i feel bad all the players involved in this trade, Divo getting traded before getting to play ball with his homies, Randle who helped kickstart this change for the Knicks not being able to see it through and KAT after making a WCF run.

Unnecessary for the wolves because it doesn’t solve any cap issues until after this year, and it’s a definite downgrade fit wise, but for the Knicks I think it makes complete sense.
They looked their best without Randle, the addition of Mikal made Randles fit on this roster a question, and losing Hartenstein means they desperately need a center. Now they have an all star PF/C

It was necessary if the Knicks and Randle weren't coming close on a contract extension. Also, with THIS team, Randle didn't really fit. His ISO bully ball won't work in their pick and pop offense.

I don’t get why people are acting like this is a big deal. Yes he was a role player who over performed in the playoffs, so was Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent. You shouldn’t put much stock into that especially when Mikal is taking Donte’s starting spot as is.

This trade feels like a lose-lose to me, I do not see the reason for this trade
It seems like a Knicks to me. They looked their best without Randle on the court last year and his fit with this new roster is questionable to say the least. Trading him now is likely max value especially with his contact situation.
Donte’s minutes are already replaced with the addition of Mikal and OG being healthy.
Not to mention, they needed another center. They can afford to start KAT at center during the regular season and then in matchups with teams like the bucks or 76ers they can go big with Brunson, Mikal, OG, KAT, and Robinson and that’s elite rebounding, perimeter defense, and spacing!

I don’t know how much of this trade was because of Randle or because of Naz Reid. Because if there is one thing Reid proved is that he could easily be a starter. But I don’t think Randle would be happy to come off the bench. Reid and Towns kind of played a similar role so I could see the thought being that Reid was enough. I think there is a chance Randle only plays there till the trade deadline and is dealt again.

Randle is such a worse fit. He demands the ball more, spaces the floor less, and isn’t any better at defense than KAT is.
This feels like a train wreck to me. Randle is a very emotional player, when things aren’t going well he really really shows it and that includes not getting the ball enough. He’s known as the peak example of a body language guy. Shots aren’t falling and suddenly he’s slumping his shoulders and not playing defense, I don’t think that meshes with ant.
Not to mention the spacing of playing Randle and Gobert together… say goodbye to Anthony Edwards attacking the rim because people will let Randle shoot, but they stay home with KAT.

What depth they lost? It was a 2 for 1 trade, they lost *one* player of that made them lose their depth it means they never had it in the first place. Also they had no centers, they needed one.

Together they’d be 75 mil off the books and no kat.
This would allow you to resign naz and go big game hunting with a young core with the next face of the league as bait.
In an ideal world I’m sure they’d have liked to run it back but the ability to move kats money for randles which comes off with goberts after this year meant it had to happen now.

They woulda been better off dumping Goberts salary than doing this. I’m sorry but what Gobert does for this team is great, but it’s pretty replaceable. If you replaced Rudy Gobert with Daniel Theis, this team doesn’t get much worse. And Daniel Theis is the “we can’t trade for anybody and nobody wants to sign here” option.
But KAT? What he did for this team by being virtually a second center defensively while being one of the best floor spacers in the league on offense… I don’t think people realize how big of a downgrade this is despite Randle being not much worse than KAT in a vacuum.
It’s not just about talent, it’s about fit. If you swap Jokic and Embiid on each of their teams, BOTH TEAMS GET WORSE! Randle doesn’t fit what the wolves do. The whole reason they were winning with Rudy was because their ability to space the floor around him, Randle can’t do that.

Naz, Jaden and Ant ball out when they are on the floor together. Without Naz we would have not made it to the playoffs since KAT was out on injury.

Nba is all about business, yes the Nova brotherhood is a thing to watch but looking at bigger picture,Knicks gettting KAT is definitely an upgrade, is good that now the Eastern conference competitiveness had increase since moving KAT and Paul George
It was super expected that the wolves would trade KAT to save money. This makes sense and might even make them better because they had no one off the bench to bring scoring (trust Rob as a rookie is harsh), but Donte is a legit scorer that can play 1-2 next to or not next to Ant
I think that the bench just got a lot better for Minnesota for sure bringing in a guy like devincenzo, to play with Naz, nickel, dillingham, Shannon jr and Joe ingles, also Julius isn’t a bad shooter just isn’t great 33% the past 2 years, and a guy who can put up points as a wolves fan I remember him almost putting 40 on us on New Year’s Day!
I understand it for the knicks and the wolves. potential ego issues with jalen and julius, julius being fairly streaky and injury prone, get a more consistent player. T wolves want a player that matches the dog in anthony edwards, looking for toughness in the paint. I think the knicks won the trade but its not a bad trade for the wolves either especially with tay.

My takeaways from this:
-The new CBA is ruining and will continue to ruin the great teams of this decade (the nuggets and wolves now, Celtics next, probably Philly/OKC/NY will prematurely blow it up after that).
-this is a no brainer for the Knicks. Instant improvement and trading Randle now is max value with his contract situation. Donte was great but don’t forget they’re replacing him with Mikal Bridges lmao.
-the wolves are gonna be a train wreck. I think KAT was extremely necessary to win with Rudy Gobert in his current form.
-it’ll be interesting to see how the lakers will be able to afford the Anthony Edwards trade in 2026.

It's quite a significant savings for the Wolves. $8.8 million less in salary and since they way above the luxury tax line, they will save just under $40 million in taxes as well. So $49 million is a substantial amount of savings.

Not worried about KAT defensively, OG and Mikal are so good they can invert the whole idea of an anchor center, they anchor the defense from the wings. But man Julius came here when no one else would, took the Knicks from being a laughing stock to a legitimate threat, gave everything he could, hurts.
