The biggest reason this game failed had nothing to do with its gameplay or how it strayed from the originals. It’s because by the time it came out people were utterly sick of the zombie craze of the late 00s and early 2010s. The market was over saturated like nothing I’ve ever seen. Zombie movies, games, and shows were everywhere. People wanted something different, and you can’t make a dead rising game without zombies For some reason I think people have forgotten just how insufferable and annoying the zombie trend was at its peak.
@@thatoneantoid51 that too. People also forget how disastrous the launch of the Xbox one was. Almost destroyed the Xbox brand forever- they just barely were able to recover but they’re still eclipsed by Sony after so many switched to ps4. 3 has sold more copies then 2 and has more players playing it it's not underrated people just act like noone liked the game when everyone thought it was an amazing upgrade over 2
Curiosity: 8:33 around after nick and "annie" kiss Capcom was originally to pull a ending called ending "x" if you killed the survivors enough Annie would just kick on nick balls after learning this and gathered some survivors to kill nick because of it. I heavily disagree the game is more "realistic" Just because it has a grittier look doesn't mean it's realistic, if anything for all the quirky and sillier moments 1 is still the game that seems the most "real" and grounded compared to any of the sequels.
Played a bit of DR1 at some point. Could never get into it. It just felt me. Eventually got to coop DR3 with a friend. It really was a blast. Never played 2 and 4 but I am guessing DR3 was the only good one since my friend refused to play DR4.
DR3 is so underrated imo and in no way deserves the treatment it gets from the DR community online. Thanks for making this man, I love to see this game get its flowers
*SPOILERS AHEAD* The complete character assassination of Isabella was unforgivable. She went from being vengeful to realising her brother’s madness and then working to atone. She created the inhibitor and tried to make it synthetic whilst working on a cure for everyone. Hell, she worked for Phenotrans just to make sure she wasn’t in jail and therefore unable to help. She even tried to expose them when they took her work so she could try to prevent future outbreaks like Las Vegas and Fortune City. And then they have her cause the outbreak of Los Perdidos? In a bid to find the cure not for humanity, but so she could restore some honour to the Keyes’ family name? It was a complete 180 of her character arc. Hell, even Marion Mallon was against it when she had proposed it. Capcom Vancouver was a master class in character assassinations. Chuck Greene went from decent, upstanding citizen and devoted father to crime boss who was a devoted father. Frank West went from photojournalist who was a jerk but had a good sense of justice and the selflessness of a hero to a callous, sarcastic jerkass who would leave someone tied up in a building with a monster nearby. Isabella went from vengeful terrorist to an atoner dedicating to righting the wrongs of her brother back to being a monster no better than her brother with no build up. With Capcom working to reinvigorate interest in the series again, I hope they retcon what Capcom Vancouver did to their characters.
DEAD rising 3 was the goat. People mocked it for being xbox exclusive. My only complaint is it felt more of a broken up linear map then RD2. But it's soild compared to DEAD rising 4.
Thank you so much for this video your content as a new favorite honestly so good thank you for what you do and put so much effort into it really does feel like a labor of love for these games completely bro much love
Actually for me Off the Records is my fav in the series, as it lets you play as Frank in Fortune City and have an alternative story of DR2 but also in coop have Chuck Greene be part of it too. And it was the one game where you could play infinitely in coop with a buddy and have massive fun however you wanted as both great protagonists of the series combined. I never really played DR1 much back then and only really got into the series with DR2 and Off the Record, but i was hyped af for DR3 at the time and pre-ordered it back when the Xbox One came out (I even got the game before my console arrived so i was looking at the disc and were longing to play it). I never actually finished any of the DR games ever. But at some point i at least played each of them (and yes even DR4) and i enjoyed each game (yes even DR4).
Great review Mungo! I recall having a fantastic time with DR3, DR1 will always be a special kind of game, the timer is a fantastic game mechanic, the bright and colorful world contrasting with the dreary undead was a great vibe and the gameplay itself was clunky but wonderful. DR3 being smoother to play was fantastic, the tone was pretty intereting and the mystery of Nick's past was a fun way to reference the events in the previous games. My only gripe were the dreary visuals, maybe it fits some noir aesthetic, but it was the only thing I couldn't enjoy completely. Game is a fantastic entry in the series, tries some things differently and does some of them very well!
Yeah I had a good time with this one. It balanced goofiness and story well, and the story was surprisingly good because of how well written many characters were
I don't think it has been forgotten, it's just that it's been over 10 years since its release. I remember that in 2014 and 2015 everyone who had an Xbox One recommended the game. It's no wonder that it's the best-selling game in the franchise, even though it was released at the beginning of a new generation and was exclusive to one console. Capcom data: Dead Rising 3 = 3.6 million Dead Rising 2 = 3.2 million Dead Rising = 1.8 million Dead Rising (Remaster) = 1.5 million Dead Rising 4 = 1.5 million NOTE: All DLCs sold over 1 million. I think the problem is that Dead Rising 4 did so badly that it overshadowed the entire franchise.
