For those wondering, 1 inch = 2.54cm = 25.4mm. (10mm = 1cm) So that sieve of ½mm mesh = 0.019685in = 19.685/1000in
Just use the metric system for tiny stuff! :)

Your journal makes what you're doing science. Good work. You're more than just a hobbyist, you're a biologist. Good work and great video.
I'd like to stay modest when it comes to sharing information that i cant back up with a grade/certificate hahaha. Much appreciated tho 🙏🙏
Finally I been looking for years for a video like this. I always wonder how to collect tri eggs but had no luck of actually how. But thanks to you're discovery I know how, Thank man your amazing.

How much would you sale
Great video ! Hope you continue enjoying the hobby and making video about it ~
I went down to a nearby river with a kitchen sieve and sifted through the river sand to get only the large grains. It’s still sand, just maybe 1-2 mm grain size. I feel like this is the best of both worlds especially since I’ll be sifting eggs out.
Awesome video, I'm so glad I watched this before starting my Triops eggs going. I will order some gravel as soon as I finish writing this. One question, if I sieve the gravel before I put it in the tank then only eggs would then fall through at the end? This has been the best video about Triops that I have found on UA-cam, I have spent a few weeks watching a few videos a day to find out a bit more about them as I had wanted to try them, thank you for sharing your knowledge and I think I will be adding my name to your list of happy customers soon. Peace, love, unity and Triops from Cornwall, uk.
Awesome! Sorry I havent noticed your comment before! Yes I actually pre-sieve the substrate so less smaller gravel particles will pass at the Extraction moment. 🙏
I wish you a great experience, good luck with your future colonies!

Thank you so much! I have been trying to hatch triops on and off for the last 15 years,(yep, i know, judge me if you want) only had 2 succesfull grown to adult. I saved some of the sand of the last one from 3 years ago. Thanks to your method, i today managed to filter out eggs from the sand i still kept .10 teaspoons of sand produced about 9 egges! I am once again eager to try out this hobby. Thank you so much, hartelijk dank !!! :)

hmm this is more like a Triassic farm instead of a Triassic park xD good job
You sir, are a scientist
Some black gravel is magnetic. you may be able to use a magnet to remove the rest of the small gravel. if not pick up some magnetet gravel. and use a magnet :)
Hi, umm where did you get the vacuum from? I plan to breed my triops too.
@7:38 The eggs are attached to the rocks. So you want them to become 'detached' from the rocks.
Thanks for the help, mine will be dried 2 weeks and hopefully this time they will hatch (probably they will because I didn't deep froze this batch to death)
Freezing your eggs seems to give a better hatching rate by giving them an artificial winter-period. But tbh, I havent done this because freezing slightly wet eggs may crack them open. So thats why I dont use the freezing method. Also, I got several "exotic" species that come from countries where it almost never freezes so....
New to triops I normally only reef keep, I ordered eggs from germany and they shipped in freezing temps the whole way to canada I thought they were garbage. But I'm assuming the freezing isn't a bad thing by what I'm seeing here.
Heel mooi en informatief gepresenteerd, ga dit bij de mijne later ook doen :)
Great vid mate
Thank you 🙏
Hi I love your videos, I was just wondering what brand of black gravel do you have? Lots of them say they bleed into the water and kill the animals
wat een geweldige video's heb je!
Thank you so much!
Once you collect your eggs how do you dry them out? Is there any danger of getting mold or bacterial growth on the eggs?
Great video and channel :D Now i regret buying a few kilos of sand :D I might actually switch to gravel cause i don´t have much success extracting the eggs from my sand. Are you happy with the size of your gravel or would you change to a smaller/bigger one?
Very happy, 1-4mm mixed colors is definitely my favourite atm
Leuke video's!
Where did you buy your vacuum cleaner?
Hey, So I managed to get 4 Longicaudatus Triops out of a pack of 50. They are currently at day 6, and will be introduced to my 35L tank come day 14 when they are big enough. I was wondering, How often do I need to collect their eggs? is this a once a month? or weekly gravel check? This is the first time for me.
Hey samantha, when they reach adulthood you can see their egg-sacs filling up.
Once the eggs are laid, they need to stay submerged for at least 4 days to develop.
After that you can start scooping sand+ eggs out, removing them with a vacuuming tool or wait till the colony has died to remove all eggs at once 🙏
@@TriassicParkTriops is it ok that I can do this once a month? Without them hatching? My 4 are now approaching 7days old now. 🥰🥰
As far as I know they only lay eggs once and then die and the eggs will not start hatching unless dried out. So you actually do it only once after all four are dead. But it is only the information I collected and I am only planning to start with them.
@@peterk.6093 They lay eggs multiple times, maybe once per day from around one week of age until the end of their lives.
oh here!
I liked it very much and we will be like that too.

Stay safe, stay strong. 👊🙏
Cool
I have a question, how much does Triop's eggs filter here?
Do you think this would be even easier if you sieved the gravel before putting it in the tank so that any small particles won’t be in the tank? Theoretically, there will be nothing but eggs the second time you sieve it.
what are the largest breed of triops...and how big do they get
Longtail tadpole shrimp, they reach up to 4 inches
Didn’t know you were a fellow pipe smoker 😁
Yes yes, now and then.... Now and then :)
On the TriopsKing website it says to freeze the eggs after they are thoroughly dried. Do you freeze your eggs or store at roomtemp? Is there really a benefit to freezing the eggs to simulate winter?? Thanks
I personally dont, i store them dried at room temperature. There is a risk that the eggs will actually crack if there is any water still in the eggs walls.
Captivating video all the way to end.

