The problem is Alpha team is trained to build a true to life images on a much larger sensor. This drastically smaller sensor + the competitors Innovation in the software department makes it look lackluster.
Sony deliberately cripple their phone cameras so people don't stop buying their Alpha camera range. Sony don't even want the picture quality to be quite close to their Alpha range they want it about 50% worse.
People got use to over saturated pictures so when they see natural images they think it sucks lol, some people are ugly so they need the fake Photoshop images instead of natural look. I tested against note 10 and iPhone, I prefer the images on Sony camera...I'm tied of those fake Sony pictures other phones use.. especially Samsung, the sky is never real
Yeah shame for Sony. I don't know what their marketing team do with their time? However, maybe if it doesn't sell too well they will lower the price! 🤐

I still use a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. Compact phone for EDC, and laptop computer for more power and options. If this Xperia 5 was shorter and better camera I would get it. At least it uses a good processor, SnapDragon 855 (7nm). Good detailed review 👍
I really love the design,i had great experience with 3 xperia before then had to use chinese brand due to low budget which is give me headache in connectivity and touch problem, hopefully i can use a xperia again, the quality, the feel and the hype is far away more better than phone i use now
I have been using the Xperia 5 for two months now and I buy phones predominantly for music and films and I have to say it is spot on in both departments the only issue is that the fingerprint sensor was very dodgy before the android 10 update but seems to be ok now to get decent photos I would definitely switch to manual mode the pictures are far better than point and shoot I the battery life has improved with the update as well I'm not a heavy user and can get 3 days out of 1 charge but I still watch a bit of UA-cam and have a Bluetooth speaker connected all day when I'm in work so for me personally the Xperia 5 is perfect and the size is ideal as I have got girls hands and the side sense works every time even with a case on as there's an option to set it for a case
Still with my old boys, Z5 and T. I have plans to get ether Xperia 5 or XZ3 this year for my bday. My whole family has new phones but I'm suborn as a mule in my decision to stay a Sony user and not fall for any Chinese brands. I'm gonna stop when Sony phones stop!
Xperia 1 form factor is quite unique. It makes for an impressive phone which always catches the attention of others because everyone has a Samsung or an Iphone now a days.
I don't know why, but just can't stop the feeling " that all these XPERIAs all just suddenly became a thing of past " with the NEW BEAST Xperia Mark || ....!!!!
Been there done that, never do it again comes to mind. In a lapse of better judgement I purchased a Sony Experia. 3 months and three repairs later it went back to Sony, The OS had menus within menus the least user friendly phone I've owned. It was a better door stop than phone.
Every company is going to have a bad batch, Sony aing alone. Sorry you got that experience on sony, but I would add also said I encounter similar issue on ad lmost every other manufacturer as well
I love that Sony Xperia phones are not popular,it means they are really cheap this phone is 700 quid on Sony website and I've just bought a brand new boxed Xperia 5 from CEX for 260 quid with 24 month warranty. And I happen to love the phone,it's a huge upgrade from my Sony xz premium which I've just sold after two years use for 100 quid. The thing about Sony's is they use high quality battery's and charging tech, the XZ premium which has had over 700 full charge cycles still had near new battery life last all day five hours screen time, how many two year old phones can do that.Plus Sony generally update promptly, mine 5 is running Android 10 just fine, but gestures can NOT be used with Nova launcher, just standard Sony launcher they work brilliant.
Good review.. A few questions.does this phone gets warm and shut down the camera when you are recording. Is the screen weak like Sony z3 plus. Like for nothing the screen can break. If you drop it and the screen get a small scratch or crack are you able to unlocked.. I'm asking because my z3 plus was a pain in the axx..I had to change the screen 4 times in one year..
Great review. I think they should give up on the side mounted fingerprint sensor since they still can't make them work. It was the reason I went back to the XZ2. It just feels so great in the hand, I don't really care about 21x9, and has better balance, for $239 on ebay. I'm a big fan of your to-the-point videos!
Hi, if I may ask, how's your XZP? Getting problems with my battery as it drops too fast. Had it 2 years ago when my z3 had the same problem until to a point that I can only use it while charging. Now my XZP is showing signs of the same issue.
My ideal compact phone has less than 5 inch display. I am tired of these large screens. I am just waiting for iPhone SE2 hoping it will fit in my hand comfortably.
Very nice review. Would this phone or the Xperia 1 be equivalent to the Xperia XZ3? I still use my XZ3 and I LOVE it. It produces AMAZING pictures that people can't believe it's from a cell phone thinking that i'm using a professional camera which I do have one from Sony.
