Thank you to the British for a fresh look at Russia. I really hate when you show about Russia something like "vodka", "balalaika", and the like nonsense. I'm really pleased to see a good picture about Russia by Western filmmakers. I hope you enjoy this film too, and our people will be a little better for each other. Sorry for the grammatical errors, if you can find.

Ka Gala, thank you guy/girl for healthy view on that problem. Our media says that you are stupid, but I see that you are smart guy/girl. Excuse me, I can't understand who you are by your nickname)) I think, that any people has its own internal problems. Vodka is internal problem for my people, but I think that the good living person will not drink vodka.I hope they would not arrest me for such thoughts)) In terms about me, I do not like vodka and did not really like alcohol. It's my own feature. Alchohol is like a chemical shit for me. My nation is not bad or good, we are the same as you and any other nation, with its own problems. I welcome the opportunity to practise English with English speaker. But I was assisted by google translate)) Excuse me my errors again please) From Russia with peace))

I visited Russia for the first time in 2016 around the time this series came out here in Britain, and I have since been back to visit again. You have a wonderful and fascinating country and I have made friends for life there. What happens on a political level between nations must be disregarded as best we can so that we can discover instead the values we share. And I have found that there are many in my experience.

+hippotoast All the books both of you have mentioned are part of the literary canon. Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky are no more "elitist" than Joyce and Proust.

    • @BooRadleyTube
      @BooRadleyTube 8 років тому +4

+hippotoast I know. I just mean that all the authors John Doe mentioned, and all the authors you mentioned, land on a list of writers who are generally considered "great." John Doe's comment was probably poorly worded, but we're all basically affirming that there is an "elite." It's just that in writing, it's based on the enduring merit of your works, not the social status of the writer.

When I watched the series 7 years ago, the ending had me en tears. I was in awe and when that beautiful music kicks in with the choir... my reaction was exactly the same, re-watching it 7 years later. Amazing tv series from beginning to end. best cinematography, acting and score I have seen in any tv show. Only rivaled perhaps by Marco Polo, but I think War & Peace was the full package. It wrecked me on an emotional level but it shouldn't be any other way. That is the story of Tolstoy and BBC stayed faithful to it. Thank you!

I'm from mexico, and currently reading war and peace. Something that has amazed me from the book, is that the russian nobility has a lot of similarities with the modern mexican high class. A lot of the situations the nobles get in are pretty much the same problems high class mexicans get into. A lot, but not all. Maybe war and peace is a universal book. greeting from mexico.

Thanks to the creators of the series! This is amazing!

Paul Dano's performance stole the show for me perhaps because his character has the most depth. Great casting, I was surprised to find out that he is an American. Most of the other characters seem fairly one dimensional, almost caricature-like. It is a visually stunning production and very entertaining.

Well... My dear BBC, you scored, I do not know how you managed, but you DO realized the mood I have reading the book... It is not, Hollywood, tries to play russian literature, the way Hollywood understands it, and with cliché instruments it has.
You really did a masterpiece, genius, though a bit incorrect in details, but it's kind of interpretation, which does not play a big role...
With all my love and respect... very pleased and thankful, if somebody after this movie takes a look on russian literature and culture...
