  • I thought I'd share my AQA Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Presentation, which received an A star 2 years ago! The title was "How relevant are anti-angiogenic therapeutics in the treatment of uveal melanoma?" In the talk I give a flavour of the different areas of research I undertook, the process of completing the project itself, and a short Q and A at the end. I hope this is useful for anyone looking to do an EP themselves, particularly with a medical/scientific focus!

    Thank you for sharing this! This was a really interesting talk, very well paced and you made it easily understandable due to your clear explanation of terminology and the additional use of visual aids. I’m looking to do my EPQ presentation and noted that you chose not to include your methodology in your talk, I was wondering why you decided not to include this in your presentation? If you were to do the EPQ presentation again, do you think you would include this or what else would you do differently? Any feedback would very much be appreciated.

    • @RohanYesudian
      @RohanYesudian  3 роки тому +2

      Hi L P thanks for the feedback. What exactly do you mean by 'methodology'? My project didn't involve original research it was basically just a literature review. I didn't include much in the way of methodology of the papers I read because firstly I probably didn't know how to read papers very well at that point in my career! Also I wanted to avoid unnecessary details particularly most of my audience were not in the field of science.
      However towards the end of my talk I did talk a bit about my approach to the project, and at the start I did include details about title progression which is important in the EPQ. Over the summer I'm thinking about doing a few videos about research skills for EPQ as well as how to approach it, so maybe that would be helpful.

    • @lp6677
      @lp6677 3 роки тому

      Hi Rohan, that sounds a really good idea. It would definitely help EPQ students. In terms of methodology i was wondering the process by which you sourced and applied the literature to the scientific debate. Did you implement any quantitative studies and if so why did you decide not to include this in your presentation?

      Hi Jahfar thanks for the message. It’ll be quite hard for me to give any specific advice without me knowing what your project is about. I think picking a good title is very important, because that will guide the project. It should ideally be a question which you can use research to answer in a conclusion. See the video again for how I developed my title. Avoid really general titles because that doesn’t give much scope for discussion. For intro, talk about what you have read before or any ideas you had on the topic. Basically then go on to say why you found it interesting that you wanted to devote hours and hours into researching it!
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions

    • @jahfarkazmi711
      @jahfarkazmi711 3 роки тому +2

      @@RohanYesudian my project title is 'was 911 an inside job'. could you please give me a rough sort of structure. the main bulk of it is going to be research. also in my case, i feel my argument for my project is kind of one-sided, do you think it would be good to discuss conspiracy theories that can be disproved or just stick to the facts of why it was an inside job.

    • @RohanYesudian
      @RohanYesudian  3 роки тому +5

      @@jahfarkazmi711 unfortunately I'm not an expert in this field, it would definitely be best to ask your project supervisor or a school teacher for guidance. It doesn't matter if your project is one sided but make sure you acknowledge the other side and highlight the weaknesses in their arguments. I feel your title is still a bit broad, is there anyway possible you could make it more specific? For example the phrase 'inside job' is a bit vague. Also when you start your research that may give you a better idea of where your project (and title) will be heading so its definitely best to do a bit of searching to check what the scope of the topic is.
      Sorry I couldn't be of much help but I hope my suggestions are valid

    this was so helpful thank you so much, did you write a script for when you were doing your presentation or did you just improvise? my school are making us write scripts but i am just confused how to structure it :/

    • @RohanYesudian
      @RohanYesudian  3 роки тому +3

      I didn't have a script i made some bullet points for each slide (which you can see me holding in the video), but I rarely looked at them in the talk. It's odd that they are making you write a script it can really disrupt the flow of a presentation if you are reading off a sheet of paper / a screen. Have you asked them if you can use bulletpoints or go without notes instead? I feel that's a much more natural approach

    • @graceback2322
      @graceback2322 3 роки тому +1

      @@RohanYesudian Yeah I thought that it would be better if I could do bullet points instead but they have given us specific word counts for the script (e.g 1200-1500 words in total for the script) which even then the presentation is supposed to be 5-10 mins long so I don't understand how that's possible. Thank you anyway I think I might just do bullet points it will benefit me at least.

      I had the same issue, I found that once my argument became clear I was able to formulate a title and see that my EPQ was really a question of definition. It will probably take a few attempts to get write, I went throught at least 3 attempts before I found my title and each time I was honing in on my argument and trying to make it clear
      Make sure the title is clear, specific so you can answer it, but not too specific that there is no research on it and makes sense to someone who may be coming in with no knowledge of the topic. With an EPQ I have been told that they like a question where there maybe a bit of a debate to unpick and it makes the reader want to get an answer.
      At least that worked for me, but I haven't submitted it yet, I've got my presentation this week, so we will have to see.
