I used to really like their phones because they tried to be a little different. My main issue with the Xperia 5 is they're following the trend of making the screen take up the whole phone. I like grabbing my phone and actually being able to touch the edges. If the screen were smaller the Xperia 5 would be perfect. I guess I'm still an Xperia fan though.

Early Bird It has nothing to do with resolution. It is mostly due to the more rectangular aspect ratio. That cinematic 21:9. And in Sony’s case you should add quite visible bezels on top and bottom. To the best of my knowledge, very few people watch 2 hour movies on smartphones. Most probably if you have some spare 2 hours (say in a train) you have a bag with you where you have e.g. your 11” iPad Pro (my case) or even a notebook which are much more appropriate to watch movies. I like Sony as a brand (Sony walkman was my first gadget, and I used to have Sony xperia Z3 Compact), but their recent models are not for human beings. I recently bought Samsung Galaxy S10e and enjoy it.

Using the 1 for a few months now, this phone is perfect for people who want a "smaller" version or a less expensive one. The cameras are really great, at night especially. And about Side Sense, I find it really good being responsive as it should.

I had some troubles with my current XZ1 when I bought it but after you find out how to grip this damn phone using it is a breeze. Even with short fingers you can reach everywhere and to every button without troubles. Omnibalance ;) I think Sony is not communicating this stuff to clients enough (at all, sadly) but their phones are really comfortable to use even with weird design choices that, on the first look, are really, really bad. They are not, just different and Sony screws up when it comes to showing and convincing people that this is the right way to design and use smartphone.
Right. Charging beyond 80-90 percent is actually detrimental to the capacity/life of the battery. Leaving your phone charging overnight is one of the worst things you can do. Wireless charging and fast charging are also... you guessed it: detrimental to battery capacity. Sony knows the plebs and normies are leaving it on overnight. I love that they care so much they won't allow it.

Own an Xperia 1 now. Ergonomically the best smartphone I have held in a long time. The buttons on one side always fall right where my fingers are (set up my left middle finger on the finger print reader, amongst others). Also when using a flip phone cover, it's nice to have them on the side where they aren't covered.
Left us wonder why it took them so long to achieve that performance, considering that Sony supply the sensors for most of the best phone camera right now.
@@dhanang that's because they have a separate software developer in their mobile phone division before. xperia 5 however, got their software from their alpha camera division. the reason of the former is that they don't want their alpha camera division to die because of their mobile division. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Have one, and the battery life is surprisingly good. Use it in creator mode all the time. And since I got it it has gotten better up to the point it's the same or better than the OnePlus 5 it replaced. (and that was aggressive on closing apps)

I have been using Sony devices for the past 6 years. Xperia Z5 compact and now Xperia XZ2. I can tell that Sony camera is miles behind Apple and Samsung. Even I Phone 7 takes better pics in low light when compared to XZ2.. Also sony's speaker output deteriorates after 18months of usage. Sony being the market leaders in sensors are no match to Apple and Pixel in image processing.