Do you have many species?
Can they all tolerate 27°+
I was hoping to put some in outdoors and simulate natural habitat, however the water often warms up...
1. Would this be unadvisable
2. In an outdoor environment pond or aquarium will additional light be necessary, and indoors will it be necessary to have lamp over the triops as additional heating is a non issue, is light quality, colour an issue?
where did you get the gravel vacuum cleaner?
At our local fish-store, Its a basic vacuüm cleaner
hello can you ship them to niagara falls i would love love to buy some off you?
how many eggs does each triop lay on average? thats a hell of a lot of eggs to have accrued in under a year
An adult Triops usually lays between 50-100 eggs a day, with a large mixed 70+ triops colony I bred a large part of my current stock. This was a really challenging colony size that really made me reconsider the amount of eggs I use these days.
@@TriassicParkTriops what is the minimum size tank youd recommend for an adult colony? space is limited in my flat but im eager to get some for breeding
@@Baconnassassin1999 a 60l is great for a Nice colony! Triops adults need 1-4L per adult 🙏 So just make sure you calculate upfront. 1L is a bit low on space tho, but its possible. I recommend 2-4 at least 🙏
Can I use a coffee filter to filter the eggs?
Iv'e tried some times but It always keeps tearing apart. Depends perhaps on the quality of the filter aswell. A nylon Panty can be used aswell ;)
What gravel do you use?
2-4mm black gravel ( quartz)
So, looks like you wait until the gravel is dry before you sift for eggs, but then you put in water to further separate the eggs from the gravel... but, couldn't this cause a hatching experience all over again? I wonder if a small ice cube or two thrown in the water would help if one works too slowly?
Im not 100% sure anymore but i think i mentioned in the video that i was using colder water to prevent hatching.
On the other side: the eggs are only wet for about 2-3 hours as I process the harvest in 1 "shift" to prevent any quality reduction. For that reason, hatching isnt possible as this could take up to 16 hours 🙏
How many mm big is your gravel? I have 6-8mm and I'm a bit nervous it's too big for the triops and might damage the eggs.
Probably wont damage the eggs, but yes this is unfortunately way too big for Them to dig in, you can also add the same size like me: 1-4 mm in different Dark colors like black, gray, brown, anthracite Just as an example. Fine sand is possible aswell, but im not a fan of it 🙏
@@TriassicParkTriops Thank you for the fast reply! Is it necessary for a darker gravel or just depends on preferences? + I am a bit curious about triops hunting behavior. I haven't found any website or article that discusses it. Is it possible for my triops to hunt down for example, a guppy?
@@aerosma5021 Hey, Good questions.
Tbh, I really like Dark gravels, because you can see your Triops better on it than a earthly color wich the triops can blend into. Also, I van spot the orange/red eggs easier, and during summer the black gravel is the dried the fastest due to its overall black color 🙏
The hunting behaviour is more stimulated by worms, larvae and weak critters. A healthy guppy would not be on the menu (yet) Is what I think. Ive never had any other Shrimp or fish with them, so I honestly cant tell 100% for sure if they are compatible companions
The gravel I’m getting is 1/8 mm will the triops dig and lay eggs?
@@sokritlun1624 1-4mm is fine enough for digging where 5-8mm is too large 🙏🙏
It's not really clear to me how you seperate the sand from the eggs, because the sieving didn't work right?
Aye, sieving makes no sense with sand. However: sand does sink and the eggs do float so that part of the method should be valid
@@TriassicParkTriops Ah thanks!!
I heard of these creatures years ago, they live in tropical rice paddies and are beneficial to the farmer.
I know now they are world-wide, tropical desert and cold.
How many species do you breed? And for what climates
Cheers
Hey Jack, excuse me for the late reply. Much happened the last months unfortunately!
We have about 10+ species in our egg-bank but mainly one species alive at a time, except for mix colonies when we're trying to let some species live together :)
@@TriassicParkTriops
Which ones will survive in year roúnd warmer climate ? Tropical Philippines

Thanks for answering
How do you separate triops poo from gravel and eggs?
You don't xD Detritus is good for hatching the eggs, anyway.
Funny, you vaccuum cleaner is identical to the one I had in the 80s!!!
Thats awesome, I wasnt even born then!
How about draining your entire tank to just above the substrate. Let the substrate fully dry out in two weeks, and fill with water again. Stir the substrate rougly and the eggs should start floating on the water.
Would this be a viable method?
That's a 100% viable method in my opinion. Its also the most closet to nature and will feature lots of detritus and beneficial bacteria in the used substrate. I simply like to collect the eggs in vials so I can use and sell them pure wich enables egg-dosing to have control over your colony size ;)
The amount of hatching Triops from a small tank+ previous succesfull colony could end up hatching hundreds of them at once when using the first method.
🙏
@@TriassicParkTriops I meant to collect the eggs from the water surface :)
Have you ever tried harvesting fairy shrimp eggs with this technique?
I havent kept fairyshrimps yet ( on a harvesting base)
How do we buy these eggs
Totaly do that thing of keeping old eggs to hatch later
It's said that Triops eggs can stay dormant for 25 years and more. I'm doing research by saving old eggs to try and Hatch them in 25 years aswell, Just to bust the myth or confirm it.
is rainwater ok for them?
I always use rainwater for the hatcheries! I do use a blend of tapwater and R/O water for the maintank to at least give them some minerals :)
how did i get here
I have no clue, but I hope you enjoyed the ride
