this tourney was insane. it was a reminder of how much of a beast the "veterans" of melee still are. in the form of a comeback of wizzy for falcon mains and plup's sheik, in an era dominated by the zain, cody, and jmook trifecta
also a testament of how much a backcatalog of good players Melee has, retired or not i started to watch melee after Covid, so i have to remind myself that both Plup and Wizzrobe has had lucrative careers and were considered top 5 in the world these man are killers
jmook has still been doing vey well for himself, it's just that winning Genesis 9 and Collison along with being the newly crowned #3 in the world is a very high standard in which he is struggling with as a new top tier competitor both mentally and result-wise

Its impossible to differentiate between Sheiks tech back and tech in place in time to react, right? pretty sure thats why its hard for C Fal. He basically just has to read
Wizzy kept missing his dash back. It’s more difficult for falcon to dash out of crouch than for other characters. The moment you notice wizzy do a standing grab during a tech chase is when the dash back messes him up.
I love this matchup. I feel like its honestly pretty even nowadays, maybe I give a slight advantage to Sheik still but its so close and doable now for Falcon. Both characters can edgeguard the other with rinse and repeat tactics and combo each other so hard. I think if both players are even skill level its really going to come down to who tech-chases better.
If I had a nickel everytime Plup and Wizzy met in grand finals at a major, beating out other top 10 talent, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
Wizz got some weird mannerisms. It's either his forehead is tilted too far down or his chin is about to poke someone in the eye. No idea how he can play with extreme facial tilts
