I'd like newer Floodgates to be easier to out and be less oppressive. Etude of the Branded is a nice example. Requires a Bystial monster on the field and the floodgate effect only applies to monsters used as tributes for synchro/link etc. Pretty well designed honestly. Then we have nonsensical cards like the Mayakashi floodgate trap that doesn't adhere in anyway to the Mayakashi strategy and is a literal turn ender, dear lord...

Honestly, without Floodgates we would not need mass backrow removal in the game, but the more they print out the more they're necessary. It's kindof like a self fulfilling prophecy of hate. They could probably fix it by making them their own types and limiting the amount you can have. Really great discussion!

The issue is not so much floodgates but the lingering effects. At least with floodgates once it's out, you're free to play but if a lingering effect is not answered immediately, you have to bother it untill it wears off. Thanks but no thanks.

Maybe i dont understand his reasoning but why is ultimate offering considered a floodgate?

You're definitely right. I double checked the banlist before posting and added Royal Oppression, and got caught up and accidentally added Ultimate Offering. You're right. Definitely not a floodgate haha
