I worked in the video game industry for years, and it may, or may not, surprise people to know that a lot (most??) of the people developing games have never fired or even touched a real firearm. When the company I was with started a game that was based a little more on 'real' firearms, vs fantasy/sci-fi weapons, I took the entire team out to the range and taught them all I could and we spent they day shooting a wide variety of firearms. I'd like to think it made a differenece in the final game.
@nobody8717 judging by the fact that they are aaa game devs especially cod devs who never see sunlight their drink is prob 1 drop of light beer per 50 gallons of energy drinks
As a warthunder player, my best explanation as to how the “conversion” works is like with many German tank destroyers. Let’s take the hetzer: they take a light tank, remove the top half, make the bottom half wider, make a new top half, rearrange the crew, and slap a really good gun into it. The only part remaining from that light tank is the suspension, the tracks, and maybe the engine. Everything else is built from scratch.
The best part about the Hetzer's story is that the Germans didn't even use the lower half of a German tank, they used the lower half of a Czech tank and made it into the Hetzer, arguably one of the most effective armored vehicles of its era. The Czech "ČKD LT 38" really was an impressive model in its own right when it rolled off the assembly line in 1938, just before the country was annexed by Germany, and the Germans made heavy use of the tank after (in so far as production allowed), naming it the "Panzerkampfwagen 38(t)", and the Hetzer was named "Jagdpanzer 38" as a result as well.
Stoner didn't design the M-16 since it's a military designation. Stoner's design (AR-10, scaled down to AR-15) had a specific type of a bolt and required a specific type of a gunpowder and it worked flawlessly. The M-16 was made by cutting corners, with cheap bolts and the standard ball had really bad gunpowder which is the reason for the unreliability problems and why it needed a forward assist.
@@glandhound It didn't need a forward assist, and Stoner straight up said so several times. Direct quote: "Reasoning was that every rifle that had ever been used in the United States Army always had something that you could pound on or beat on or something to help it along in case if was not functioning properly [...] I really didn't feel that was necessary, I questioned quite a bit on what their justification really was, and what experience they had that would show that it'd help. And they had a hard time coming up with anything that showed a justification, except to please the Chief of Staff of the Army" The fouling with the standard ammo _was_ an issue, which is why they replaced the bolt-piston impingement system with a short-stroke. But simple logic - if you've got too much fouling and the bolt cannot lock, then forcing it forward will only cause it to get jammed even more thoroughly, giving you maybe a single shot off before the system fully locks up. Only way to really help there would've been looser tolerances (like on the AK, for example), but even then there will be a critical point at which the fouling is too much (practical experience shows that on the AK it's mostly affecting the firing pin though).
Activision is the type of company to steal shit and not give 2 ounces of a damn when they do it. But the moment a community puts something out that is their IP but requires you to own THEIR game still. Instant DMCA
Why do people all of a sudden care js cause it’s Brandon’s AK50 when there’s hundreds of other guns in the game that other people/manufacturers have made?

Something that Activision and Treyarch actively did about 15 years ago. Not so much today.

Call of Duty always does shit like this they'll change the name and change the design slightly in order to avoid a lawsuit but it's still effectively stealing somebody else's creation
In that same realm of argument, video games are the only media where this is somehow considered a taboo subject to do. Use a real item in a scene within the story of a book? Fine. Use an item on screen in a video or tv show or movie? Fine. Make a model of it and put it in a video game? All of a sudden there is fear of "stealing" copyright.
No, they do it to avoid frivolous lawsuits. They aren’t copying a gun to sell irl, so it falls under artistic license. They just change the name because those names are trademarked and companies like to throw pissy fits especially if their product is shown as bad. That’s why cars in movies have their logos and shit removed and if they do have all of that there it’s shown positively.
It's partly copyright, partly Pearl clutching media clowns, and also Activision... well they can't afford those licensing fees you know?! They're so expensive! /s

No, it's Californian law. The game is rated M for mature, which contrary to popular belief, does NOT mean "above the age of 18". And seeing as how the game is produced in the state of California, it is subject to a law that says that real firearms cannot be advertised or marketed to minors (people who are 17 or younger). So they're not just changing up all the guns to avoid copyright claims, they're also doing it because it's illegal for them to have accurate or realistic firearms in their game because that would be considered advertising real guns to minors.

I don’t get this. Do you mean the gun manufacturers forcing games to change designs/names to avoid expensive legal fees? Because that’s not CoD. I make AAA shooters for a living, it's literally my specialty and has been for 10 years. Your "likely scenario" is pretty much spot on. One artist is watching your channel, saw the AK50, though "Damn that's cool as fuck, I want it in the game.", went through all the models they had and planned the most efficient way to recycle something to make it in the game, hence it looking more like an RPK than your gun (top cover for example, they probably didn't have the bandwidth to model the whole back of the COD gun like your AK) Nothing nefarious, just a fan that wanted an AK50 in his game after watching your stuff and that was the most efficient way to produce it. And for people who were telling you to sue: I deal with the legal side of all this all the time and it's impossible in this case. Change one part of the gun, the name and put fake markings on it and you're good to go. The COD version is too far removed and you'd get your case thrown out the same day you file it.
Cool to know he was basically right. I think it's a cool homage to the AK-50, and I'm glad Brandon isn't wasting time and money on trying to sue. Let's just enjoy the game and let Brandon continue to do his thing.

So it’s a new vehicle using 3 previously existing parts….Kind of like every vehicle ever except they use even more existing parts.
@@OkieDokieSmokie(its a game) (its not real life)
The best part about the Hetzer's story is that the Germans didn't even use the lower half of a German tank, they used the lower half of a Czech tank and made it into the Hetzer, arguably one of the most effective armored vehicles of its era.

Saying “It is my gun.” In the context of a fire arm you designed and it’s in a popular video game sounds like something Eugene Stoner would say.
Imagine if Eugune Stoner lived long enough to sue Call of Duty for using the M16 in their games. People would roll their eyes.
Him chasing after the Gold skin one was priceless "Give me back my gun" 😂.
And they had a hard time coming up with anything that showed a justification, except to please the Chief of Staff of the Army"
The fouling with the standard ammo _was_ an issue, which is why they replaced the bolt-piston impingement system with a short-stroke.
"Doing what the kids say, locking in." Not even 2 seconds later, "Ah fuck"

No, it's Californian law. The game is rated M for mature, which contrary to popular belief, does NOT mean "above the age of 18". Your "likely scenario" is pretty much spot on. One artist is watching your channel, saw the AK50, though "Damn that's cool as fuck, I want it in the game.", went through all the models they had and planned the most efficient way to recycle something to make it in the game, hence it looking more like an RPK than your gun (top cover for example, they probably didn't have the bandwidth to model the whole back of the COD gun like your AK)
Nothing nefarious, just a fan that wanted an AK50 in his game after watching your stuff and that was the most efficient way to produce it.
