The White Queen: rivalry between Elizabeth Woodville and Cecily Neville.
The White Princess: rivalry between Elizabeth of York and Margaret Beaufort.
The Spanish Princess: rivalry between Catherine of Aragon and Elizabeth of York.
This conflict between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law seems to never end.

It is so weird seeing a young desirable Catherine of Aragon after watching Tudors! But it's true, it is said that no one could beat Catherine of Aragon in her prime, with her red hair and flawless skin. She was the most beautiful woman in England, eldest daughter of the world's most powerful monarchs, and highly intelligent and beloved. So much so that Henry did not discard her, he took her as his wife even though he did not need to! It's just tragic that the story ends horribly when she gets fat/old and loses her looks, and ultimately can't conceive a son that's not even her fault. Henry probably had a disease or genetic disorder that prevented pregnancy in his wives after the firstborn.

My problem with the show is that they made Spain appear to be only luxury and the Alhambra when it was more so based on austerity, religion. It is true Isabel and her children lived in the Alhambra a bit. But they were also often moving around from city to city. Toledo, Segovia. Madrid. Barcelona. Seville. They thus lived in castles quite often. Just ones that were different from the English ones.
Queen Isabel taught her children to be proud of their bloodline. But not arrogant or lazy. I don’t think she would encourage Catherine to take siestas, baths and everything else like that. More common to read, pray. Isabel’s portrayal was okay. But I wish they had Michelle Jenner (the actress of Isabel in the Spanish show: to this day the best historical drama ever in my opinion) play her.

If anyone wants to start this series, here is a slice of truth.
This was announced to change a lot of historical facts, but it's still doesn't go well.If you read the book, please don't watch this it will hurt.
Firstly, they destroyed prince Arthur..made him worse that a fool and his brother the hottest teenager alive(not to mention that he was 13 in reality). The queen was awful compared to reality, the king completely changed(and many others)
Second, her maids have such stupid stories.I understand we need to be inclusive and so on,but the princess didn't have any black ppl with her.The directors need to stop putting other races if it didn'y happen in history at all !
Lastly, the love story is so forced and like any netflix lame drama(bad acting, love stories over night etc). The costumes, decors were also really bad.I don't really have anything positive to say.
If you liked The Tudors or Reign(or read the book) you won't be able to enjoy this show, sadly. It had potential...but it was really bad.

I can't wait this is exciting! I don't care if it's not entirely accurate I watch enough documentaries already. I'm super excite to see young Catherine of Aragon before she's go grumpy like many films and TV shows like to painting her that way. People seem to think Henry was forced to marry Catherine but in fact he is the one who wanted to marry her! even though literally everyone at court disagree with him. They were in madly in love for like 20 years before Henry turn to Anne Boleyn after disappointment of miscarriages.

Now those black subsaharian people have nithing to do on europe in XVI century, is a stupid as to say that in Imperial court of China there were black nobility or white servants or as to say that in Kikongo Kingdom or Ashanti empire where white or asian people. Stop potraying races that is not native to a continent, maybe now by imigration is normal but obviously NOT in those time, every continent and race has their own richness and uniqueness.

Why do they always do this??? Everytime Catherine of Aragon appears in an adaption of Henry VIII and his wives on tv or in a movie, they always have her with dark brown hair. They have her appear the stereotypical modern day spanish person and still not all people from spain have black or dark brown hair to this day. But I guess they do that to not confuse the audience as Catherine had fair complexion and red hair. So I guess it would be confusing if she looked like she was from Ireland or sweden and had a spanish accent, I guess. Also, in tv and movies, they have Catherine appear much, much older than Henry. She was only 5 to 6 years older than he was. So in film and tv, the age they have her at the time of the divorce she looks as the right age as she was in her mid to late 40s but they have Henry appear much younger than her which wasn't the case. He was in his early 40s at that time. At least in this adaption, they have her in her younger more youthful years with Henry. Also, in the Tudors and The Other Boeyln Girl, they have Henry with brown hair, young, handsome, and fit at the time of the divorce. Henry was definitely not young anymore, he was on his way to being severely over weight and he had red hair as well. That always irked me that they portrayed him as a dark hair handsome lean man but historians have stated that in his younger years before she met Anne, that he was lean and fit as he enjoyed athletic sports, and 6 ft to 6'1 ft tall and considered handsome. But again he was a red head. Regardless I am excited for this tv show. I always wanted to see her life!

@@idontgiveafaboutyou The ancient Egyptians weren't sub-Saharan blacks, but North African Semitic populations with ancestors in common with Europeans. Scientists have studied the mummies of ancient tombs and thanks to their DNA they discovered that 3000 years ago the Egyptian populations were homogeneous and in them the sub-Saharan DNA wasn't present. They also discovered that the sub-Saharan DNA in the North African populations is recent, because the more you go back in time, the more it's absent. The ancient Egyptians weren't sub-Saharan blacks and were more 'white' than the present Egyptians. And although they weren't Europeans, they were Caucasians and were native peoples of the Mediterranean. Paradoxically, a European is genetically closer to an ancient Egyptian than an African sub-Saharan black.

AriaLuminosa they weren’t “white”. They may have been Caucasian, most likely Arabic, but they weren’t white skinned Europeans either. Just because they had the features doesn’t automatically mean they were white. Many North Africans have the same features too as Caucasians and they’re not white at all. They’re mostly black and brown.