Just bought this phone, disappointed with the video recordings in that in all modes it judders. Even with image stabilizer on. I notice this in your video clip too. Is this the norm then with this device?
Thank you for the nice test. I'm searching the Best Audio Smartphone for High End Musik with LDAC and aptX HD. 32Bit/384kHz an Headphone output was great. Is the xperia 5 one of the Best High End Audio Phones? Thank you!
Totally agree on 2.00 - Get us all the colors in Europe!! And at 2.38 agree again - unbelievable that they just don't put a fingerprint unlock button on the back - works every time on a Moto for instance!
Cause u using the fingerprint scanner wrong! I use my right thumb as that's most convenient and it's quick and never fails also it's not weird that it's separated from the lock button since u don't want to use a finger print scanner to lock your phone but a lock button the phone opens instantly with the fingerprint scanner with out using the lock button
In terms of battery life, is the Sony Xperia 5 worth a buy? I have an Xperia XA1 Plus at the moment, and after 2 1/2 years, the battery is already bloated.

@@Sub-Kuch13.13 good for u then. My old z1c had battery problem. The battery dropped from 100 to 0 in a few seconds/minutes/hours (depending on my luck i guess) and then i switched to z5 cos i'll be dead if my phone died when working, used it for 4 yrs. With z5, I often had overheat problem, and had to charge more than once in a day. I love the pictures and videos i took with sony, but my job rely heavily on phone, so i thought it is best to replace my z5. But i still have it with me, for fun only. Letting the other phone take charge of the work... :)
I had the same battery problem with the Z1c due to fast charging the phone. So just got a new battery fitted, no more fast charging now... Z5i just slow charge now, if in emergencies I fast charge. Always better too slow charge.
Pretty much summed up my sentiments. I Actually had the 1 and it was gorgeous but unwieldy. So moved to the 5 and it is definitely a great every day phone. The size is PERFECT, screed is gorgeous, and speed is top notch. I use the 1 as a pseudo tablet now. I agree with the camera....blows my mind how Sony can't get the mobile camera right given they have a freaking excellent camera division and make the damn sensors. Can someone from pixel or iphone please make their software for the love of god? As I said, it's my daily phone and I use an actual camera for serious photo taking. As a Sony fanboy, I recommend it. As a non-sony person, I would recommend it at $600 US. BTW I just got the 10 OS a week ago in the sates Love my dark mode on my black phone :)
It make sense for Sony to stick to the format as at least it differentiate them from the rest after years of lacklustre sales in the smartphone business. Personally, I really like the X1 if only it was also good on all areas. Hopefully the follow up will sort it out.

I can't understand why sony isn't killing everyone in terms of camera..... They even had their Alpha team work on it..... Wtf Sony
Their software sucks! I love Sony phones but application department not so much. It's a shame because most company use sony hardware on their phones.
Very Happy with it. Battery, performance, stylish...
Onscreen times ? Could you tell me ?
Got this for 300quid on ebay. Amazing deal. I'm so happy with the ohone.
250-300gbp available in most second hand stores like CEX, unbelievable value.
Awesome phone, I've been working it hard and it just laps it up like milk.
Wow, this phone totally flew under the radar.
Yeah shame for Sony. I don't know what their marketing team do with their time? However, maybe if it doesn't sell too well they will lower the price! 🤐
Sony Xperia 5 IV 🔥🔥🔥
NO bezels , NO top/bottom bezels.
1.0" Camera Sensor 🤯
Pop-up selfie camera 🤯
146x68x8 mm , 160g 🤯
1300 nits screen 🤯
60w charger 🤯
I still use a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. Compact phone for EDC, and laptop computer for more power and options. If this Xperia 5 was shorter and better camera I would get it. At least it uses a good processor, SnapDragon 855 (7nm). Good detailed review 👍
i have sweaty palm, so no matter how good the fingerprint reader is, i have to put 2-3 of the same finger/thumb to get better 80% successes xD
I adore Sony and Xperia!!! All of them!
I really love the design,i had great experience with 3 xperia before then had to use chinese brand due to low budget which is give me headache in connectivity and touch problem, hopefully i can use a xperia again, the quality, the feel and the hype is far away more better than phone i use now
Is Nokia 6.1plus will be the best phone for UA-camrs?
Me too.
Love my old z5i & old z1...
Lol
Xperia 1 form factor is quite unique. It makes for an impressive phone which always catches the attention of others because everyone has a Samsung or an Iphone now a days.
happy with my XZ Premium 2
years completed running very
good.👍
Just got Android 10 in the UK today on my Xperia 5
Hi, have you noticed any improvement in the camera department? Battery life ..etc
@@FortunateLee98I have it,its really good. The Battery life is really good, spent all day in video mode and loads still left.
