i remember when this song came out it struck a chord because it described such a specific feeling/memory: unbearably hot summer night, feeling restless, escaping with someone and driving around, tons of energy. i've totally had nights like that, but i'd never think to write a song about it
First time!e i watching this vid lol I pictured more of what you were talking about. Innocence lost in energy - maybe that's what they're trying to convey lol
I think the message here is he is tripping his balls off, having a spiritual experience, and his friend joins him and they take a walk around town together through alleys, and streets, and parks
Arguably one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. It's both discordant and unfathomably beautiful. It could even send someone in tears and how much joyous innocence this song contains.
Look, i dig this song too. But Jesus Christ, these comments make me want to puncture my ear drums. It's a groovy track with some nice teenage/early 20's nostalgia vibes. Cut it out with the pretentious bullshit. "Unfathomably beautiful". Fuck off.
Picked up Skate 3 like 5 years ago... Summertime Clothes was just a simple soundtrack listing, now it's turned into one of my all time favourites. Reminds me of how much I've changed throughout the years, and there's nothing to regret in the past. Life is too short for regrets, grudges, bad relationships, and missed opportunities. Thank you, Animal Collective.
Such wonderful memories this song brings. Summer of 2009 and I just graduated high school, getting ready to leave for college. Memories flood back. Such fun times!
I need to find me someone who appreciates why I get teary-eyed when I listen and watch this video. Side note, sounds a thousand percent better when listening on good headphones. Obsessed

I think it's really refreshing to watch this, rather than try to follow a typical storyboard-type music video. You have the eargasm of the music, and the eyegasm of the visual candy, and it's like you can just relax and enjoy both with no pressure.
I'll never forget it. It was the summer of my 6th grade year and I was home alone, I popped Skate 3 into my Xbox and I just free roamed. I remember hating how my character looked so I went into customization and changed my characters clothes and this song was playing. It sounded weird to me at first considering my volume was really low so I turned my TV all the way up and I just listened. The vibes that I got from this song was beyond amazing. I put my controller down and just stared at my TV, I zoned completely out. This song is so eclectic and ambient that it just pulls you in. Now I listen to this song years later reminiscing about that moment. Still the same vibes given from this song. Amazing.
i personally came here from skate 3 but then i became a fanatic about animal collective and now i have all their albums its pretty awesome, i love animal collective
In the mid 2000’s, I’d guess around 2004, I started watching a show on NYC public access tv called New York Noise. Every Friday night they would play an hour of local indie bands music videos and it was my main way of discovering new music at the time. It was there I first heard “Who could win a Rabbit?” and “Grass”… and I hated them. So manic and jarring and just seemingly unpleasant to listen to. A few years later Merriweather Post Pavilion came out and I couldn’t believe that little weird New York Noise band put out an album with such acclaim. I listened and was blown away, one of the most amazing and special listening experiences I ever had with an album. I went back and listened to their old catalog and discovered so much hidden beauty in these manic bizarre songs that I was initially found so jarring. Saw them live when they were touring for MPP and it’s still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Thank you for all the great music Animal Collective. I can’t say I liked it all, but what I did I loved and whether I enjoyed it or not it was always a journey. I look forward to catching up on the releases that I’ve missed out on .
This song is about being stuck in a tiny bedsit in Brooklyn during a scalding new york summer. It also coincides with a pure love song. AC's lyrics are very tangible, their descriptions make you feel like you're actually there, connected with the situations they portray with an intimate sense like touch, or smell.
I just wanna say thank god for this song being on skate 3. This was truly my intro to music. I would click the replay button on skate 3 and always play this song. I was about 9 years old. One day I decided to look this band up and was blow away. I looked and fell in love with every song they made. I even asked for CDs for Christmas back in 2015. I got sung tungs and feels. Also merry weather post pavilion for Christmas that year. I would play them on my old sisters ps2 while playing Xbox 360 (I had an old crt with an aux port) this was TRULY my introduction to music. I grew up rough and never believed I could ever make music. I just wanna thank you guys so much I never thought you guys would be with me through all my life. I never knew you guys had such a connection with Ariel pink which I found completely irrelevant to you guys. I love this band and to this day through all the music I’ve seen this will always resonate with me. I will not live much longer but thank you guys to the introduction to my love for music. Guys I wish I was better ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Haha, we played this song for our school and only 10 or 11 people in the crowd got up to clap. Everyone else sat and stared at us. It made me feel wonderful.