Great video as usual, I really enjoy your Dead Rising videos as this is one of my favorite series ever. Do you plan on making one for Off The Record as well?
The main criticism I have towards the psychos is how tossed in they feel to the setting, the seven deadly sins theming doesn't help imo as instead of crafting psychos that naturally fit into the world they have to make locations that justify the premise of the psycho's themes. Kenny and Albert are an exception to this, but they have their own issues. Albert seems very random, it seems like they just needed something big to end a story mission on and plucked one of the seven sin psychos who could most easily be jammed in without much set up. And the issue I take with Kenny is that his feels the most sloppy, you don't even need to do his survivor mission to encounter him as a psycho later on but the game still acts like you did it regardless. I have no idea why they did this frankly, seems they missed the point of the boss if they were just going to make him an available fight regardless.
People always say the dead has before was horrible, but let’s be honest, dead, rising four was just building off of 3 with 3 building off of two. Two was enough to remove the camera, and then three was drastic enough to remove the survivors and fundamentally change the psychos. Deadrising 2 I loved at the time but as I get older it’s plain to see the downward trajectory began with the changes in 3. People wanted better controls not to remove the camera. Remove the survivors and then for completely removed psychos too. People didn’t fall in love with terrorizing one because they liked mindlessly kill zombies for hours.
forgotten sequel my guy there are more videos about dead rising 3 then there are about 1 and 2 combined tf you mean forgotten and as another fact everyone and their mom likes to act like 3 was shit and a bad game while it outsold dead rising 2 with nearly a million copies it was by all standards a more popular game then 2 ever was
What? Sales aren’t a defining factor of popularity dude. Alien Isolation is loved now but it tanked in initial sales. Some games get hyped up and then just fail to live up to it and die out. It’s pretty weird to call dead rising 3 a more popular game than 1 and 2. Plus it isn’t even talked about that much, it was by no means as popular as the first two
As someone who recently became interested in Dead Rising, I have no doubt that the third game is the most forgotten. Everyone talks about how the first one is great, the second one is really good, Off Records is better than the second one and how bad the fourth game is. I had no idea what the third game was like until I saw this video.
I've played a lot of dead rising 3 even the demo before release still go back to it every now and then. It's a great game never understood why it never got the recognition it deserved like the 1st & 2nd as a matter of fact this was my 1st dead rising
absolutely LOVE DR3. On my second playthrough rn as I watch this video, and I find Nick to be my favorite protag of the main 3. I like how realistically overwhelmed he is throughout the game, like any normal dude would be. characters are fleshed out and the combos are pretty wild. my only main gripe with the game is the open world is kinda annoying to navigate due to the size and layout, but I can live with that. sad how very few people talk about DR3 anymore
I genuinely believe that 1, 2 and 3 are an amazing trilogy of solid games Each has their own issues and flaws but I genuinely don’t bat an eye when people tell me any of the 3 is their favorite game in the trilogy It’s an overall pretty good and consistent trilogy 2 is my personal favorite I just hope drdr fixes some of 1’s clunkiness, ai and control issues that make the game feel weird Then they do the same for 2 maybe? And then maybe we can finally get a dr5
No game NEEDS sequels. But 2 and 3 had something to add, and add they did. The Dead Rising trilogy is a great story that ties itself into a bow very neatly.
25:40 final note I have is that, no DR4 was always doomed. The troubling circumstances surrounding Capcom Vancouver had already begun by the time of 3 and many who worked on 3 were pretty open about how many of the issues were internal and on the company itself not fan reception to 3. If anything 3 did surprisingly good despite the massive development troubles, selling pretty well and while certainly being criticized wasn't nearly as harshly panned as many think upon release. By original fans, for the most part yeah people were unhappy with a lot of the changes. But general audiences ate it up, and regardless of what the lying through their teeth marketing of 4 had you believe they were still absolutely trying to appeal more to casual audiences or fans of 3 the most. The sloppy narrative of 4 trying to dig up characters and plot points from the first game did not run that deep and most of it was just a worse version of the direction 3 had taken the story. So yeah I don't think 3 had an impact on the downfall of the franchise either way, I think CV was already going on a downward spiral and no amount of "loving" or "hating" what they put out was gonna steer them away from that.