Sony THE BEST! 💯
You must be new to phones...
That's just your opinion

Great vid mate thanks.... Still on my Z2 but due an upgrade.... Can't decide
Got a brand new one for £300, pretty happy with it so far
4KHDR from Xperia is best on any smartphone. Samsung is joke while handling highlights in video.
Samsung is joke, always.
Watching on my Xperia XZ
Can't wait for the Xperia 1 II ! Please cover it, thanks :)
"Chunky bezels" - Posted from my XZ Premium
Hi, if I may ask, how's your XZP? Getting problems with my battery as it drops too fast. Had it 2 years ago when my z3 had the same problem until to a point that I can only use it while charging. Now my XZP is showing signs of the same issue.
Sony Best Phone Really
My ideal compact phone has less than 5 inch display. I am tired of these large screens. I am just waiting for iPhone SE2 hoping it will fit in my hand comfortably.
Does it?
It seems amazing and great
Excellent review.
The Red One! 😍
Chris is a dwarfer. Good lad. 👍👍😄😄
It's maybe late for this but... If you had to choose between this and a pixel 4 which one would you pick and why?
I love this phone ! 😍
😃
I am thinking to buy a new phone my priority is 1. Photo Quality 2. Battery
I have several possible phones to buy which one would u suggest?
Sony xperia 5
Xiaomi Mi Note 10
Xiaomi POCO F2 Pro
Xioami Mi 9
Xiaomi mi Mix 3
or another below 500USD mark? i know Sony is more expensive but i found a nice deal for it
My Xperia 5 got android 10 last night in the UK. Wooohooo. Great video too
Better now? Faster?
Yes
Thanks for a good review!
One question, the Christmas market, was that shot in Edinburgh?
As a Swede I always want to go back to that amazing market and just get the feeling with all the nice people!
Don't think it was Edinburgh.
How I miss Vienna after watching this!
Got android 10 on my experia1 two weeks ago, plus bought mine for £649 off ee
It looks really good from what I have seen. Reviewers not giving it a fair chance
Sad it's not available in Indonesia... i used z1 compact and z5 dual. Finally have to change to another brand. But sony is still the best. The camera pictures are never over processed and the phone design is beautiful ❤ this is sad, i'm still watching sony review though i just bought another phone.
I'm in UK.
Still using the old Z5i & old Z1.
Still strong and durable...
No problem for 5 years.
@@Sub-Kuch13.13 wow... i guess i'll be more careful with the battery now. Thanks for the tips :)
It looks really good
I think Sony phones are very underrated
I have the opportunity to buy the 5 for £299 hardly used in mint condition, would you say it was buying it now in 2020? Thanks in advance!!! 👍
It make sense for Sony to stick to the format as at least it differentiate them from the rest after years of lacklustre sales in the smartphone business. Personally, I really like the X1 if only it was also good on all areas. Hopefully the follow up will sort it out.
i regret not getting xperia 5 xperia 1 is outdated i was choosing but xperia 5 is better has more lte bands too and contact icon and phone different
Got the red Xperia 5 for 570 euro and im really happy with it. I have had the android 10 update a week or two.
Good stuff
Good deal, that. Arrgghhhh I hate waiting....
Got mine on a 3 year contract total payment is £540 with £220 headphones thrown in.
@@gordy3714 that's a great deal!
@@TechSpurt yeah me too. But I just think phones have got to expensive lol. And to be honest I don't see much wrong with the like of the Moto G series. The 8 plus would get the job done for most people including me
You can get the red version new from eBay for £540 or a refurb mint version can be found for as little as £370
That's a good deal, for the £400-£500 mark it'd be a lot more tempting
Red is the best colour
This will be be my next phone I am getting as I am looking for something from Sony that will do great videos and has decent sound quality without the need for an external mic. Can anyone tell me if this phone has twin mics for video in stereo or is it just mono? Its grand that the video is high quality but it would be let down if the sound appears like it comes from a muffler. Please pardon my ignorance but I am new to all this tech :).
Yes I would buy the Xperia 5 I love this phone but I want to get the Xperia one I'll let me come down in price at the moment because I'm a big Sony fan Mark 👍👍😊😊
You won’t regret it....it’s amazing...I dread the day I have to change..Sony just made a fantastic phone and left it alone , which is exactly what I wanted.
It looks really good. Sony very underrated I believe
Does it have AOD/LED notification indicator? Further, is it getting Android 11?
Is the Xperia 5 good at capturing pictures(i.e. does it have a fast shooter) of moving objects(e.g. a toddler, cat, dog) >=90% of the time blurry free?
