I love mine. I’ve gotten most of the “tuning” parts for it off AliExpress and it has the loudest drag clicker which I like. It looks sick. My thumb fits right in that groove on the top front too. I’ll be enjoying mine for years.
I much enjoyed your review, and your enthusiasm of presentation. I have been considering this reel after hearing so much praise about it - how it performs and great looks is always a plus! My one reservation and perhaps I'm being a bit silly about it, but Daiwa doesn't dish out a bunch of info on line capacities on this reel. Some sellers are listing (for mono/FC which I prefer over braid) 85yds of 16# and 100 yds of 14#. Other sellers I have seen 100 yds of 8# and 80 yds. of 10#. I tend to think that the former would be more reasonable. But even if that is true and the latter is simply wrong, still that would seem to be a very low capacity , maybe even for a standard 100 size casting reel? I was thinking of getting the 6.3 ratio for small (3-4") swimbaits and smaller to mid-size crankbaits (maybe 3xd, was hoping 5xd), but with that small a spool I'm not sure this would be a good choice for those applications. What are your thoughts about line capacity, and any suggestions regarding my concern would be much appreciated. Otherwise I might bite on the 7.1:1 ratio for more bottom contact like mojo plastics, Trigs and the like! I've just subscribed to your channel because I like your content and style of presentation. I'll be checken out some more of your material.
I have one JDM and I love it it cast a mile with 1/4 jig great reel all JDM reels are better the us sorry but it's the truth I buy only JDM now and I'm glad I made the move
Jdm can sometimes come with slightly higher grade bearings but in the case of this reel, the main gear and pinion are aluminum on the JDM version while the North American has brass. Aluminum is lighter but brass is more durable and smoother.
I have the JDM model also. It’s my only Daiwa baitcaster. My Metaniums (also JDM) cast a little further and palm a little better but I’m really happy with the Zillion. The ultra low inertia smoothness on a different level. It even surpasses my Calcutta Conquest 100
Love the channel Nick. Keep up with vids man, watching them keeps me sane in the world we live in today. I have both the jdm zillion and metanium, but I find myself grabbing the zillion over the metanium just for the fact that it is so versatile and it has the clicky drag!
The metanium imo is smoother, but I don’t want to take the side plate off the reel in the middle of lake to adjust the brakes when changing lures. If I’m striper fishing with a 1oz plug then switching to a 1/8 oz rooster tail for white bass, all I have to do is adjust the brake dial on the zillion. That to me is awesome.
I have both of those reels and find myself using my Metanium much more. It’s a bit more expensive $$$$ but well worth it! I love them both though…. Great video! Oh, and I agree about casting distance being beaten in the ground. So many more important aspects to a good quality & high performance reel 👌🏻
The Zillion is better. The spool is better, the drag, the drag clicker, etc. Much easier to throw a variety of lighter and heavier weights without much adjustment needed. That being said, my metanium excites me more. The Zillion is like a Toyota Camry, reliable A to B transportation. The metanium is like a 6 speed manual corvette
If your catching redfish with it then obviously the aluminum gearing is plenty tough and durable. Also, right now you can pick up the JDM zillion sv for about $250.
Just bought a JDM version on the 14th. Really excited, I doubt the bearing make much a difference but with the jpy to usd being low, I couldn’t spend 370 instead of 250 even if brass bearing were wayy better. In your advice though, how should I maintain my bearings, like should I lube them once a year instead of 2 cuz the aluminum?

Hey Nick love the content. I own a couple of these reels because I wade fish 90% of the time. My Shimanos seem to get sticky after a couple trips and then I'm replacing the pinion bearing (ceramic). With these being expensive I'm a little worried about wading with them. Thoughts on this since I know you wade as well?
I’ve wade fished with this reel a few times but mostly kayak fish. With any reel, I try to avoid getting as much saltwater into them and immediately wipe down them with a damp cloth at home. So far, no issues with the amount of spray and general saltwater after each use.
Nice reel! Do you think it would take a beating from a decent size inshore saltwater fish? Lets say a 7kg fish. Planning to get one. But im just not sure if it would take a beating from decent size fish here in New Zealand. Of course apart from proper aftercare, would the gears and bearings last? This Zillion 21 is a pretty well known reel so I figured you guys might have a good idea of what would work here. Thank you!
Maybe I’m a shimano fan, I own an absurd amount of reels from 6 different manufacturers.
