outbreaks of laughter, and the play the "fantasticks"
I came up with the same problem. And since then it has become a topic of harassment. I did the math in the Bible and came up with the conclusion we existed with dinos. Then you learn science. Its all a bit much for a human to comprehend. I just gave up. Let oomies be oomies.
I've not read anything on the Fey World yet. I love the Emerald Dream from WoW and the Spirit World from Avatar. Would love to hear what you have created homebrew for your Fey World.
I know right guys. Blows my freaking mind! What tops it off is that I'm the end of my bloodline. It's so sad :(
The dance to death was in the vilage Hårga in Hälsingland, Sweden and we still have a circle carved in the rock from the plase. The devil drest up as a bard!
Don't worry, I always felt Mongan was a drunken scribble of an Irishman named Morgan coming over.
Would 100% love to see Britt dm a campaign!!!
I did a one shot where I wasn't sure if I should speak up in the party but I did. It all worked out but I didn't use an accent or posture. Next time :)
Uhm akhschtually 2 hours and 21 minutes, though way longer than a standard short rest, does in fact meet the "at least one hour" indicated in the 5e rules. 🤓
Oh, the demogorgon. I loved Stranger Things. Don't think I ever want to come across one though :)
Wants Rob to read about quantum biology. Like the quatum processes in photosynthesis.
before knowing brittani I was really confused that why would her parents name her three surnames
The fact Britt pays the paetron, and Rob was filming in that closed Techtown scene is wow
Loved the other contents too!
My sister used to do that to me haha. I'd engage with her and she would turn her head slowly towards me but her eyes were still focussed on her previous task haha.
That's interesting Britt, I knew a woman with the name Tonia, but it was pronounced Tonna. (As in Donna, but with a T)
Wow this went super deep and philosophical at the end! Awesome stuff! 🎉
I studied biology, chemistry, and classics among other things en route to medical school, so there was a lot in this video on which I want to comment, but it looks like others are already covering all that. So here's your blood type/donor summary:
The red cell/plasma divide is because the antigens (the proteins that can stimulate an immune response) are on the cell, but the antiBODIES (which attack foreign antigens) are in the plasma.
Best: Typed and Crossmatched - least risk of harm, most efficient use of a limited resource
Better: Type-specific emergency release - we know the patient's blood type, but haven't had the chance to test specific units of blood for antibody reactions (there are tests beyond ABO/Rh).
VERY BAD: Incompatible blood transfusion
It's standard for hospital blood banks to have protocols for Emergency Release. (Rh- mothers now routinely receive prophylaxis for Rh+ babies they carry via a drug called Rhogam.)
EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT A UNIVERSAL DONOR, GIVING BLOOD IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!
Woah. 2:17:15. 1:59:01
Enjoyed the discussion and the different topics! Learned a lot too!
So you should do a One-shot with Britt as DM/GM!
For sure!
Glad to hear some behind the scenes stuff from viva dnd. Y’all are great!
There's a "Hillfolk" RPG that's based on TV drama series rather than adventuring. It seems to be a good fit for a non-D&D type of campaign - something like the rom-com or regency type sessions you were discussing.
That sounds goooood
@@grayhatjen5924 Well, the Title is "Hillfolk: A Game of Iron Age Drama", and the Iron age tribe is the main example, but there are a load of other example scenarios and the main themes are interpersonal relationships and character drama. I remembered the game during the VLDL Misfits series, because they leaned heavily into backstory and drama.
Rob, please GM L5R with the lads and ladies. I think it he great
With all the weapons they have - Cyberpunk 2020
Rob is from an actual 'Shire', Yorkshire.
Haha, there's no way I'd be allowed into the bunker!
1:11:00 FYI Britt is the only Viva Cast member that has actually done a proper stunt training course
Need to do another workshop and freshen up the knowledge 👏
Given that I have done several stunt training courses and am a Viva cast member, I find your statement hard to believe.
Also wants Rob to watch Vincent Racaniello lecture on prions.
I know right Britt, Poseidon used to be cool! :)
I live for this
Two of the best editions to entertainment ever if you ask me.
So glad to have found this in my suggested feeds. I have been watching the Misfits adventures having followed VLDL. Said to hear that will be ending shortly, but I am hooked on your talents, Robert. And those of Britt. I have been told I have ADHD tendencies myself and your stories of your own life and Britt's as well, were epiphanies. Thank you for your content. I shall search you out on Twitch. Look forward to more from you. I sense binging and hyper-focus in my future... to the detriment of everything else I should be doing, like sleeping. Keep it up, please.
@@MrDwinstead Glad to have you in the community!
Oh, Eric Idle. Galaxy Song.
All the stuff about acting at the start has made me so nervous for the future as a young actor, I have no idea what I'm doing, great interview though, loved hearing about your acting experiences.
@@Supe4 Just know that acting for a living requires a healthy dose of talent (natural, can't be taught) and skill (learned, practiced, work). You may have each in different amounts but if you have less of the former, you'll need more of the latter!
There are much more worse situations than being stucked in Vancouver
