I LOVE the original Saint Anger. I think it is one of the most criminally underrated albums of all time. All of these re-recordings on youtube, while I respect the effort, I think people missed the whole point. This album was supposed to be raw, ugly, not pretty, and Metallica did that masterfully. It somehow mixes a punk rock vibe with progressive metal and St. Anger is always my go to album with I am just fed up with people and the world. I want the disgusting snare, I want the unapologetic profanity, I want the ugly riffs mixed with James screaming in weird desperate tones I want the odd just jamming out for 2 to 3 minutes for no reason on crazy bullspit personally I think this album is a masterpiece for what it is. The problem with having expectations for Metallica is that any true fan knows that Metallica always tried to push out of them. This album is gross. It's disgusting. It's vile. And I think that is exactly what Metallica wanted. I love it.
If they released this back in the early 80's as a demo or something, it would have been well received but not something anyone wanted to hear from Metallica by 2003. I understand that this album was supposed to be a form of therapy for the band members due to all the shit they were going through at the time, but their fans deserved better than this, particularly since it had been 5 years since they released an official studio album. Btw I can definitely hear nu metal influences all over this album.
So are the whiny crybabies still hating on this album. Let ‘em. They’re missing out on one of the smartest, most ferocious slabs of heavy rock ever recorded. It’s a fascinating mashup of conflicting ideas-hardcore punk meets prog, thrash metal meets art house noise rock-plus all of these crazy edits that completely short into different styles of music. Yes, it’s ugly. Yea, it’s rough. That’s intentional. This album is the sound of a man clawing out of his grave. You do know Metallica disintegrated in 2001, right? ProTip: Go listen to White Light/White Heat, Trout Mask Replica, Master of Reality, Zen Arcade, In Utero, and maybe some avant-garde classical like Stockhausen or Varese.
This was the album where all the members decided to become sober. They quit all the booze and drugs, this was written while they were going through rehab.
This album definitely does take some influence from nu metal, just like how Load takes influence from alternative rock. They follow the trends to try to stay current.
I think my major problem with this album after many years is the rapping style from James and the length of the damn songs. And yes, that snare is annoying. Or was it a beer keg?

Hot take: I like St. Anger unironically.
Not a huge fan of the snare, but the riffs are FUCKING AMAZING here.
Controversial but i like it.
It’s a midlife crisis of an album with batshit crazy vocal choices. But yeah the riffs are great I guess 😅

I love to hate this album. This came out I was in high school and I enjoy until now :):
The energy in this album is PUNKISH. Reminds me of DEAD KENNEDY's in it's will of expression.

wish they'd remaster this album, the live one-take is 100x higher quality :(
DRUMS by automatic feel and let the DRUMMER be themselves is best I think
Esta ALBUM is UNDERRATED, mas UNDERRATED.
I want to die I didn't believe that this was that bad
I stand wrong
Track List?
I like st anger althought the batery is a little too loud. But it's ok for me.
sounds like an amatuer band from high school..how did they fall so far from those 1st four albums?
No Cliff and the guy that mixed those legendary masterpieces
This was the album where all the members decided to become sober. They quit all the booze and drugs, this was written while they were going through rehab.
You must not like Nü-Metal then....
@@RandyDubin it's not nu metal. Its crap. Fear factory static x is nu metal

If they fixed the drums and the bad lyrics and the uninspired guitar work and the terrible mixing this would be great

If you're revisiting this album, I apologize for the current decline of your mental state that has lead you here 😆
This is my go to album after I go through a bitter argument with my crazy mother.
No.
slipknot
Love Metallica but not a big fan of this album. listened 3 times to give a chance but just not for me.
so stale