I brought the xperia 5 today , I would like to clear up something about the motor sensor issue , rather than hitting the side , actually it's located at the edge of the round corner and you will just need a slight tap to activate it. That will take some practice , and eventually that will activate correctly as you wish. I must say that this phone is very smooth and I like it very much. Although you will have to be careful as everything is made of glass. For the sound on headphone jack , I wonder if there is a external dac inside the phone , the sound is quite impressive and it's better than I thought. Also , the Dobly Atmos is just for you to feel the impact of the sound through your fingers , it's fun to have something like this on hand. Finally , gaming on this phone surprises me a little , at first I thought this phone will gonna be very warm when playing high resolution games , but it turns out to be aright. Still , no headphone jack.....might take some time to get used to it.
@@muhammedsinan3613 I have not tried dropping my phone into the water , but I have washed it with water quite often. If the phone goes too deep into the water , the water might go into the phone. The speaker might sound weird after the wash , but it will be alright after it is dry. Just becareful not to use the type c plug before it is dry or the phone might broke.
@@muhammedsinan3613 I would say go for a newer version of the phone , headphone jack makes a huge difference , and the newer version has a new system that allow the electricity to by pass the battery while charging (save battery life). Also dual speaker is always better in my view. But I haven't tried it out so I am not sure if there is any bug on the phone all that.
The screen to body ratio makes sense to me because most phones such as the iPhone and Galaxy only show a portion of whatever it is your are watching or playing which is really annoying. Videos show up the same way the Xperia 5's screen is shaped so you get a full-video or game showing from the bottom to the top half where the forehead of the screen ends.
There are tons of people complain this Xperia 5 isn't a compact phone, should I believe them (anonymous)? they flooding the negative comments on Sony thread and looks like they are won although they never test the phone like you do. Wow! Edit: my little brother (2 years young than me) had a Sony Xperia, it had only 1500 mah, android 4.4 and the optimization was awsome, battery was awsome as well. Then he bought a lenovo with 2000 mah, it is suck! Its average screen on time is about 3 hours.
The loudness of this video was on the lower side compared to other videos. It was difficult to hear on my redmi note 7 under ceiling fan in full speed. Usually it is not a problem. And just now watched an mkbhd video before and was loud. Tried your previous videos too it was loud.

My U.S version 5iii works like a champ! Its Android 12 with 13 update coming. I love it!! Fits perfect in my front pocket. T-Mobile/Verizon signals are awesome. At&t signals suck!

On the end of every Sony review,there is some kind of "this is a great phone to get,BUT there is samsung...." Who cares if sammy phones are cheaper... Xperia lasts longer and it is better (this time for sure. Why don't you just make a REVIEW and not compare to other phones. Make different COMPARISON review...compare in one camera quality. The other video compare battery life,sometime snappiness of the phones....THEN AND JUST THEN say that the sammy (or some other brand) is better buy.
Exactly, they kind of admit the phone is one of the best, but then they remember they have all those Samsung and Apple stocks lying around, so they back off to be cowards and bash the phone here and there for no reason with an emphasized tone, just to make sure the market stays like they wish. Either it's that or Samsung and Apple are extremely pleasant to them when they send their review units and invite them somewhere. Either way it's bias after bias or at least it strongly feels like that to the viewer.
I like Sony alot but Samsung is a beast in the TV/Smartphone market...it has nothing to do with bias...the same way sony is the top dawg at making consoles/cameras/headphones...but their phones and TVs are also a solid 9/10 just not a 10/10 like Samsung
My only Complain with Sony phones are slow charging Now this latest Xperia 5 took 30 minutes for 53% & 1 hour for 80% Total of 2- hours for 100% in 2019 where other brands offering 40 watt 50 watt & dven 65 watt charging technology even in cheaper price... Currently I'm using Huawei's P30 pro & it took just 55 minutes for 0 to 100% with 8/8 hours & 30 minutes of S. O. T or overall 24 hours of back up, I can't even think of using phone which took more then one hour for charging,,, Same complain is with iphones
And in 2 years u only need 30 minutes to charge your Huawei P30 pro from 0 to 100% because of reduced capacity due to bad use. Fast charging to 100% has its price. It is okay if u use i occasionally to charge up to 50% within short time duration to last for remaining day. But charging to full SoC shall be done with lower C-rate, at least if you care about your battery health.
The exercise of constant waiting for the next phone, is pointless because when the next gen comes out you can just wait again to see what the next gen will bring... If people like this phone they shouldn wait for anything...

Because of the optimisation. The processor is also power efficient and the resolution is only Full HD+ which consumes a lot less battery than the 4k resolution in the Xperia 1.

Since when, people started calling a tall 6 inch screen a compact screen size? To me , a less than five inch phone is a compact phone because my fingers can reach every corner of the phone with one hand. I have been searching everywhere to find a manufacturer that makes a really compact, usable, lightweight and productivity Android smartphone. I don't care for multiple or punch-hole cameras, pure view or infinity display and high-end CPU/GPU. The closest phone we can get right now is pixel 3.

