    These are such a great car. We had a CL9 Euro 2.4 luxury pack, I paid $3500NZ for it and sold it 3 years later for $4500. Only thing it needed was to rebuild the power steering pump (it’s so good to be able to buy each individual seal inside the pump, how many other cars can you do that on) and had the alternator refurbed.
    I’ve always considered these the thinking persons alternative to the E46/E90 (generally considered the benchmark for the class). I like a BMW too, but parts are pricey here.
    We also own 2 Honda Jazzes, an ‘08 and a ‘14, and have owned a DC2R, EK4 and a CD6 Accord as well- suffice to say we’re a Honda family. None have ever left me stranded.

      A buddy of mine had this car as a Type S. Even though the car has been in a couple accidents, the doors felt lovely, the seats were really comfortable and the 2.4 had a great soundtrack with a injen intake and a decat. Major thing with these cars is rust, mainly around the rear arches. Even if you get it fixed it's prone to rusting again and the bodywork repair gets expensive. His car was rust free though and he covered i think over 50 thousand kms in it, every summer taking it to croatia, daily to work summertime/wintertime. He only had to sell it a couple months ago because he was having a baby and got a cr-v. His dad also has one with the diesel lump, a very clean exec model. Such tidy cars. I regret not ever asking to drive it.

    I doff my cap to this ode, that’s for sure.
    Had the “Tourer" version of this with the 2.4 Vtec engine... an absolutely great car. Used it as an allround everything, including pseudo-van load lugger. Fair bit of poke, very comfy, ultra reliable and you could fit a Victorian wardrobe in the back of it. Bought it for a bit over 2 grand about 10 years ago, 1 owner full Honda history. I drove it from London to Puglia, in the heel of Italy, in 2 days, stopping overnight in Innsbruck, and it returned low to mid 30s mpg packed to the rafters and with two bikes on the towbar, and I didn't even give a moment's thought to making the trip from the point of view of comfort or reliability. Only sold it because RHD wasn't practical in Italy and replaced it with a Mk8 Tourer, diesel engine, which, though slightly more refined and frugal, is nowhere near as practical with wheel arches that intrude into the boot and a rounder rear that reduces load practicality. Still a great car, but I miss that old bird and her Vtec charms... Honda got it right with this range... criminally overlooked in UK.
    Oh, and I kid you not, but I once transported a canoe for my sister INSIDE the car, from front dash to rear window, as I didn't want to buy a roof rack just for a one off trip down the M6... a tardis of a vehicle, that could hitch up her skirt when you put your foot down.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Рік тому +1

      Wow! I do like the tourer version, sounds like an absolute beast of practicality - a canoe inside the car is incredible. 2 grand for one ten years ago is very good going, they wouldn't have been all that old by that point. Cheers Roger 👍

    • @rogerwredford
      @rogerwredford Рік тому

      Yes, it was a bargain. It had a problem with the boot opener (the only problem it ever had), so had some Heath Robinson cable you had to hook your finger into by the rear number plate to bypass it. They were overlooked cars anyway in the UK, and i think this was putting off potential buyers. I’ve never understood the British fixation with European cars that have overhyped reliability long term. Japanese all the way beyond a certain number of years. The canoe was an eccentric moment… i could see the seller thinking i was crackers, but was even more surprised when i closed the boot and the canoe was actually inside. Keep up the good work@@JJonCars

    • @rogerwredford
      @rogerwredford Рік тому

      It was a 53 plate at the time i bought it in 2013, but was still a great price... caught the seller on the right day. Nightmare to keep clean in black, however. Comparing the latest 2 gens back to back, i’d say the mk7 was the better car, if a bit boring to look at. They sacrificed practicality over styling in the later model. Certainly was something of a sleeper with the 2.4 vtec though.@@JJonCars

    I have a 2004 Estate 2.2 diesel hand me down from my father. Other than the lack of 6th gear pre face lift and the typical Honda road noise above 100kph - I'd never replace it. I am in love with the estate design(you either hate it or love it nobody's ever in the middle :D ) It's not the most luxurious car but it had pretty much all the bells and whistles for the time and the buttons and controls are just out of this world. Every button is perfectly tactile, clicky or whatever you wanna call it even after 20 years. The stalks are also pure perfection. The leather seats are amazing. And the gear leaver... Oh that gear leaver. After you've driven one of these driving anything else feels like grabbing a chocolate bar that you forgot under direct sun for a few minutes. There are also no creaks and rattles in the interior. Literally none!
    Not to mention the boot of the estate, which you can literally get lost in. I've stuffed the radiators from my apartment on one occasion and I've slept in it many times camping. No tent - no problem. You've got a double bed on wheels.
    I've been treating the car like crap for 4 years, I'm ashamed to admit, because I can't afford to care for it the way I'd like financially at the moment, but it's been such a Honda about it. Runs like a champ and does 50 mpg with the crap diesel we get here in Bulgaria.
    If the phrase 'They don't make them like they used to.' was a car it would be a 7th gen accord.

