I just started hatching these shrimps a few days ago, but I'm worried about them growing too large.. What's the average size of the adults? I think I got the same species as yours.
Mine was less than an inch
4 cm for brine shrimp

From what I understand, once the colony dies off, you can drain and dry the tank then use the eggs that your culture produced. I hope I get to try fairy shrimps soon..
Hi, you are welcome. Yes for Fairy shrimps that is how you grow/hatch the eggs, the eggs actually needs to be dried out completely to simulate like in nature. Due to this, it is harder to source for fairy shrimps egg as compared to brineshirmp eggs, brineshrimp is more straight forward to get the eggs to hatch
@@TheStreamAffair you're right, brine shrimp would be much more accessible. There is also a site called greenwater farms that ships almost everywhere; they have daphnia and fairy shrimp eggs
@@SouDeePop i still couldnt get to hatch my Monia eggs, not sure what is wrong. I would love to get my hands in the giant fairy shrimps. They can really grow and the size is pretty huge!!

Hi there..its just normal baker's yeast..yes its "powdered" form and u add water to activate it. If u dont want to use yeast..u can try to feed them using greenwater (algae) too. Their color will change slightly depending on the food they consume.

If you collect the fresh eggs from the bottom of the tank, how long do they need to be dry before you can hatch them?
I didnt try it..yes for fairy shrimps eggs you need to dry it to simulate like in nature where the pool will become dry and when comes the next raining season, the pool will again fill up with water and the eggs will absorb the waters and the cycle starts all over.

Good science! It seems, once the females in the colony are berried, in a conventional tank, it would be their 'final end', because eggs need to be harvested, then hatched in a dry environment. As they have short lives, they'd NEED to breed for their 'colony' to continue.. I suppose, it's a 'colony mentality' keepers need to juggle.. I was wondering- 1) For a normal tank, would the inclusion of a sand bed, plants, more salt after 20 days, ensure their generations to continue? 2) Also, would more water agitation, (from say, a bubbler), raise 'fitter' shrimp? These are freshwater, no salt required

Great video and content.. I failed to grow them except for one or two at a time.. The rest always died so easily.
Will try the cycled larger tank..
I have heard that you can also keep a coarse sand or fine gravel substrate on the bottom. Then save the sand in a bucket where it can dry out.. When you fill the tank or bucket again, they will hatch... Easier than trying to separate out the eggs, if you don't like doing that. Cheers!!
Try to keep the water clean. I failed few times too..suspect the water quality was not good. Dont overfed them as the water will get foul easily. Keeping bare tank is easier i guess..u can just suck up the eggs and dry it..at least u can see the eggs..if its in the sand, u cant see it at all.
Line the bottom with lots of leaves instead of sand/gravel.

Hi there! New subscriber here! I have enjoyed the videos I have watched so far and will be going thru and watching the rest:) I had a question if you don't mind? I noticed you said you are using Thailand fairyshrimp and wondered if you've had any issues with your fairshrimp eggs being contaminated with moina/daphnia eggs as well? So far, every batch of eggs I have tried hatching have had daphnia/moina hatching along with them. Then, after just a few days, I am left with only the daphnia/moina alive swimming around. I know that I have fairy shrimp because it is very easy to see the difference between the nuplii by the way they swim in the beginning, then after a couple days, it is easy to tell by the way they are shaped as the fairy shrimp become big enough to see the adult form and the daphnia look just like daphnia. I messaged the sellers and they tell me that it is normal to get some dapbnia eggs within the mix. But it's disappointing when I have only daphnia left when I want fairy shrimp. Do you have any idea why my shrimp are dying while daphnia thrive? I know water quality is a major factor in raising fs, but the daphnia seem to thrive and my water quality is always cycled water. I'm so sorry for such a long comment and my questions. I completely if you cannot or don't not want to answer. I am grateful either way:)
Hi Katalina, thats for supporting my channel. Yes the Fairy Shrimps eggs are product of Thailand. Its under the product name of UHT. I dont have issue which you reported where monia eggs are coming together with the fairy shrimps eggs...i actually bought the monia eggs from UHT as well but still not able to hatch them. I just dump them in a still water. I might need to try a different way.
I had issue with my first few batches of fairy shrimps too..i suspect it was due to water quality because i feed them the same food only (baker's yeast). Try not too feed them too much yeast as it will easily foul up the water. We are the opposite. I wan Monia but successful in Fair Shrimps. You want Fairy Shrimps but successful in Monia.. 😂
You can get them in the woods if you are in the US

What is inside ur community tank? If there are larger fish, i guess it won't survive. They will become food source instead.
@@TheStreamAffair biggest fish are Celestial pearl danios and Kuhli Loaches, neither of which seem to predate on the juvenile cherry shrimp as far as I've ever seen.

Can fairy shrimp exist in a planted tank?? I know neos- and caradina thrive in them...
I dont think u can fairy shrimp in a planted tank unless ur tank have abundant of algae for them to eat. Not sure if feeding yeast in a planted tank is a good idea. And if you are keeping fish in ur planted tank, they will become food for the fish.

Yes, they are product of Thailand.

Should be still small. The body should start growing by then.

Had to find a few videos to get to yours and glad I did. When you have time, you should try to make it a project to hatch these eggs. I'm curious on the process to prevent from buying so many eggs since as you know, fairy shrimp eggs are more expensive than brine. I understand if it's a hassle though!

You raised them in fresh or salt water?
Fairy shrimp are fresh water type and Brine shrimp are saltwater type.
Can i feed the fairy shrimps Hikari First Bites instead of yeast?
I havent tried it before, may not work. Yeast and spirulina powder is proven to work. Or u can feed them green algae water.

i tried to culture but it all died on the 2 weeks and i am not sure why it happen like that. Do you change the water ? what about the temperature of the water ?
My 1st attempt failed at day 3-4. They started dying off one by one. I suspect it was because of my water condition because i had alot of detritus worms in it. So i suspect my ammonia content might be high. Thats the reason why in my 2nd attempt I had cycled the tank with my biomedia filter. I turn it back one once they were big enough not to swim into the sponge. This should help keep the amonnia level low.
I do change the water a week by 10% initially, but i stop changing the water when i moved to my display tank. Try to feed what they can eat only.
My temp should be around 29-30 celcius.
@@TheStreamAffair Probably my water condition content with high ammonia, i didnt think of checking water condition. i tried few attempt and keep failing, gave up trying and now saw your posting it motivate me to try it once again. i love your stream set up and all the video posting done by you. Did you use filtered water for your 2nd attempt?
I added water filtered from the tap water using the 4 stage filtered which I build and shown in my previous water change routine video. You need to use dechlorinated water.

How long is the light on?
24/7?
Its only on during the night..during the day, i got natural sunlight shining in, so I don't need to turn it on. Algae will grow as well so its also food source for the shrimps. U can see their belly turning green.

I never tried before. Maybe if u blend it till liquid form, it might work. But using yeast is the easiest option. Or just keep them under sunlight. Algae will grow by itself.

Wanted to do this but the laziness in me is too strong. And this can be easily fake by using back the commercial sold eggs instead of the fresh eggs that was laid. So might as well not..haha

I had not tried to hatch moina egg before. So i cannot comment if they can be grow in same tank or not.
