Really good video explaining some important concepts in a clear way that an average person, not a car geek, can understand. Great job. Thanks for posting.
Fully agree on this video. My Chrysler 300C has stock 18in wheels, sold it out and upgrade with 20x9 wheels with 275-40-20 all around. At first its a head turner, nice looking car. After more than one yr, i got tired of stiffness, balancing and 2x i replace tires to get rid of road noise. Soon I got damage on my wheels due to low profile 2x on my right rear. I told myself im not happy with this anymore. Im tired of balancing multiple times + my shocks now have some leak. Now i decided to go back 18x8 chrome wheels with 255-55-18 and there was a huge diffrence in comfort and style. Theres so much meat like a muscle car. This will be my tire for lifetime.
Thanks Pat! I was going nuts trying to figure out why my low profile tires were shaking about 60mph. I did balancing, and alignment. And the vibration was still there. Now I know why.
There is a special Hunter balancer that can correct road force variance by determining the correct place for the tire and wheel to be mounted to each other. When purchasing new tires and wheels, Tire Rack does the road force balance for free. Force imbalance builds as the car is cruising, causing greater imbalance after the first mile on the highway. It is not restricted to low profile tires.
I have a Tesla Model Y Performance with a staggered set of 255/35/21 in front and 275/35/21 for the rear... I am planning on switching to 18" wheels with 245/55/18 Michelin Cross Climate 2 tire. The total weight of the new wheel and tire is much lower than the stock wheel/tire. I am going more for comfort and range. The question I have is am I giving up a "lot" of handling? Do I have to consider any other "big" disadvantage?
Hi your video have great explanation, can i use 235/60 r17 tires ony Audi Q3 quattro 2012 which has stock size 235/55 r17. My motive is to increase the ground clearance.
what about putting 18's on 2014 altima with a stock suspension? from 16 (215/60 R16) to 18 (235/45 R18), is it okay? does it make a big difference on ride quality?
Go for it , when I waz learning to drive in my moms car she had 18's and this was a 98 civic. It had smooth ride and the shocks were all original 100k+ miles
thanks man.. yes Im planning to replace it by next year. For now, planning to change the tire instead.. Replacing from Yokohama Bluearth to Michelin Primacy MX for 16's..
I’m looking for a very quiet tire set with long lasting miles. I own a 2016 Ford Transit Connect Titanium long wheelbase model and the OEM Continental Pro Contact tires are harsh and don’t last that long. Probably the worst tire I’ve ever had on any car or truck I’ve purchased since I was age 18. Please help with a recommendation. I’ve done research with Consumer Reports and beg to differ. Thank you
Check for proper tire pressure (P.S.I ) I use to go over the recommendation by 10 P.S.I In order to get better gas mileage but it also gave me a harsh ride.
With the exception of sports cars and high end luxury cars, low profile tires are not necessary on everyday cars such as a Camry or an Accord because those tires create a harsher ride to the vehicle, especially if the suspension hasn't been upgraded. And sometimes, low profile wheels and tires on some cars look plain silly. Example: A Honda Civic w/ 20 inch rims is plain overkill!
Its the shitty tires they put on from the factory. Search the tire size you need on tirerack.com and read the reveiws. Pick the one you can afford and is a good tires. There's lots to chose from nowdays.
low profile tires are only good for cars like bmw, audi, mercedes cars with good shoks. now if you use 18 inch in a corolla is goin to be a very harsh ride
Factory tires are made for maximum fuel efficeincy. That corrisponds with the mileage numbers on the sticker. After market tires won't get the same mileage.
EPA should consider banning low profile tires for street vehicles and/or adding stiff taxes for purchasing them. They do nothing but pollute landfills with tires that are forceably replaced before their treadlife due to road damage.

after so many videos, finally, a useful one!

what about them that put 26" rims and rubber band tires on a truck haha....

i somehow feel i have a serious problem with my 2013 crosstour with 225/60 R18 100H..i and my wife feel nauseated whenever we sit back :(
Wonder what those Chrysler tiers would size to today? P185/90BP-15?
i like 45-50 series tires. I get a good balance between handling and comfort for daily driving =)
Thank you!

My Suzuki Ignis has a bumpy ride on 175/60 R16 tyres could I increase to 175/higher than 60 to improve the ride comfort.
Hi, can i replace my 285/45-22 with 275/50-22 on an escalade for better quality? Will it fit? Thanks

You can do that but you must get your speed recalibrated since your overall wheel diameter would become larger
As I get older a comfortable ride is more in my interest than huge rims.
Can someone explain the road force part? Thanks

Every where I look those conti pro contacts are supposed to be the best, thanks for the heads up
Low profile tires cost more than regular tires and they don't ride as smooth.
I have seen many cars that have other parts that touch the road then just the tires. A lot of those low riders do that.
lol
My 2015 C300 came with 19 inch front with 40 sidewalls.(225/40/19) can I run 45s on it(225/45/19)?
I have 215/ 75 R15 good year assurances tires, i can feel every bump ?
Lol then your car has a crappy suspension

shoks? Yeah I can tell you know nothing about cars.
Its obvious you don't own a sports car. You have a limited view. Time to open your eyes. The world doesn't revolve around you dude.