Our clothes might get soaked, but the buildings sleep And there's no one pushing for a place Let's meander at an easy pace And I want to walk around with you And I want to walk around with you I want to walk around with you Just you, just you, just you.

Me listening to this song again almost 15 years after it's release and almost 14 since I listened to it last during my final week in college. Yeah, it still funks.
I listened to this all the time as a kid. Then a few years ago I took an acid trip in the summer with a friend of mine and we saw downtown and its lights at night. Now this song reminds me of that moment 🙂
What the??? These guys are the most original band I've heard in years.... I thought they were weird at first, but after giving them a chance, they won me over.
Reminds me of my really old friend from Bangladesh. This was his favorite. He introduced me to Merriweather, but we started taking midnight walks one summer around college campus because of this song. "Hey, you wanna go walk around in our summertime clothes?" Theres nothing as nostalgic as warm, humid summer nights in t-shirts and shorts.
Walked into "Dr.Disks" in Windsor. ON and they were playing all of MPP. I picked the album up that exact day and this song (as well as the rest of the album) became the anthem for my summer. I sometimes blast this in the car on a hot, hot day and the memories always come flooding to the point of tears.
In my first year of high school for my art class I was taking I did a clay statue as a tribute to the gals with the balloons in the video. I think I got a B grade on that one. I was a kid--didn't really know what I was doing anyway!
This is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite songs. Even though listening to it brings back some memories that I don't always want to remember… So much in my mind that it spills outside 👽👍🏿
I don't know how they do it, but thanks Animal Collective for making this great song. It's like every time I hear this song, especially at the part when they say:When The Sun goes down we'll go out again I feel like going skate with my friends and having a good time. Also erasing all the bad stuff in my life and telling me to enjoy life to the fullest because YOLO:You Only Live Once. Now I know I might get a lot of hate comments but I don't care. So I thank Animal Collective again for making this great song and everyone, LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!!! :)
Everybody do yourself a favor and put this track on a USB and play it on your TV's blu-ray surround sound (if you have one). The bass is awesome! Perfect summer song to get you through the heatwave :)
Interpretation of video: in the middle, there’s an ice sculpture of a boy and girl together, literally. It looks nice and shiny and everything like that, but if you look closely, it’s beginning to melt a little as the dancers around it keep on moving. The dancers represent those indescribable feelings a boy and girl feel for each other, yet at the same time, the ice sculpture continues to melt somehow. The song details a summertime romance, which is nice in the moment, but ultimately cannot last forever or won’t work out in the end. As the dancers keep moving, the feelings grow to be stronger, but the romance starts to slowly, in a literal sense, melt away the more summer comes to an end. Despite this, the couple decide to just keep on enjoying the moment the best they can until summer fades away……..
I can understand not really getting their music, but this song in particular is fairly normal, even when I first listened to them this song stood out as being one of the most "normal".
This song is freaking amazingly good. I really have to check out Merriweather Past Pavilion, I thought it was going to be worse than Feels and Strawberry Jam, but My Girls and Summertime Clothes seem to prove me wrong, luckily :)
It's so hard to concentrate in school when I have this stuck in my head. I just want to contort my body into strange shapes, scream, run, cry, dance, sing and be free.