To suggest or try to portray Europe in any way multicultural then is a complete rewriting of history. What little multiculturalism it would have had would have been by force and they would not be equal nor peaceful with one another either.
We're talking about a time and period where separatism and racism would be at its peak between european countries of the same color/race nevermind those of color. In fact closet thing to black people then would be the the moors and they were of berber and Arabian descent not the sub saharan africans the show and others try to suggest. These same Moors invaded southern europe and had to eventually be forced out by force over time.
They didn't come in peacefully and certainly didn't leave peacefully and any who would've remained which would be very few btw wouldn't be because they were welcomed to stay and certainly not to be treated as equals. Aside from the racial and cultural differences you honestly think they would be welcoming to the same people who invaded them after finally having forced them back out.
Lastly lets not forget the fact that Spanish monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella allowed the colonists of the Caribbean to import African slaves. Vast Spanish territories were a major engine of the Atlantic Slave Trade really sounds like the spanish were real woke, multicultural, and all about equality then huh.

yes all that racism part is true but the moorish are well represented in this time period in spain, so yeah to have bedmaker/chambermaid for catherine represented by a moorish nationality who is black obviously is fine. in this rare case of a show like this it is actually fine loosely historically speaking. not saying that catherine and her maid were the best of friends but yeah it's fine and not completely out of the blue.

Again some woke people within the production staff dug in their heels and wanted people of color to have a more prominent role than they would ever have had during that timeperiod. It portrays a twisted image of the truth simply because they can't stomach said truth. But by forcing this down our throats they hope that future generations look at this show and be stupid enough to believe that this is,how it hapoend for real. It's simply brainwashing and nothing else and i personally don't care for it.

1:25 You'll never see a Chinese TV series on 16th century China cast a dark skinned Filipino or Malaysian as members of the imperial Ming Dynasty. Why? That's because Chinese, Filipinos and Malaysians don't have an inferiority complex about their own distinct history that they feel the need to rob the graves of other cultures to feel "included". If you want to feature Blacks as protagonists in that era, than do a TV series on life in 16th century Africa. This stunt mocks the intelligence of both your White and Black audiences.

You do realize that what I've seen of this story is highly fictionalized. Prince Henry was only 10 when Katherine arrived in England. There was no hot romance between them when he was a boy. And I doubt Queen Elizabeth had much to do with Katherine. After she and Arthur were married, they were sent off to Wales. Arthur died shortly thereafter, and not too long after that, Elizabeth died during or soon after childbirth. Just like the other series about the Wars of the Roses and the Tudors, the writers could have stuck much closer to the actual events and still had very dramatic plots. They didn't and don't have to make stuff up. Same thing with the Cate Blanchett movies about Elizabeth I.

As lonely and as humiliating as her marital life with Henry VIII would eventually turn out to be, at least Katherine of Aragon died a peaceful death, even while in exile in northern England and separated from her daughter Mary then compared to the fates of the women who succeeded her, especially the one Henry divorced and broke with the Vatican over and seemingly broke the power and prestige they'd held in England since early 5th century: Anne Boleyn, who was executed in 1536 by beheading at Old Tower in London. Of all of Henry's wives, the only two I suspect he ever really loved, not just in a lustful, sexual way but in a deeper, emotional way were Katherine of Aragon and Jane Seymour, who finally gave him the son he wanted the most but died about a week later due to supposedly septicemia, at least that's what modern forensics analysts were. Katherine was the wife who Henry was married to the longest and she was far more intelligent and capable of running domestic affairs in his stead while he was away. She was reportedly a very formidable queen, very shrewd, and probably was the most capable in terms of her capacity as Queen to rule then any of her successors. And she was still well liked and highly respected by most English peasants, gentry, and even nobles, even Protestant ones, for her dignity, composure and perseverance after being sent away by Henry VIII after he'd latched on to Anne Boleyn. Anne Bolelyn was never respected or liked by most segments of English populace, peasants, gentry, and some of the nobility while she was queen. Some English Catholic nobles, intellectuals, priests, and later historians even claimed she was a witch or a harlot. The biggest mistake Cardinal Wolsey ever made as Lord Chancellor was denying Anne Boleyns marriage to Harry Pearcy in 1521, she became his bitterest enemy and no one could've known how far she would rise in the next 15 years, but in terms of England's internal stability, religious and social unrest that followed, if Pearcy and Anne Bolelyn are allowed to marry, maybe Henry VIII finds some other mistress and divorces Katherine anyway, but maybe England could've avoided a lot of unnecessary bloodshed, civil wars, Catholic insurgency in the north called the Pilgrimmage of Grace, social and political divisions being drawn up where English and later British Catholics became 2nd class citizens all over British Empire for the next 3 centuries doesn't happen. What's always struck me as ironic is that essentially James I achieved where his mother, Mary, Queen of Scots, failed so spectacularly. Strange how dynastic succession throughout history in some countries progress. James I started a new royal dynasty, but he might've been the first English monarch to look beyond British Isles and establish an imprint on the larger world. In essence, he was in the empire-building business and even though it didn't happen for another century, James I was the first modern British monarch in that he envisioned a large, multinational trading, colonial Empire that eventually encompass 1/5th of world's population by 1900. It was during James reign the first English colonies were set up successfully in New World and in India, a multinational English monarchy became a major trading power, along with the Dutch throughout the 17th century and beyond. The first signs of modern pre-industrial economy that led to UK being labeled the "Workshop of the World" came into being under James in such a way that it would've seemed inconceivable to men like Henry VII or Henry VIII a century before. He even was an accomplished theologian who presided over a major eucemincal conclave where the most well-known, most read bestselling book in the English language was written, the King James Bible.