DEADRISING 3 is so forgotten that my Xbox One doesn't show it in "my games & apps" despite being installed. 2:44 If only the story and characters were better. 20:26 Incredibly Based😂
I feel like this game atleast tried to be dead rising but with a different take and actually completes and treats any past characters with respect unlike dead rising 4 and it’s attempt to “innovate”
You know how much I love Dead Rising, I played Dead Rising 1 and 2 and I finished them both, but I never got the chance to play DR3 because it came only on XBOX ONE and honestly, they somehow screwed it up because if it would've came to PS4, I would've play it for sure. Dead Rising 2 got me a lot of attention the first time I played it because you can customize any weapon to make it powerful against zombies and psychopaths and also customize the motorcycle with the chainsaw, how cool was that😎😎🔥
I imagine by micro dosing throughout the day so it doesn’t completely run out and possibly you go to a doctor every few months and get a new chip kinda like insulin I suppose?
My friend and I played this together ages ago, and its the only DR Ive played, and I loved it, I figured everyone else did too. When we play Dead Rising 2 im curious how it will compare.
Deadrising 2 could be considered a direct upgrade, many will say the first one is better due to nostalgia and the fact that it started the franchise. I think the second is so much better due to not only being able to play co-op but with the new combo weapons! Both S tier games but clearly 2 is much more improved. I just played Off the record with my buddy when the game was on sale on steam for summer, good nostalgia. Btw I recommend off the record if your going to buy deadrising 2.
I saw somewhere that dead rising 1 and 2 has the character have the most lore and development ever while the main guy in DR3 juts goes “holy shit balls.”
I bought a Xbox just so I could play the dead rising. Now they're on all consoles except for Dead Rising 3 Which is probably my favorite, it was balls too the wall insane. Plus chuck and Katie returned
Bro, dead rising three was one of the first exclusive Xbox one games that didn’t come out on Xbox 360 at least I don’t think so because I for sure never played it on Xbox 360 bro I played that shit for like two years straight
whoa i loved dr1 aand 2 and never gave 3 a chance because i also thought it strayed too much. Might have have to give it a chance now that i saw my boy chuck greene
I could have forgiven a lot of 4 if the psychopaths were you know psychopaths and a proper coop mode.. A cutscene and challenging fight that usually dropped an item that would make the game easier. You could feel the mega man inspiration. The lack of coop in the open work really killed the fun to an already mediocre game. Deadrising 2 and 3 are proof that even if they aren’t as good as the original Capcom understood the joy of coop back then. I can only hope that They look at coop as a feature for future titles. Imagine an action based spin off of RE that took the action of 5 and 6 make an awesome coop shooter with a bit of horror mixed in for those laughing at your friend for screaming back then. Coop in Devil May cry 3 on switch was such a cool feature!
For anyone who thinking about playing dead rising 3 for your first play through put the difficulty to hard or very hard makes the game a bit less easier for the player
I think the only thing DR3 did wrong was mess up the tone and everything else just shifted with it, DR4 then took that messed up tone and flanderized it
I enjoy the original trilogy but the one I had the most fun with was the third one. I think because it was the only game I had for Xbox One so played it the most. I even go back to it at least once a year for so good old zombie slaying fun although graphically it is quite ugly now.
Some months ago, I decided to play through all the games. I have played 1 and 2 in the past, but avoided 3 and 4. I heard 3 was bland, but it turns out all that's bland about it is the color pallet. Other than that, it's great. It even has my favorite psycho fight: Darleen, who made me laugh so hard while fighting her. I also didn't like Nick at first, but yeah, he grew from simp to chad and thus, grew on me. I very much enjoy it and will go back to it some day. Now excuse me while I repress the memory of DR4 and DR:DR.
I like how since he's a mechanic, he brings his bench with him. I like Nick's personality too. He's just a cowardly nerd but does his' best. I still wish Japan was making dead risings though, it has charm of what Japan thinks america is like vs 2 and 3 which are made in america so they know their culture too well, so they feel like generic western zombie media.
There are reasons why dead rising 4 is shit there video on it. It calls what happened by Matt mcmuscles it really good I highly recommend it if you like dead rising games
For me the games lost a bit of their charm when I realized you didn’t have to escort survivors. I loved doing that. I actually think that’s why I stopped playing 3. This and a lot of other small things. I thought it was OK overall. The controls were decent, more weapons, graphics and environments were more immersive. But always find myself replaying 1 & 2 more.
Spoilers Unlike DR4 where it insultingly assassinated and bastardized Frank West and turned into an cringy unlikable "relatable" protagonist. This game however RESPECTED Dead Rising 2's protagonist,Chuck Greene and his daughter into a proper badass and made them both a genuinely likable characters. Also Nick is surprisingly a ballsy DR protagonist,Going so far to literally say "I don't give a shit if she is your daughter, she's not your property" to mf Chuck Greene face ? that's brave. While DR3 obviously has it's cons comparing to DR1 and 2,on it's own it's still a blast to play, Unlike DR4.
@@RedStar2002B Fair because i do kinda agree it's a bit lackluster comparing to DR1 and 2 but comparing to DR4 it just makes me appreciate and enjoy DR3 a whole lot more than i'd admit.