I know I’m 4 years late to this comment but some of these are wrong like “as we end up at an easy pace” is actually “let’s meander at an easy pace”, and “restlessness calls us…” is “restlessness calls, says…”, that’s all tho bless you hope your last 4 years have been prosperous
nakedfordinner It's not exactly hate; under the right "circumstances", the Dead could pull off a reasonable performance. But they were never in tune, they had frustrating performance habits ("Space", anyone? No, thank you, please) and were as much a huge corporation as they were a band. Granted, AC have their own frustrating habits. And they sampled the Grateful Dead on "What Would I Want? Sky." The comparison is warranted.
Jordan Barbee If you'd said "Person Pitch" by Panda Bear, I think you'd be right on the money. But AC is so diverse that it's hard for me to pin down many comparisons. That's probably why I like them so much.
A melhor musica da banda. Eu ouvi a musica em um comercial da Mtv e não parei mais. Depois ainda achei em um jogo chamado Skate 3 e jogava o jogo só para ouvir a musica

I listened to this all the time as a kid. Then a few years ago I took an acid trip in the summer with a friend of mine and we saw downtown and its lights at night. Now this song reminds me of that moment 🙂
This song sounds like if one of those edible water bubble things was dyed blue and you threw it against a wall
ive had this song stuck in my head for 70 years
What the??? These guys are the most original band I've heard in years.... I thought they were weird at first, but after giving them a chance, they won me over.
I don't expect anyone to read this but y'all ever wonder how they explained to these ladies what they'd be doing on set? Shit always cracks me up
Only listened to this and strawberry jam but this is for sure one of my all time favourite albums so special
@CCSconnor nah feels is on the same level
Reminds me of my really old friend from Bangladesh. This was his favorite. He introduced me to Merriweather, but we started taking midnight walks one summer around college campus because of this song. "Hey, you wanna go walk around in our summertime clothes?"
Theres nothing as nostalgic as warm, humid summer nights in t-shirts and shorts.
One of the Best songs on the Skate 3 soundtrack hands down
SO FREAKY BEAUTIFUL. don't think i could be more in love with animal collective!!!
The coriagraphy is beautiful
In my first year of high school for my art class I was taking I did a clay statue as a tribute to the gals with the balloons in the video. I think I got a B grade on that one. I was a kid--didn't really know what I was doing anyway!
This is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite songs. Even though listening to it brings back some memories that I don't always want to remember… So much in my mind that it spills outside 👽👍🏿
Me trying to make my bed at 2:05
Lmao
"And there's no one pushing for a place, let's meander at an easy pace."
Lovely.
+Roddrick Ford
I have never worked out what they sang there.
Of course it's "When The Sun goes down we'll go out again"
Thankyou !
+DJKevvy Kev Really? Cool.
Everybody do yourself a favor and put this track on a USB and play it on your TV's blu-ray surround sound (if you have one). The bass is awesome! Perfect summer song to get you through the heatwave :)
2:56 is the best part of this song. beautiful, i just wish it last longer.
When this song first got airplay, I liked it so much I bought the CD. I still like it. ;-)
i haven't seen many music vids but this is probably my favorite one regardless
Great song too!
Genius. 9yrs laters, I´m still here and will for more decades!
This song is freaking amazingly good. I really have to check out Merriweather Past Pavilion, I thought it was going to be worse than Feels and Strawberry Jam, but My Girls and Summertime Clothes seem to prove me wrong, luckily :)
SOAK MY HEAD IN THE SINK FOR A WHILE
It's so hard to concentrate in school when I have this stuck in my head. I just want to contort my body into strange shapes, scream, run, cry, dance, sing and be free.
listening to this during the heatwave in australia hits different 😍😍😍😍😍😍
best band in the universe that i personally know of
This and Fireworks are untouchable.
2010-2023 and still the best

