So happy for Jmook, From LOSERS side too. He's only been improving and climbing since the breakout genesis performance and every match of his has been so hype to watch. CONGRATS JMOOK!
It’s looking like Jmook’s year, and I’m here for it. Imma need Hbox to step up and stop losing to foxes though, cause I wanna see if Jmook’s ready to slay his bracket demon. Also, has Zain EVER won in a reset grands before? I wanna see him succeed, but it feels like he might be the least clutch top player ever when the stakes are highest.
I think he's done it once back in 2021, with SCL S2W4. Mango won the first set in game 5, and then Zain won 3-0 in the second set. He also won a reset vs S2J at Four Loko Fight Night in 2021, though that was from a loser's run. But it's usually tough when Zain gets sent to losers or reset :(
Zain overcame 1 of his bracket demons. Now he has to do another. He'll be #1 again. But i love living in a timeline where Jmook is #1. Even if he hasn't been playing Hbox lol.
Melee finally feels like it's entering the era of neutral. Sheik CCing dtilt for the 46% combo, Marth cold up-B for the kill, commentators saying "that's Safe!?" on Sheik uptilt. Melee's never been this fast nor technical before, but I can finally start to connect the dots to other fighting games.
Jmook mindset completely changed this tournament. In general he had more fun, was still committed to the drive of needing to win, but didn't spiral when he had some harsh SDs or Zain pulled out a quick on one him. He smiled more and stressed less. Finding that balance of tournament and couch when you're playing a tournament is huge and it looks to me like jmook found that this tournament. Interested in seeing more now. He's growing a lot
Great set from Jmook and Zain 🎉 Watching them play is just as exciting as a fox v falco set. The amount of talent, passion and respect in this set is a showcase of the wonderful melee community. Congrats to Jmook 🙏🏼
Well after seeing Jmook win from winners and losers side consecutively with solo sheik, there's only one thing for us to say. There is so much more melee to be played
Incredible stubbornness/tunnel vision to counterpick FD a fourth time after losing there 3x in a row. Zain was playing so much better with platforms. Jmook thrives on tech chasing on flat surfaces like FD. Platforms seemed to disrupt his tech chasing and get Zain out of disadvantage sooner. I think battlefield, yoshi's, or FOD would have all been great.
The commentary in that first game had me laughing so hard, "He dropped his wallet?" 😆 comment had me laughing so hard alongside the, "and it's great... for jmook? yeah it's great for jmook." 😆 I got to admit his Sheik game is insane, there are so many innovations and when he is on point with his ledge trap it's actually ridiculous how quick he can make those decisions to just pick the right move it's ridiculous how quick he decides and executes.
The falling upair > dj upair on side plat punish from jmook is new but how is it better than fairing marth off stage or even waveland grabbing? Is it bc of slideoff?
Is it me, or does zain need someone like captain crunch to help him improve in clutch situations? I feel like he’s very frequently ahead and then crumbles under pressure
Can someone explain the ledge interaction where Zain recovers on to stage, and Jmook was slow on the ledge drop fair several times--there's no way he was simply too slow to react right? He must've been looking for something else, like a dair opportunity/checking to see if Zain grabbed ledge?
He was reading zain fading back to ledge and holding on so zain wouldn't be able to grab ledge. He got it at as the first kill of the set but zain wasn't giving it to him afterwards
When Marth lands from his up b, he’ll go into a slight crouch and then stand animation before being actionable. Jmook was waiting for the stand animation in order to reliably land the reverse fair. It’s a very tight window of time for a very tight reverse hit box. Not surprised he mistimed it a few times.
As long as there isn't a jmook check or counter he'll continue to easily win, it's like what Axe was to Zain, Zain was being written to always face Axe and lose, most of the time twice. And now as long as hbox isn't there to cheese jmook he'll continue to win stuff
HBox reset bracket vs Jmook at Wavedash 2022 and Plup reset bracket vs Magi at CEO 2022. There may have been another reset but it’s not coming to mind atm
