The Globe used to be magical at Christmas time. As a child I loved the display windows and the toy department would have a whole floor with Santa. It is sad the kids of today won't be able to experience that.
Best days of my life ! Going with my grandmother down the globe ! Taking the bus from the hill section ! Christmas was the best ! What a job they did decorating the front and inside! Happy times ! 70's were the best !😊😊😊
@userjghs897 Yes I knew dolly ! Actually hung out with mike and randy ! Jimmy to ! Hung out with Lynda ! Went to high school with her ! The whole family! Good people great times ! Peace !
My dad would take us every year to see the Christmas decorations and we always went past the globe store and the Scranton dry goods. The window displays were fabulous
Thank you so much for sharing this video.....It took me back to when I was a young lad and allowed me to reminisce on days that were filled with good manors, proper decorum, and kinder and easier times....
I remember The Globe. I was only 11 years old when it closed but remember visiting it several times. I still have the top hat and dress coat that I got there when I was young. I always sensed a difference between it and stores like Boscov's, and this segment really illuminates it. I grew up at the tail end of a declining age where taste, style, and community mattered. It's sad to see how things are today and how soulless they are. Thanks for sharing.
Unfortunately it was too expensive for my family to shop there .it was a dream land at Christmas time. I remember it well .i was born and raised in Scranton.
There was a saying to express gratitude or to express little faith that someone was able to make an achievement; “I’ll kiss your a$$ in the Globe Store window.”
This was a wonderful profile of the Globe department store. Unfortunately, the department store has gone the way of the dinosaur. A way of life never to return.

My grandmother used to love the globe store, she was also the original owner of Dolly’s boutique in the hill section!

My dear friend and radio mentor, Gene Free, was the Voice of Globe Store commercials for many years!
It was a better time and a MUCH better shopping experience. It's a world that's gone and we are poorer for it.
Nice memories
Long days sometimes
The sales personnel were well dressed and so were the customers
"And never leave Scranton" oh man the thought of that is horrifying.
"The globe store wyoming-avenue in downtown scranton pa circa january-1964 to may-1970 memories of the globe store".