@@muhammedsinan3613 I would say go for a newer version of the phone , headphone jack makes a huge difference , and the newer version has a new system that allow the electricity to by pass the battery while charging (save battery life). Also dual speaker is always better in my view. But I haven't tried it out so I am not sure if there is any bug on the phone all that.

The screen to body ratio makes sense to me because most phones such as the iPhone and Galaxy only show a portion of whatever it is your are watching or playing which is really annoying. Videos show up the same way the Xperia 5's screen is shaped so you get a full-video or game showing from the bottom to the top half where the forehead of the screen ends.
There are tons of people complain this Xperia 5 isn't a compact phone, should I believe them (anonymous)? they flooding the negative comments on Sony thread and looks like they are won although they never test the phone like you do. Thanks for the review, hope more in-depth review will show up soon.

Edit: my little brother (2 years young than me) had a Sony Xperia, it had only 1500 mah, android 4.4 and the optimization was awsome, battery was awsome as well. Then he bought a lenovo with 2000 mah, it is suck! Its average screen on time is about 3 hours.

The loudness of this video was on the lower side compared to other videos. It was difficult to hear on my redmi note 7 under ceiling fan in full speed. Usually it is not a problem. And just now watched an mkbhd video before and was loud. Tried your previous videos too it was loud.

Review is not good. You coppy camera section grom XPERIA 1 and that is so bad because XPERIA 5 has different main image sensor without DRAM, so no super slow motion videos at 960 fps. Your info are wrong and fix that.

On the end of every Sony review,there is some kind of "this is a great phone to get,BUT there is samsung...." Who cares if sammy phones are cheaper... Xperia lasts longer and it is better (this time for sure. Why don't you just make a REVIEW and not compare to other phones. Make different COMPARISON review...compare in one camera quality. The other video compare battery life,sometime snappiness of the phones....THEN AND JUST THEN say that the sammy (or some other brand) is better buy.
Exactly, they kind of admit the phone is one of the best, but then they remember they have all those Samsung and Apple stocks lying around, so they back off to be cowards and bash the phone here and there for no reason with an emphasized tone, just to make sure the market stays like they wish. Either it's that or Samsung and Apple are extremely pleasant to them when they send their review units and invite them somewhere. Either way it's bias after bias or at least it strongly feels like that to the viewer.
I like Sony alot but Samsung is a beast in the TV/Smartphone market...it has nothing to do with bias...the same way sony is the top dawg at making consoles/cameras/headphones...but their phones and TVs are also a solid 9/10 just not a 10/10 like Samsung
My only Complain with Sony phones are slow charging
Now this latest Xperia 5 took 30 minutes for 53% & 1 hour for 80%
Total of 2- hours for 100% in 2019 where other brands offering 40 watt 50 watt & dven 65 watt charging technology even in cheaper price...
Currently I'm using Huawei's P30 pro & it took just 55 minutes for 0 to 100% with 8/8 hours & 30 minutes of S. O. T or overall 24 hours of back up, I can't even think of using phone which took more then one hour for charging,,, Same complain is with iphones
And in 2 years u only need 30 minutes to charge your Huawei P30 pro from 0 to 100% because of reduced capacity due to bad use. Fast charging to 100% has its price. It is okay if u use i occasionally to charge up to 50% within short time duration to last for remaining day. But charging to full SoC shall be done with lower C-rate, at least if you care about your battery health.

Because of the optimisation. The processor is also power efficient and the resolution is only Full HD+ which consumes a lot less battery than the 4k resolution in the Xperia 1.

Since when, people started calling a tall 6 inch screen a compact screen size? To me , a less than five inch phone is a compact phone because my fingers can reach every corner of the phone with one hand. I have been searching everywhere to find a manufacturer that makes a really compact, usable, lightweight and productivity Android smartphone. I don't care for multiple or punch-hole cameras, pure view or infinity display and high-end CPU/GPU. The closest phone we can get right now is pixel 3.

You have the worst audio of any big tech youtube channels. Angie at the beginning is barely audible, then the channel jingle makes my ears bleed, and then back to whispering. You guys provide a ton of valuable information, but it blows my mind how you can't get audio levels right after all this time.