最後の曲永遠に流せるぐらい最高です!🔥
So many great Halloween costume ideas
Sweet summer night and I'm stripped to my sheets
Forehead is leaking, my AC squeaks and
A voice from the clock says, "You're not gonna get tired"
My bed is a pool and the walls are on fire
Soak my head in the sink for a while
Chills on my neck and it makes me smile but
My bones have to move and my skin's gotta breathe
You pick up the phone and I'm so relieved
You slide down your stairs to the heated street
And the sun has left us with slippery feet
And I want to walk around with you
And I want to walk around with you
And be here with you, we're goin'
It doesn't really matter, I'll go where you feel
Hunt for the breeze, get a midnight meal
I point in the windows, you point out the parks
Rip off your sleeves and I'll ditch my socks
We'll dance to the songs from the cars as they pass
Weave through the cardboard, smell that trash
Walking around in our summertime clothes,
Nowhere to go while our bodies glow
And we'll greet the dawn in its morning blues
With purple yawn, you'll be sleeping soon
And I want to walk around with you
And I want to walk around with you
When the sun goes down, we'll go out again
Don't cool off, I like your warmth
Let's leave the sound of the heat for the sound of the rain
It's easy to sleep when it wets my brain
It covers my rest with a saccharine sheen
Kissing the wind through my window screen
The restlessness calls us, that I cannot hide
So much on my mind that it spills outside
Do you want to go stroll down the financial street?
Our clothes might get soaked, but the buildings sleep
And there's no one pushing for a place
As we end up at an easy pace
And I want to walk around with you
And I want to walk around with you
I want to walk around with you
Just you, just you, just you...
Lyrics should be at the top
I know I’m 4 years late to this comment but some of these are wrong like “as we end up at an easy pace” is actually “let’s meander at an easy pace”, and “restlessness calls us…” is “restlessness calls, says…”, that’s all tho bless you hope your last 4 years have been prosperous
Just in time for the heat, it's the 21st Century's answer to the Grateful Dead. The main difference here is that this band doesn't suck. At all.
nakedfordinner It's not exactly hate; under the right "circumstances", the Dead could pull off a reasonable performance.
I always thought they were more like a more like a modern day Beach Boys. But just "Pet Sounds" not their other albums.
Jordan Barbee If you'd said "Person Pitch" by Panda Bear, I think you'd be right on the money. But AC is so diverse that it's hard for me to pin down many comparisons. That's probably why I like them so much.
+Shawn Standiford they were tripping on acid the whole time, I think it was called The LSD Test
Fucking thank you for saying this... I thought I was crazy for hearing grateful dead all throughout.
Don't read the comments.
Too late.
:T
Tom Ellis I should have listened.....
Ok :>
Why are they all so bad.
its December 2021. I already know this is going to be my top track when 2022 Spotify wrapped comes around
Thanks to whoever posted this on Knox's Korner Forums back in in 2009, I keep comimg back!
A melhor musica da banda. Eu ouvi a musica em um comercial da Mtv e não parei mais. Depois ainda achei em um jogo chamado Skate 3 e jogava o jogo só para ouvir a musica
this song deserves a better video
i want to make a 2 hours playlist with the best of: animals collective, battles & liquid tension experiment... that would be indeed a trip

@@lilsturgeon not a problem. Listen to this song everyday so I'd thought I'd put this down for everyone.
@@VoidsDemise5443 it’s a beautiful song, it’s takes right back to summertime when I was a kid in Virginia playing skate 3 and running around playing outside. An amazing nostalgia that resonates with me now every time I hear this song I wanna tear up
@@lilsturgeon I know right
All weirdness considered, these guys are excellent songwriters and can use any instruments, devices or... kitchen appliances or whtvr 4 the desired effects. At least.
Drugs? Sorry I don't hear it; all i hear is the sound of creativity.
This video really is beautiful, though.
Love, love, love the feelings this song gives me! Thanks guys!
i fell in love with a boy who loved this song back in 2010
though that never eventuated, this is still a 10/10 tune after all these years
an adolescence well lived!
wow i got merriweather right when it came out but somehow it took me almost a decade to discover this music video ? how
I think I took some expired medication
ha
watch the videos for brother sport and peacebone, you'll miss this one.
I swear I read this comment a few days ago and it said "inspired meditation"
Fuck offf
@@sidpunk2034 see its happening to you too 🤔

Great song. Bounce into Summer.
Skate 3 let us access amazing music like this, let’s hope skate 4 does the same now it has been revealed to be in production
the real outro of spongebob
I first heard this at the mall in a vans store in March 2014 and I instantly fell in love it.
I haven't listened to this song in forever 😂 I'll always remember my friend playing this for me while smoking omg I miss those days. I hope he catches this post one day. I'm doing fine 🤗
This is musical, sensory bliss at its finest. God, I feel high, soft, full of yearning, and manic all at the same time
classic
this song has made me cry on public transit a lot
Oh my god me too. Specifically.
I'm on a bus right now getting feels.
Drugs do that lol
