I remember seeing this implosion on television. I just turned 9 years old. I was mistaken in what I thought was imploded. It was actually buildings that were imploded. Incredible that the construction of the mall only took a year and a half before opening October 1993. What was more incredible was that, for its original intent, the walkway to The Globe lasted a mere 6 months before The Globe closed for good, a department store which I do remember. And I do remember the insane bustle in Scranton in and around the mall after it opened. It lasted for quite some time.

Those were beautiful buildings. I doubt this implosion would’ve have been promoted or allowed today.

They're still tearing down Historic buildings all over the area. There's also a massive string of arsons in Scranton that isn't being reported in ANY of the media, which should tell you that someone powerful is behind it. Oh, yeah. Scranton fire code states that when a house burns down, the lot has to remain vacant FOREVER. They're intentionally downsizing the city. I've been trying to push common sense reforms on the government like reliable public transit and simple things like fucking sidewalks and street lights. They won't even respond to my emails. The local government is actively opposed to making this a better place to live. Call the mayors office. It always goes to voicemail and if you leave a voicemail, they don't call back. We have the highest tax rate in the entire country and they constantly claim that they can't afford basic amenities. Where's the money going?

It's infuriating to see people so happy and excited over the destruction of their own city.

it's cool to see old footage of my own local area from back way before i was born.
sucks though that today the mall isn't what it used to be.
from once a time a happy place, candy and toy stores were there.
now all that remains are the storefronts of such places, with only one reminder of what the mall truly was.
a place by the name of "Nick D's". selling video games of almost all kinds.
steamtown has gone down with the mall, having lost things and visitors recently. now to takeover the mall is geisinger and their stuff.

Downtown malls were already dying all over the country. All they had to do was the most basic research.

What are you talking about the mall did great for so many years it's not doing great now today but back in the 90s that place was booming used to be one of my hangout spots where I would meet my family members when we were on Foster Care

@@DJTasawennatekenOfficial you're missing the point. They tore down Historic buildings to construct an ugly, bland, unremarkable mall that stayed in business for a mere 20 years.

Tore down old building, put up a mall that was extremely profitable for the city and surrounding areas until the great Mall Crash of the mid-2010s. This isn’t sad it’s called progress. They weren’t heritage building nor did they have such magnificent architecture in which they should’ve been protected. This is how society continues to move forward.

My Grandpa worked in the Home Furniture Building for 60 years, I and one of the other ones, I am not sure which one for 5 or 10 years, I never knew My Grandpa, He was Born in 1897.. Does anyone have any more information on these Buildings, When they where built, What if anything was there before them? What they looked like inside? When My Grandpa worked there any pictures from that time frame? I was 8 years old then, I knew it was going to be sad and the Mall would bring in less Money.

This was not needed. - it was 10 minutes away from the Viewmont Mall, a mall which is still doing okay. The Steamtown Mall ruined the vibe downtown.