    I bought 2.2 i-CTdi variant in summer last year(pre-facelift). I had to fill it up with oil, it still needs some care in suspension (car is rolling to the left, when on throtle), something is banging, when driving over harsh bump... but the engine... that engine is a bless (until major failure), it has massive torque, decent horse power and durability of the champions.
    Interion is cozy (Mine is Sport, so it has some trim...), seats are leather with fabric in the middle (and I love it, over full leather seats in executive).
    One gripe... there is no computer on the dash... what so ever... only a thermometer of outside temperature (in a car from 2004... my seat toledo 2001 had like 7function display...)
    Otherwise, that ride is a "blast". I love it. Even my mother, and she don't like to drive any car at all, called Honda an enjoable car and wanted more!
    I don't blame her... double-wishbone in front, multilink in the rear... powerful engine... much better than mothers Škoda Fabia 1.6 16v 63 kW my mother is used to...

    Exactly, the steering, handling is not like some sport, it’s great but it’s just normal reaction! And the changing gears ⚙️ it’s like on video games 🎮 Mine only from first to second gear, or second to first need to be gentle.. Other gears just fit perfectly, making that sound of perfection, tik tik, going in the gear ⚙️ so easy and precise! Mine is 2004, and every time im surprised over and over again how they make car back then, those leather seats, materials on side door, panels… So good quality! Incredible!!! 20 years exactly on the road, on country with strong summer nearly 10 months and still looking amazing! I just love my honda!!! I just wish that i could buy one 24 type S!!! There was one for sale looking amazing, for very reasonable price!!! I just couldn’t afford in that moment! If i ever put my hands 🙌 on that one, i think i will never changed the car again!!!

The K20/24 engines are some the very best by Honda and can easily go hundreds of thousands of miles with good maintenance. If I'd had the space I would have taken it from him as I was sorry to see it go. Sadly it wasn't an option for me though.

    Maybe I'm a little bit confused, wasn't the Executive version equipped with the K24 engine of 190 hp instead of the 2.0 150 hp K20 of the regular version?
    I own the 2.2 Diesel version, it drags a little bit when stopping in roundabouts and the like, but after the 2000-2500rpm the turbo really gives a boost and it is really quiet and fast on motorways: you barely hear the engine, the car doesn't vibrate at all, and then you realise you're over 150km/h without really noticing it. Great boot, confortable, spacious, quiet, stable, reliable and good diesel consumption, a perfect car for long trips.
    Also, I'm keeping the "turtleneck test", great expression for cars like these (and the type of cars I enjoy and look for).

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  4 місяці тому

      I think that perhaps in some countries the executive was always the 2.4, but not here in the UK. Honda did a good job with their first diesel 👍

    This is from the absolute golden era of Japanese cars the build quality was exceptional especially Honda which were built slightly better than its competition from Japan the late 1990s to the early 2000 they are reliable a testiment to that there are still a lot of them still on the road in Australia l own a late 1990s Toyota myself and it is still in good condition and the 22R engine is in excellent condition doesn't use oil starts on the button and it is carburated and has only done 435000 kilometres Honda were of a better quantity than the Toyota Camery but but the Honda was a little more expensive this is a nice example this Honda Accord they are still around but the Camerys are more popular and there are plenty of them around and are starting to go up in price because they are so good and reliable and Honda's are reliable my sister in law has the first generation Honda Civic and still drives ut around and she is absolutely loves it had a bit of a problem about a year ago all the coil packs went at once which they will do her husband hot some new coils and it was good as new thus Honda Accord will last another 20 years easily without any problems after all my list of reliable cars from Japan are Honda Lexus Mazda Suzuki and Toyota and one from Lydia the Mahindra starting to see those on the roads we also have a 2017 Suzuki Baleno a good little car my wife loves l have owned many vehicles in my 50 years of driving many commercial vehicles vans and Ute's and before the Suzuki we bought a Ford Fiests and honestly it was the biggest pile if crap we bought brand new back then l didn't realise European built cars were such piles of crap l don't like them fortunately Japan and lndia build some excellent cars that are reliable will last a very long time and are built to last and last in Australia there are more Toyota's on the road and in Australia you are never to far from a Toyota

    That's a cracking motor and I'm sure your papa is also pleased to be enjoying the vehicle - that is, when he can prise the keys from your hands! I would be tempted by an Accord in that similar condition and mileage, but the cost of insurance plus the road tax (£365!) and the desirability of the catalytic converters to non-desirables would ultimately put me off.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Рік тому +1

      Lol! 😂 Yes, though I don't think he minds being driven around in it 😄
      Yeah it's a shame with the tax, for me (and dad), that amount of tax is just par for the course with all the cars we've had before so it doesn't hurt so much. But to come from a mid 2010's £20 bracket would be painful.
      I guess they are at risk for catalytic converter theft, but I've only ever heard stuff about the Jazz being a big target.
