F150 (92-96) 5.0/5.8 Coolant Temp Sensor Removal

- This is the best video you'll find on how to remove the coolant temp sensor for the cluster on an OBS F150 with a 5.0/5.8 (I have the 5.8).
17mm socket and an extension oughtta do ya.
This sensor goes about 31 bucks at autozone.
Good job. You are the only one that I could get any good info. and good video for my temp. gauge on my 1990 Ford Bronco.
That's the sender....not the sensor. The sensor is further back on the intake on the driver side.
What are the two sensors call on driver side intake manifold mine plugs broke and I don't know what there called I seen your message and seems like you may know. Thank you for some info
@@jaytank31 the one on driver side in behind the temp sender sensor toward the firewall is the air charge sensor
Single wire sensor is for the temp gauge..multiwire sensor is for the ecm
Replaced mine on my 1983-302 F150....it's in the same spot
GCF Media - I have a 1994 Ford F150, 5.8L, 4x4 and when it heats up it looses power and jerks into gear. rough. I ran a ODB1 code sensor on the truck and it came back with a 116 code (engine coolant temp higher or lower than expected). I have been told by several that the Coolant Temp Sensor may be the problem. I've also been told the PSOM (programmable speedometer/odometer module) might be the problem. Thoughts? Again, it idles and runs strong until it warms up. I have gone to town, about 20 minutes away, and on the way back it starts loosing power, doesn't want to go into 3/4 gears, and jerks into gears. Any thoughts? I've replaced the VSS and 02 Sensor.
Loosing power could be cats, could be you needing to do a tune up and clean your iacv, throttle body and maybe change your maf sensor out. You might need a new dist rotor and cap and coil, coolest temp is def the sensors, ypu may need to flush the whole coolant system and drain the block. the jerking into gear could be the diff speed sensor or a piece in the trans that costs over 100 bucks. Could be a shift kit that's been installed. Could need a carrier bearing and ujoints. You may just need to change the fluid and filter.
When I first got my 94 it would bog down terribly at 35-45mph and run rough till I did a complete tune up and it went away.
The not wanting to go from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 is your valve body. Its your 2 to 3 shift valve and 3 to 4. Check your manual shift left to see if its shifting all the way.
Check your TPS, mine used to shift hard into every single gear and recalibrated the PSOM, replaced VSS, MAF, MAP, even the ECU. When you put it in drive, hammer the gas pedal down to the floor and feel for any hesitation or just not accelerating.
@@Misteryman321 yeah I'm gonna agree with this. Hesitation on throttle is usually TPS
I'm sure you've fixed the issue by now. But I am going to leave this here for anyone else having delayed shifting or hard shifting or OD light flashing. I was getting a p0500 which is vss code. I changed the sensor and no change so I changed the connector still no change. It wound up being my programmable speed odometer module. I'm glad I figured that out because I was about to start tearing into the tranny. I'm glad it doesn't need it.
Wish I knew more about auto electric for 5.0 Lincoln Town Car. damn Squirrel nests. changing sensors ain't helping.
Hey man I just got a 1989 F250. The coolant sensor is connected to an after market gage, and I like to plug it back to the original gage. Any chance you can tell me how to find the original connector?
My Brothers sensor is located in the thermostat housing so this was not helpful his is a 94 F-250-xl 5.8 w
My issue is my temp gauge never makes it to center it stays closer to cold well last night while driving home my battery gauge dropped my lights went dim and my temp gauge dropped all the way to the c mark. Would that be my temp sensor or alternator 🤣. What would cause both gauges to drop like that?
Temp should be between c and the center
@@GCF-Media that's usually where it stays. Would my battery gauge dropping have anything to do with my temp gauge dropping? It happened at the same time. After about 40 minutes of driving my battery gauge drops like the alt isn't charging the battery. I'm going to have them both tested but what would that have to do with my temp gauge?
@@jessigames8593 all your gauges would drop at the same time maybe due to a power draw like your heater
That is NOT the coolant temp sensor.
Great vid. Do you know where 1978 ford f100 temperature sensor connector is located going into the firewall?
looks like you are removing the one on the driver side of the manifold.
Replaced both. On a 94 theyre both on the drivers side. One is just by the oil filter.
@@GCF-Media Lol...you have them all mixed up. The oil pressure sensor is by the oil filter on the block.
Its a temp sender name of vidio wrong
Sender is on the block.
@@GCF-Media You're wrong. That's the sender.....with the threaded top. The sensor has a proper electrical connector. It's down the driver side on the intake manifold....not on the block. The oil pressure sensor is below on the block...just by the oil filter.
What was your truck doing that you decided to change that
Not reporting temp.
@@GCF-Media ok thank you for getting back to me, I have a 87 f150 5.0 and I'm having issues with. it's hesitating and stumbling on acceleration only. Some guys on youtube said to check that also
@@nickpanhead7209 nah that wouldn't cause a hesitation and stumbling on accel.
Check your TPS. Clean your throttle body out, check your injector pressure and make sure your timing is right. Iacv is another one to check. You may end up replacing your tps and iacv.
Though it could be as simple as you need to do a full tune up.
@@GCF-Media thank you I'll look into them, only have the truck a little over 2 months and now having issue. I replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, checked timing, map sensor, fuel filter, disconnected 02 sensor, there's no catalytic converter on truck. There was a new IAC valve on when I bought it. I didn't replace the tps or clean out throttle body. I guess I'll give that a try. The truck idle's good, revs up good in park. Only when under a load it stumbling, feels like I'm going down a bumpy road. And sometimes it intermitting it happens more often then not.
@@nickpanhead7209 put a glass pack where one of those cats was see if that changes anything. But also check to see if your injectors are firing right. Run some injector cleaner through your tank. Maybe some seafood through your intake manifold through the brake booster line.
Is it or isn’t it 5/8s hehe
i hate these amateurs giving advice
I work at a dealership. I do this all the time. I'm working to become ASE certified. "aMeTuEr"
@@GCF-Media give him 💩 kid. 😂
f150 95 4.9 I can’t find
On a 4.9 should be next to the thermostat housing
You ever find where it is on your 1990 4.9
I have a 96 4.9 mine is on the passenger side near the transmisson fill tube single wire. It's tucked up in there so best thing to do is get under the truck follow your manifolds back to the firewall and look up.