Just found your channel, amazing content! Keep up the good work!
One of my top 10 favorite game trialers
Please!!!!! Do Dead Rising 2 Off the Record, love you S2.
DEADRISING 3 is so forgotten that my Xbox One doesn't show it in "my games & apps" despite being installed.
2:44 If only the story and characters were better.
20:26 Incredibly Based😂
forgotten my ass this game downloaded on my series x , fire as hell
I feel like this game atleast tried to be dead rising but with a different take and actually completes and treats any past characters with respect unlike dead rising 4 and it’s attempt to “innovate”
Dead rising 3 was the best co op dead rising of all time! you could level up as player 2 to which in dead rising 2 you couldn't.
Real question: Why is there no Rule 34 content about Darlene?
*I having nothing to say about this comment except the obvious*
@@elliotsturtplus340 You'd love that wouldn't you.
Not forgotten by me. Easily one of my favorite games ever!
I think OTR is still my favorite, but this game is super underrated. The X Buster is the most fun and rewarding unlockable in Dead Rising
Dylan the male stripper psycho is one if the coolest villains
You know how much I love Dead Rising, I played Dead Rising 1 and 2 and I finished them both, but I never got the chance to play DR3 because it came only on XBOX ONE and honestly, they somehow screwed it up because if it would've came to PS4, I would've play it for sure. Dead Rising 2 got me a lot of attention the first time I played it because you can customize any weapon to make it powerful against zombies and psychopaths and also customize the motorcycle with the chainsaw, how cool was that😎😎🔥
“Frank west rule 34” what the fuck
Yeah
Like
Those idiots wants to draw frank west rule 33
I loved this game. It's my favorite out of the entire series, due to the gameplay and story.
How does the chip work. Wouldn't you have to refill it very often? Also how would you know if it malfunctioned before it is too late?
Dr3 was one of my favourite and the best for gameplay
I saw somewhere that dead rising 1 and 2 has the character have the most lore and development ever while the main guy in DR3 juts goes “holy shit balls.”
Dead rising 3 was a banger. Felt like a true next gen game at the time. I always loved it.
Isn't forgotten, is the last good Dead Rising game.
I bought a Xbox just so I could play the dead rising. Now they're on all consoles except for Dead Rising 3
Which is probably my favorite, it was balls too the wall insane.
I just started playing this and am blown away... i had a ps so i missed it for a while and holy shit it is better than 4. Every way shape and form.
Never got a chance to play deadriseing 3 sadly
i don't think dead rising should be open world, kinda defeats the purpose. maybe just make it like a giant resident evil map and do stuff with that
For anyone who thinking about playing dead rising 3 for your first play through put the difficulty to hard or very hard makes the game a bit less easier for the player
Underrated opinion but Dead Rising 3 is my favorite 😅
I think the only thing DR3 did wrong was mess up the tone and everything else just shifted with it, DR4 then took that messed up tone and flanderized it
@Mungo You forgot the story expansions.
This game is fire! Anybody that didn't find this game enjoyable is dead wrong.
i loved your video on state of decay
I don’t think it’s the forgotten sequel it’s literally the highest rated of them all
I literally forgot about the dead rising series
The only thing I hated with this was that damn Time Limit other then that it’s a great fun game.
This game barely has one. 7 days, 14 hours.
1rst place: dead rising
2nd: dead rising 2
3rd: dead rising 3
4th: dead rising 4
Cant wait for the dead rising remaster deluxe
Dead Rising 3 is my favorite zombie game ever.
Now excuse me while I repress the memory of DR4 and DR:DR.
this a game i really wanna play, even with what people are saying about the game i just don’t got xbox
Man how come the 3rd one was not in PlayStation
It was an xbox one exclusive launch title and microsoft didn't want sony to have it is my guess
Or even rennsreviews of it
For me the games lost a bit of their charm when I realized you didn’t have to escort survivors. I loved doing that. I actually think that’s why I stopped playing 3. This and a lot of other small things. I thought it was OK overall. The controls were decent, more weapons, graphics and environments were more immersive. But always find myself replaying 1 & 2 more.
Spoilers
Unlike DR4 where it insultingly assassinated and bastardized Frank West and turned into an cringy unlikable "relatable" protagonist.
DR3's story and characters are lackluster, especially compared 1 and 2. It also handles Chuck really poor, in my opinion.
@@RedStar2002B Fair because i do kinda agree it's a bit lackluster comparing to DR1 and 2 but comparing to DR4 it just makes me appreciate and enjoy DR3 a whole lot more than i'd admit.
Also dead rising 3 had some of the best DLCs in gaming, PERIOD
real talk this was my first ever Xbox One game (besides Battlefield 1 )
i never forget about it cause of vanoss and h20
Say what you will but u cannot say DR3 didnt beat DR4 by a billion miles
25:46 hell yeah bro
