This is an excellent video. I've jacked up the tension on a 201 and I've been banging my head against the wall to get it back in shape. Thanks.

Glad I found this video since this is the exact section of Granny 1951(?) machine that seems to have a problem. When I thread thru the tension disks, the thread is in there so tightly, I have to tug firmly to pull it thru. I was brave to take all these pieces off! The thing hasn't been oiled in ~15 years...but it also hasn't been used. The shaft that all the pieces came off of doesn't have as wide an opening as yours (maybe that's the problem!!??) When I went to slide the +/- dial back on, I could barely get it to go on. I gently wedged a screwdriver in there to give me enough wiggle room to get it back on. I haven't tried to sew yet for fear of snapping the thread or needle. Any advice?

    Hi
Thanks for the beautifully done video. I have a singer ( family heirloom ) similar to this one. I have realized that when I lift the presser foot even then the tension is not released. The tensioner keeps on applying tension on the thread even with the presser foot lift.
Any idea, suggestion how to fix it..
    Thanks

Hello, I recently inherited a 1950 singer sewing machine like the one in the video. It is pretty rough shape but still works. can you give me any suggestions on how to clean it without destroying anything? Thank you

I'm just wondering about this little pin, which is sitting in the middle of the main 'screw' onto which all other parts go.. is that pin supposed to go all the way back? the one on my machine can be moved forward quite a way, but not all the way back. thanks in advance!

Its a release pin, yes. When you lift your foot the linkage behind the tension opens the discs if everything is working properly.

Does it matter if the presser feet are up or down?
    Thx

    hi,
Is this the same as the model 15-90? I have the model 15-90 and I can't make the my thread stitch look right at the back. I keep adjusting the tension but still I can't make it look right at the back. The front look s good though.

Hi I have a Singer class 15 (made in Germany, serial number beginning with C) and I am not able to take the tension discs off and get to the thread take up spring, due to a large metal piece that is in the way. Do you know how this could be achieved? My thread take up spring wire broke off :(

I just got this machine and the thread keeps missing stitches. I change the needle and rethreaded it a few times can you give any advice to correct this.

Something is wrong with the threading or the hook point... see a technician, it's very hard to explain, sorry!

This is all well an good but does not address how to put in or replace the take up spring . Take up spring is integral to this whole process , why not address it ?

(1:27) - Personally, I would have cleaned up a bit, the back of that tension shaft / stud with a toothbrush dipped in white spirit, prior to oiling it.

I would have done a lot more. This is not a "repair" video. The user manual shows all this. It even shows it better.

Why now show a complete disassembly and what the other screw do and how to manage those? This video didn't show that much. Kinda useless.
